Chapter 23: Roman's Home
Roman grunts as he jerks awake, squinting in confusion as he looks around him. Seeing that he was in his sister's room...in a hospital bed with tubes and wires attached to his body. He looks over and sees Peter and Celena hugging each other.
"If you two fuck in my sister's room, she's gonna be so pissed." He mutters.
Celena and Peter both jump out of each other's arms with a gasp and look over at Roman in complete shock.
Roman grunts as he starts pulling off the wires and oxygen tube off his face, "What time is it?" He mutters and smacks his lips. He had the worse taste in his mouth.
"It's two weeks since you passed out." Peter says as continues to look at him in shock, trying to process that he was up and talking. Celena stood frozen in shock.
"What? Oh, fuck me." Roman groans out and sits up. "The full moon." He says as he looks out the window, seeing that the sun was still up. He sees a clock by Shelley's desk, it was almost noon.
"It's tonight." Peter says.
Roman nods, understanding now, "That's why I had to come back now. That's why I had to come back." He begins to move, but Peter stops him.
"Whoa, wait, wait. Easy, easy. We should get you a doctor. All right?"
Roman scoffs, "Why?"
"Complications?" Peter shrugs.
"What kind?"
"How the fuck should I know? I-I was told that comas cause blank spots or memory shit." Peter mutters.
"What? So I check out for two weeks and suddenly I'm a fucking retard?" Roman says sarcastically.
He stops and looks over at Celena who continues to stand frozen, "Celena? You ok?" Roman asks.
Finally, Celena snaps out of her thoughts and rushes to hug him tight.
"Woah! It's ok." He hold her against him. He rubs her back as she starts crying. "I'm ok, Cell. I'm here." He whispers. God, he missed her the most of all. He missed her much.
Celena sobs and pulls away and begins to hit him over and over, "You fucking dick! Don't you ever do that again!"
"Woah! Woah! Ow! Stop!" Roman shouts as he covers himself from the hits.
"Son of a bitch! Dickhead!" Celena continues to hit him and curse him till Roman grabs her and holds her, "Let go! Let me go! Fucker!" She shouts and fights till she goes limp and cries.
"I'm sorry. Ok? I'm sorry." Roman sighs and rocks her. He looks up at Peter, "Could have helped me, dick."
"Well, you kinda deserve it." Peter mutters.
Roman sighs, "So, you know what happened?" He asks.
Peter nods, "Yeah. Your mom said you OD'd."
Roman nods, "Yeah. Pretty stupid, huh? The thing is I...I made some mistakes, OK? But we really need to do this." Roman says as he gently let's go of Celena and makes her look at him. "I'm sorry. Ok? I promise I'll never do that again. I swear to you." He says as he cradles her face in his hands, wiping away her tears with his thumb.
Celena swallows hard and sighs, "Ok, but what do we need to do?" She asks as she gets up, wiping away her tears and folds her arms over her.
"Kill the vargulf. Make...make...make things right." Roman stutters as he begins to shove the blankets and sheets off him.
"As much as I fucking hate to say it, the ball's in my court now, OK?" Peter states.
Roman simply shake his head, "No."
"What do you mean, no? What are you doing? Come on." Peter scoffs at him and watches Roman struggle to get out of bed. He tries to help, but Roman shoves Peter away.
"I'm getting the fuck up! I'm getting the fuck up!" He shouts and stands straight.
Peter holds his hands up in surrender, "OK. All right. OK. OK. We both made some." He says.
"What?" Roman frowns in confusion.
"Mistakes." Peter says.
Roman sighs and nods, understanding.
"We know why the Vargulf is only hunting women." Celena says. "It knows the Moon is a woman. Roman's right, we need to find the Vargulf before he discovers who is the moon. He's gonna keep coming till he finds me, no matter how many bodies pile up behind it."
Roman swallows roughly, "We need to go. We're running out of time." He says strongly and moves to change his clothes.
Together, all three head out of the mansion and towards the garage. When Roman opens the garage door, he sighs in relief when he sees his jaguar waiting for him.
"Thank God." Roman breathes out.
"So you're just gonna walk away?" Peter frowns at Roman.
"What, you want to leave a note?" Roman scoffs.
"Fuck that. Like we want anyone to know where we're going." Celena states.
