Chapter 14: Searching for Clues
Celena's outfit^^^^^^
After the banquet, Roman kept his word and treated Celena to the best Italian restaurant in Hemlock Grove. Which doesn't say much with this town. But, the food was good at least and Celena had a great time with Roman.
As the night was ending, Roman made sure she got home safe and sound. But, on his way home, all he could think about was their almost kiss. He brushes his thumb over his bottom lip, thinking how soft her lips felt. The feeling it gave him. He held so much need for her. He craved for her. Never he has ever craved for a woman like her. His heart was beating for her. And it hurt him. Seeing her with the gypsy, with Peter, it was starting to anger him and becoming irritating. He wanted her alone. The need for her was becoming stronger every day. The way her touch drove away his demons, that says something about her. He couldn't put his finger on it. Maybe she's right, maybe it's the connection. The dream is telling them something, but what?
After a few days of research and looking through GPS, Celena managed to find Lisa Willoughby's address. Soon, it wasn't long till they drove by the 'Welcome to Penrose, Pennsylvania' sign.
"What if Destiny was wrong? What if the invitation was in Willoughby's car? Or her purse?"
Roman was expressing his doubt as the three of them sat parked across the street from the Willoughby's house
That night at the banquet, when Roman and Celena went out on that date. Well, usually, a date ended with Roman getting his rocks off. But, he guesses it was a date either way. On that night, Celena explained to him how they should check out Lisa's house for that invitation. It seemed like a good idea...at that time.
"What if the moon hits your eye?" Peter laughs.
Celena shifts in her uncomfortable position. Since the SUV and truck we're occupied, Roman was driving his two seat jaguar. She had to share her seat with the gear shifter. She swears, every time Roman moved to switch gears, he would 'accidentally' brush the inside of her thigh and send her a tiny smirk when she jumped.
Of course, Peter was watching the whole thing. Which is why her new seat was now his lap.
"What if it was an e-vite?" Roman continues to express his doubt.
Peter found amusement with Roman's whining and impatience. He simply chuckles and gives him a smirk, "Then the Order of the Dragon will have to find a new adventure."
Roman glares at him; hating how he was treating him and the situation, "Suck a bag of dicks! I never called us the Order of the Dragon." He scoffs.
Peter scoffs, "Yup." He laughs.
Celena could see Peter rolling his eyes in his mind. She looks over to him and he doesn't try to hide a smile; knowing she was in his mind.
"Now, boys, play nice. Remember why we're here." She counts the situations they were dealing with altogether with her fingers, "Killer werewolf on the loose. Lynch mob ready to declare citizen's arrest on Peter's ass and, not to mention, a god-fearing woman on a hell-bent mission to look for the vargulf and, possibly, suspect Peter and wants to put him in a cage. And making it too risky for me, Matt and Viktor to use. We need to find a way to get inside and look for something that could tell us anything about who could it be. How can we get in? Any ideas?" Celena asks, looking at them both.
"I guess we wait till they leave. No matter how long it takes." Peter sighs.
Roman frowns as he watches an old man walking down the street. Carrying a bitter look as he bangs his walker against the concrete. Muttering to himself as he brushes past the Willoughby's house.
"What's with this guy?" He scoffs as he nibbles on peanuts, sharing them with Celena and Peter.
Peter frowns as he watches the old man with Roman. He shrugs, not sure why Roman was asking about a random old guy.
"I don't know. He's just old."
Roman's face scrunches in disgust, "Gross."
"You know, that'll be you in 70 years." Celena remarks, earning a glare and a shudder.
"Ugh, not if I can help it." Roman mutters.
Peter frowns as he wonders randomly, "How old's your mom, anyway?"
Roman frowns at Peter, "Why don't you ask her that?" He asks, sarcastically.
Celena rolls her eyes, the testosterone was getting heavy, even with the free air. She sighs and runs her fingers through her hair. "She'll kill you anyway. Don't you two know it's rude and offensive to ask a woman her age?" She scoffs.
