Memories and Bonds, Part 6

The scroll told them about a memory altering spell which could be done with only eye contact and a hug. It detailed the side-effects, like how the victim would believe that the caster was his/her friend, anger towards the others in their memories, believing that they were the ones who cast the spell, etc.

And it perfectly described what Natsume had done to them.

"So Shutendouji.... altered Natsume's memories?" Akinori blinked.

"Yeah," Keisuke nodded. "This matches everything we've seen so far in Neechan."

"But is there a cure?" Touma asked him.

"Let me check for a while," Keisuke skimmed the text quickly. "How to do it...Symptoms... History...Ah! Found it!"

The duo immediately crowded behind him as the 3 of them looked at the text.

Cure

This spell clings onto its victim as long as the caster is near them at a radius of 5 meters. So in order to break the spell, you must get the victim away from the caster at exactly 5.1 meters and then force the magic out of the victim's body. After that, it must be combatted until it is gone.

Their jaws dropped.

"5.1 meter?!" Akinori looked horrified. "How are we supposed to get it exact?!"

"More importantly, how do we force magic out of one's body?" Touma asked. Keisuke frowned.

"I think there's some sort of device that can help us do that," he deduced. "This kind of stuff would only be possible if such a device existed."

"True, but where can we find this thing?" Touma asked back.

Akinori blinked for a while, confusion written on his face obviously, before his eyes widened in realisation, "Oh, I think I have something! Hold on!" He stood up and rushed out.

Touma and Keisuke looked at each other, a bit confused over Akinori's sudden realisation. Touma then took out his phone and typed out the cure, so they wouldn't forget it.

Keisuke looked over his shoulder, "You have great translation skills. Do you like history or something?"

"Oh, how did you know?" Touma looked up from typing. Keisuke shrugged.

"It's kind of obvious, I suppose."

"Is it?" Touma sheepishly scratched the back of his head. "Well then, I guess I can't hide it anymore."

"Why would you want to hide it, Touma?" Keisuke frowned. "Just be who you are and don't listen to the jeers of your surroundings. You're perfect the way you are."

Touma's eyes widened in shock. W-What?

"I mean, no one's supposed to be 100% good. Not even Neechan can pull that off. That's why you don't have to worry about what others think, because you're who you are, Touma, and nothing can change that," Keisuke smiled thinly.

Touma looked at Keisuke, unable to believe that this was coming out of an eleven-year-old's mouth.

It was then that he finally realised the huge bags under his red eyes, the pure tire in them completely visible.

Touma mentally hit himself for being so down because of Natsume. It was obvious that Keisuke was going through the hardest time, since this was his SISTER, not just a friend, and his own family hated him now.

"... Thanks, Keisuke. I really needed that," Touma smiled at him.

"No problem, Touma," Keisuke grinned back.