Roman nods, "Yeah. Look, this thing we have to do, my mom's not part of it. She gets pissed, I'll blame it on a blank spot." He chuckles.
"Wait." Celena waves her hand and Roman's keys fly out of his hand and into hers. "No driving for you. Not till I trust you behind the wheel."
Roman sighs, "Fine. Either of you know how to drive stick?"
"Just give me the fucking keys." Peter mutters.
Celena tosses them into the air and Peter grabs them before they hit the ground, "Your move." She says as she gets in first to sit in the middle and Roman opens the garage door wider.
Together they take off towards their hunt. First, Roman needed to make sure Shelley was safe and to make sure she will be home before sundown. Peter takes a leaf covered road and Roman hangs out of his window, smiling at the fresh air hitting his face.
"Woo!" He shouts as they make a sharp turn and laughs.
Peter drove them till they reached the docks, he stops the car near the construction site. They could see the old mill from where they parked.
Roman frowns at Peter, "Why are we stopping?"
The wind blows strongly around them all, hair flying every. Celena had to catch her hair and tie it back.
"Because someone needs to say it. The vargulf is my problem. I'm the one on the hook."
"But if you run into trouble, you'll need us." Celena says.
"I need you safe." Peter argues.
Roman shrugs, "And?" Waiting for more restrictions, but Celena knew he wasn't gonna be easily restrained.
Peter sighs, "Why are you here?"
Roman looks away, "You know." He said as if it was obvious.
"Yeah, I thought I did...for a while. Then it all went to shit. Tell me why you want to come with me tonight. I know Celena's reason, but yours...I need to hear that you have your head on straight tonight." Peter says.
"It's not about being a hero." Roman says.
"Are you sure about that?" Peter asks.
Roman sighs, "I'm sorry for being a pain in your balls, OK? I got confused. Things are clearer now." He says, stating the truth. "And I'm sorry for scaring the shit out of you." He turns to Celena, giving her a gentle look.
Celena sighs softly and leans to lay her head on his shoulder.
"At what point does trusting you make me a fucking idiot?" Peter says, rubbing his face as if he was kicking himself.
"I wish no one else had to get hurt." Roman says, looking down in sympathy.
"Someone is...tonight." Peter states. Fear reeked from his pores and mixed with his anxiety.
"And we're gonna stop him before someone does." Celena says.
Roman nods, "I know. Look, I just wanna be your friend. You shouldn't be out there alone. Simple as that." He says to Peter.
"Exactly. If you think either one of us is gonna leave you alone to the Vargulf, you're a fucking idiot." Celena scoffs at him.
"Are you under control though?" Peter asks while Roman frowns with worry. What has he missed?
Celena looks off and sees a barrel that was a few feet away from the docks. She inhales sharply and holds out a hand and makes a tight fist. At the same time, metal whines and crunches as the barrel wads up into a big ball.
Celena sighs and wipes away the blood from her nose, looking over to Peter, "Need I say more?"
Peter laughs as Roman smirks, waiting for Peter's answer.
"You're two are loose cannons. I'm gonna have your ***damn stripes for this." Peter chuckles with Roman and Celena.
He restarts the car and takes off towards the school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It's almost like a dream. We're all just passing through the motions of our days like shadow puppets or ghosts of who we were." Letha sighs as she walks with Matt and Shelley.
Viktor was suspended, Shelley misses his presence. But, like Letha, she missed her brother more.
Shelley takes her phone, "I miss him too."
Letha rests her head on Matt's shoulder, "Think anything can ever be the same?" She asks.
"Try not to worry. I bet Roman will be up and at 'em before you two can say...'Hokey-pokey'." Matt shrugs and gives Shelley a crooked grin.
"Hokey-pokey."
Letha laughs and gives Shelley a hug as the bell rings for the next class.
"See you later." She says and heads to her class with Matt.
Meanwhile, Peter pulls up to the entrance of the school and Roman and Celena gets out of the car to search for Shelley. First window they find had a class in a prayer circle.
"Lest you not forsake us, Lord, and sustain us. Bless and protect your flock, those who follow and those who stray. And if it be Thy will, the recovery of fellow student Roman Godfrey, who remains in a coma."
Roman scoffs and points at another window, "Come on, Shelley's art class just started." He says as he takes her hand and leads her to the other windows.
Shelley and her class were assigned to do a portrait of a fruit platter. She sadly paints as the teacher walks around.
