The Dark Side of Nature, Part 2

"One, two, three, four," Eichi sang happily as she counted the coins she had gotten as change for her puzzles, which were in her bag bobbing along with her skipping. "That's 400 yen! Yay! Wonder what vegetables I can buy with it to keep Kaasan healthy~!"

Her eyes scanned the horizon, observing the stalls she passed by cheerfully as she went, trying to find something to bring back to her mother and father.

But instead, her eyes caught something else.

It was this something that drew Eichi to the store's window, looking at it with high interest.

Twin kunais that glinted in the sunlight, with a ruby and emerald on each dagger's handle instead of a blank space seemed to call out to her as she stood there, eyes not leaving it.

"What's this?" Eichi tilted her head, feeling slightly confused over why these daggers were being displayed in a bookstore, since they were usually sold in a weapons store.

Her eyes meandered off to the sign beside it, which soon explained why.

These twin kunais can be won if we buy 10 calligraphy pens, eh?... Eichi mused. She began to analyse the situation, narrowing her eyes and rubbing her chin to show it.

Tousan's a calligrapher, so this should be good enough.... But what if these daggers are fake?.... Nah, it can't be. It looks authentic.......

Eichi just sighed softly after a while, "Maybe I should ask Touchan and Kaachan first.... We should waste money after all..."

She was about to turn around when a new advantage made itself known. They could use it to defend themselves....

Eichi's eyes widened upon realising it, before a small grin spread on her face, "Well then, don't mind if I do!"

With that, she walked into the store to buy the calligraphy pens and the kunais, unaware of the pit of pain it would bring her to.

"Eh? Why did you buy those kunais, Eichi?" her father looked confused as he looked to them, unsure how to feel about his daughter buying this for self-defence.

"After thinking about how dangerous times are getting, I decided to buy it and try to use it in case we get attacked," Eichi replied as she worked on yet another puzzle, concentrating on it.

"But who's going to teach you? What if you get hurt?" he turned to her, feeling concerned for her wellbeing.

She looked up from it, having finished it, only to see his face. She sighed softly before she smiled at him, "I'll be fine, Touchan. I think that it's a good pastime to take up. Plus, I can get some fresh air! If I do get hurt, I can always count on you to patch it up."

Hearing her words just made Tekure pat her on the head, "Thank you for doing this, Eichi."

"It's fine Tousan! I don't mind!" Eichi grinned back at him, her cheerful smile on her face.

"Just be careful when you practise out there, okay?" he warned.

"Don't worry, Tousan! Eichi-chan will take good care of herself!"

"Aww, that's my little marshmallow!" he squished her cheeks slightly, making the girl go red in the face, "O-Otousan!!"
