Chapter 48: Tears and Arguments

Princess Rebecca stood before the doors leading to her parents, King Cedric and Queen Isabella's chabers, her heart pounding with nerves on the impending conversation. As she stood outside the imposing doors, anxiety curled in her chest like an unwelcome guest, growing stronger with each passing second.

It was time for that talk—the one she'd been avoiding for too long. The weight of unspoken feelings for Princess Freen had become too heavy to bear in silence and she had decided that  it was time to have a serious conversation with her parents about her feelings for Princess Freen. She felt that it was unfair to Freen, and to herself, if she kept things as is.

This conversation was inevitable, a conversation she couldn't sidestep any longer. Whatever the outcomes might be—disappointment, disapproval, or unexpected understanding—she was resolved to confront them. Despite this, the closer she got to the actual conversation, the more her nerves seemed to grow. She felt a knot form in the pit of her stomach, a tightness that seemed to intensify with each passing second.

Throughout her life, her relationship with her parents were often shrouded in formality, lacking the warmth and openness she longed for. But that wasn't the only cause of her anxiety. This would be the first time she would dare to request something from her parents for herself. Her life had been a pattern of meeting her parents' expectations without question, never daring to vocalize her own desires. This stark contrast made the thought of sharing her innermost feelings, especially about her romantic relationship, all the more daunting.

She'd imagined this conversation countless times, each scenario ending with a different outcome, yet none of them eased the knot in her stomach. The idea of disappointing her parents, or worse, facing their disapproval, was a chilling prospect that sent shivers down her spine.

Despite her internal turmoil, she pushed down the rising wave of anxiety that was threatening to engulf her. Suppressing her emotions had become a second nature for her - cloaking her anxietes behind a composed facade.  It wasn't always a talent she possessed, but one she had painstakingly learned over time.

Taking a deep breath, Rebecca raised her hand and knocked on the wooden doors. The sound echoed through the corridor, and after a moment, the doors creaked open to reveal the chambers beyond. The sight of her parents sitting at a polished table, poring over scrolls and documents, was a familiar one, but the weight of the conversation she was about to have made everything feel different.

"Ah, Rebecca," King Cedric greeted with a hint of warmth yet an underlying layer of distant formality. "Come in, my dear. Is there something you needed?"

Rebecca entered the room, her posture straight and her gaze unwavering. She closed the doors behind her and took a deep breath, summoning the courage she needed. "Mother, Father, there's something important I wish to discuss with you."

Queen Isabella peered up from her documents, her scrutinizing gaze meeting Rebecca's with a distant air. "Of course dear. What is it that you wish to discuss?"

Rebecca nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. "It's regarding the month-long festival..."

Both of her parents exchanged a glance, and Rebecca could sense their curiosity growing. "Go on, Rebecca," King Cedric encouraged.

Rebecca took another deep breath, her gaze steady as she met her parents' eyes. "During the festival, I went on dates with the heirs from various kingdoms, as you already know... I mean you were the one to suggest the idea of the month long festival. So I guess it's not a secret that I was going on dates with the heirs to get to know them better. It was a way for me to find a potential partner, as you had hoped. I was adhering to your hopes of finding a suitable partner."

Rebecca could not stop rambling, her words tumbling out as she struggled to find the right words to convey her thoughts. Her fingers fidgeted nervously, and she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. She's usually more composed, especially around her parents, but at this moment, the weight of her confession hung heavily in the air, making it hard for her to maintain her usual poise.

She took another steadying breath, her gaze alternating between her parents, hoping for understanding and fearing their disappointment. The room felt suffocatingly quiet, but she had not even revealed the heart of the matter to her parents yet.

Queen Isabella nodded in understanding, her expression thoughtful. "And did you find someone?"

Rebecca hesitated for a moment before her gaze hardened with determination. "Yes, I did. I met someone, someone who has captured my heart. She's unlike anyone I've ever met—kind, understanding, and someone who sees me for who I truly am,"

Both of her parents were surprised, their interest clearly piqued. "Who is this person, Rebecca?" King Cedric inquired.

Rebecca hesitated, her heart racing as she prepared to reveal her feelings. "Her name is Princess Freen. We've spent a lot of time together during the festival....much more so than with the other heirs. And I believe... I believe that I'm in love with her."

A heavy silence settled in the room, the weight of Rebecca's revelation hanging in the air. Queen Isabella exchanged a glance with King Cedric, her expression conflicted. "Princess Freen of Gaelle?" Queen Isabella questioned, her tone cautious. "You mean to say that you've formed a romantic connection with another omega?"

Rebecca nodded, her heart pounding in her chest as she met her parents' gaze. "Yes, Mother. Princess Freen of Gaelle...And... yes, she is an omega like me."

"What?" Queen Isabella's voice broke the silence, her tone a mixture of disbelief and shock.

"Rebecca, you can't be serious," her tone sharpened.  "You know the expectations placed upon you as Lumina's princess."

King Cedric's expression hardened, his eyes narrowing as he leaned forward. "Rebecca, do you realize the implications of what you're suggesting? This is beyond irresponsible. Our kingdom relies on strategic alliances, and those alliances are built upon centuries of tradition. To deviate from those traditions could jeopardize the stability of our kingdom."

Rebecca's heart ached painfully at her parents' words, her resolve wavering under the weight of her parents' disapproval. "But Mother, Father," she stammered, "my feelings for Freen are real. I'm prepared... no we're prepared to overcome these challenges for the sake of our future."

As Rebecca continued speaking, the initial tremor in her voice seemed to fade, replaced by a quiet confidence that echoed in her words. "I understand the expectations you have of me, but my feelings for Freen isn't merely a fleeting emotion," she continued, her tone beginining to grow with confidence. "I understand the importance of our alliances, Father, Mother, but I also believe that times are changing. I believe that Lumina's future lies not only in traditional alliances but also adapting to new realities. Freen and I are committed to finding a way to honor both our love and our duties. Please, consider not just what's expected but what could be."