"Good work. A little shading there Darker down there. That's really good."
Roman smiles and gently taps on the window as he spots Shelley. Shelley frowns and turns towards the window. She smiles big when she sees her brother, awake and ok. She was bursting in joy.
Celena was pointing at Roman from behind with a big smile. 'He's awake!', She mouths.
Roman places a finger over his lips at Shelley and points to meet him. Shelley nods and quickly types on her phone while raising her hand.
"Ladies room. Emergency."
"OK, Shelley." The teacher says.
Shelley rushes out of the room and heads towards the entrance stairs. She smiles big as Roman runs in towards her arms. Shelley picks him up and hugs him so tight.
"OK, Shelley. Shelley. Shh. It's OK, I'm fine." Roman calms her as she jumps up and down in excitement, her feet makes tiny booming noises.
"You kept your promise." Shelley types as she smiles at Celena.
"I told you we would help him find his way home." Celena says as she takes Shelley's hand in comfort.
Shelley hugs her tightly as well, making Celena giggle and hug her back
"Ok, Shelley. Calm down." Celena pulls away from the hug and sighs.
"I'm glad you're back." Shelley says.
"I know. I didn't want you to worry, but I'm really OK." Roman assures her.
"Does mother know?"
Roman sighs, "I have something I need to do first."
"Don't go." Shelley gives him a sad look.
"I'm not going anywhere, but I started something I can't walk away from, and it's really important you still believe in me. OK? Nothing is more important right now. I'll be home soon. I'll come back to you." He promises and takes off his glove to stroke her face, making it glow.
Shelley smiles, missing that feeling he always gives her.
"Don't worry, Shelley, I promise I'll watch over him. When you get home, call Viktor and tell him to come over to your place before sundown. Tell Matt to call me when you see him, ok?" Celena says as she places her hand back over Shelley's, giving it a comforting grip.
Shelley nods and sighs sadly as she watches her brother leave with Celena. She grabs her phone to text one more time.
"Be good."
"Yeah, that's the idea." Roman smirks and opens the door for Celena. Together, they walk back towards the car and when they opened the door, the radio blares an emergency announcement.
Peter got the top back on the car as he listens to the radio. Celena gets in first, then Roman. The three of them begin to listen to the report.
"Sheriff Sworn, could you address some of the wild rumors going around about the nature of these attacks? Is this in fact a wild animal, or, as the fringe have suggested, is it some maniac mimicking a werewolf?"
Sherriff Sworn's voice erupts from the radio, "Forensics tells us the attacks are animal in nature, but the pattern of the last two months can't be denied. Meaning what exactly? Meaning a curfew will be in effect for all minors as of sundown. Non-minors on the street after sundown will be expected to have a damn good reason to be."
"Thank you, Sheriff Sworn. You heard it. Stay inside and lock your doors."
"Let's go." Roman says.
After discovering Roman missing, along with Celena, Olivia sits on the hospital bed and awaits for Shelley to arrive home. Olivia already knew where Roman and Celena were. With Peter. Hunting the monster. The full moon shined through the windows as the sun was getting closer to touching the set.
Viktor came over as soon as possible once Shelley texted him. Together, they meet Olivia in the bedroom. Shelley became fearful of her mother at every step she took forward when she sees her sitting.
"I don't suppose you know anything about this? Where Roman's gone?" Olivia asks.
Shelley shakes her head, but Olivia scoffs, The beauty of your inability to speak is the inability to lie. It's rather refreshing of my children. Don't worry. I'm not cross. With you, at any rate." Olivia assures her and gestures her to sit next to her.
"You're worried?" Shelley types with a questionable look.
"Of course I am, but there's no pleasanter feeling than of necessity. Unfortunately, if you've done your job adequately, in spite of yourself, you find you're not needed at all. You think I haven't known what he was up to this entire bloody while? These roles were assigned before recorded time. These same boards trod a thousand generations. And somehow the climax is as unforeseeable and astonishing every ***damn time." Olivia sighs.
"Will he be all right?"
"It's a pity you don't drink." Olivia mutters as she pats Shelley's hand. She looks over to Viktor with a frown, "Why are you here?"
Viktor shrugs, "Full moon. You could say I'm security." Celena already told him that Olivia knew about her abilities. And he guesses she knew about his as well.
