5. Speeding Things Up
And her lips are the galaxy's edge
And her kiss the color of a constellation falling into place

I looked out the tinted window of the limo. Los Angeles was a whole different world compared to New York. It was just as grand but in it's own way. We had made it to LAX five minutes behind schedule which was not bad at all. I had slept through most of the plane ride. I didn't know what McKenna did.
I looked over at McKenna who seemed to be lost in thought as she stared out the window. We hadn't talked since we left my apartment. I figured we could only go so long before pissing each other off so I didn't try to make any conversation. She seemed to feel the same way since she didn't make an effort either.
The limo came to a stop and the driver rolled down the window that isolated him from us. "We're here," he informed us.
McKenna took a deep breath, her eyes closed.
"You ready," I asked her. I've been to multiple red carpet events but I was pretty sure this was her first. I wasn't really nervous for my first appearance but I was under different circumstances than her.
"Let's do this," McKenna nodded. She opened the door and the sound of the reporters and fans reached us immediately. I put on a smile as I followed McKenna out.
I grinned broadly as I put my hand on the small of McKenna's back. The back of her dress was a two piece and I felt Mckenna tense as my fingers grazed her bare skin, but she remained poised putting on a graceful smile for the cameras.
We moved forward in sync and I made a point to wave at some of the fans shouting my name from behind the makeshift barricades. The camera flashes were blinding, but another actor had arrived and some of them had moved on.
McKenna nudged me and I looked in her direction. She pointed over at a group of fans that were holding signs with her name on them. She lead the way toward them and I followed my arm still around her.
"Hey guys," McKenna greeted the group with a genuine smile. She took a picture of her and a pen from one of the girls and signed an autograph.
"OMG, McKenna I LOVE you!" the girl shrieked jumping up and down. She couldn't be older than 17. I vaguely remembered that this premiere was around McKenna's hometown. I bet she had a pretty solid fan base around here. The groupies in front of me only made me more sure.
"OH MY GOSH REECE! You two are perfect I can't even-ugh can I have your autograph," another one of the girls shrieked.
I chuckled taking a picture of McKenna and I dressed in spaghetti and pizza sauce from her, "Sure thing. I like your choice in pictures."
The other girls were jumping vigorously, their cameras out. McKenna abided to their requests and took a few selfies with them.
The only pictures I usually took were those that were planned or if I was in a good mood and someone caught me on the street. Looking over at McKenna, however, I chose to concede to the fan's puppy dog eyes and got into their pictures.
We spent a few more moments with the group of fans that somehow got larger over the course of a few minutes. McKenna did most of the talking as I watched impressed with her people skills. She was genuinely happy to sign autographs and take pictures.
We made our way back toward the theater. I took McKenna's hand in mine as we began approaching the reporters. Most were busy interviewing other actors, but we were stopped at a backdrop of the movie.
"And here we have Reece Zynner and McKenna Ellis. Glad you two could make it!," the blonde reporter spoke looking straight at the camera as we stood by her. I waved at the camera awkwardly not really liking being recorded straight on.
Fans were no problem but something about having thousands of people watching me while I couldn't even see one of them made me uncomfortable. I was glad McKenna was there so the attention would be divided.
"So, give us the details. Are the rumors true? Is Reecenna the real deal?" She asked dramatically, her blue eyes sparkling with excitement.
I laughed looking at McKenna who had the same expression of amusement, "Wow, I didn't know there was a name for us."
"Well, normally I would be against listening to rumors, but this one may hold a little truth to it." McKenna responded with a radiant smile.
The reporter's eyes widened as she mouthed "omg" at the camera. I wasn't quite sure if she was really that excited about it, but I knew that it was her job to be. I was ready to make my way toward the theater. Our job was practically done. We smiled and we confirmed the rumors.
"How did you two meet?" she continued aiming the microphone in between us. I was ready to relay the story that Scottie had given us when McKenna took the lead.
"Well, I knew Reece was a client at Hurricane Records but we never really met. Until I was running late to a meeting and rushed into a closing elevator. I bumped into Reece and landed on my butt," she said with a laugh, "I literally fell for him."
I tried to hide how impressed I was with her answer. Hell, I would've believed her if I wasn't the one she theoretically bumped into. I smiled down at her softly, before addressing the reporter, "We should get going."
The reporter nodded, looking back at the camera, "Well there you have it, folks. Reecenna is real and gushing with cuteness!"
I wrapped my arm around McKenna again as we made our way inside the theatre. Inside, it was already dark as the rest were taking their seats. We were placed in the eleventh row.
"Reecenna? Who comes up with these?" McKenna asked as she put some distance between her and me. My arm fell to my side as I followed her through the aisle.
"It's kind of catchy. I can practically see the cuteness gush out of you," I whispered, mockingly.
I heard McKenna scoff and could practically feel her rolling her eyes. I took the seat with my name on it next to McKenna's.
I looked at the guy I was seated next to and instantly recognized him. "Hey, what's up," I shook Dixon Brightside's hand next to me.
