Chapter 40

Naruto fingered the two scrolls knocking around in her pocket. She had yet to give them to Tsunade, and was now standing in her office, the hazel-eyed woman staring at her.

"Brat, what did you come here for?"

Naruto sighed, taking out the scrolls. "When I killed Orochimaru... he thanked me. He also gave me these scrolls."

Naruto handed the scrolls to Tsunade, who opened the one with the feather and scroll image. The blond kage's eyes widened, before she started to cry silently. "Naruto Uzumaki. Thank you for bringing me these. If you would... go get Sarutobi-sensei and Jiraiya."

Naruto nodded and leapt out the window. She went to the Sarutobi estate and knocked on the door. She smiled when Jiji answered.

"Naruto-chan! A pleasure to see you! What can I do for you?" His calm aged voice was rough from years of smoking that pipe, but it was always a comfort for Naruto.

"Tsunade wants you and Jiraiya. Orochimaru gave me two scrolls when I killed him... She was crying."

Hiruzen nodded and swept out of the house immediately. "Go get Jiraiya Naruto-chan."

Naruto nodded again and leapt off towards the bathhouse. She found him peeping over the womans side, and quickly leapt up into the tree and tapped his shoulder.

"Brat? What is it?"

Naruto quickly explained and in half a second Jiraiya was gone. The blond sighed, stretching. She had a lot to do.

AN// This next part is a series of short timeskips. There isn't much more of this story by the way, maybe a few more chapters UwU. Don't worry though, I have le plan.

A year had passed and things were normal. Naruto and Shikamaru took a few more months to train and get ready for field missions, and when they were ready only took short missions. They were the Shadow and Light Duo.  Hinari started the pre-academy course and Haruki was top of his class.

They got summoned for a mission. It happened often, but Naruto thought something felt off about this summon. It seemed...

"Gaara was captured by the Akatsuki."

Wrong.

"You two will head out with Team Seven and help Suna in any way. I will send a backup team after you as soon as they arrive. Get there as soon as possible and be-"

Naruto had grabbed Shikamaru and flashed away, appearing in front of Kakashi, who was geared up and ready. Sakura stood next to him. "Sasuke?" She asked, and the bastard himself stepped out of the shadows, his apprentice right behind him.

"Is Kusei coming?"

"Yes, but he'll be staying in Suna, talking to some contacts, and helping out."

Naruto grabbed everyone and channeled her chakra, imagining Gaara's office, of which she'd been to once. With a steep but not overly large drop of chakra, the group vanished.

They reappeared in Gaara's office and quickly followed Naruto to the medical ward. "Baki is there." Was all she said. They entered and immediately Sakura went to Kankuro, who was lying on the bed sweating and barely conscious. He was swathed in bandages, and medic-nin flurried around him.

Shadows wrapped around an elderly lady who had been about to attack Kakashi. "I'm sorry about Lady Chiyo, she hates the White Fang, and Kakashi-san resembles his father to quite an extent."

Naruto accepted Baki's apology easily. "So. Which direction did they  take him?" She asked.

"Northeast. Be careful. The Akatsuki are after you too."

"Of course. Team Seven!."

It'd been a year, but Naruto, Shikamaru, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi worked together seamlessly. Naruto took off, Shikamaru and Sasuke flanking her, while Kakashi summoned Pakkun and waited for Sakura.

They flew through the forest, Naruto summoning a fox to help trace Gaara's scent. Oka flew ahead of them leading them towards the forest. After an hour Naruto felt a familiar-but-not presence.

"Akatsuki member up ahead. Feels like Uchiha Itachi, but not... be on guard."

Sasuke stiffened slightly but nodded all the same. They flew out of the trees, immediately attacking 'Itachi'. It didn't take long to take 'him' out, as the three of them together were like two Kages. Almost three. Naruto squatted to examine the body, flinching as it melted until all that was left was a dead Suna nin.