Olivia nods, "Thank you, Viktor. I will be going out. I'll be back soon. Don't worry, dears. I'll be safe." She assures Shelley as she expresses worry towards her mother.
"Viktor, watch over my daughter and protect her." She gets up and walks up towards him and points a warning finger at him, "If you try anything, I'll give you a matching scar on the other side." She threatens.
Viktor glares at her, "Yes, ma'am."
Olivia smirks, knowing that 'yes, ma'am' was a 'fuck you'. She turns and leaves them be.
Peter, Celena, and Roman made it in time at the mill, parking Roman's car inside so they wouldn't have anymore trouble with the cops patrolling around. They leaned on the car as they go over the plan. Celena stood in the middle of them as she wraps her coat tight around her. Temperature was dropping as the sun continues to go down further.
"You're sure about this?" Roman asks as he lights up a cigarette.
Peter scoffs, "Are you?" He asks.
When Roman was silent, Peter explains most of his plan, "I'll be able to pick up its scent from where it left the girl." He states as he points to where they found Lisa's legs.
"Will we be able to keep up?" Roman asks.
"No. You should watch your back. And watch over Celena." Peter says.
"We'll watch each other's." She says then jumps when her cell goes off. "Oh, it's Matt." She answers the call. "Hey, Matt. Yeah, he's awake. He's ok...we're..." Celena's voice trails off as she walks away from them.
Peter and Roman both watch her, thinking the same thing about her. Roman sighs and takes another puff.
"You in love with her?" Peter asks.
Roman lets out a slow exhale, licking his lips, "She told you?" Meaning about their night together.
"We were fighting about it before you woke up." Peter states.
"You gonna tell me to stay away from her? After this?" Roman asks.
"No." Peter shakes his head, "Got no choice anyway." He laughs out a scoff and Roman could see he was talking about the connection. It was too strong now to contain and Peter was tired of fighting it as well as Roman was, too, "But are you?"
Roman sighs, silent for a moment, then finally nods, "Yeah. Yeah, I am."
Peter nods and looks away, sighing softly.
"Do you love her?" Roman asks.
Peter swallows hard and nods, "Yeah.
Roman lets out a breathy laugh, "Shee-it."
"Shee-it." Peter exhales in disbelief.
"Once this is over, we'll figure this out. Don't expect any threesomes or shit like that." Peter frowns.
"Like I want to touch your gypsy dick." Roman scoffs.
Peter snickers and clears his throat when Celena walks back to them.
"Ok, Matt is staying at Letha's. Viktor is with Shelley. So, we got those areas covered. They'll be safe." She assures Roman.
Roman nods, "Good. Thanks for watching over her while I was in la-la land." He snorts.
Celena sighs, "Do you remember anything? From when you were out?"
"A little. Still mostly a feeling, like I have something unfinished...something I need to do."
"Like what?" Peter asks.
"Guess I'll know when I see it." Roman shrugs.
"Hmm." Celena sighs and leans back on the car.
What seemed like hours going back, Peter finally begins to feel the wolf clawing out. He had to hurry.
"OK. OK. OK." He sighs and turns to Roman, placing his hands on his shoulders, making sure Roman was paying attention, "If anything happens tonight, this is on you. I have to do this alone." He looks at both of them.
Celena nods and rubs her bottom lip with worry.
"I know." Roman nods.
Exhaling sharply, Peter gives Roman's cheek a love tap, gripping his shoulders anxiously, "God help us."
Roman laughs and Peter begins to walk off, "Don't go following me." He warns them both.
"Yeah, yeah, we won't." "Be careful." Celena and Roman say.
Norman walks into his house with a sigh. Seeing Christina sometimes makes him worry for his daughter. Christina's condition continues to show no improvement. In fact, she almost seems as if she was getting worse. He walks into his kitchen and sees his wife with her bare-feet propped up on the table and glass of wine next to her as she reads a book.
"Hey. Everything all right?" He asks.
"I'm in for the night with Wharton and the pricey stuff." She says.
"Well, it is an occasion." He says.
She holds up her wine glass and he refills it, eyeing the wine. As it was filled enough, she hands to him.
He sighs and takes a sip, "Letha?" He asks.
"She's ok. But...Matthew is here. Refuses to leave. I guess he's scared like everyone is. Trying to be protective." She laughs softly. "It's sweet, when you think about it."
