Chapter 12 Midnight Thoughts

Your mind was foggy, it was hard to think. You knew you were moving, you knew you were working, but you couldn't see what you were doing. Your vision was blurred. Though did it matter? Every movement you made felt like second nature. (Somehow you didn't feel like yourself, and yet like yourself at the same time. What an odd sensation.)

You weren't alone in the room. No matter how hard you tried to ignore it, you knew someone else was in here with you. Eyes watching you carefully from across the room. An intense gaze that meant you didn't need to turn around to know someone was staring at you from behind. Watchful eyes, observing you,  watching you as you worked diligently at your desk.

It was enough to distract you. Now your attention was on whom ever was staring.

"What's wrong?" You turned to gaze behind you. Your vision was still blurry. It was hard to make out shapes and colors. You blinked a few times to regain your vision, now finding yourself staring down at the little girl who sat nearby on the floor.

She was surrounded by toys, but she only kept one close to her. Her brilliant brown eyes glistened in the light at your desk.

"I want you to play with me." She held her ragged doll up to you, lifting an arm up from the tattered doll.
"Please?"

You turned in your chair unable to help the smile that crossed your lips. You knew she wanted you to spend more time with her, but unfortunately time wasn't something you had. Still, she always brought a smile to your face. You moved slightly in your chair, leaning down to pat her head gently.

She was your world.

"I can't play with you right now." You hated to say that, but it was the truth. You sat back up now, turning away to face the desk. It was quite again. Aside from the noise of you packing up your tools. Careful to place them meticulously into their box. You knew she wanted an answer as to why you couldn't play with her right now.
"I've got to do a few more things for work."

"Really? But I want you to play with me." Your daughter whined, standing up as you did. Like clockwork. She held her doll close to her chest shaking her head.
"I really want to spend time with you!"

You sighed.

"I know sweetheart." Extending your free hand out towards her, the other reserved for your tool box, you offered her to take it. Smiling down at her pouting face.
"How about I take you to the restaurant and you can play with the other kids while I take care of a few things. Don't you have some nice friends there?"

She was thinking. Debating if she should even go with you to work today, until finally she nodded.

"Yeah." She sounded so disappointed. But then again you already knew she was, you wanted to spend more time with her too. But work was first, you had to fix a few things around the restaurant. If only you had more time.

If only you had known that would be the last time you'd see her. If only....

Your heart pounded against your ribs at the call. Everything that was once important for work was now nothing more than an after thought. It didn't matter. She did. It couldn't be true.

You had to find her.

You ran as fast as you could. The car left abandoned from the store you were at, racing to the pizzeria just down the street. You were gone for 10 minutes. Only 10 minutes.

It can't be true.

Rain poured from the sky. Almost like it was reflecting your dread. It blurred your vision making it hard to see, but you pushed through it. Through the rough pellets of water. They felt like knives in your skin as you fought your way towards the alley, just beside your restaurant.

No, no it's not true. It can't be.

"Charlie?!" You screamed. Her name fell from your lips hastily. Anxiously. You could almost see her damp brown hair sticking against the ground. You had to get closer. Though you were quickly stopped by an officer, an obstacle in your path. No no you had to see her.

You tried to peek past him, trying to catch a glimpse. Ignoring the red and blue lights of the nearby police cars, they were nothing more than unnecessary distractions.

There, just barely you caught a glimpse of your daughter. Torn to shreds, with bits of her skin flecked upon the pavement. Blood ran down soaking up into almost everything in its path. You couldn't see anymore than that, something large and black was covering her up. Shielding her from the rain.

No. No. No.

You pushed the officer trying to squeeze past him to reach your little girl. Continuing to scream her name. She can't be dead. She's alive she just can't hear you. She just can't hear her father calling out to her. You're supposed to protect her.

"Sir!- sir please get back!" The officer was shouting at you. But his words fell on deaf ears as you struggled to reach your little girl. She died alone. She died, alone.

"CHARLIE!"

BOOM!

