Bittersweet Festivities
(3rd Person)
Just like all of Dionysus's other parties, this celebration was big and crazy. Everyone was drinking, dancing, gambling, and singing to their heart's content.
Most of the gods were there except for Zeus and of course, Hera. Surprisingly Hades even showed up. Mostly due to Ares persistence and promising him that Zeus wasn't going to be there. All of the gods were at ease with Hades after his last speech, but they were still wary of him.
It was nearing night time and the party was just getting started.
"Hermes, try this." Dionysus handed his big brother a bottle of dark green liquid.
"Don't make me a taste tester to something disgusting again."
"Well, it shouldn't taste that bad...hopefully."
Hermes reluctantly took a sip of the strange water. His eyes widened at the exquisite taste.
"Wonderful!"
"The smooth harmonies of juice hits the tongue of one who is deemed innocent."
"Don't make up weird quotes." Ares came over and sat down beside Hermes.
"I speak the truth."
"Aye okay." Ares mocked Dionysus.
Suddenly, Hermes jerked up and materialized a note in thin air.
"Who's that for?"
"Hephaestus is wondering where I am. Seems like he wants to talk."
"Oh that's great! Tell him to come join us. I've been meaning to tell him sorry about last time." Dionysus said instantly.
Hermes nodded his head and blew the piece of paper into the sky.
"Can you guys take care of him please." Artemis came over with the drunken Apollo on his shoulders.
Hiccup! "Ughh. I feel sick."
"Haha! Don't puke on us." Ares stood up.
Dionysus touched Apollos shoulder and swiftly took away his impaired movements.
"Better now?" Apollo was the weakest drinker out of everyone. That's why when he did get drunk, it would be for showing off.
"Artemis, I'm surprised you're here."
"Apollo forced me to come, telling me to take a break." Artemis sat Apollo down then went about the room to socialize.
"We've never seen your hair so messy, Apollo." Ares laughed at Apollo who was indeed a perfectionist.
"Don't speak nonsense. Here." Apollo rested his head on Hermes' chest. "You fix it."
Hermes began to string his fingers through Apollos hair.
"Acting like a child only with Hermes." The war god remarked.
"Same goes for you when you're around Hades."
Ares looked at Hermes because of his betrayal. No one knew except Hermes, that Ares acts more like a child when he's around his favorite uncle.
"I didn't mean to tell him, it just slipped out."
"Slipped out my a--"
"Don't go speaking in modern language, we will still be offended." Athena showed up after getting off her high horse.
"Look, the king awaits for his wonder whore." Athena slapped the back of Ares' head.
"Try saying that again!"
"Sorry, I forgot you don't have a partner. Well not the sea god mind you."
"Is that supposed to be an insult? Well, it's not because I choose not to have one."
"That's right. You still think that, even after you once declared to become the wife of Perseus? Or was that just a ruse to make the sea god jealous?"
Both Hermes and Apollo side eyed the two of them. They thought, either it was going to turn into a fight or one would have to leave the celebration.
"You can't-fool me, Athena, for I know where your love lies."
Athena began to reach for her sword.
Good thing Dionysus handed Athena one of her favorite wine mixes to shut her up. But that didn't stop her from glancing back at Ares kneading him with her eyes.
"What was that Ares?" Hermes asked.
"Oh, that? I was just teasing her unrequited love for--"
"Poseidon!" Apollo interrupted, "That's hard to believe."
"Not really. Why else would she call Poseidon to her temple? But he did not go to see her, but the beautiful Medusa he heard of. Then out of jealousy, she cursed Medusa with prowess of stone."
Apollo laughed at the seemingly true tale while Hermes looked over at Athena.
It was a thin line of the truth but made complete sense.
Candles were being lit as the sky became completely dark. All the gods were having a great time. The atmosphere was at peace that is until Hephaestus walked in.
"Oh! It's the god of fire." Dionysus ran over to the frowning Hephaestus and greeted him.
"Here's a glass to our better days."
"Mmm." Hephaestus swiftly drank the entire glass and then took the whole bottle away from the wine god.
"Well alright! That's the spirit! Skol to the god of fire everyone!"
"Cheers!" Everyone raised their glasses then went back to their business.
Hephaestus walked over to an empty seat then plopped down. He was in no mood to be happy after what just happened.
After a while, Hermes walked over and sat next to Hephaestus.
"What troubles you?" Hephaestus took another sip of the fine wine then licked his lips.
"I was a fool." The wine bottle was back on his lips right after he spoke.
"A fool? How can that be so?"
"Don't play innocent Hermes. You knew right?"
"Knew--" Suddenly, Hermes knew exactly what he was talking about. His heart began to beat fast thinking of what Hephaestus might do to him.
"Don't worry, I have no more energy to be mad at anyone else. I mean who am I to butt into you siblings long related past." Hephaestus took another bottle off a tray one of the servants were carrying. "I don't even think I should be mad at Aphrodite...but I can't help it."