Norman exhales sharply, "You gonna let him stay?"
"In the living room. That's as far as he shall go. He's been there since I told him." She smirks. "He's definitely a gentleman. Which is very refreshing to see during this generation." Marie sighs out.
"Hmm." Norman was still unsure, but he likes Matt...so far. He getting on his good side.
"Desire to fight is zero percent. Apparently Peter was attacked yesterday. Some boys beat him up after school. Letha and Matt saw the whole thing." Marie says.
Norman shakes his head, "Jesus."
"At a time like this, the only thing there is...is to stay together. You're home. She's safe. We have so much to be thankful for." Marie says.
"Oh, yeah, yeah. I know."
"She's lucky to have you as a father." Marie says softly.
Norman hands her back the wine, "Where is she?"
She takes it, "She's in the kitchen."
Norman walks in and gives his daughter a smile, "Hey."
"Hey." She says as she puts away her homework, "I'm gonna make some pasta...Boscaiola." He says.
"Sounds good. Will there be enough for Matt or shall we throw him scraps?" She scoffs. "Sorry, I'm sorry. I'm not me right now." Letha apologizes.
"Why is he here?" Norman asks.
Letha sighs and shrugs, "He's worried. Everyone is. Peter got in his head about there could be another attack tonight and he just wants to make sure it won't be me."
Norman nods, "He cares about you. I can see that. I like him. I do. He's a smart guy, got a good head on his shoulders. He treats you well...right?"
Letha gives him a soft smile and a nod.
"Good." He rubs his face and sighs deeply, "You know, I wish it wasn't part of the mythic cycle that I inevitably disappoint you."
"You don't. And you couldn't." Letha says and earns a kiss on her hand.
"You know, maybe you want to watch a bad movie with me later." Norman chuckles.
"Yeah. Maybe I will. And Matt." She laughs and gets up to kiss her dad on the head and walks off.
Norman sighs and looks up through the window, seeing the full moon rising as the sun has gone completely down.
Celena and Roman both leaned on the car as they wait for Peter to change. Celena shudders from the cold air and feels Roman wrap an arm around her.
"You ok?"
Celena scoffs, "Should I ask you that?" She laughs, her breath coming out in cold puffs. "I mean, you're the one who's been asleep for two weeks."
"I'm ok." He assures her.
"Really?" She asks.
He sighs, "I'm more concerned about you. I remember what I did and I'm sorry for endangering you. I just..."
"Wanted answers. I know and I did, too. But we need to be smarter. Not get ourselves hurt or killed. It scared me to death when he drugged you. I thought he killed you." Celena says with a broken look.
Roman holds her close, "I'm sorry." He says again.
"I know." She sighs.
"So, Peter knows...about...us." Roman says.
Celena nods, "Yeah. And I'm glad. I was keeping that a secret since you were under. It killed me." She mutters.
"Did you regret it?" He asks.
Celena scoffs and turns to face him completely, "Never. Not once."
Roman sighs softly, more in relief, "Me either." He gives her a crooked smile and cups her face in his hand. He leans down and places a soft kiss over her lips. Holding her close against him as the kiss deepens. He misses this more. The feel of her. Her taste.
They both pant as the kiss breaks, "Still no regrets." He smiles.
Celena laughs softly against his lips, but before they could kiss more, a howl erupts from where Peter walked off to. Celena gasps and moves closer against Roman in fear.
"Ok, we can't follow him. He'll be too fast for us to catch up. But fuck it right?" Celena says.
Roman laughs, "Fuck this. Come on." He takes her hand and they rush towards where Peter was suppose to be. Seeing the aftermath of the change and bloody chunks of Peter's body everywhere. Steaming in a big pile.
"Peter?" Roman calls out and, suddenly, a black wolf races past. They quickly move to meet the wolf as it walks up towards them.
Roman bows to meet the wolf's height, making sure it was Peter.
"Peter?" Celena asks.
Peter answers with a low growl, "I'm here."
"He can hear us." Celena says.
Roman nods, still cautious, "Ok, I'll just be here. Is there a scent?" He asks.
Peter sniffs the air, "He was here. He's not far."
"The Vargulf was here. He's got his scent." Celena gasps.