A snort and a scoff were made by both men, Celena couldn't tell which came from who. Probably, both.
Roman was becoming impatient, "What if they don't leave?"
"What if we stop beginning sentences with those two words? Hmm?" Peter asks sarcastically.
Celena sighs dramatically as the two of them start again. She falls back against the seats, buzzing her lips.
Roman was anxious to get down to the bottom of everything. He wanted to prove himself so much to everyone that he was more than a rich, fuckboy with a silver spoon in his mouth. He felt it deep in his soul that this was the only way he could prove to everyone how heroic he can be. How brave. Like a warrior.
Flinging the nuts out of his mouth, he storms out of his car, "Fuck Penrose." He mutters and marches up towards the Willoughby House.
"Hey!" Peter shouts and sits up fast.
Celena and Peter both scramble to get out of the car and paces to follow Roman as he walks up to the door.
"We were gonna wait till they left." Celena whispers and looks around to make sure no one was watching, but it was hard to tell since this was a very neighborly street.
"Roman!" Peter whispers angrily as he follows Roman to the door. "Asshole." He growls lowly at him and jumps in caution when Roman knocks on the door. "What the fuck?" He glares at Roman in anger, but Roman ignores them both.
Footsteps approached the door and Celena could hear a sad, middle aged man's mind. His voice echoed in hers. He mostly talked about his daughter and someone named Gary.
"Can I help you?" A tall middle aged man with tinted glasses answered the door. His eyes carried sadness and grief, but he puts on a brave face for his visitors.
Peter turns, knowing what Roman was planning to do, but, to be safe, he didn't want to be recognized by Mr. Willoughby if the cops come and ask questions.
Celena stands next to Roman, giving Mr. Willoughby a sympathetic look, "Mr. Willoughby. Um, I'm sorry to disturb you, but if we could speak to you....we need to ask a few questions."
"We're here about Lisa." Roman says bluntly.
The sound of his daughter's name brought so much discomfort and Celena could see the sadness growing dark behind the man's eyes. He was shutting himself down, "This isn't a good time." Mr. Willoughby shakes his head and tries to dismiss them, but Roman steps forth, capturing his gaze.
"Mr. Willoughby." Roman uses his stare to draw in Mr. Willoughby. Watching him fall into his eyes. "You're exhausted. You should really take a nap." Roman says.
Soon, Mr. Willoughby sways and slowly sits on the steps behind him, then lies completely down. He was out cold.
Roman pushes the door wider and lets Peter and Celena in.
"In case you were wondering, cops call this shit breaking and entering." Peter mutters bitterly.
"Was it ever gonna be anything else?" Roman scoffs.
Celena kneels next to Mr. Willoughby and places her hand over his forehead. Peter and Roman watch as they hear soft rumbling.
"What are you doing?" Roman asks and soon, the rumbling stops.
Celena stands up, "You want him to remember our faces and tell the cops on us? I erased his memory. When he wakes up, he'll think he fainted." She wipes the coming blood from her nose and walks with them up the stairs. It's not heavy lifting, but erasing one's memory is still hard work for her.
"Good idea." Peter nods and, together, the three of them make their way through the house to search for any clues. Peter turns to Roman, "And by the way, I'm just saying that there's the right way and then there's the foolish way. Don't ever do it that way again." He says with a snarl.
Roman rolls his eyes and grabs a handkerchief as he feels his nose begin to bleed, "You're a fucked way." He mocks.
"Roman, I have to admit, that was pretty stupid. I know you want to know as badly as we do, but come on. We gotta be careful." Celena says as she gives his jacket a gentle tug.
Roman sighs and nods, he hated the power she had over him sometimes. He can never resist her.
Peter couldn't help, but be curious as they roamed through the house. The scent of Roman's blood was confusing his wolf as he searched for Lisa's room.
"Does that hurt?" Peter asks.
Roman scoffs with a smirk, "You wouldn't notice if a bus hit you." He says, brining back Peter's past statement and winks.