Queen Isabella's expression remained guarded, her eyes searching Rebecca's face for answers. "Rebecca, you know that we want what's best for you. But this decision is not just about you—it's about the entire kingdom and its future."

Tension hung in the air, and Rebecca felt the weight of the responsibility she carried. She had expected their oposition, but she had hoped that her parents would see how much she loved Freen, especially because this was the first time she had ever asked for something so deeply personal and meaningful from them.

"I know that," Rebecca's voice wavered slightly. "I know that my decision carries weight, and I'm willing to face the challenges that come with it...But I also believe that love and understanding have the power to bridge divides and forge new alliances. I ask for your understanding and support, Mother, Father."

For a long moment, the room was shrouded in silence. Then, King Cedric's voice cut through the tension, his tone laced with disbelief and frustration. "Rebecca, you cannot be serious. A romantic connection with another omega? This is not only unprecedented but also dangerous. Do you not realize the implications of your actions? An omega princess cannot simply form a romantic relationship with another omega princess, especially from another kingdom. It would raise eyebrows among the other kingdoms."

Rebecca's eyes welled with tears as she met her father's gaze, her voice shaking with emotion. "Father, please understand that our feelings are real and genuine. I know that it's unconventional, but love should not be confined by tradition. I'm not asking you to abandon our responsibilities, but to consider the potential of this alliance as well."

Queen Isabella's expression was pained, her eyes reflecting a mixture of sympathy and concern. "Rebecca, we need time to process this. This revelation has taken us by surprise, and we must consider the consequences for Lumina and its people. The implications of this decision are immense."

Rebecca's tears spilled over, her voice choked with emotion. "Please don't dismiss my feelings. I know that it's complicated, but my heart is telling me that this connection with Freen is worth fighting for. We can find a way to honor both our love and our responsibilities."

The room was filled with the weight of unspoken words, the air heavy with uncertainty and tension. Rebecca's parents exchanged a glance, their expressions mirroring the internal struggle they were facing. It was a struggle between tradition and the changing tides of love and connection.

As Rebecca looked into her parents' eyes, she saw the depth of their emotions, the conflict that raged within them. It was clear that her revelation had shattered their expectations and challenged their beliefs. Yet, she also sensed a glimmer of something else—an inkling of understanding, of a parent's love trying to reconcile with the unexpected.

"We cannot make a decision of this magnitude hastily," King Cedric finally spoke, his voice quieter now, the anger replaced by a mixture of sadness and contemplation. "Lumina's future is at stake, and we must consider the consequences from all angles."

Rebecca nodded through her tears, grateful that her parents were willing to at least consider her perspective. "I understand, Father. I'm not asking for a hasty decision. But I hope that you'll see the sincerity of my feelings and the potential that lies within this connection."

Queen Isabella's gaze softened as she reached out and gently clasped Rebecca's hand. "Rebecca, you are our daughter, and your happiness is something that we want as well. We want to see you happy, but we also have to ensure the well-being of Lumina. It's a delicate balance that we're trying to find."

Rebecca nodded again, her heart heavy with the weight of the responsibility she bore. She knew that the path she had chosen was not an easy one, but she was willing to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

"We will convene with the council and the advisors to discuss this matter," King Cedric said, his voice carrying a mixture of resolve and weariness. "It's a decision that cannot be made lightly, and we must consider the opinions of those who guide our kingdom. In the mean time, I hope you will still follow through with the festival."

Rebecca wiped away her tears, her determination rekindled as she looked at her parents. "Thank you, Father, Mother. Your willingness to at least consider my feelings means more to me than words can express. I hope that you'll give Freen and me the chance to prove ourselves."

The room was still, the air thick with emotion as the weight of the conversation lingered. Rebecca's parents exchanged a glance, and then Queen Isabella nodded, her expression softened by a mixture of understanding and concern.

"We will consider your feelings, Rebecca," Queen Isabella said, her voice carrying a mother's warmth that is something new for her. "But please understand that this is not a decision that can be made solely based on emotions. We will take the time to think over this matter and reach a conclusion that is in the best interest for both you and Lumina."

Rebecca nodded, her heart feeling heavy. The heated arguments and impassioned pleas felt like it went on for hours. Rebecca's heart ached as she fought to make them understand, to make them see that her love for Freen was worth the sacrifices and challenges they might face.

In the end, despite the tears and strained emotions, she felt like her parents wouldn't budge. Their last parting words of her parents considering matter seemed more like a polite gesture to conclude the discussion rather than earnestly taking her words and feelings into consideration.

It was the first time however, for her father to utter such words, but Rebecca sensed a reluctance beneath his promise to consider her plea. She knew all too well that the decision would likely lean towards tradition and political stability, rather than taking her feelings into consideration.

However, although she was disappointed in how the conversation went, a glimmer of hope lingered within Rebecca. She clung to the slim chance that perhaps her parents might reconsider.

As she left her parents room, a heavy weight settled in her chest, casting a shadow over her usual cheerful demeanor. The weight of the situation, the clash between her heart's desires and the weight of royal expectations, began to take its toll. Without her realizing, the conversation with her parents had caused an unexpected doubt to seep into Rebecca's mind and had casted a shadow on her feelings for Freen.

With a heavy sigh, Rebecca found herself lost in thoughts, her footsteps carrying her absentmindedly through the corridors of the palace. The excitement and love she felt for Freen felt muted, overshadowed by the looming pressure of the decisions ahead. Despite her efforts to hold on to hope, the weight of uncertainty hung heavily in the air, tainting her joy and clouding her once-clear feelings.