Peter takes off, following the scent. Roman and Celena struggle to catch up, but he was too fast. And too focused on finding the Vargulf. None of them realized that Dr. Chasseur was following them from above. Targeting Peter with her dart rifle. Once she had him in his crosshairs...
Peter whimpers and falls to the ground when the shot goes off.
"Peter!" Roman shouts and rushes to help him.
"P...!" Celena rushes behind, but gasps when a hand shots out from the shadows and she finds herself in strong grip. She looks up and sees it was Olivia.
"Shh." She hushes Celena softly and, together, they watch Roman and Chasseur fight over Peter.
"Stay back!"
"What is that?"
Chasseur holds her gun at Roman, averting her eyes, "Ketamine dart."
"OK, you don't understand. You need to listen..."
But Chasseur didn't want to listen, she had her eyes on her prize.
"There's plenty more of it if you take another step." She threatens.
"Listen to me..."Roman tries to do the 'look', but Chasseur was ready.
"Do not attempt eye contact. Keep your hands where I can see them. Do not attempt eye contact. I will shoot you."
"It's not him. I said it's not him!"
"How do you know that?" She scoffs.
"Because I was with him the last time, the whole night."
"You're lying. You have a tell, a wavering tremolo, if you will, in your voice.
"If you hurt him, you're dead, you hear me? You're dead." Roman threatens.
"He's fine. If you threaten me again I'll come over there and break your teeth in."
"OK, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but I'm telling you, you don't know what you're doing right now. It's not Peter. We were tracking the vargulf. That's why we came out here, to get the scent."
"Just how much of what you think you know is what he told you?" She scoffs at him.
"If there's another one tonight, it's gonna be your fault. It'll be your fault."
"Roman, what can be done with few assumptions is done in vain with more. This is not your friend. This is not a person. I know that's hard for you to accept. I believe it is for him too. I believe that you came here to find the monster. So did he. Because he can't know that about himself. You can't know that about yourself and continue being a person."
"That's bullshit. That's just bullshit."
"This is an animal. That is what this is. Again, do not attempt eye contact." Chasseur continues her threats as she holds her gun up high.
"Can't you see I'm trying to help? Why won't you let me help?" He practically begs.
"Because you don't believe in God. Please go to your car and leave of your own volition. I'm gonna be really pissed off if you make me shoot you."
"I'm not afraid of you." Roman growls.
Celena's heart drops to her stomach when she sees Chasseur places her gun up and takes a knife to Peter's throat.
"You hurt him and I'll kill you! I swear to God. OK, just don't hurt him. Just don't hurt him." Roman begs and steps away.
"Get the hell out of here. Get the hell out of here!" Chasseur shouts.
"I'll fucking find you!" Roman warns as he walks away with frustrated tears.
"God doesn't want you to be happy, Roman. He wants you to be strong." Chasseur sighs as she watches Roman finally walk away.
Roman rushes back to his car and looks around for Celena. His heart felt like lead. He gasps in heavy breaths.
"Celena? Celena?! Celena, where are you?!" He calls for her frantically. Worried that the Vargulf had her.
Celena wanted to call out, but Olivia grips her arm tightly.
"You owe me, girl. I let you stay in my house and be with Roman. But you owe me. You want revenge? Then, do as I say." Olivia grits her teeth softly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shelley couldn't sleep that night, her and Viktor stayed up and watched an old black and white film. Earlier she wrote in her diary, frustrated that Roman had to leave her again. She was happy that Viktor was here for her, but she needed more security.
"I am flooded with feelings that I can't share, so I write. Not to Uncle Norman, not this time, because he would not understand. I write because I'm terrified. I almost lost Roman once, and now he's risking himself again. I want to reach inside him and tear this miserable obsession from his heart. But there's nothing I can do any more than I can stop the night from falling. And worse, as much as I fear for my brother's safety, even more I dread my mother's response."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that Peter was in her hands, Chasseur calls the Bishop to inform the Order that she had their prey. She didn't have to wait long; the Bishop was waiting for her call.
Celena peeks in the shadows as she listens to every single word being said.
"Talk to me, little mouse."
"Rumancek has been contained." Chasseur sighs out.
"Outstanding. Shall we expect to see you shortly?"
"Yes."
"Clementine, bring the animal to us. Do not purge the beast. Do you understand?" The Bishop warns.
"Of course, sir." "Just one last job and I'll be free from the Order. I'll meet with Michael and I'll be free. No more killing."
