Chapter 6 Lost and Found

Another day. Another dead end.

You sighed walking into the pizzaplex early in the morning, your eyes burned from the lack of sleep. You should have gone to bed at a reasonable time, but your discoveries yesterday were too big just to sleep on. (Your body was sore, aching from resting against a desk all night.)

You had a lot on your mind as you pushed the pizzaplex's doors opened. (When the building wasn't ready for opening, the sliding doors were turned off but not locked. Meaning every morning you had to shove them open in order to enter.)

You had to find that rabbit. Where ever she was. But where to even begin? There was so much ground to cover here at the pizzaplex if she's lingering around here it would be impossible to find on your own.

If she's lingering around trying to find children, maybe someone else has seen her?

You sighed at the thought starting your walk to the locker room. You'd have to ask around but you doubt anyone at work would want to talk about a mysterious rabbit that's lingering about.

Well, except maybe a guard. But you need an excuse to bring it up. It has to flow naturally and not like you're purposely looking into something.

You brushed past a few staff bots on your way, only to stop noticing Vanessa was still here. She seemed tired, walking down the hall like she was a zombie. Arms hanging, body almost limp as she took her steps.

"Vanessa?" You called out to her cautiously walking closer. Her eyes slowly pulled themselves from looking down at the floor, she didn't smile but she did straighten up.

"What?" She bit back a yawn sweeping her bangs out of her face. You didn't want to sound rude but she looked god awful. Has she gotten any sleep lately? (Oh no is that what you looked like to Freddy? Wait don't think that, Vanessa is the one that needs your attention right now.)

"Are you okay?" You frowned looking over her.
"You look like you had quite a night last night."

Maybe some humor would lighten things up. You laughed lightly but she didn't share your enthusiasm. She just rubbed her eyes now sighing.

"Yeah just exhausted. Another night another problem." She tried to fix her uniform, but the way she stumbled a bit in the process told you she was more than just exhausted. Maybe she's getting sick. These long hours can be brutal.

"Maybe you should get some rest." You smiled, you sound like Freddy. (Would you stop mentioning him?)

"Yeah," Vanessa scoffed, "maybe. But I can't."

She tried her best to smile at you, though it seemed like she was having a hard time even forcing the grin on her face.

"I'll be fine though. Thanks for checking on me." She nodded at you before continuing her walk on. You turned to watch her leave dropping your smile. Somethings up with her, but what?

It's not any of your business, but you're worried about her. She is a friend. You've never seen her like that. She's always some level of tired but this was different. She looked like she had just come from an awful fight.

You'll keep an eye on her. If she's still that way when she comes in for night shift when you leave you might say something. For now you had to get to work. Rushing towards the locker room you shoved your things where they belonged and clocked in.

Another day another dollar right?

You cringed at your own thought.

Today was a busy day, good god you're not sure you can keep up this pace! It was birthday party, after birthday party today but at least you could take a breather for a second.

Decorating for the parties always went one of two ways. They were either really nice down times and you could enjoy yourself. Or they were tedious and the parents were here 40 minutes earlier than they should be and complain for you to hurry up.

At least this was the good out of the two. You pushed tables together, making sure they were long enough for all the guests. You double checked the attendance before getting out the table clothes and party hats.

Everything was lined up neatly, carefully sprinkling confetti in the table you gazed at all the shapes. Lightening bolts and stars, triangles and circles all in varying colors.

The staff bots arrived a bit later than you'd of liked with the rest of the decorations, but you don't think you minded. Taking them with a thank you, you got to work tying balloons to the back of chairs and to the middle of the table. (Which was waiting for the cake, but that would be Freddy's job later.)

Carefully you walked around the parameter of where the party would be, roping it off so no one would accidentally ruin the birthday boys day. The security staff bot arrived shortly after awaiting the parents and guests that sound show up soon.

You took a deep breath standing back to examine your work. You have to admit this is probably one of your better decorated parties. You hummed satisfied, stepping out of the party zone just in time.

