A bit more than a prosthetic...
it sucks I am sorry
Jasper burst into the room, holding a rather large weapon and pointing it at a masked villain, while captain man and kid danger watched. There was no reason for jasper to have come out to help, but there he stood, with a weapon kid danger had never seen before.
Kid danger was glad he had come to help out the two heroes, the masked villain fought valiantly, and kid danger wasn't sure if it was a fight they could win.
"Who are you?" The masked villain shouted to jasper, their white foxlike mask shining in the light of the room.
"My name's not important." Jasper said, raising the weapon. "Stop what you're doing and leave captain man and kid danger alone, or I'll shoot!"
Kid danger got a closer look and noticed jasper had the weapon backwards, aiming towards himself. He wasn't alarmed, jasper Normally made blunders like this and would just temporarily stun himself. Captain man, however, despite being aware of his tendency to do these things, looked horrified.
"What're you going to do, hit me with a laser that won't even work?" The masked villain taunted.
"Drop what you stole and leave!" Jasper shouted, preparing the weapon to fire.
"Or else what? Captain man and kid danger don't stand a chance against me!"
Kid danger watched captain man's horrified expression as the weapon began to light up, a sign of charging up to fire.
"I'm counting to three, you fox-masked freak!" Jasper shouted as he put his finger on the trigger, unaware that the weapon was facing him.
Captain man turned to kid danger. "RUN!" He barked before grabbing his arm and bolting away.
"Wait, what's going on?" Kid danger asked as captain man practically threw him into the mancopter and started it up.
"Stay low!" He shouted. Kid danger froze in terror as he heard and explosion go off where jasper was, and captain man took off.
"W-what was that?" He asked.
"My most powerful weapon." Captain man replied solemnly. "It was highly unstable and was nowhere near ready for use."
Kid danger didn't reply and instead watched as Charlotte ran into the rubble where the building they were in once stood. Did jasper make it? He asked himself, despite evidence suggesting he didn't.
Throughout the entire ride back, the fires of rage burned deep within kid danger, and just when the flames were about to engulf him, the rains of sadness and rationality brought the fire down.
When he got back to the man cave, neither of them spoke to each other. They simply transformed back into themselves, and Henry left immediately.
"Hey, where are you going?" Ray asked.
"Home." Henry replied as he threw his gumball tube at ray in indignation. "And I swear if Jasper's dead, this is the last time you'll see me or kid danger." Henry then went up the elevator, and went home, ignoring the storm of emotions swallowing him.
For the next three weeks, Henry had seen no sign of jasper or Charlotte anywhere, and he was starting to get really worried. He'd stop talking to people when he came home and simply just sat in his room and stared at the wall for hours on end. He'd try texting jasper, but he never got a response, he'd try Texting Charlotte, but she would only say it's something in the man cave. Hell, he even tried contacting Sidney and Oliver, and they would only say that they haven't heard from jasper. Henry knew there was no actual confirmation that he was dead, but he feared that was true nonetheless. But one day, his watch lit up with a call.
Henry ignored it. He didn't want to hear ray complain about the fact that Henry left. But as soon as it stopped ringing, Charlotte called. Henry picked up the phone.
"hello?" Henry asked groggily.
"Come to the man cave immediately. It's about jasper!" Charlotte replied.
"Wait, really?"
"Yeah, we have both good news and bad news."
"Why can't you just tell me over the phone?"
"Just get over here!"
Henry reluctantly climbed out his window and walked to junk n stuff, when he reached the man cave, he was surprised to see a large team of doctors and mechanics, with ray and Charlotte among them. Most of them were staring at an empty doorway, while others were watching a monitor.
"Hey, what's happening?" Henry asked. Charlotte walked over to meet him.
"Henry! So, we have some good news and bad news." She explained.
"Before you tell me that, may i ask why ray is putting one of our weapons through a shredder, and putting all the shredded up metal in a bucket with gasoline in it?" Henry asked as he watched ray hastily search for some matches.
"That's the weapon jasper set off over a month ago." Charlotte explained. "He's trying to destroy it."
"Okay?" Henry found it reasonable why ray would want to get rid of it, but why like that?
"Okay," Charlotte began. "The good news is that jasper survived, thanks to these doctors and mechanics. If it weren't for them he wouldn't be here."
Henry felt as if a great weight was lifted off of him, the dark fog in his eyes cleared up in a matter of seconds, and he was overjoyed. "Really, can we see him?"
"Not right now!" Ray chimed in. "Everyone in here is waiting to see jasper, he'll be out when he's ready."
