Fairy Tale

Francis had finally made it to work and gave Arthur a grumpy look as he saw the desk void of the daily croissant and Starbucks.

"No croissant Arthur? How will I live through the day?! You've never broken our little routine!" Francis cried dramatically.

"Calm down. I came into work early and the Starbucks was closed." Arthur lied as his friend whined. As Francis sat down at his desk, Arthur became increasingly worried. What if he found out he was on his computer? Francis logged in and Arthur sighed a sigh of relief as he saw that the files he had opened didn't pop up when Francis logged in.

"You know, that cute American is coming in again today." Francis said casually.

"What!? When?! Really?!" Arthur asked, a bit too over-enthusiastically. Francis cocked an eyebrow and looked in the direction his friend like he was a madman.

"Excited are we?" Francis teased.

"No! I just- I just-" Arthur tried to redeem himself, "Okay fine! You win! He's hot!"

"I KNEW YOU WERE GAY! OHONHONHONHONHONH!" Francis yelled, just as a familiar looking blond American entered the lobby. Arthur turned around, mortified, and nearly dropped dead as he saw his crush standing only a few feet behind him. Francis stopped laughing and they both stared at the American as he stood there with a disturbed expression on his face.

"HE WAS JUST KIDDING!" Arthur blurted suddenly, his face bright red in embarrassment. The American laughed and said,

"It's fine Dr. Kirkland. To be honest, you're not the only gay in this lobby."

"Yeah we all know Francis is gay..." Arthur admitted.

"I'm not talking about Francis." The American said smoothly with a wink before walking away into Lovino's office.

"Did he just-" Arthur questioned, his jaw still open in shock.

"Onhonhon.. I think the yank likes you."

Arthur flushed an even deeper shade of red as he is head replayed what just happened over and over again. Alfred was gay! Now all Arthur had to do was muster up the courage to make a move, but he knew he never would. He was far too shy. "I- uh- I'll see you later Francis, I'm going to get to work." Arthur finally said, brain still frazzled from what just happened.

Arthur was in the middle of sequencing some DNA when he heard a knock at the door. He had finished all his work already and he was pretty bored so he took some of the geneticist's DNA work and added it to his own. He needed to keep his mind moving and he adored biology so he didn't mind it. He looked up from his microscope and to the door to see Lovino standing outside the lab. Arthur shot him a confused look before opening the door and asking him what was up.

"Patients aren't allowed in the lab and Alfred told me he wanted to speak with you, so I'm here to tell you to get your ass in the lobby." Loving said bluntly before turning away.

"Wait?! Did he say why? And where are you going?" Arthur asked, grabbing on to the Italian's arm. Loving turned back around before saying,

"No. And I'm going to go have lunch with my boyfriend. Addio." Lovino stated as a blush crept onto his cheeks. Arthur always knew Lovino got flustered when he talked about Antonio. He was a very private person and hated talking about his long time boyfriend. Arthur smiled and the Italian shot him a death glare before wriggling out of his grasp and stomping away.

As the lab door closed and Arthur was left in silence, his stomach suddenly filled with butterflies. Alfred wanted to talk to him? In the lobby? For what? He made his way to the lobby and nervously smiled as he saw Alfred leaning against the front desk, talking to Francis. Arthur's shoes made a squeak as he stumbled forwards, making Alfred look up from the desk.

They made eye contact and Alfred immediately smiled, watching as the Englishman approached him. Arthur could've sworn that smile lit up the room. It was almost blinding. He didn't know what it was about Alfred, but he was angelic. Maybe it was because Arthur hadn't had a crush on anyone in a while, but Alfred made him feel like no other.

"Hey Doc-"

"Call me Arthur"

"Oh thank god, It felt weird calling you Doctor Kirkland," the American admitted with a chuckle. "I uh- I wanted to know if you were free tonight? Maybe you'd want to get a drink?"

"A drink? That sounds lovely." Arthur responded, trying to sound casual as he internally screamed.

"Cool! I'll pick you up at 7. What's your address?" Alfred asked casually.

"Oh it's 15 Suffolk Street. Want me to write it down?" Arthur asked, trying to act like he didn't know the American had hyperthymesia.

"No it's fine. I've got a decent memory. I'm sure I can manage." Alfred reassured coolly. "See you then!" he said with a smile. Arthur smiled and waved as the American turned to leave. Just as the boy entered the elevator, Francis nearly screamed.

"DID THAT JUST HAPPEN!?" the Frenchman cried as Arthur stood there in shock.

"Pinch me."

"That was something out of a movie! Your crush just asked you out. And we were just talking about him this morning!" Francis exclaimed, excited for his best friend.

"That did not just happen." Arthur said dully, still staring at the empty space where his American crush once stood.

"I guess we'll know at 7, mon ami."