Hermes was at a loss of words. Should I say sorry, he thought?
"Yo, Hephaestus how's it been?" Ares made his way over to us.
Not good, not good! Hermes thought.
The blacksmith didn't answer; he didn't even look upon the war god.
"...What's your deal?" Ares laughed a bit. He was extremely clueless.
"What the hell is this!" Someone yelled in the distance. Everyone looked up and saw a young man with white wings. Eros scanned the room and when he found Hephaestus, he sprinted towards him.
"Hephaestus! Please come back! Mother is drowning in tears begging for forgiveness."
"Eros, what are you doing here!?"
"I followed you of course, but none of that matters now. Just go comfort mother already."
Whispers went throughout the room as they looked at Eros pull Hephaestus.
"Not that I mind having more guest, but only invited gods are allowed." Dionysus looked Eros up and down.
"Eros!" Artemis hurriedly walked over and grabbed the boy by the arm.
"What are you doing here?"
"Oh, Aunty...Heh...well..." Eros froze.
"Artemis, who is this?" At this point, all the gods were surrounding the winged god.
"He almost resembles you, Ares." Hades said as he pushed past the crowd of Nyphms.
"Uncle, enough of your jokes." Ares laughed a bit before staring back at the boy.
All the gods who knew who he was looked guilty. Artemis, Hermes, Apollo, and Hephaestus.
Artemis shook her head to all of them making sure they didn't reveal anything.
"And why can't I tell?" Hephaestus spoke with he words slurred. He was drunk. "What have I got to hide."
"That's enough drinking for now Hephaestus." Apollo took the bottle from the black smith's hands.
"Everyone should find out just like I did...r-right." Hiccup!
"What do you speak of?"Athena spoke up.
"Could it be he's the child of Nike or Iris?" Dionysus said.
"No you fool, they would have told us if that were true," Athena answered.
Hephaestus' large finger lifted up into the dry air and pointed towards the only god who stood beside himself. When Ares noticed, he blinked a couple of times.
"I don't know when it happened...nor do I care, but you slept with my wife and both of you lied straight to my face!!"
"W-wait thats..."
"Where it stands, you can't deny it. She's ready admitted it!"
Everyone was wary of the big god who edged his way closer to Ares.
"No fighting you hear." Dionysus and Hermes were between them.
"Hephaestus, none of that matters now, wasn't that in the past?" Apollo also stood between the two.
"It matters not, because she still loves him." Hephaestus was on fury road when began to pull out his sword.
"Wait! Hephaestus! Listen, I have no feelings for her at all!" Ares held up his hands.
"Hephaestus, it's fine. I can just impale her with this arrow and she will fall for you right away." Eros gave a cheesy smile.
"No one wants a false love!" The angry Hephaestus began to stumble backward. He was too drunk to even stand. "I...won't forgive yo..." The god of fire fainted onto the floor. Apollo attempted to pull him up with the help of Hermes.
"What do we do with him? We can't take him back to Mount Olympus." Apollo said, straining himself to hold up the big gods left side.
"I'll take him to my temple." Everyone looked over at Athena who snapped her fingers and two servant men appeared. "I'll keep him there for a few days until he calms down at least." Everyone was surprised by Athena's assistance. This was so unlike her in every way. What was she really planning?
Athena's servants pulled the heavy god up effortlessly and headed out the door. "I'll be on my way."
The once party filled room was now filled with questions and curiosity. The Nyphms began to decrease and the servants started to clean up after Dionysus gave the order.
Some of the gods stayed with Eros who was on the verge of tears.
"This is really bad. Mother won't stop crying because of Hephaestus and now Hephaestus won't forgive her." Artemis patted Eros on the back.
"This is all my fault."
"Hey, are you sure Aphrodite is your mother?" Apollo said.
"I already told you so, Apollo." Artemis frowned at her brother.
"Why would I lie about the goddess of love being my mother? She did take care of me for two decades."
Ares could barely look at Eros. He was still in denial over the fact that Aphrodite had a child and didn't tell him about it.
He sighed and stood up. "Where are you going?"
"To talk with Aphrodite.",
"I have to go with you?" Eros stood up and faced his father.
"...Aye, you come as well." For the first time in a while, Ares looked completely serious. Hermes was surprised with his brother's demeanor. He also felt hurt that Aphrodite slept with Ares, but not as hurt as Ares or Hephaestus had.
The two walked out of the temple as is. The party was over and now everyone knew the secret that was kept hidden for almost five decades. No one knew what would happen next. Will Aphrodite and Hephaestus get back together or will they fall apart.
For one event will take place.
The date is set; the time, the haste
Of a woman who wants nothing but true warmth and a man who wants the same,
but it cannot be bought.
And entities will try to break their paths
However, both of them want this glue to last.
One does not love, one thinks they do
For a boy is forgotten, and lies come true
Times get harder for the best of these
At the light of the bittersweet festivities...
