(Zayn's POV)

I pulled into the school parking lot and parked my car. I looked over at Emily and smiled. She looked nervous.

"You okay?" I asked. She looked at me and nodded.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I wasn't convinced though.

"What's wrong?" I asked again. She took her time in answering.

"Nothing. Don't worry about it," she gave me a small smile. I knew there was something on her mind, but I didn't ask her about it any further.

I nodded and returned the smile. The bell rang and Emily grabbed the door handle to leave but I grabbed her hand to stop her.

She turned around and opened her mouth to speak but I cut her off by placing my lips on hers.

Her lips were so sweet and calming. I loved the taste of her lips. I loved kissing her in general.

She kissed me back and smiled against my lips. I pulled away and smirked.

She giggled and climed out of the car. She's so cute.

I followed her out of the car and we walked inside. We walked to English class together and I held the door as she walked inside the room.

After we both sat down the annoying teacher spoke up about how we were two minutes late. It was only two minutes, get over it.

"Sorry, it won't happen again," Emily apologized. I rolled my eyes. She's such a good girl.

While the teacher was talking and everyone was doing their work, I pulled out my sketch pad and opened it to a plain paper.

I looked up at Emily and smiled. Her hair fell perfectly over her shoulders and down her back. The light from the window made her hair shine and look like she was glowing.

I picked up my pencil and started drawing what I saw. I know it's only the back of her head, but I didn't care.

By the time the class was over, I finished my drawing and got no work done.

Emily and I walked out of class and down the hallway. Someone called her name and I heard several footsteps rushing towards us.

We both turned around and saw her friends coming. Emily's eyes widened and she looked up at me with pleading eyes.

I understood what she wanted but I wasn't sure.

"I can stay if you want," I offered, but she quickly shook her head.

"No, it's okay. Go," she said. I looked back up at her friends and saw that they were halfway to us now.

I looked back down at Emily and she gave me a small smile and a simple nod. I nodded back and walked away.

I walked down the hall and looked back at the scene. Her friends and brother looked upset as they talked to her. I quickly got angry. They have no right to be mad at her.

Tyler looked over Emily's shoulder and glared at me. I returned his glare and turned the corner.

I walked down a few halls before I saw Sara and Abby coming my way. Sara looked up and smirked when she saw me. I rolled my eyes and continued walking.

"Zayn, wait a minute," she stood in front of me to stop me from walking past her. "Where were you yesterday?"

"Move," I spoke harshly. She looked a little shocked, but not too shocked to take another step towards me and wrap her arms around my neck.

"Why are you treating me like this?" she faked a pout. She knows exactly why.

"Don't play dumb," I narrowed my eyes at her.

"Oh, is it because of those rumors I helped spread?" she smirked. "Don't worry about those, she deserved it. And I'm not mad at you anymore."

"She doesn't deserve any of it!" By now everyone in the halls were watching us. Even Abby stood behind Sara with a smirk on her face.

"This is what I don't understand. Why do you care?" Sara asked. I'm tired of this.

"Get out of my way, Sara."

Her whole expression changed and she surprised me by saying, "Not until you kiss me."

Is she serious? She really thinks I'm going to kiss her? She's dumber than I thought.

I unwrapped her arms from around me and pushed her away.

"You've got to be kidding me. We're done, Sara. I broke up with you yesterday. Or do you not remember?"

"You couldn't be serious. You need me. You want me. I mean, just look at me. What's here not to want?" she boasted and placed her hand on her hip.

"Everything," I answered. "I'm done with you, Sara. Go play with someone else."

Her eyes widened and she gaped. I smirked and started walking away.

"This is a big mistake, Zayn," she said.

"Not a chance," I said over my shoulder and walked further down the hallway.

I felt realived. I'm finally done with her. She was always so annoying and clingy. She wouldn't want me to be five feet away from her. It got exhausting.

I only kept her around so I could have someone to go to when I wanted a little fun.

And it was the same with her. We made an agreement on that. But she took it seriously.

I don't know why she stuck with me when she would be with different guys every day. Some times when I went over to her house a guy would be leaving.

I never cared though, and I still don't.

To be honest, I don't know why I stayed with her for so long. I mean, at the beginning I thought she was hot and would make a good toy.

But after a while I started getting tired of it. I know that sounds weird, but it's true.

After grabbing a tray of food, I sat at one of the empty tables. I was defiantly not sitting where I usualy do.

People looked at me curiously. Their stares didn't bother me though.

I looked around but stopped when Emily walked in and grabbed her food. She always seemed to light up a room.

Wow, that sounded corny. What has gotten into me?

I saw a few guys at a table staring at her. They were smirking as they whispered to each other.

