NEW BEGINNINGS
Charlotte drove away from the airport, watching as several massive crates marked with her company's logo were loaded onto a delivery truck.
"Where are we going again, miss Bolton?"
"Bolton-page." Charlotte corrected them "my last name is Bolton-page."
"You're right, my bad."
"I get that a lot, anyways, I'm headed to the office building off of fallen leaves road. I've got a meeting there."
The driver nodded, and continued on their way. On her trip, Charlotte received a call from jasper, and promptly answered.
"Hey jasp, How's it been?" Charlotte asked.
"Same old, same old. Doing illegal shit, fighting the crime ray and Henry don't care about, just generally doing what I want." He replied.
"I'm getting a little worried about them. If they don't change their ways a little, they won't be worth anything in a few years."
"Yeah, The Dawson boys are probably one of the easiest newer criminals to take down, and they stabbed danger the kid with a confederate flag last time they fought. Don't know if I remember correctly, though."
"Really? They can be a lot more ruthless than I thought. I thought they were just idiots that decided to get off of reddit for a minute or so. I thought killing the toddler was the worst they'd done. even other villains didn't like him, though."
"I don't think the dawson boys were responsible for the toddler's death." Charlotte said skeptically. "I don't think they ever found out who it was."
Jasper was quiet for a minute. "You're right, I just assumed it was them. Not like anybody really cares who did it. I think everyone was just happy he was gone."
"Good point. By the way, I can't talk for too long because I'm headed to a meeting right now that may possibly help captain man and danger the kid with their work."
"Wait, WHAT?" Jasper shouted into the phone.
Charlotte pulled the phone away from her ear for a moment.
"Why didn't you say you were on your way to a meeting?"
"Calm down, it's just-"
"I can't stay on the phone, bye!"
Jasper hung up before Charlotte could protest. The businesswoman sighed. He took being a mafia boss a little too seriously.
Soon enough, they arrived. Charlotte walked out and glanced at the succulent garden outside of the building, and the mosaic of colored glass that made up the outside of it gleamed in the sunlight. The colored glass acted as both solar panels and walls, an architectural technique found only in swellview, and a beautiful one at that. Charlotte never ceased to be amazed by how much swellview has changed in two years, and it was for the better. Thanks to her and many other brilliant scientists' work, swellview had quickly become the most technologically advanced city in the United States, and one of the top ten in the world. The city had Also become the clean energy capital of the country, and hopefully soon, the world. Wind turbines that looked like trees scattered the city among the real ones, glass solar panels in vibrant colors created breathtaking mosaics on skyscrapers, and huge gardens were littered in every corner of the city. A place where futuristic technology and the simple beauty of nature came together. She snapped out her daze and headed inside and over to the front desk.
"I'm here for the meeting in room 7014 on floor 15, could you let them know I'm here?" Charlotte asked the man at the front desk.
The man gave her a skeptical look. "That's top secret stuff, you got any identification on you?"
Charlotte nodded and showed the man her drivers' license, which he looked over a bit skeptically for a second before spotting the name.
"You're miss Bolton-page? My apologies for the hold up, take this back and I'll let them know right now."
Charlotte took her license back and thanked the man and headed to the elevator.
Once she reached the right floor, she snuck over to the vending machine and grabbed a can of iced tea before heading over to the room, where she was greeted with a set of both men and women alike in suits, clearly awaiting her arrival. Charlotte than realized she was severely underdressed.
"Oh! I'm sorry, I just got back from the airport after speaking at a convention in New York, and-"
"Although we're a bit disappointed, you'll be fine. We understand that running a company like you do can be pretty frantic at times." One of them said, nodding.
"Good, now, I'm assuming you all want to know why I've gathered you, the international superhero league's top diplomats instead of my typical group." Charlotte began, looking over the rest of the people at the meeting.
"The local superheroes here in swellview, captain man and danger the kid, have been doing quite nicely without the backup of anything, relying entirely on themselves. They've done a good job for a while, but as the villains get more dangerous, I'm afraid they won't be able to protect us anymore."
Everyone at the table looked on in a bit of confusion.
"But, I know they can keep doing what they do. Neither of them are anywhere near aging out. It's just a lack of skill. What I want is for you guys to help me get them into the international superhero league. I've thought about this for a while, and I've concluded it really brings nothing but benefits for them. It's a tough job, as both captain man and danger the kid have grown quite egotistical over the years, but it's still doable."
Everyone looked at each other, before one man with warm beige skin, narrow eyes, and longer black hair spoke up.
"How egotistical are they? You made it seem like it was almost to the point of corruption." He said in his thick korean accent.
"One time when I still worked under them, they committed a felony and framed a friend of mine in the name of protecting me from a situation I could have easily handled myself." The businesswoman replied. She went on to explain several other incidents like that one, but proceeded to remind the others that they aren't beyond help, they just need someone who won't lose their temper easily.
The group was talking among themselves, and after a long bout of discussion, one person agreed to help her. It was a handsome young man with darker brown skin, mostly transparent glasses, and short black curly hair. Charlotte had come across this person before, and he was easily one of the most calm and pleasant people she had ever met. And so, he was the best choice.
When she asked if he would be up to the challenge, which he said yes to, the others sighed in relief. This young man, simply known as mr. Sonders, was known for staying calm in the face of some of the most arrogant people.
Charlotte thanked him and offered him a ride to the man cave to speak with the heroes in question, and so they were on their way.