Celena gasps. Rage begins to fill her core.
"I trust you, little mouse."
"He's in sleepy town. Make a bed." Chasseur sighs as she cuts the call and turns to Peter, stroking his fur, "Don't worry, baby, I can save one of us." She takes out a large hunting knife and holds it up as she prays, "Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolation and succor of heaven in all my tribulations, necessities..." She takes the knife and presses it against Peter's throat. "...and sufferings."
"I wouldn't do that."
Chasseur jumps at the voice and turns to see Olivia stepping out of the shadows.
"I see you don't like your privacy invaded either. Ironic, though, in fairness, you are trespassing, and in the process of doing so, dared to threaten the life of my son. Where I come from, it's rather frowned upon to hunt on the grounds of one's betters." Olivia states with a glare.
Chasseur puts away the knife but draws her gun and aims it at Olivia.
"Mrs. Godfrey, I'm giving you one opportunity to turn around. If you take a step towards me, I will kill you." She threatens.
Olivia scoffs, "I don't believe it's me you should worry about, dear." She smirks and looks over Chasseur's shoulder.
At the same time, Chasseur begins to sense someone behind her and hears footsteps crunching against the pebbles. She quickly turns and fires a shot.
Loud rumbling is made and Celena holds her hand up to slow down the bullet till it stops right in front of her hand. Chasseur gasps at the sight as Olivia watches in amazement. Celena takes the bullet out of the air and holds it up.
"I think this is yours." She throws it quickly with the combination her powers. It goes off like a gunshot and hits Chasseur in the leg.
Chasseur screams in pain and falls to the ground, the gun rolling out of her hand next to her.
Celena walks closer to stand right before her.
Chasseur groans and pants, trying to push away the pain as she clutches on to the wound. Blood pours out between the webbings of her hands. She looks up at Celena. Confused, she never expected for her to be...something. A freak? A monster? What was she?
"I warned you. You haven't seen anything yet. Peter is NOT the monster you claim him to be. He's a protector. And he's still inside. The human side of him is still there. You're stubborn. You're too fucking stubborn to listen." Celena frowns as she begins to hear the whispering of Chasseur's mind. "It's how you were trained." She frowns. "They trained you to kill. To see...people like Peter...like Roman...as monsters. The Bishop..."
Chasseur's eyes widen and she begins to feel a stabbing pain in her head. She groans and grips her head.
"You can't block me out, Chasseur! I'm already inside. Who do you work for? Tell me!" Celena shouts.
"AAH!" Chasseur screams in pain as Celena stabs through her mind.
Celena shudders as flashbacks of Chasseur's past rushes through her.
"I can't have my baby here." Flashes of a young Mexican teen rushes in her head. She was pregnant. Suddenly, she transforms into a werewolf, but before she could fully form, Chasseur manages to cut off her head.
"We always have had time for each other."
"God does not want us to be happy. He wants us to be strong." The teen werewolf tells her.
"Welcome to the Order of the Dragon, Dr. Chasseur. Quam Misericors est Deus, Pius et Justus. O Quam Misericors est Deus, Pius et Justus."
"When the moon is full, do you walk in the skin of a wolf?"
"We and the barons and magnates of our kingdom shall bear and have and do choose and agree to bear and wear the sign or effigy of the dragon incurved into this form of a circle its tail winding around its neck divided through the middle of its back with blood forming a red cross. But it remains untouched by that blood, just as all of those who fight under the banner of the glorious martyr St. George remain untouched by the beast. The beast is the devil appearing on Earth as a radiant heavenly being, claiming to be God." Clementine's voice echoes all around.
"But you shall root him out. Let Him serve as your guide and from this day forward let it be the only one you bear. May you strike down God's enemies and smite them from the Earth in his name."
Celena pants in rage as angry tears trail down her cheeks. She grits her teeth, "You fucking bitch!" With a movement of her hand, she lifts her arm into the air and at the same time Chasseur's body floats. Chasseur chokes and gags as she grips on to her neck. Dangling her feet in the air.
"She did nothing and you killed her...and her unborn child! God does not tell us to murder! You murdered an innocent person just because what she was?!" Celena squeezes her fist and Chasseur begins to scream in pain, the sounds of bones crunching is made.