"All right, let's just do this and get out of here." Celena says nervously. "At least, before Mr. Willoughby wakes up and before his other family members show up." She begs as she heads up the stairs.
Peter and Roman follow her. Peter could pick up the faint scent of Lisa in the house. It's been weeks since the funeral, but the smell of her was still here. He follows the scent towards a room, while Roman and Celena peeks through doors as they reached the top of the stairs.
"In here." Peter says as he walks into Lisa's bedroom. Her scent was strong still. It looks like her parents never touched anything since her death. As if they wanted to preserve her memory.
Roman went through her dresser, while Peter looked through her nightstands. Celena walked into the closet, searching through the storage boxes she had. Shoe boxes full of teenage treasures and secrets.
"Find anything?" Roman asks.
"Not yet. You?" Peter shakes his head and asks.
Celena opens a box and groans in disgust, "Not what we're looking for." She scrunches her face up at the look of a sex toy in the box. She sighs and packs it back up where it was and shudders as she wipes her hands over her pants.
"Ohhh." Roman exclaims in interest and pulls out a pair of pink panties with a white fuzzy tail attached to it. Peter looks over to what he was excited about and scoffs. Roman runs his fingers over the slit. "Hippity-hop."
"Nice." Peter says sarcastically.
Roman holds them up for Celena to see, "Hey, Cell, wanna try these on?"
"Bite me." She flips him off.
Roman giggles like a schoolboy and brings the panties to his nose. Celena watches in disbelief as Roman sniffs the underwear and begins to stuff it in his pocket.
Celena marches over to him and snatches it out of his pocket, "Seriously, you fucking pervert?" She whispers furiously and smacks him with the panties before stuffing them back into the drawers.
Roman laughs as he protects himself from the smacks, "Just handling evidence. Might come in handy." He smirks as he imagines Celena wearing nothing but, those panties.
Celena catches that image and turns towards him, "Roman, stop thinking with your dick!" She scoffs and turns to look around.
Peter snorts as he continues to look through Lisa's stuff. Finding old drawings. Mostly scribbled self-portraits of Lisa naked and a Boston terrier.
"Cool. Roman Godfrey in my house." A girl's voice startles them and they turn to see a younger girl, with long brown hair. Almost like a younger version of Lisa.
Peter clears his throat.
"Um...We're looking for some mail that might have come for Lisa." Celena stutters.
The girl crosses her arms, carrying an amusing smile at the three of them, "Why?"
"We think someone might have killed her." Roman says bluntly, which made Peter flinch in irritation.
"Oh. Someone like you." The girl scoffs.
"Touché." Roman says with a smirk.
"Shut the fuck up--" Peter mutters, but the girl cuts him off.
"Are you the ones that dug up my sister?" She asks, but when neither of them answers, she waves it off, "I don't care. Like that's so much worse than what already happens to you when you die?" She scoffs as the smile becomes bitter.
Peter and Celena watches her with caution as she walks over to the dresser where Roman was and shuts the drawers. Soon, she eyes some pictures one cork board that was hanging on the wall.
"Mom's taking Gary to be put down."
"What?" Peter frowns.
The girl points at a picture of a younger Lisa, smiling with a dog, a Boston terrier and holding up a blue ribbon, "Gary. Mom can't handle having a dog around. And Dad, he can't handle the thought of having the dog Lisa loved so much being with new owners." She scoffs, "Seems like a bit much for a Boston terrier, don't you think?"
"It does." Celena nods, finding this family really fucked up.
"You guys didn't look over here." She walks over to another dresser and picks up a black envelope and holds it up, "Is this what you're looking for? I found it in Lisa's sock drawer when I was looking for leggings. I thought it was an invitation to a rave, so I begged her to take me, but she wouldn't." The bitter smile grows, "So I looked at her, so fucking pretty, and I said that I hope she ends up in a dumpster." She says with a small sneer.