"I was right... the real Itachi would have been ten times stronger." Naruto sighed, straightening up. She could feel a few familiar chakras not too far away, though she wasn't too close to the approaching group. "Backup will be here soon. It's Team Gai. Let's go, we're wasting time."

With that she shot off, flying through the trees. It was another two hours before they encountered anything else. They stood before an enormous boulder, blocking the entrance to a cave. Naruto could see a seal on the boulder, and got closer to see what kind of seal it was.

"It's a five seal barrier. I could send shadow clones to the other seals, but I don't know where they are. I could try sensing them but they may not be within range. If only we had someon-"

"Naruto! Sasuke! Shikamaru! Hey!" The trio looked back and spotted Team Gai arriving with Sakura and Sasuke in tow.

"Hey guys! This cave is where they're keeping Gaara. Neji, can you use your Byakugan to find the other barrier seals? I can send shadow clones, though I dunno what may happen if they dispel. This seal has some sort of defense mechanism."

Neji nodded and activated his Byakugan, veins around his eyes bulging. After a second he pointed in four different directions, describing what the areas looked like. Naruto looked at each leaf nin. After a minute she had picked the four to send.

"Lee, Tenten, Neji, Gai. I believe you four can overcome the barriers defense. Please be safe, and meet with us as soon as possible." The four nin nodded and took off in separate directions. (AN//So like, this sounds rushed, but there's a reason. The rest of this story is going to sound rushed, and even not make sense at times. Kinda like a glitch or telling a complicated story too fast. You mix up parts. You guys will see why prolly in the AN I'll post after this chapter.))

Naruto waited for them to get in position before ripping the seals off. Sakura then pulled on her glove and smirked, running forward and smashing the boulder. When the dust settled the team plus Shikamaru stood, mere silhouettes against the sun filtering in.

There were only two Akatsuki members there, and they seemed to be about to start the extraction of Shukaku. One was Deidara, one of Iwa's missing-nin. The other was an unknown. Orange swirly mask with only one eyehole. He looked silly, but even silly ninja's were strong. So Naruto raised her guard, chakra cording through her.

"Waaaah! Scary leaf-nin! Deidara-senpai, what do we do! Wahh!" His voice was so whiny, and he sounded like a child. Naruto's eyes narrowed.

"Who are you, masked man?" She asked. The man spun around, bending this way and that with incredible flexibility.

"Tobi is Tobi~ And you're the jinchuuriki for the Kyuubi!" Naruto's eye twitched. This man was good at acting, that's a fact. But actor to actor, Naruto could see clean through him. He was strong.

"Guys. Sasuke, Sakura. Go for Deidara. Try to get Gaara. That's our objective. Grab and flee." They nodded and suddenly chaos erupted. Naruto attacked Tobi, keeping him from Shikamaru and Kakashi who ran past them, straight for Gaara.

Naruto was right. Tobi was pressing her, without even trying. His fighting style was new to her, and hard to adapt to. She was using her bloodline left and right, dodging half hearting but fully disabling blows, trying to get a hit on the man. Every attack just phased through him.

Then the light hit his mask just right.

He had a Sharingan. Her eyes widened and she fought harder. He was using Kamui, an ability Kakashi had explained to her once. There were two parts. Intangibility, and Dimensional warping.

She saw Kakashi grab Gaara's wrist and quickly she flexed her chakra in rapid succession. She pushed Tobi back, Shoved Deidara's head onto Sasuke's sword, grabbed Sasuke, Flashed to Sakura who was healing a burn, flashed to Shikamaru who was panting, hair a mess, and finally to Kakashi, flashing them all away just before Tobi's hand grabbed her hair.

She fell to the floor of the medical bay, panting and retching. She had rapidly used up a lot of chakra in fast bursts, similar to several punches in the gut. She felt one hand on her back and another on her forehead, and the effects slowly went away.

"Thank you Sakura." She stood and hugged Shikamaru, running her hand through his sweaty hair, fixing it as best she could. "Who has the receiver? Team Gai needs updated."

