Part 14- 3rd Person
Upon going back to college and adjusting to their new schedules for the new semester, the friends are still as close as before. Through this time away from each other, however, each of them discovered what they wanted to do with their lives.
Lucia knew what she wanted to do before her abusive ex came into her life, and through all that time of being with him then recovering after her escape, she spent so much time just recovering and healing from the PTSD the relationship brought her that she did not have a career in mind. Cam gave up their childhood dream (made it only a hobby instead) after their mother and father said both she and he hated their art. Scarlett was caught up in her eating disorder and dealing with unrealistic standards, opposite but equally toxic, from both of their divorced parents. And Harper was, essentially, hopeless in his situation, only taking things day by day.
But on Friday afternoon during the first week of the new semester, the four met at the coffee shop during Cam's half-hour meal break to have a drink.
"Guys!" exclaimed Harper. "I finally know what I wanna do with my life!" He was excited as ever, smiling a genuine smile for the first time in a while.
Cam applauded him, smiling along. "Dude, that's so cool! What though?"
"I am going to major in cosmetology and minor in business."
Lucia gasped with happiness. "Awesome! So are you gonna have, like, your own service business where you do people's makeup?"
Harper nodded quickly, his smile getting brighter. "Hell yeah! I'm also gonna try out for the dance team... on the side."
Scarlett high-fived Harper. "Congratulations! I know what I wanna do with my life too. I am going to be an English major with a creative writing concentration and a journalism minor."
More applause followed. "Girl, that's so cool! It fits you well," Lucia gushed. "I was thinking of becoming a music major and minor. I'll major in industry so I can learn the ropes of production and all that, then minor in composition because I want to get even better at writing songs and releasing them."
More applause. "So you're gonna, like, be an artist? Like famous?" asked Cam.
"I don't know about famous, because I want to be an independent artist not on a label, but... I hope so!" exclaimed Lucia.
"Either way, that's wonderful," they replied with a nod. "I think I know too! I want to be an art teacher. I'll major in art education and hopefully teach at the middle school or high school level."
More applause. Harper's jaw dropped, and he clapped extra loud. "You would be great at that!"
"Thank you so much! And something I kind of noticed," said Cam, "all of these career paths we chose were all things we used to love when we were kids, fell out of love with when our traumatic events happened, and then gradually fell in love with again after becoming friends!"
Scarlett thought for a moment, then came to the realization. They laughed. "That's true though!" She sighed. "Seriously though, I love how true that is. Aww I love us."
Harper would soon go on to try out for, and make it onto, the dance team and track/field team, where he would dance his heart away (in hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballet) with new friends and run to escape things. Scarlett would soon join the cosplay & fandom club, having fun with a few new friends of her own there in costume as well. She would also go on to score a part-time job at the library. Lucia would soon audition for, and make it into, the acapella ensemble, where she would make beautiful harmonies with her fellow singer friends. And Cam would soon join the art club to broaden their skills and even help to coach other artists.
Each of the friends are still tight with each other while on their own different career paths, supporting each other in their clubs' events. All while they are in group therapy every week to heal together.