"OK." Roman says, more interested in what was in her hand.
She hands it to Roman, "I already showed it to my parents. They just got pissed. They'd rather believe she was killed by an animal. It's easier, I guess." She shrugs.
Roman opens the envelope and pulls out a invitation that says in loud, gold writing, Party of Mythic Proportion and at the bottom it says, But, shh...invitation only. Roman flips it over and it in large letters: When, Where it read The Night of the Full Moon and at Castle Godfrey...and do not tell another living soul...FUN, FUN, FUN.
"Fun, fun, fun." Celena mutters as the memories of Destiny repeating those words popped in her mind.
"What the hell is Castle Godfrey?" Peter frowns.
"The mill. That's what people call the old steel mill." Roman packs the envelope and invite into his pockets. "All right, thanks. This is this is very helpful."
"We should go." Celena points at the door.
"Yeah, mm-hmm." Peter nods and starts to walk out with Celena, but the girl stops them.
"Why do you care who did this? Why are you looking for him?"
"'Cause when we find him, he's going to be joining Gary." Roman smirks and winks at the girl before leaving.
Peter looks at Celena and rolls his eyes, muttering in Romani in his head.
"English, please." She scoffs as she mutters and turns to the girl. "Thanks for your help and I'm sorry I have to do this." She places her hand over the girls head before she could ask and falls to the floor with a loud thud.
Roman and Peter both jump at the sound and look at her, speechless.
"Sorry. Again, gotta be cautious." She says as she walks out of the room.
Peter scoffs and follows Celena with Roman in toll.
Soon, together, the three of them stopped to get something to eat and sat on Roman's car as they feasted on burritos. Celena sips on her soda and sighs.
"I need to know if you're taking this as seriously as I am." Roman asks, unsure with Peter's vibe about the situation. "My name is on this. This thing put my name on this." Roman frowns.
"Your family's name." Peter points out.
"You know I'm serious with this. This thing is causing too much heat on us." Celena says as she bites on her burrito.
"I know you're on my side, Cell. But, Peter, this matters to me as much as it matters to you. But if you end up in jail, you better reconsider that hair. I'm just saying." He
"I'll just point 'em towards your lips." Peter chuckles with a smirk.
"Oh." Roman laughs mockingly and sighs.
"I don't want to think about the possibility of jail time. For any of us." Celena says with fear in her eyes.
Roman rubs her back, "Sorry, Cell."
"Don't worry. Neither of us are gonna end up anywhere than here." Peter says as he pulls her close to kiss her forehead.
Roman watches bitterly, but shakes it off, "Do you believe everything happens for a reason?" He randomly asks.
Peter scoffs, "Man, I try not to fuckin' think about it."
Suddenly, his cellphone goes off and he looks to see that he received a message from Matt.
"Letha found something. Meet us at the ice cream parlor."
"What's up?" Roman asks, curiously.
"Oh, Lynda. She needs some help back at home. Water heater or some shit." Peter brushes it off and continues to feast on his food.
"That was Matt. Letha found something that might help us. We'll meet them at the Ice Cream Parlor soon." Peter says in his head.
"Roman deserves to know as well." Celena replies.
"He will. Once we know what Letha has. We can't let him go halfcocked at every source that comes to us. You saw how he handled at Willoughby's." Peter clears his throat.
"We'll reconvene? Go to the mill later?" He asks.
Roman had a curious look, as if his gut was telling him that Peter was hiding something. "What, is that a problem?" Peter asks, frowning in confusion with Roman's look.
Roman shrugs, "Man's gotta do." He says.
Celena claps her hands and gets up off the car, "So...we have been working so hard."
"I think we deserve some rewards before the Mill. Like liquid courage." She turns her heels on them with a big smile. "Anybody want a beer?"
"And chasers?" Celena's smile grows.