Kakashi flicked his fingers and walked out of the room. "Team Gai, This is Hatake. What's your...." His voice faded.

Naruto turned to look at one of her best friends. Gaara's sand armor was cracked to high hell, but his breathing was steady. She lifted him and placed him on one of the medical cots. Looking around, the room was devoid of anyone other than the leaf nin.

"Let's rest while Kakashi reports to Baki. I have some startling news to share when he gets back."

With that the kunoichi leaned back against the wall and meditated.

"Hey Kit. That man. He feels familiar."

'Familiar? How? I know I've never met him before.'

"He has the same chakra as the man who controlled me. He called himself Madara, but he didn't feel like Madara."

'Really? Well, that explains the strength. Well, Kakashi-nii is here so I've got to go. I'll come visit soon.'

A deep rumble was her reply, and the blond opened her eyes just as Kakashi walked in with a group of Suna nin. The Suna nin rushed over to the still unconscious Gaara. the group of leaf nin sat in a corner speaking in hushed whispers that no one tried to hear.

"Okay. I saw something while fighting Tobi. He had a Mangekyo Sharingan. I don't know how to describe it, but it was like a pinwheel with connecting points." Naruto drew it in the air, before smacking her forehead and pulling out some sealing paper.

She drew it out and showed it to them. Kakashi's lone eye widened. 'Are you sure that's what you saw Naru?!"

Naruto raised an eyebrow at the urgent tone in Kakashi's voice. She nodded. "Of course I'm sure. Why Kakashi-nii?"

Kakashi just pulled up his headband and opened his Sharingan eye. They watched as his eye morphed into the symbol Naruto had drawn. Naruto's eyes narrowed.

"Sensei, why would you have the same symbol? I thought every Mangekyo was different?"

Kakashi covered his eye once more and sighed. "As you all know I wasn't born with the Sharingan. I got it from my teammate, who was an Uchiha. He died on a mission. Was crushed under a boulder. He was alive when we left him, but his chakra died, so we didn't stay. We were in a danger zone and had a mission to complete. He couldn't have survived. But he's the only other person who could have this eye."

Naruto looked up at the ceiling. "So this Uchiha isn't actually dead. Why not come back to Konoha? How did he end up a bad guy? And was he always that silly? Though my senses were on high alert the whole time, and I feel like he was acting."

Kakashi shrugged, though his eye was clouded. "Maybe the boulder gave that idiot brain damage." He said mirthlessly. Naruto met the eyes of everyone else, sending a clear, wordless message.

Let him think.

So they laid around in silence, all of them waiting to be dismissed. An hour later Gaara woke up and thanked the group. Apparently Shukaku had been depleted of most of its chakra. Finally, they were dismissed, and Naruto grabbed everyone, flexing her chakra and letting it snap, picturing the Hokage's office.

In less than a second, they stood in front of the Hokage, Naruto clutching Shikamaru's arm for support as she popped a chakra regeneration pill in her mouth.

And then everything went back to normal. Happy ever after.

Not.

A few weeks later a beat up toad appeared next to Naruto. It was an elderly toad, with curly hair. She looked frantic and leapt over to the blond. It was dinnertime, so she stumbled over plates.

"Naruto-chan, It's Jiraiya-boy! You need to get him to Tsunade now!" The tone of urgency set Naruto on edge.

"Ma, Wha-"

"Naruto-chan He'll die! Now!"

Naruto cursed, Picturing Jiraiya alone would sap so much chakra. Especially since he was in Ame. She grabbed her chakra and jerked using Kurama's chakra to delay the after-effects. The second she landed, she grabbed Jiraiya, and oh god his arm, and the poles- She collapsed on the floor, unconscious in front of a startled Tsunade and Shizune.

When she woke up, she was at home, her family surrounding her. Their even breaths let her know that everything was okay. She shifted, and one by one, they woke up.

"Hey Naru. You were out for a good three days. Your bloodline overloaded. Don't worry, Jiraiya managed to survive, but they're keeping him in a medically induced coma for a week. He'll likely need to retire, he lost his arm, and one of his kidneys had to be removed, it was pulverized."