"Nothin' got dragged to this movie," he sighed with an exasperated laugh. He was an actor currently starring on some hit tv show. I had met him a few months back at a party. He was a cool guy and dangerously honest which I liked.
A man had appeared in front and was addressing the crowd about the movie. We chose to ignore him.
I chuckled, knowing the feeling. "This is McKenna," I introduced McKenna.
She gave Dixon a warm smile who leaned forward to get a good look at her in the dimmed auditorium.
"Oh, okay. Yea, I know you. You're that hot new girl with the insane voice, huh," Dixon planted a kiss on her hand. I raised an eyebrow looking down at their hands and then at McKenna who was red in embarrassment.
"Well I wouldn't mind being that girl. Not a bad way to be remembered," she joked.
Dixon nodded grinning, "Well, when you get tired of this one right here. Give me a call."
"You're funny," I replied sarcastically.
"That's one of the many traits the ladies seem to fall for," Dixon winked at McKenna.
"Oh, I have no doubt," McKenna said as the lights faded completely and the guy in front made his exit. Dixon smirked and moved back in his seat focusing on the screen.
I gave her a dull look as the screen came to life.
She raised an eyebrow, "What?"
"You're my date, not his," I whispered not liking the flirtation that was occurring with me in the middle. She could do that on her own time.
"Aw was someone feeling ignored," McKenna mocked.
"No," I stated, "I just need you to focus on what we're doing here."
McKenna rolled her eyes, "My bad, Ethan Hunt. I'll get back to the mission at hand."
"You're so annoying," I hissed as the movie began.
"And you're a child that cries when his demand for attention is ignored." McKenna shot back.
"I wasn't the one hogging the microphone out there."
"Oh please, if you talked we'd have no chance," McKenna accused.
"Yo, love birds," Dixon leaned forward glancing between the two of us, "I may potentially be in love with you, McKenna, but shut up-Both of you."
9:32 p.m.
"Okay, that was pretty damn hilarious," McKenna stated as we followed the crowd out.
"It was stupidly funny," I admitted forgetting our trade in insults. I hadn't laughed that much in a while. At a point I had felt real tears.
"I think I'm going to watch that one again," Dixon admitted wiping his eye. He was the loudest in our area. "I love my manager sometimes," he stated to no one in particular, "I'll catch you guys later. I need to make my big exit. McKenna I'd invite you to be by my side but you just might steal my spotlight."
McKenna laughed as he winked at her, "I think I can live with that."
Dixon smirked, saluting me with two fingers before strutting out of the theatre.
"He's something else," McKenna said, chuckling.
"Definitely," I agreed.
McKenna's phone buzzed for the billionth time since the movie had started. She had to put it on silent half way through.
"Okay, that thing didn't shut up the whole time." I said as couples and solo stars made their way out. Some nodded at me and I greeted them back.
"I was tracking 'Reecenna' on Twitter," she said, "Can you believe people still don't think we're real."
"Imagine that," I feigned shock.
"Ha, some people don't think you're good for me," McKenna grinned as she scrolled through her phone.
Taken back, I looked over at her, "Well I bet some of them think the same about you."
"Nope," she shook her head, "They love me."
People could be a bit rude.
"They must not know you," I grumbled.
"I think their comments are pretty spot on," McKenna replied with a smirk.
I rolled my eyes as I made my way toward the door. I didn't want to admit that they had a legitimate reason to think so.
McKenna fell in step and exhaled putting her phone back, "What else do they want? I swear we're going to have to make a hundred appearances before people start believing us. This movie was great and everything, but I would have rather watched it with my friends-no offense."
"None taken," I shrugged. The idea of dating was not appealing to me either and I had made it just as clear as she did, but we were both stuck in the mess together.
In the most basic sense, we were using each other.
I opened the door for McKenna and followed her out. I found her hand and we made our way through the cameras together. We stopped at the end of the red carpet, waiting for our ride. Looking around at the cameras and various fans that stuck around, an idea struck me.
"How about we speed things up a bit," I leaned and whispered in McKenna's ear.
McKenna drew back, looking up at me quizzically, "How?"
I smirked before closing the remaining distance between us to kiss her. At first McKenna stiffened and didn't reciprocate the kiss. I began to worry that I made the wrong move, but then she pressed her body even closer to my chest. I wrapped my arm around her waist as hers wrapped around my neck. Our lips moved in perfect sync.
I didn't know how to feel as we pulled apart. She was a damn good kisser and I wondered why I never thought of that before.
McKenna stared back at me, her eyes bright and alive, "We should um, probably leave."
I looked around to see every camera trained on the two of us. Even some of the clueless stars had sappy looks on their faces. I smiled, my hand instinctively going to the back of my head.
I completely agreed with her and opened the door to the limo as it stopped in front of us.
I was pretty sure that would kill any speculations that were rising.
I followed after her and closed the door with a smirk, "Reecenna fucking slayed!"
