Chapter 34
A week later I was sitting in the school library with Louis and Eleanor, we were doing some work before the next class.
"You know who we haven't seen in a while?" Louis suddenly asked. Eleanor and I both looked up.
"Who?"
"Sara. Where has she been?"
Eleanor looked back down at her paper. "Who cares? She's not here, that's all that matters."
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. Where has she gone? She just seemed to disappear.
"Yeah but don't you think that's a little weird?" I said.
"Maybe," Eleanor shrugged. "But she isn't here to bother anyone. So I'm good."
I looked over and Louis and he just shrugged and went back to work.
Something isn't right.
***
I sat on my bed watching Netflix and eating chips. I thought about where Sara could have gone off to but I honestly have no idea. I already asked Zayn if he knew, but he said he didn't. I don't know why I thought he might know but my curiosity was taking over.
There was a soft knocking at my door and Margaret came in. She smiled a little and sat next to me on the bed.
"What's up?" I asked her as I paused my movie.
"I have some good news."
I looked at her skeptically and waited for her to continue.
"Your father has agreed to go into therapy. Not willingly, but I persuaded him to."
"Really?" I said shocked.
"Yeah. After everything he's done to you and Tyler, he really needs to go. Hopefully it will help him. Maybe now he'll learn that it wasn't anyone's fault for what happened to your mother."
I looked down at my lap and nodded. I just realised that I haven't been focusing on her death lately. I mean who could blame me after what's been going on, but I feel bad for not thinking about her as much. It's not that I completely forgot about her, I've just been worried lately.
"Thanks Margaret. You really are helping him and I do appreciate that."
"I lost my daughter. He should appreciate having one as great as you."
I smiled and she kissed my forehead and walked out of the room.
***
I walked into school the next day and walked passed the main office. I glanced through the window and was surprised to see Sara inside talking to the principal.
I walked into the office to hear what was going on. I walked to the other end of the room and pretended to collect something off the table.
"Good to have you back Ms. Stryker." The principal said to her.
I then walked out of the office and back into the hallway. Sara soon walked out too.
She saw me and smirked.
"Missed me?" she said and continued walking down the hall.
That afternoon I walked into the cafeteria and sat down with everyone.
"She's back," I said to them.
"Who?" Niall asked.
"Sara! I saw her this morning."
Eleanor groaned. "Great."
Sara then walked in and almost every one looked at her. I heard the most ridiculous rumors while she was gone saying that she moved away, some people were even saying she died.
She walked in like a queen and sat where she always did, acting like everything was the same, and I guess it is. Her being here isn't really a big deal.
***
Tonight Margaret wanted us all over for dinner so here we are. We've already finished eating. Dad and Margaret were talking in the kitchen while Tyler and I stayed in the living room. Tyler sat on the couch texting Julie.
I stood up and went back over to the pictures. I looked back at the one with Margaret and her husband on her wedding day and the air was knocked out of me.
Chris. It was Chris. Chris was Margaret's ex-husband.
I stared at the photo wide eyed. No wonder why I got a bad feeling the first time I saw it. He was even smirking in the picture. He just can't get that stupid smirk off his face.
I walked into the kitchen where Dad and Margaret sat at the table.
"Margaret."
She turned around. "Yes?"
"What was your husband's name?"
I know it's him, I just have to ask.
She looked confused. "Chris."
My chest tightened.
"And his last name?"
"Stryker. Chris Stryker. Why?"
"Um, I was just curious," I said and walked back into the living room. I stood in the middle of the room, my heart beating a little too fast.
"Emily?" Tyler said. "You look like you've seen a ghost," he chuckled.
"It's nothing. I'm fine," I waved him off.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it."
That last name sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember where I heard it from.
I placed my hand on my head as if that was going to help. I thought about it for a minute and then it suddenly came to me.
"Good to have you back Ms. Stryker."
That's what the principal had said to Sara. Sara.
I looked back at the picture with the little girl. Blonde hair, blue eyes. It was her. That's Sara.
Oh my God.