"Oh boy!" You heard a little boy gasp, rushing towards the security bot that stopped him from getting closer. His parents were behind him smiling brightly at his expression. He turned around quickly hands folded into fists shaking excitedly.
"Is this all for me?!"

His parents laughed nodding coming closer to show the staff bot their Fazwatch. (Which was a cheaper version of the one you wore. It didn't have nearly all the functions yours did, but it was touch screen and showed a map of the pizzaplex and their passes for the day. If they wanted to buy one like yours they'd have to pay $250 for it. There wasn't any perks of having the expensive one other than saying you had it.)

You lingered off to the side watching as the family entered first. The little boy spotted all the neatly wrapped presents on the table, eager to tear into them but held back waiting for his friends.

Sometimes it was nice to see families like this. You've been so consumed in your case and work that you barely had anytime to stop and see the hood in the world. It was hard to forget, but there was still good here. You smiled at the sight unable to help it, you were distracted now.

"E-excuse me?" A frail little voice snapped you out of your staring. Quickly you looked down feeling a tug at your pants to see a little girl standing before you. Her green eyes pierced your (E/C) ones. She looked like she was about to cry, one hand lifted to rub away any tears that threatened to spill.
"I-I lost my mommy."

You knelt down to meet her at her level, taking her hand gently off your pants to hold it in your hand now.

"Oh no," you spoke softly careful not to upset her, "I'll help you find her sweetie. Do you remember where you saw her last?"

You smiled reassuringly at her. She sniffled turning around to gaze into the sea of people before looking at you again. She seemed hesitant shaking her head.

"There-there's a lot of people. I-I remember Chica on a picture...and-and stuffed animals." She whimpered sounding distressed. You softly patted her hand before reaching inside your pocket pulling out a sticker.

"When I get scared I like to put a sticker on me." It was a lie but you only had stickers on you to give to kids. You hoped it would make her feel better.
"Would you like one of my stickers while we find your mom?"

The little girl eyed the paper in your hand curiously before she nodded, taking the sticker with shaky hands before she smiled.

"Can you tell me what your mom looks like hon?" You stayed knelt down talking softly to her as she peeled the sticker off its back to put on her cheek. She then started pulling at her dress swaying a bit from side to side.

"My mommy is pretty." She sounded more relaxed.
"She has pretty black hair, it's-it's short. And-and she's wearing a flower shirt. I like flowers."

The little girl continued to sway as she spoke and you just smiled at her lifting your wrist with the fazwatch on it typing out an alert.

"I like flowers too, I bet it's the prettiest shirt ever." You gasped with enthusiasm for the little one. Lowering your arm you smiled again at her.
"I've sent a message to my friends to keep an eye out for her okay?"

The little girl nodded playing with the trash leftover from the peeled off sticker. You offered to take it from her, shoving it in your pocket after she had taken it.

"Are you friends with freddy?" the little girl muttered quietly. You nodded.

"The best of friends." You hummed amused.
"He's going to keep an eye out for you too okay? I promise you we'll find her, together."

The little girl nodded again but beamed keeping close to you. The turned to look back out into the sea of people, then her eyes grew wide.

You followed her gaze to see Freddy walking down the hall. You knew he was coming to the party just behind you, but the moment the two of you met eyes he seemed to change his objective.

His handler shouted as Freddy started walking towards the two of you, a smile on his face.

"Freddy wait! Come back!" His handler shouted off to the side, but nothing would stop Freddy from approaching you and the little girl. You stood up off the ground now dusting off your pants. The little girl gasped at the sight her eyes wide seeing him now stopping before you two.

"Hello superstar!" Freddy beamed kneeling down himself to reach her level better. She hid her face a bit in her hair a smile wide on her face.

"H-hi." She squeaked.

"I heard from my good friend (Y/N) that you lost your mommy. We cannot have that now can we!" Freddy offered his hand to the little girl. She took it eagerly, her hand looked so much smaller in his than it was in yours.
"I believe I saw her not that long ago. I will take you to see her. Is that okay?"