Olivia smirks as she studies the sight before her, "My, my, such strength." She walks up to a furious Celena and places a hand on her shoulder, "There, there, dear. Let her go. Peter needs you. And you should go find Roman. Protect him for me. You can play later."
Celena snaps her eyes to Peter, she needed him. She needed Roman. With a sob, she lets Chasseur go, letting her fall to the ground with a thud. Chasseur grunts and groans. Celena rushes to Peter and strokes his face.
"I'm here, baby. I'm here." She cries, she gasps as blood begins to run heavily from her nose. She grunts and catches it with her sleeve.
Olivia walks over to Chasseur and smirks down at her, "The cross you wear...It's not of your order. St. Jude."
"St. Jude." Celena hears the echo of the teenager she killed in that jailcell. Seeing the girl clutch on to her necklace as she pray for freedom.
Celena turns to glare at Chasseur, "It was the pregnant werewolf's."
Olivia scoffs, "Typical. You had the heart to kill her, but your mind tells you otherwise. Little mouse. Aw, little mouse. It makes you feel so lost."
Chasseur quickly makes a move for her gun and begins to shoot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before Celena knew it, she finds herself in the back of a Godfrey Institute van with Peter, still in his wolf form, resting his head on her lap as she leans on the metal wall of the van. She didn't want to talk, she didn't want to function. She just wanted...this all to stop. Blood coated her skin, most of hers from the heavy flow of her nosebleed. Her blood practically covered her mouth, neck and chest, staining her close but more of Chasseur's stains her face. After Chasseur shot Olivia...god, Celena never have seen...a creature react like that. She took the bullet with no problem...then attacked Chasseur like a rabid animal. After the incident, Olivia called Dr. Pryce for a 'clean-up'.
Pryce sat in the passenger's seat as looks over his shoulder, seeing a defeated looking Celena as she clutches on to Peter's fur as if her life depended on it.
"Don't worry. He'll be fine once he wakes up. He just needs to burn the drugs out of his system." Dr. Pryce assures her.
Celena slowly turns and just stares at him with empty eyes. Pryce sighs in sympathy and turns back to watch the road.
Celena frowns when the van begins to slow down and looks out the window. Seeing police cars and ambulances swarm around a house. She could see it was Sherriff Sworn's house and they were removing bodies from the house.
"Oh, dear. The Sworn daughters. This is not going to be good for Peter." Pryce states.
Celena slides back down and sighs deeply, covering her face with one hand. She couldn't believe it. Sure they were bitches, but they didn't deserve something like that.
"Sheriff...Sheriff, we, uh, we gotta know what happened. Honey...honey...Whoa, whoa, whoa! Easy."
Celena could hear the Sherriff crying for his daughters and his deputies trying to comfort him, but it was useless. How can you comfort anyone after something like that?
Celena jumps when her cellphone goes off, she sighs when she sees it was Roman.
She answers the phone and before she could talk, Roman's furious voice speaks, "Celena, where the fuck are you? I've been calling for the past hour. I thought the Vargulf grabbed you. What happened? Where are you?"
Celena sighs and sniffles as tears begin to fall, "I'm ok, Rome. I got Peter. He's safe."
"You got him? He's ok? How? What happened?" Roman asks frantically.
"Meet me at your place. Ok? Just meet me and I'll tell you everything." Her voice breaks.
"Cell, what's wrong?"
Celena rubs her head and clutches the side and cries, "He got more victims. The Sworn Sisters." She sobs. "I'm tired of this. I'm tired of people dying."
"Oh, god. Oh, shit. SHIT!" Celena could hear something thud loudly. Assuming Roman kicked something. Finally, he sighs, "Ok, I'll meet you at home. I promise I'm not going to let anything happen to you. OK?"
Celena nods, "Ok." She cuts the call and puts her phone away and sobs more. She continues to stoke Peter's head.
"I love you." She sniffles. "I love you both so much." Tears continue to fall as she sobs. She leans down and buries her face into his fur.
Pryce sighs softly as he listens. Olivia had him do research about Celena and Peter. Why, mainly, they share dreams? They share something...he could tell. A connection of some sort. But he wasn't sure what kind. From his studies, he found most stuff you can find in fiction novels, but what if...some stories weren't fiction? She carries a power that draws Roman and Peter to her. She has a hold on them. But what else does she draw out? He needed to know more.
