fifteen: family reunion
Cass entered Hiro's hospital room with quiet resolve, her mind occupied with the weight of the past few days. As she moved toward Hiro's bedside, she glanced up and froze. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she saw Tadashi sitting there, looking remarkably alive and real.
The sight was almost too surreal to process. Cass's breath caught in her throat, and she blinked rapidly, her heart pounding. She had been preparing herself for the worst, and the unexpected presence of Tadashi felt like a dream—or a cruel trick of her mind.
GoGo, noticing Cass's stunned expression, quickly stepped forward. "Cass, it's really him. Tadashi's alive. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true."
Cass's shock gave way to overwhelming emotion. Tears streamed down her face as she rushed to Tadashi, wrapping him in a fierce hug. The suddenness of her movement made Tadashi flinch, but he quickly relaxed into her embrace, his own tears mingling with hers. "I'm back, Aunt Cass. I'm here," he choked out, his voice thick with emotion.
The team, recognizing the deeply personal nature of the moment, quietly slipped out of the room to give the family space.
As the initial flood of tears began to ebb, Tadashi gently pulled back to look at Cass. "Hiro will get better," he assured her. "He got infected with a bio-weapon but we've managed to cure him. The infection is gone, but his body needs time to heal from the damage it caused."
Cass's gaze shifted to Hiro, who lay in the hospital bed, looking fragile. The monitors beeped steadily, tracking his slow but steady recovery. Hiro's skin was pale and drawn, and his breathing was labored. He was connected to an IV drip that provided essential nutrients and medication.
Cass reached out and took Hiro's hand gently. As she held it, her tears flowed anew. Her voice trembled as she spoke, "I can't believe it. My boys are here. My boys are okay. I thought I was going to lose you both." Her emotions poured out as she clutched Hiro's hand, feeling a profound sense of relief and gratitude.
Tadashi continued, "His internal organs were severely damaged by the infection. It's a long road to recovery. The root cause is cured, but his body needs time to repair itself. The healing process will be gradual, but with the infection gone, his organs should slowly recover."
Hiro, stirred by the noise and grip on his, blinked open his eyes slowly. He looked around the room, his gaze landing on Tadashi with a mix of confusion and relief. "Am I... Am I dead?" he asked weakly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Tadashi offered a sad but comforting smile, brushing Hiro's hair softly. "No, Hiro. We're both okay. Everything will be alright from now on."
Hiro's eyes fluttered closed again, a faint, relieved smile touching his lips. The room was filled with a sense of peace and quiet relief as Tadashi and Cass held each other, cherishing the reunion and looking forward to a future where hope and recovery prevailed.