Naruto took a deep breath. Despite never going on that training trip Jiraiya wanted to take her on, they had still grown close. She stood and stretched. Haruki and Hinari were yawning and rubbing their eyes.

"I might go train with the Foxes for about a month. Only a week will pass here, but I need to finish the Demon Fox Sage training. I have a very bad feeling, and I want to feel prepared. I'm leaving a summon to accompany Haruki and Hinari. I know Haruki has the Neko summoning, but Neko aren't allowed in Kitsune lands."

Naruto hurried to get dressed, packing a bag of clothes and other necessities. She explained carefully to Hinari and Haruki where she was going and that she'd be back. When done, she bit her thumb, and reverse summoned herself.

For a month she trained, meditating and carefully channeling nature chakra, mixing it with her demonic chakra. It took three days to achieve Demon Fox Sage mode, and three weeks to train in Kitsune Kata. The last four days she focused on shortening the time it took to slip into sage mode.

Three minutes. It took three minutes to slip into sage mode. So she created a shortcut. She'd have three clones maintain sage mode and she'd dispel when needed, replacing each clone as it dispelled. Her sage mode lasted about fifteen minutes, so in a fight, she should be fine.

Suddenly a fox appeared in front of her. It was Geiki, the summon she tasked to protect Haruki. "Naruto! Get to the village now! It's under attack!"

Naruto immediately turned and looked for Ruma, an eight-tailed fox, and the strongest after Kurama. She came bounding over and together, they reverse summoned.

Haruki had seen a man flying above the village, and had immediately told Geiki to tell Kaa-san. He ran towards the Hokage tower as the man spread his arms. A vibration hit his skin, and then he flew.

He had been blasted upwards, having been mid-leap. He watched the village crumble, and heard screams left and right. There was a building about to fall on Miko, one of his classmates, a fellow orphan, and he furrowed his brow, feeling his chakra snap out. Suddenly he was shooting towards Miko, shoving her out of the way. He hit the ground and rolled, gritting his teeth as broken glass got stuck in his skin, yelping as a brick glanced his ankle.

"Haru! Haruki are you okay?!" He felt his arm being tugged, and looked up, seeing minty green hair.

"Miko! Are you okay!?" The five year old nodded and helped him up. The two leapt over the rubble, looking over the destroyed village. Haruki's eyes widened.

"HINARI!??" He ran towards Ichiraku's, where she had gone to hang out with Haido. He summoned Kei, his personal summon. "Find my sister!"

He barely noticed Miko following him, or Kusei catching up, blood running down his face from a gash on his forehead.

"HINARI!!"

His chakra snapped again as he leapt as high as he could, something carrying him over a huge collapsed building. The stand was crushed under a building, and Haruki's heart leapt into his throat.

He staggered over to the rubble and began sifting through it, looking for any hint of blond hair. He heard ragged breathing and looked over to see Haido crushed under a wall. Blood pooled around him and his eyes were full of pain.

Haruki stumbled over. Haido looked at him. The unasked question lingered in the air, and Haido closed his eyes, his only mobile arm holding onto...

AN// Okay, I know I said Hiatus, buuut HitokiriGunnousai gave me an amazing Idea. The Hiatus may still happen for most of my stories, maybe even this one again, but right now you guys get a chapter.

Also, theres only gonna be maybe ten(at most) chapters after this. They will purposely be rushed sounding and all that. Not because of  lack of trying, but because "When you wake from a dream, the dream makes less sense". That is a hint for the sequel. A very obvious hint. And yes. There will be a sequel. However, the sequel is going to basically be a rewrite, with better scenes, descriptions, and other new additions to the plot. Meaning the updates will be slow as Heeeeeeeellll.

I need to go delete that Authors note from before, so See you guys in the next update! I hope ou enjoyed this semi-rushed chapter and enjoy the cliffie.

PEACE

-Minna~