"The bad news is...jasper suffered a lot of injuries that didn't leave him the same." Charlotte said quietly, shifting uncomfortably. Ray's eyes dropped to the floor, and all was quiet for a moment.
"What happened? Does he have like a prosthetic leg or something?" Henry asked.
"...a bit more than a prosthetic." Charlotte replied.
"Way more than a prosthetic." Ray added.
"Huh?" Henry said, growing worried.
Charlotte motioned for a doctor to explain.
"The explosion left jasper blind in one eye, half deaf, and without working legs or a right arm." The doctor said solemnly.
"So we amassed all the best doctors and mechanics to fix all of this, and we did." A mechanic added.
Henry was about to ask what was happening, but was interrupted by ray.
"Everybody, shut up! Jasper's coming out here!" Ray shouted before walking away to help him.
Everyone was staring at the doorway, and it was dead silent in the man cave. Henry could hear Jasper's muffled voice, and when he walked out, Henry couldn't believe his eyes.
Everyone in the room erupted into cheers and applause as jasper stood there. Henry noticed that almost his entire body was robotic, his right arm and his entire lower body plated with silver, black, and blue titanium, with shining tubes running across his arm and legs. Henry noticed that The only human bits of jasper that showed were his head and neck, his left arm, and half of his chest.
Jasper looked around, shocked at how many people were around. Henry was surprised to see jasper now had some small wires behind his ears, and a single gray eye that stood out from the rest of his face. Is that the eye he went blind in? Does he now have a robot eye there instead?
Once the cheers and applause died down, jasper looked around at everyone in the room, with ray by his side, making sure the young man was standing alright.
"Ray, who are all these people?" Jasper asked, eyeing the crowd. Henry was in the very back of everyone, so he wasn't all that sure if his friend could see him.
Ray smiled, though Henry could see guilt deep in his eyes. "These are all the people who helped you become what you are now, you wouldn't be here if it weren't for them!"
Jasper looked around once more. "This is amazing, I can't thank you all enough!"
Murmurs of pride rippled through the crowd.
"Is there anything you want jasper? A drink? Some food?" Ray asked.
"I want to see my friends. Are Henry and Charlotte here?" Jasper asked, before walking rather slowly through the crowd. Ray followed, trying to make sure jasper didn't fall over. Henry watched as ray guided jasper to the couch, and then walked over with Charlotte to talk to him.
"Hey guys!" Jasper greeted the two enthusiastically. "Is this not the coolest thing ever?"
"It's really awesome that you're practically a cyborg now." Henry said. "Like, you're bionic jasper now."
"As cool as that sounds, I'd rather you guys keep calling me jasper." He said smiling. Henry noticed the steel in his gray eye shining.
"We'd love for you to catch up with your friends, but there's some important things we need to talk about." One of the mechanics said, helping jasper off the couch.
"So, considering all the bionic body parts of yours, you're going to have to starting charging them like you charge a phone. They don't all have to be charged individually, though. See that small panel on your shoulder?" The mechanic began. Jasper looked over at it. "That's got a charger port in it, think about moving the panel, and it'll slide away to reveal the charger port!"
Jasper did just that and watched the panel slide out of the way. "Cool, but where's the charger then?"
The mechanic put her finger on a large, circular plate in the middle of Jasper's chest. "Right there! Think about opening the compartment, and then pull out the charger." Jasper obliged, and the top of the circular plate popped open to reveal a long cord similar to the chargers used for laptops.
"...do I need to plug myself in right now? How do I know my battery is running low?" Jasper asked as he shoved the charger back into the compartment and closed both panels.
"Well, you'll feel inexplicably tired." The mechanic began. "But you can always check your battery percentage whenever you want. There's a small panel on your wrist that's slides away to reveal a screen that shows you both battery percentage and the current status of your bionic body."
Jasper looked at his left arm, searching for a panel.
"No, your other arm."
Jasper looked, and watched as the steel panel slid away to reveal a bunch of stats and of course, the battery percentage.
"That's amazing!" Jasper exclaimed. "I just have one more question...did you give me the snack compartment on my leg like I asked?" The mechanic nodded, and jasper grinned.
Once he sat back down with Henry and Charlotte, the two could only stare in disbelief after seeing what had just happened.
"I'll have to stay in the man cave for a while, I need get the hang of being, well, bionic jasper." He explained. "I still trip a lot, and I'm trying to figure out my own strength."
"Are you going to tell Sidney and Oliver about this?" Charlotte asked.
"You know I will! I just need to think of a cover story." Jasper answered sheepishly.
"Hey, jasper! Since you'll be staying here in the man cave, there's something you probably should know." Ray said, walking over to the three of them.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"Put some goddamn clothes on!"