One of them stared at her ass as she walked across the room. I glared at him and he looked away from her. The others at the table glanced at me and turned their attention to something else.

Good.

I watched as she sat with her friends and silently ate her food. Once she joined her friends they all turned their attention to her and talked to her. It actually looked like they were interrogating her.

Why can't they just leave her alone? I clenched my hand around my fork as I watched.

She looked overwhelmed as she looked down at her tray and not once opened her mouth to speak.

I only got angrier with every question they asked her. I tried to calm down, but it was near impossible to do so.

Someone sat at the table with me and I turned around to see who joined me. It was Harry.

"What do you want?" I asked. He rolled his eyes and leaned on the table.

"When are you going to give Chris his money?" he whispered so no one could hear.

"Once he gives me my money," I shrugged.

"He's pissed."

"And? So am I." Harry huffed and ran a hand through his hair.

"He said he'll give you your money if you win one more time."

"He said that last week," I said annoyed.

"Why won't you agree to it?" Harry asked harshly. "He's not asking for so much."

"He wants 800 dollars that I don't have."

"Then get it," he spat.

"How am I supposed to do that?" I snapped.

"I don't know. Figure it out!" Very helpful. "Maybe you can win a couple rounds for money?"

That's not a bad idea. It's worth a shot.

"Fine," I huffed. Harry smirked and leaned back.

"And he wants another girl," he stated.

"He has one. Why does he want another?"

"Because he doesn't have one. He killed her when she tried to tell someone about everything." Great, just great.

"And why do I have to find another toy for him. Why can't you do it?"

"I don't know. Stop whining." My face hardened as I glared at him.

"Shut up!" Yes he's my best friend, but he can be very aggravating.

Harry threw his hands up in mock surrender and smirked.

"Just give Chris what he wants, okay?" Harry asked.

"Yeah, I got it," I waved him off. He rolled his eyes before standing up and walking away.

The bell rang and I stood up and left the cafeteria.

I walked out of the building when school was over. I looked around and saw Emily sitting on the bench.

I smiled at the sight of her and walked over to her. She looked up when I got closer and smiled.

"What are you doing?" I asked her. She looked confused and answered.

"I'm waiting for Tyler so I can go home," she said but it sounded more like a question.

I shook my head. "I told you that you can't. It's not safe."

She looked down. "Right," she chuckled bitterly.

"You can go back tomorrow, okay? I promise," I said. She nodded and stood up. We walked to my car and I opened the door for her. She climed in and I shut the door. I walked to the driver's side and looked around.

I saw Harry looking my way. He smirked and nodded before walking to his car.

I rolled my eyes and climed into my car. I started the car and drove to my place.

When we got there I parked the car and Emily and I got out. As we walked to the door I looked around for anyone who could be watching.

After seeing that everything looked clear, I walked inside the building. Emily and I waited for the elevator and stepped in when it came.

We stood in silence as the elevator took us up. I looked at Emily and she was looking at the floor.

I wonder what she's thinking about.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing," she lied. I was about to ask her again when the doors opened. She quickly stepped out and walked down the hall. I followed her to my door and unlocked it for us.

We both stepped in and I closed the door behind us.

I followed Emily into the living. She harshly threw her bag on the floor and ran her hand through her hair.

I stood behind her with a puzzled expresion.

"Emily, what's wrong?" I asked softly. She turned around with an angry look on her face.

"What are you hiding from me?" she asked. I was surprised from her question. Where did that come from?

"What are you talking about?"

"It's obvious that you're keeping something from me. Why isn't anywhere safe for me to be? Why can't I go home? Who the hell was that man in the woods?!"

Not again. Why does she ask so many questions?

"Why can't you just leave it alone?" I sighed and ran a hand through my hair.

"Leave it alone? I can't just leave it alone Zayn! There's something going on and it involves me now. And I want to know why."

"You're not involved with anything," I tried reassuring her on that. No one is after her. I just have to make sure.

"Then why isn't it safe for me to be home?"

"Because I want to make sure you aren't anyone's target." I probably shouldn't have said that.

"Target? Someone wants to k-kill me?" she stuttered and gulped. I walked towards her and held her arms.

"No one wants to kill you," I told her. I won't let them, I added in my head.

Her eyes started to fill with tears and I started to worry.

"What's going on, Zayn?" she whimpered.

"I can't tell you. You just have to trust me." She didn't look convinced but she gave me a simple nod.

She looked down and took a deep breath. I placed my finger under her chin and lifted her head up. She stared into my eyes and I did the same.

"Nothing will happen to you," I whispered to her. She nodded and I kissed her forhead.

Her body relaxed a little bit and I looked back into her eyes.

"I promise."
