Chapter 38: Date Preparation part 2
With the dawn of a new day, Freen was ready to start decorating. Today's task was to create another world inside the library that Rebecca can enjoy. She wanted to bring her vision to life, to transform the grand library into a space of intimacy, sincerity, and love—an oasis within the grand library where they won't be interrupted and are free to just be themselves.
The sun's gentle rays streamed through the tall windows as Freen stepped into the library with the books she had selected yesterday and written notes and letter. Freen's steps echoed softly as she walked the halls, her heart set on finding the perfect spot for their date.
Taking into account Rebecca's love for intimacy and sincerity, her thoughts drifted to the library's alcoves—secluded pockets of the library, perfect for private moments.
After some contemplation, Freen settled on a particular alcove, nestled between shelves of classic literature and adorned with plush cushions. Unlike the other alcoves in the library, this particular one had a uniquely enchanting quality.
It was tucked away, shielded by the towering bookshelves on either side. The alcove seemed almost cocooned, as if it existed in a world of its own, isolated from the activity inside the library. As she stepped into the alcove, her fingers brushed against the soft cushions, and she could almost feel the weight of Rebecca's presence beside her.
With careful consideration, Freen began to organize the alcove, each action infused with intention and love. She started arranging the cushions, just right for comfort but also arranging to allow for close proximity.
She also had Amelia to order some drapes. She decided to hang the drapes at the entrance of the alcove, adding a sense of privacy. She asked for sheer translucent drapes to help filter the outside, without fully closing it off from the world. She imagined the curtains gently swaying from the breeze let in by the opened windows, creating a dance of shadows that added to the intimate ambiance.
The alcove's walls were lined with bookshelves, and Freen decided to replace the books with her preselected ones that contained the handwritten notes she had prepared. To add a touch of magic, she decided to hang fairly lights along the shelves. With the soft fairy lights casting a warm and inviting glow, the alcove seemed to come alive, like a scene from a fairytale.
She had wanted to place scented candles on the shelves, but thought against it. The library contained numerous old and precious books, and the risk of an accidental mishap with an open flame was too great. Freen didn't want to jeopardize the safety of the irreplaceable books, and she knew that a small accident with a candle could turn their special date into a disaster.
The final change she made was that she had asked the palace servants to place a low table adorned with a vase of fresh flowers at the center of the alcove. She figured that they could have refreshments at the library to make for a more cozy setting without any interruptions.
Finally, when every detail was in place, Freen stepped back to admire her work. Freen couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as she looked around. Everything was just as she had envisioned. With a contented smile, Freen made a mental note to add a few extra personal touches, perhaps a soft blanket to wrap around their shoulders on cooler evenings or a tray of their favorite treats to enjoy during their time together.

Before she got started on preparing for the next part of their date, she decided to take a moment to relax and have lunch. As she savored her meal, her thoughts drifted to the other surprise she had in store for Rebecca—a outdoor picnic in the palace gardens.
After lunch, Freen made her way to the palace kitchen. She has yet to curate a menu for the picnic tomorrow and so she decided to ask the head chef for Rebecca's favorite foods.
Upon entering the kitchen, Freen was met with the delightful chaos of chefs and kitchen staff immersed in their tasks. The clatter of pots and pans, the sizzling of ingredients, and the fragrant scents that wafted through the air painted a vivid portrait of the culinary artistry taking place.
Freen's presence garnered curious glances, and she soon found herself in conversation with the head chef.
"I'm planning a special outdoor picnic for Princess Rebecca," Freen explained with a warm smile. "I want the menu to include some of Rebecca's favorite's and my kingdom's finest dishes."
The head chef nodded in understanding as he wiped his hands on his apron. "Your Highness, it's an honor to assist you in creating a memorable dining experience for Princess Rebecca. We take great pride in crafting dishes that cater to individual preferences."
Freen's gratitude was evident in her smile as she continued, "I'm afraid I haven't had the opportunity to ask Princess Rebecca directly about her favorite foods. Would you happen to have any insights into her preferences?"
"Ah, Princess Rebecca appreciates dishes that has a lot of flavors. Light and refreshing options seem to also be her favorite."
Freen listened attentively, mentally taking notes of the information. "Could you perhaps provide me with some examples of dishes that align with her preferences?"
The head chef nodded thoughtfully. "Certainly, Your Highness. A few suggestions that come to mind include chilled cucumber soup infused with mint, bite-sized tea sandwiches with a variety of fillings, and a array of fresh fruits with a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of crushed nuts. For a sweet touch, pastries with cream fillings would complement the selection."
Freen's eyes brightened with enthusiasm. "That sounds wonderful, thank you"
With the head chef taking the lead on Rebecca's preferences, Freen found herself collaborating on the creation of a menu of her kingdom's culinary heritage. Freen suggested an array of delectable finger foods—miniature pastries filled with spiced meats and vegetables, tarts with vibrant fruit fillings, and savory dumplings that showcased their kingdom's flavors.
Once the main courses were decided, all that was left was deciding the beverages. "If you could include a variety of teas and beverages, that would be perfect. Rebecca and I enjoy exploring different flavors."
The head chef's smile widened. "Princess Rebecca seems to prefer floral and herbal infusions. A selection of teas made from chamomile, lavender, and rose petals would likely appeal to her. Adding a touch of citrus or a hint of honey would enhance the flavors."
Freen's heart swelled with gratitude for the head chef's guidance and expertise. "Thank you for your valuable insights. Your suggestions will definitely contribute to a truly special picnic for Princess Rebecca."
The head chef's warm gaze met Freen's. "It's our pleasure, Your Highness."

With the menu finalized, the next step was to prepare the picnic area itself. She thanked the chefs for their assistance and headed towards the palace gardens, eager to transform the outdoor space.
With the help of the palace staff, Freen ensured that the picnic area in the palace garden would be set up tomorrow during lunch hour. A soft blanket would be spread out beneath the shade of a grand old tree, surrounded by a carpet of delicate flowers. The food and drinks that the chef will prepare would be brought and spread across the blanket just before their arrival.
Freen and the palace staff came up with a clever method to signal the staff to set up the picnic area in the palace garden. They decided that Freen would send a discreet message to one of the palace servants using a specific phrase. The phrase that Freen would use to signal the staff to prepare the picnic area is "Underneath the shade of our own story."
This phrase holds special significance to Freen and Rebecca, as it refers to a moment they shared where they discussed the idea of creating their own unique story together. Using this phrase as a signal adds a touch of romance and intimacy to the preparation of the picnic, without being discovered.
Once Freen uttered that phrase in the presence of the servant, it would serve as a signal for the staff to begin preparing the picnic area with the food, drinks, and all the arrangements. This way, the picnic area would be ready just in time for Freen and Rebecca's arrival, ensuring that the food remained fresh and warm and the atmosphere was perfect for their first date.
As a final touch, Freen had asked to place a small wooden chest beside the picnic spread. Inside the chest were an array of small, beautifully crafted envelopes. These envelopes contained a series of carefully composed riddles, a playful yet meaningful addition to the picnic experience.
With the planning finally complete, Freen felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that every detail had been considered, every surprise carefully planned to make the day unforgettable for both of them.
As the hours passed, the palace staff dispersed, leaving Freen alone in the garden. She took a deep breath, her heart full of excitement and a touch of nervousness. The anticipation of the day ahead filled her with a mixture of emotions, but above all, she couldn't wait to have her date with Rebecca tomorrow.