Freddy was great with kids. It was rare for you to be able to see him this up close dealing with children. The sight made you a bit flushed. The little girl nodded hastily before she stopped Freddy from walking. She shouted a wait turning to look at you.

"I want you to come with me!" She held her hand out to you.
"You promised, together!"

You grinned. Oh wow little kids sometimes are so cute. You took her hand giving it a gently squeeze.

"You're right I did promise." You chuckled lightly.
"Let's find her together."

You looked up at Freddy as you echoed together finding his gaze already on you. He quickly looked away catching your gaze. His ears wiggled are the top of his head making you smile in confusion. What was that about?

Regardless the three of of you walked hand in hand. Freddy was leading the way, past the sea of people that tried to stop him. But he didn't listen intent on returning this girl to her family.

You admired the glamrocks for that. They were programmed to protect the kids, but seeing it was a sight. It was good to see them taking precautions. (Still that didn't stop that rabbit from coming in here. With that in mind you wondered what if she's not a guest but someone who works here? No they do background checks on that sort of thing. You'd have noticed odd behavior if that was the case.)

"Mommy!" The little girls excited cry snapped you out of your thought. Her hand tore free from yours and Freddy's as she rushed towards a pacing woman who was talking to another employee.

"Emily!" Her mother quickly turned around gasping with tears in her eyes.
"Oh sweetheart!"

The two enveloped holding each other tightly.

"Don't go running off like that again! I know Chica was there but you scared me!" Her mother refused to let go of her little one, but her eyes lifted to meet you and freddy.
"Thank you. Thank you so much."

You smiled dismissing her thanks. As long as they were together. You're glad that the little girl found you instead of the white rabbit. You waved goodbye to the little girl and her mother hearing the two discuss the sticker on her face as you left.

"It made me brave!" The little girl gasped and you almost wanted to laugh upon hearing that.

It was quite as you and Freddy walked. An unspoken rule that he had to follow you when you were around in place as you guided him back to the party.

"Are you feeling well?" Freddy's voice startled you, causing you to look up at him confused. He seemed to realize how out of no where that was.
"I mean, are you feeling better? Since last we talked?"

You looked away having to fight off a few customers who got too close to Freddy. You can't lie to him, but you can't tell the truth either.

"I'm okay." You finally settled on saying.

"Does it have something to do with me bringing you back to my room?" Freddy sounded concerned as he asked. You looked back at him sucky face red with embarrassment.

"What?" You laughed a little.

"Monty and I had a very good conversation yesterday. He said that maybe you are feeling the way that you are now might be because I led you back to my room." Freddy fiddled with his bow tie as the two of you walked. You couldn't help but laugh softly at him. It was nice to hear they had a good conversation but you don't think Freddy understood what monty was saying.

"No big guy it has nothing to do with that." You gently patting his arm reassuringly.
"It meant a lot to me that you cared so much the other night. I'm just probably over working myself like you thought."

Freddy nodded.

"Well I am glad to know that it is not my fault. Monty offered to speak with you but I felt as though this was something we needed to discuss together." Freddy readjusted just top hat now purposely avoiding your gaze. Was he embarrassed? He was acting a little odd now.

"I appreciate it freddy. Really. Now come on let's get you back to that party." You took charge leading the way now brushing off how strangely the bear was behaving.

He was quite the rest of the way, casting side glances at you every so often until at last the two of you had reached the party. At first the parents were mildly annoyed. They had been talking to Freddy's handler upon arrival and you took it upon yourself to apologize and explain what had happened that caused Freddy to go else where.

Luckily these parents were understanding and thanked you for the explanation. You left Freddy to it but as you left you noticed he was watching you. Eyes following every movement you made.

He looked like he had so much to say but not enough time. You couldn't stay for the party though, and left after sharing a strange sideway glance with him.

It was a bit troubling though. You've never seen him look like that. You hoped he was okay now, he may be an animatronic but he had feelings. He was human to you and you wanted to make sure he was going to be okay.

If his strange behavior continues you'll ask him if he's doing okay. For now though you had a job to do and unfortunately what ever was bothering Freddy would have to wait.
