RING RING!
"Urgh...." Akino opened one eye as he grabbed his phone, briefly checking the time (3 a.m.? Who would call at such a time?) before he picked the phone up.
"Moshi moshi..." he sleepily mumbled.
"Wake up Akino! We have a situation!" a very familiar voice called out, "panic" obvious in his tone.
"Huh?! Dad?!" Akino shot up from the sofa, causing Rau and Choiseung, who had been sleeping on either side of him, to get a rude awakening from their slumber.
"Oi, oi, Akino!" Choiseung groaned as he groggily got up from the sofa. "What's up with all that hopping?"
"Oh, are Rau and Choiseung there too?" Aruke asked him.
"A-Ah..." Akino honestly replied.
"That's great. Can you put it on loudspeaker? You can just tell Chenhua-kun later on," he asked again.
"Okay then," Akino complied, allowing Rau and Choiseung to hear Aruke's words.
"All right, can you guys hear me?" Aruke sounded a bit impatient.
"Yeah, we can, Uncle Aruke," Choiseung looked confused, "but why are you calling at 3 a.m. of all times?"
"There's been an emergency in the Shadowside realm! Keisuke's been kidnapped!"
"WHAT?!" the trio chorused in shock.
"By who?!" Choiseung demanded.
"No idea, but they said that it's a Fan Artist's fault."
"Fan Artist?" Rau blinked. "Aren't they people who draw fanart and stuff?"
"Yes, and just like fanfiction writers, they can influence the fictional world," he explained. "Because of this, they are called psuedo-Fate Changers. Anyway, they say that it's a Fan Artist called Bearlywrote, who has a Youkaisona, namely Bearlynyan/Bearly Cuddly. She is backed by Bakunyan, her boyfriend, Cubbonyan, her child, and a bunch of fanmade Youkai. From what I could gather, their current location is unknown, but they've already taken Keisuke, Keita, and both versions of Dan, the main protagonist for Bakugan."
"Wow," Rau frowned. "That's bad."
"Very. That's why I'm asking you 4 to go to the Shadowside world to help us save Keisuke."
"All right then. You'll provide the portal right?"
"Yeah. I've already set it to go to the shrine, and for it to be opened an hour from now."
"Okay. Thanks for telling us, Dad," Akino thanked.
"No problem," Aruke replied before closing the phone.
Choiseung smiled a bit, "Well, look on the bright side; we'll be seeing Yame-chan again."
"Good point," Rau chuckled.
"Let's hurry and pack, you two," Akino chided. "We've got an hour left to go."
"Got it," the other 2 nodded before they quickly rushed off. Akino sighed as he straightened his glasses, trudging off to the bathroom to freshen up.
"HE'S BEEN WHAT?!" Chenhua looked like his eyes could fall out of his sockets at the moment after hearing the strange news.
"Believe me, all of us were stunned after hearing it as well," Rau looked a bit serious.
"... Well, then, I guess that it's a good thing that I always have an overnight bag packed up," Chenhua went over to his cupboard where he put all the medical stuff, and squatted, taking an overnight bag out of it before shrugging off the doctor's jacket.
"All right," he set it down on the sofa. "When's the portal arriving?"
"Should be soon-" As if on cue, a yellow portal opened up.
"Huh, it's yellow this time," Choiseung noted. "Wonder why?"
"Well, we can ask Dad about it once we've rescued Keisuke," Akino offered.
"Sounds good," Choiseung nodded.
"Come on, guys, we're burning time talking here. We still have a mission," Chenhua reminded them.
The 3 looked at one another before nodding at Chenhua, and the 4 of them stepped through the portal.
Choiseung ended up being at the bottom of the dog-pile as the 4 adults arrived at the Shadowside realm just as the Agency was about to leave Enma's palace.
Ayame immediately gasped, "You guys!" as she rushed over and hugged them.
"Hey there, Yame," Rau smiled at her.
"Dad told us of your situation, so you don't have to explain it," Akino quickly told them.
"Good to know," Touma sighed.
"Mou, why did that bear have to kidnap Keisuke?!" Natsume groaned. "Of all the people in our cast, it just HAD to be him."
"True," Chenhua nodded. "The story itself, while not completely focusing on him, is dependent on him as he gives the viewers a person to relate to. If not, the complexity of all the characters wouldn't make them feel much."
"That's a good point," Akinori sighed.
"I wonder what Level 5 would think of this," Choiseung chuckled.
"Probably lose their heads again," Enma guessed. "This HAS happened before."
"Eh? It has?" Akino blinked.
"Oh," Nurarihyon nodded. "But it was with the original series. Bearlywrote made Keita run away."
"Woah..." The 4 adults looked shocked.
"... But then again, I guess that they DO deserve it," Rau suddenly noted. "I mean, they love wasting all the Character Development in their animes. Take this anime for an example. According to what we know, Keisuke never really changes throughout the entire thing, only showing courage a few times. Other than that, he's just the same. You would think that Level 5 would make him more... I don't know, courageous? Less dependent on Natsume?, but they didn't."
"That's a good point," Chenhua mumbled. "In Layton Mystery Agency, their victim is usually Noah, while in Orion, maybe Asuto? I don't know."
"So much potential was wasted... They don't really care for the "main" characters," Akino sighed, using his hands to make air quotes.
"Honestly, I was attracted to Shadowside because of the prospect of having Keisuke around, but Level 5 just let me down," Choiseung admitted.
"What's wrong with us?" Akinori frowned. "What attracted you to Keisuke in general?"
Choiseung shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe he's actually relatable. I mean, solving a lot of cases DOES make one lonely."
"But wouldn't you relate more to Touma?" Natsume spoke up.
"Not really," Choiseung shook his head. "Keisuke may look sociable on the outside, but he's not really that way. I understand him, in a way."
"Same here," Akino nodded.
"Hey, speaking of which, where IS Uncle Aruke?" Rau called out the elephant of the room.
"Now that you mention it, I don't see him anywhere..." Chenhua looked around.
"Maybe he's trying to get more recruits?" Choiseung suggested.
Akino shrugged, "Dad's as mysterious as the world will come to it, but I know that he's supporting the main story."
"Sorry for the delay, Bearlynyan," Aruke apologised as he leaned on the wall in an alley. "I had to drag Akino and the others into this to keep my 'loyalty'."
"Don't worry about it," the Lightside of a huge blue bear smiled a bit. "You're sacrificing a lot to help us already, so I can't really say much."
"Yeah," Gluesome, the Youkai form of Dan Kouzo, the main character of an anime called Bakugan Brawl Battlers, nodded. "You're risking your relationships and all that just to help us give Keisuke development."
"Well, what can I say?" Aruke sighed. "Level 5 needs to learn a lesson. They have to know that this was what they started the moment they used Keisuke in the horrible manner that they did. I hate it so much."
"You're really kind to the unappreciated characters, Aruke-san," Gluesome smiled at Aruke.
"It's nothing. I just understand how he must feel," Aruke gave a small smile.
"Anyway, back to business," Bearlynyan took out a list. "We have 5 items to get to awaken Keisuke's Youkai powers. Ready for it?"
"Of course!" Gluesome and Aruke chorused.
"Let's do it," Aruke grinned.