Roman and Peter look at Celena and laugh. She was too fucking cute. For both of them. Peter chuckles and shakes his head. God, he loved her. Roman laughs and snorts. God, she was so perfect. Just for him. Celena caught both of their thoughts in their minds and blushes. It was so confusing being with them, and yet, so right.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, Viktor was working on finding some information for school. Projects and research papers were piling on him, but nothing he can't handle. He searches through the books and spots a few. He looks over as he could hear a woman reading a story to a group of kids. He smiles as they were in deep thought with the nursery rhyme.
"One for sorrow, two for joy, three for girl, four for boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be...told." Viktor frowns when the woman's voice falters. He looks up and sees Shelley walking towards the kids.
A mother with a stroller looks up in shock at her while the librarian frowns at her presence. Soon, the children turns to see Shelley as she pushes her hair back. They all screamed and ran towards the librarian in fright, crying as they curl up into fetal positions against her. One stood frozen in fear and peed on himself.
"It's OK, it's OK. It's OK. She's very...It's all right, she's very nice." The librarian tries to assure them, but they still trembled in fear at the sight of Shelley.
The child in the stroller giggled and pulled on Shelley's jacket. Shelley just smiles and waves at him, while the mother of the child pulls the stroller away and rushes to the other side of the library.
Olivia frowns as she watches the sight and paces over to Shelley with a comforting grip of her arm to lead her to the other side of the library.
"Shelley, darling, come on." Olivia says, and turns to the children with a disgusted look and shoos at them, "Psst!" She leads her towards some books.
"It's OK." The librarian finally manages to calm the children down, but Viktor was frowning.
It enraged him inside with how the children reacted to her. He shakes his head in shame and moves to put his books away.
"Remember, Shelley, the cruelty of children is easily ignored." Olivia says softly to her daughter and Viktor was close enough to catch that.
While Shelley was looking through the books her mother gave her, she was bothering the librarian assistant for help on gypsy myths and studies.
The assistant smiles and hands Olivia a book, "I finally tracked it down at UT...only college in the world with a library of Romany studies. Guess it's racist to call them gypsies. What isn't these days?"
Olivia flips through the book, not interested in what the mere human was speaking of to her with the pitiful conversation, if she dared called it that. "Mm." Olivia only made a small noise, not agreeing or are.
The librarian lifts her brows in curiosity, "Find what you're looking for?"
Olivia frowns and scoffs as she eyes the woman, "Rarely." She shuts the book and hands it to her, "Well, thank you for...your efforts." She gives the woman a bitter smile and turns to look for more books.
Viktor sneaks over to Shelley and places his finger over his lips when she jumps.
"Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you were done with your paper." He asks softly.
Shelley smiles and types in her phone, "Mother needed to come here. For some sort of research. For some odd reason, she's curious about gypsies."
Viktor frowns, curious with what Olivia is looking for.
"Also, I saw her looking through old newspapers. Specifically, ones with articles about unexplained disasters. She couldn't know...could she?" Shelley adds, with a worried look.
Viktor shakes his head, "We're so careful. I doubt it. But, that day of the accident...the Hummer... just be safe and keep an eye out on your mom."
Olivia scanned through several books and finds one with myths. She skims through one article and finds an old one about a man with unlimited strength, yet to her eyes, the human looked so puny. But, when the man picked up a car, he left dents in the bumper sized as his own fingers. Olivia takes out her cellphone and looks through the pictures of the accident and finds one of the spare tire rack. Dents in the shape of large fingerprints. Male. She eyes the picture in curiously and wonder, then looks up and sees the carpenter chatting with her daughter. She smirks to herself as theories popped in her mind. Maybe the gypsy wasn't the only creature in this town.
~Yup I'm back! So so so so so sorry I have taken so long to update. It's been hectic over the past few months. I'm back in college! Trying to earn my degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. This is nothing like Technical College, this is the real deal! My schedule is so tight, I barely have any me time. And this is just for three classes! Everything is so jammed together, I'm lucky to breathe. Even with everything being online, it's so overwhelming. Anyway, I hope and pray everyone is being safe out there.