"How are you doing? Do you need me to get you some water or something?" Ray asked his sidekick, practically hovering over him like an animal with their young.
"Ray, it's not that big of a deal." Henry replied, looking at the bandages wrapped around his arm as he sat on the man cave couch.
"You were stabbed, of course it's a big deal!"
"Yeah, with a sharper than usual flagpole. The medic said it wasn't a super serious wound, it's not like I'm dying of blood loss."
"He also told you not to use that arm for a few days." Ray said, half jogging over to get Henry some water.
"Yeah, but you don't have to make me sit here on this couch and help me walk everywhere!" The blond replied and took the glass of water. "It's a minor stab wound on my arm, not a broken leg."
"Well-" ray paused for a minute. "...actually, you're right, but you can still let me know if you need anything."
Ray was about to walk away, but the elevator opened to reveal Charlotte and a young man in a suit neither of them recognized.
"Charlotte!" Henry greeted her, smiling despite the injury. "Who's your friend here?"
Ray was about to walk away, but Charlotte looked over at him with a death glare, which sent him back over to the couch.
"Alright, you two, this is mr. Sonders. He's a diplomat from the international superhero league."
"The what?" The two heroes said in unison. Henry had no idea such a thing existed, he thought he was one of the only superheroes out there.
"A United Nations-type organization for superheroes around the world, we give superheroes everywhere support as needed, whether that means another superhero in the program arrives to help, giving some of them upgrades, things like that." He explained. "Miss bolton-page told me you two could definitely benefit from joining us."
Henry and ray exchanged confused glances.
"Why would we want to do that?" The blond asked. "We do just fine as we are right now."
Mr. Sonders took a deep breath. "I hate to the be bearer of bad news, but-"
"No, you're not doing just fine." Charlotte said. "If you guys took a minute or two to look outside of your little bubble, you would know that in a few years, you'll be useless. You won't stand a chance against anyone!"
"That's it, let me tell you something here..." Henry stood up, only for ray to put his hand out and stop him.
"We can do just fine on our own, we don't need some fancy organization to come whisk us away to their headquarters and teach us their ways when he have an entire city to protect." Ray said, crossing his arms and holding his head up with a 'what can you do' attitude.
"You don't have to go anywhere, we can bring some people to help train here."
Henry got quiet for a moment, and ray started to reconsider.
If some superhero from, like, Germany or something that's not nearly as cool as ray and I came here to teach us stuff, we could show off our awesome base, and all our cool weapons!
After a few moments of thought, Henry spoke up.
"We'll join, but only if you give me some time to recover, and send in someone to run a test to see if we really need training or not."
Ray seems genuinely surprised that Henry spoke up like that, but wasn't exactly protesting.
"...that was the plan anyways, but that's great! Let us know when you're all ready to go." Mr. Sonders replied, handing them both the necessary contact information and leaving with Charlotte.
Henry quickly stuffed it in his pocket, while ray threw his away when henry wasn't looking.
After several long weeks, Henry was finally in top shape again, and contacted the international superhero league. What would be more fun than joining a huge organization full of superheroes from all over the world? Surely he and ray would be the coolest people there.
Ray, on the other hand, seemed much less enthusiastic about it, but Henry couldn't quite put his finger on why.
"Hey, ray. Why aren't you more excited about this? We're going to meet so many cool people!" The blond asked his friend one morning.
"I am excited, though." Ray said in a pretty monotonous voice.
"...then why don't you seem like it?"
Ray simply shrugged and walked off to get dressed.
"Someone's coming by here later From the league, transform into danger the kid and I'll go transform into captain man."
While he was gone, someone came down the tubes. It was someone, clearly a superhero, with an outfit of mostly white steel, it was pretty bulky near his legs to accommodate pretty big boot like shoes with a glowing bit of neon green metal at the bottom, but when it got to their torso and above, the armor became thin and form fitting. The white steel was complimented by neon green accents all over, and a helmet to Match.
"Is this where captain man and danger the kid can be found?" They asked.
Henry, who had already transformed, stared at him for a minute.
"Yeah, why?"
"I'm from the international superhero league. I'm agent melty."
"Agent melty?" Captain man said as he came out from behind the corner. "What kind of name is that?"
"Clearly a more creative name than yours, captain man." They snapped.
The brunet tried to come up with a comeback, but quietly walked out near where danger the kid was without speaking.
"Okay, so what we're going to do here is run some tests. show me what you can do, what your base here is like, stuff like that." Agent melty instructed, looking over something on a screen they couldn't see.
And so, these tests began. Ray and Henry gave them everything they had. Demonstrated their weapons and everything they could do, gave him an in depth tour of the man cave, and showed off their fighting skills with the most energy and charisma anyone had seen them with.
But, it was to no Avail. Agent melty just laughed a little, he clearly tried to hide it, but it didn't work.
Beyond offended, danger the kid asked condescendingly to see what agent melty could do, which was exactly what agent melty did.
he used a small blaster matching his color scheme to fire spheres of a green substance into the air, and according to the blaster settings, could either be used as a trap, a weapon projectile or even an improvised rope or grappling hook. He could also use the bottom of his suit's armor to suction to walls, but only by his feet. Overall, they seemed much better at what they do than ray and Henry did.
The two superheroes asked for this newcomer to help them, and after a lot of pleading, he agreed.
This mystery superhero called the international superhero league to send over a team of mechanics to give the base a complete makeover and provide them with new suits and weapons with Charlotte's help.
Despite the sudden change, ray and Henry knew better times were ahead.