You gasped sitting up quickly. Thunder crackled just beyond your window, a startling alarm to wake up as rain poured down outside. It took a moment to catch your breath. Tears burned at the edge of your eyes, threatening to spill as you sat alone in the darkness of your bedroom.

That dream.

You lifted your hand to brush away some tears.

It felt so real.

You swallowed thickly attempting to use a breathing exercise to calm your heart. It's been a few days since a little girl was found roaming around the pizzaplex after close. She claims to have seen a white rabbit, and Roxy had somehow been decommissioned once officers arrived on the scene.

Tension around the company had sky rocketed. Security was tighter during the day shifts, and there was rumor and talk that Vanessa would be getting more human help for the night shift.

It was hard to do any more prodding around for your case with everything going on right now. Even Vanessa had avoided returning to her therapy sessions until things calmed themselves down.

Truthfully you think this is why your dream tonight came to you. A little girl caught wandering around after hours in a Freddy Fazbear's anything was never a good thing with the company's past. She was lucky to be alive if those articles from the 80's were true. (Though you wonder if your interference in calling for the glamrocks had something to do with her being alive.)

Still, who was that girl in your dream?

You laid back slowly against your pillow staring up at the ceiling. The little girl who had been caught roaming around after hours, had blonde hair. The little girl in your dream had frizzy brown hair. Where was the connection? Aside from them being the same age?

You sighed, covering your eyes with your arm frowning. It felt so real. The joy at knowing she wanted to be around you, or who ever you were playing in the dream, the love you held for her. The heart shattering anxiety when the police called you, the agony knowing your daughter died alone in an alleyway.

If I couldn't save her in a dream, what makes me think I could save her now?

You wanted to laugh to yourself at the thought. Maybe this was also an echo of your case. The woman, who no one had a clear description of aside from her talents. The woman who disappears with out a single trace anywhere except vaguely in the mind of her coworkers.

What if she was dead? Torn to shreds like that little girl because of some maniac? And no one knew. You moved your arm away from your eyes squinting at the darkness. Was this case worth all the trouble?

Nightmares haunt you now, that shadow Bonnie thing always was there. Either apart of the dream, or watching from a distance. It got to a point you felt as though you saw him while at work. Not to mention monty and Roxy these days. They've been sent to parts and services, and they say nothings wrong with them, but there was something that was different.

Their bad attributes amplified more as time went on, as if something was inside their head telling them to be more violent. Monty barely had any time with the kids anymore, his violent out bursts deeming him unsafe to be around.

Roxy was just the same, just the other day at the raceway as she was hosting a birthday party, she nearly flipped a child's car over for being so competitive. She didn't care like she typically would. She laughed at the end at her victory and called the birthday kid a sore looser. (Obviously parents weren't happy.)

Those two were snipper towards everyone lately, seeming disinterested in anything anyone had to say. Even their own band mates.

Chica and Freddy were the same at least. No changes there. But was all this trouble to find this missing person worth it? Everything you're putting up with right now, was it worth it?

You turned to look at the window in your room, gazing at the darkness that resided just behind the glass. The sound of rain was soothing in a way.

"you think that you can actually have a relationship with her? You're not HUMAN! You can't love her! Not the way she needs it! You're PATHETIC! USELESS!" Your mind replayed the words monty had shouted at Freddy that night. The words that sent you into a slight spiral of confusion.

A relationship, with you? You just couldn't possibly wrap your head around it. Sure you liked Freddy but-

Buzz, Buzz.

Your phone vibrated on your nightstand instantly stilling your thoughts. Maybe it was best that way. Reaching over, you scrunched your eyes up at the bright light as it hit your eyes.

Just a dumb notification.

You tossed your phone back onto the stand, sitting up again. You can't sleep, not anymore.

Freddy.

You shook your head as his name entered your mind.

"The only thing I ask is that you take care of yourself superstar." You gasped in embarrassment as his words repeated inside your head.

Superstar.

You shook your head covering your face. Why won't you just forget about that dumb nickname?! Running your hands down dragging them along your skin you stared at your wall pressing your lips together.

