Chapter 8: Ash Fall

Zorah slumbers peacefully, Junior curled around his lower back magmacore. She sighs contentedly as the heat of the magmacore warm: her little body. But as the two are resting, a sudden explosion shakes the island. Zorah perks up, as well as Junior. Rodan touched down, wincing as she nurses a few bad cuts.

"Rodan! What's happening?"

"You know that little bitch who's piloting Kiryu? Well according to the Shobijen, she's gone rogue. She and a few other defectors of the JSDF. But there's something else that's worrying. They... seem to be looking for you."

"Why?"

"I dunno. But it can't be good, considering the grudge she has against Gojiren."

Zorah stands up, and picks up Junior.

"Junior, I hate to say this but you must hide. That woman will not to hesitate to kill you if she sees you. Or any of her subordinates. I know that you've held your own against Gigan, but this is a completely new enemy, one who isn't as squishy. I need you to hide. Find the Mothra Twins and hide."

The young kaiju girl nods, hugs her grandfather, and runs off. The old elder dragon grows a look of grim determination, and makes a solitary march to the resident volcano. But he suddenly feels a small explosion against his face. He looks and sees a squadron of flying humanoid machines. They fire, small explosion rippling across his body he scowls and crouches. The small side vents of his shell start spewing molten projectiles at anything that flew around him. He soon stops and observes the damage. The crafts that had been pestering him were down, though not destroyed. He smiles and continues. But then he hears a boom and a pained scream and concern flashes across his face.

He lumbers around the he corner and his eyes widen. M.O.G.U.E.R.A and Jet Jaguar were restraining Anguirus and Mothra, as several other robotic Kaiju girls brought the others into submission. All the while, an improved Kiryu was beating Gojiren silly. And by badly, it means she was ruthlessly beaten. She had an eye swollen shut, a busted lip. Bruises covering her head to toe. Cuts and stab wounds decorate her torso and arms. She goes in for a weak punch, but Kiryu grabs her fist and crushes it, before grabbing her wrist and tossing her.

Gojiren lands with a heavy crash. He sees Kiryu's chest open up to reveal a massive and complex laser. His eyes widen as it charges up. He feels it in his gut. This would kill her in her weakened state. He rushed forth, crushing any machine Kaiju that attempted to impede him. As the canon fires, Zorah curls around his daughter protectively and pulls her to his chest. He doesn't see it, but a look of horror flashes across Kiryu's face as the beam barrels right down the main volcano on Zorah's back.

The Absolute Zero Canon reacts with the organic lava that Zorah produces. At first Zorah felt cold. Colder than he had ever felt. And then such intense pain that he blacked out.

What happened was a massive steam explosion that blew everyone away. But mixed with that steam was ash. Lots of ash. And it blanketed everything. Maser Canon tanks were submerged by the ash instantly. Soldiers on foot died painful deaths, smothered and roasted alive at the same time. Or the shockwave form the explosion gave them lethal whiplash, them getting launched and hitting something or getting impaled on something after being launched. Or by being boiled alive by the sludge or suffocating in the ash. As those that survived picked themselves ups be surveyed the damages.

Something was wrong with Kiryu. She was spasming randomly and her eyes were flickering from yellow to red. And they saw why. Blown back by the explosion, Gojiren pushes up against her collapsed father. Her eyes widen as she gently pushes him up, as he falls back, she places her hand on his back to keep him up, only to feel something incredibly hot and wet. She tentatively flips him over, aand sees the damage.

Skin and flesh had been blown away, leaving his spine and organs exposed. She could see his intestines and other organs. She gagged, but her horror turned to blind fury. She gently laid Zorah down and turns her attention to Jet Jaguar and Moguera m. She clenches her fists and charges, roaring in primal fury. She tackles Moguera and begins to savagely beat her. She rips off her drill horns and begins to stab it into Moguera repeatedly. She helps Mothra up and points at her father.

"Go. Help him. I'll deal with the others."

She then picks up the ravaged Moguera and tosses her at Jet Jaguar as she tries to flee. She then fires her atomic breath, causing a large explosion. She then helps Anguirus up and brushes her off. She glanced back to see Mothra gently using her silk to cover the wound and apply pressure to stop it from bleeding. She scowls and turns her fury back on the invaders.

"Let's rout these bitches from the island! Make sure none get past us!"

Anguirus nods and she curls up into a ball. Gojira then lifts her up and punts her. Anguirus smashes through any attempted resistance as she circles the area around Zorah and Mothra. Gojira smirks as she continues to batter the enemy forces.

Meanwhile, inside Kiryu's cockpit

Alarms blare as the cockpit and Kiryu's pilot gingerly picks herself up from the floor after being thrown fur to a random wild spasm.

"What the hell is going on?"

She then sees the injured Zorah.

"Oh. Shit. Fuck! Fuck! The Divine Knights were supposed to divert his attention away so I could off the bitch!"

She cusses and swears, before something shimmer in  the corner of her eye. She turns and recoils. Emerging form one of the consoles is a shimmering blazing phantom resembling a more mature Gojiren. She snarls and lashes out, grabbing her wrist. Kiryu's pilot screams in agony as the phantom's hand burns her skin.

She pulls out her pistol and fires blindly, severing the spectral hand. She stumbles away  and heads to the eject button. She slams her uninjured hand onto it and watches as the specter through a window while the escape pod launches. It turns it's attention back to the console showing the injured Zorah. It then looks around the cockpit, before slowly sinking back into the systems of Kiryu.

On the outside

Mothra slowly stops the bleeding with vast amounts of silk. She slowly spins what remaining silk she can produce into bandages. Zorah coughs and his magma like blood splutters from his lips. His damaged magmacores expel another explosion of ash, adding a fresh blanket to the ash around them from the initial blast.  Mothra bites her lip with worry as she bandages the massive wound. She glances around and surveys the damage around them. The entire eastern half of the island was covered with heavy ash. Mothra finished bandaging the wound and slowly sets Zorah down. She hears something rocket off.

She turns and sees a small object eject from Kiryu as it continues to spasm. She frowns and stands up, flaring her wings open. She steps in front of Zorah protectively, as Kiryu's eyes start to glow red. To her ah ok, it stands up by itself. It then screams. A horrible scream that shakes the earth. A scream that's both robotic and organic, rippling between the two tones. It then slowly turns to stare at Zorah and Mothra. It takes a step forwards, shakily, reaching out towards Zorah. Mothra cautiously steps in front of Kiryu. The twitching mechanical monster stares emptily at her. Before turning back to the unconscious Zorah. She softly pushes against Mothra, completely ignoring her. She then speaks.

"ZOOoRaAah."

She soon shoves Mothra out of the way and crouches next to the unconscious Zorah. He stirs slightly, his eyes opening briefly before slowly shutting again. The machine Kaiju gently runs her fingers through his hair. She plants a kiss on his temple and wipes a bit of blood from his lips. He stirs again opens his eyes again. He slowly rolls onto his back, growling from the pain. His eyes widen slightly as he raises his hand and rubs her cheek.

"Narwaji?"

Kiryu smiles and brushes a few beside out of his face.

"Yes. It's me."

Zorah smiles as tears well up in his eyes.

"I-I'm so sorry. I should ha-"

"No. Both of us are at fault. I didn't consider the future of our child and ran off. You did your best, shielding us from the energy that could easily kill you. But you left our child alone, hurting and scared."

"I know. I should have taken her with me. Taken her to a safer place."

The two hug each other, thinking of ways they could have made a better future. Gojiren watches from afar. She turns and slowly walks inland. She would let her parents reconcile and reconnect. It was going to take a lot to piece back their family.
