Help, My Roommate's A Vampire!

I finish pinning up an advert for a new roommate at the local grocery store.

The last guy had disappeared.

The sky is darkening as I leave the store, from lavender to a deep violet. I shiver as a cold wind blows into me. Blue mist hangs icily in the air, wrapping itself around the mountains and the three moons.

I pull my jacket tighter around me as I turn the corner, pulling the hood up over my red curls. The streets grow narrower as I hurry my way home. My breathing grows shallower as my heart starts beating in my throat. There have been many disappearances lately.

And I have an awful feeling of being followed.

Greenish light streams insidiously from above. I look up to see that the largest moon has turned a sinister shade of sacramento. A warning sign of impending doom.

There is a piercing scream.

I double over, cold and sweating. I had momentarily thought that the scream had come from me.

There is another scream.

Then another.

They seem to be sounding from all around me, filling the air with their cacophonous symphony. I pick a direction and heedlessly run.

My feet thump on the asphalt. My heart thumps against my rib cage. My head throbs as the blood rushes to my brain, heightening my senses.

I smell iron.

And as I turn the corner, I see it.

It floods the streets in crimson rivers. It spills from bodies like scarlet rain. Gushing from open wounds, life fills the air with a sick, metallic tang.

In the center of it all stands a man.

Dark hair blows into crimson eyes. He is coated in slick sweat and blood red. He smiles when he sees me, lips smeared scarlet. And that's when I see them. Unmistakable under the moonlight.

A pair of pointed fangs.

My screams fill the air in gasping shrieks. And then there is silence. A thick blanket of terror.

I don't quite know how I make it home after that. I remember running. Running and running and running. Then all at once I am slamming the door behind me, sinking down onto the carpet.

The lights flicker as I get to my feet, wondering whether I just blacked out and had a horrid nightmare. None of seems real.

I take in my simple apartment. Sitting room with mismatched couches; an open kitchen with a couple dishes still in the sink. My bedroom is to the right, along with the spare room that I need to rent out.

A discomforting chill runs down my spine as I stare at the scene before me. It seems different somehow. Sensing a strangers presence, I quickly turn to look behind me.

There is no one there.

I breath a sigh of relief, slowly turning back around.

And that's when I see him.

I scream, stumbling backwards and falling over my feet. The man from earlier is standing in my living room.

He takes a step forward and I scramble back. His eyes are as wild as his dark, curly hair. He opens his mouth to speak and I see a set of sharp fangs.

Vampire.

'What are you doing?' he demands. His deep voice sends chills down my spine.

'Wha- what do you mean, what are you doing here?' I manage to get out. 'Are you here to kill me?'

My whisper hangs in the air.

'No, why would I do that?' He crosses his arms over his chest and glares at me. 'I saw your advert.'

'My advert?'

He stares at me for a long moment before he replies. His answer turns my body to ice.

'I'm your new roommate.'