It's hard to forget that nickname when that's all he calls you anymore. His superstar. Normally it had no affect. He said it to all the children. But you were the only adult he called a superstar. Somehow it felt significant. Like he was trying to tell you something with out ever saying the actual word.

But that's impossible. He's-he's a robot. You're human. (Not to mention a robot bear. How could you be attracted to a robot bear?) you wanted to scream at yourself for your thoughts and behaviors.

It's hard to even talk to him now on top of everything.

"You don't look well today (Y/N). You are resting, correct?" He said that to you just a day ago, leaning real close. Allowing his nails to drag along your jaw. Smiling at the way you froze in place.
"Remember to take care of yourself, I do not want my superstar to go back on her word."

He was teasing. Joking. He's always been like that. But the way he said this-it made you think- why did he say it like that?

Look at you, thinking about him when there's a million other things to think about. A million other things to worry about. The rain continued to pound against your window as you walked towards your desk, mindlessly hoping to find some sort of clue to lead you to your missing person.

"I'm fine! Thanks for worrying Henry! Whoops! I mean (Y/N)!" Vanessa's off behavior rang in your head as well. Her words wispy like she said it to you in a dream. This was getting too weird. Too strange. You've seen a lot, but to believe in ghosts? It felt like something from a movie.

This can't be real. Maybe it's all a big hallucination. Maybe it's a social experiment, see how long you'll last with your mind warping to some sort of machine trying to mess with your senses.

It is real.

There it was again. Shadow Bonnie. Softly encouraging you from the corner of darkness in your room. A figure seen now that you're awake more than when you slept. It didn't feel real. This felt like a never ending nightmare lately.

Are you even working on a case anymore? Are you lost in your own madness? Is this what insanity really is?

Be brave.

The shadow Bonnie flickered from the corner.

Scary...very scary. But you brave! Help us. Save them.

The Bonnie smiled at you, his jaw dangling from the loose henges as he leaned forward. Somehow it was comforting. Somehow you believed him.

Who exactly am I saving at this point?

You wanted to ask but kept it to your self brushing your fingers against the papers that littered your desk. A habit that happens even in your dreams. Your eyes glanced over the children drawings gazing at the mysterious white rabbit.

Maybe I'm more accurately like Alice in wonderland.

The joke was for comfort. But it felt hallow.

Tonight...Chica is next...

You sharply looked at the shadow Bonnie surprised. What did he mean Chica was next?

Tomorrow, she will be different. Beware!

How will she be different? What did he mean she's next? Was she going to act like Roxy and Monty? But there was nothing bad about Chica! All except, her hunger.

That's right they had to recall some kind of monty drink mix or something because she was obsessive over eating it.

You frowned at the thought.

"Who is doing this? Why can't you give me more hints? What is going on?! I-" you found your hands balling into fists. You hated not having the answers. Is Freddy after Chica? What would be bad about Freddy?

I-I can't let him fall to that too I-

You shook your head. Your mind was a mess. Surely this was all still a nightmare and you were still fast asleep on your bed. The girl in your dream that was your daughter wasn't real, and this certainly can't be real either. It just can't be.

Find game. Answer in game.

There he went again. Urging you to search for some kind of game. What game?!

"What am I missing?!" You shouted slumping to sit at your desk staring at the mess that littered it.
"What am I missing?"

You felt so defeated. Unable to do much now with the security measures. If you wanted to find the truth, to find your missing woman. To save them, who ever they were, to save those kids from the rabbit that wandered the halls. You'd have to do the unthinkable. Something you didn't want to do unless absolutely necessary.

You're going to have to breach the security to find the truth. It seemed now it was the only way. Looking up at the wall you sucked in a breath. You have to now. There's no denying it. (You just hoped Freddy would forgive you.)

Beware.

Shadow Bonnie's warning lingered again.

Beware. Bad rabbit. The bad rabbit, is soon.

What ever that meant you knew it was serious. No matter what insanity waited for you now, your mind was made up. You're going to get to the truth behind it all. For the game developers. For your friends. For the children that almost got hurt by this rabbit.

You're going to save them.
