Good Cop, Bad Cop, Part 3, Kugewa
With the same strategy as the previous day's in mind, Aruke and Konju were ready to face the next Dark Balancer, AKA Kugewa, who usually fought Konju, and was consequently the reason Konju could get brainwashed in the first place.
Aruke wasn't sure if he could be nice to Kugewa, to be honest. He DID feel angry at Kugewa for doing that, but Aruke reminded himself of his objective, so he composed himself before he stepped into the interrogation room, thanking Konju for his "Good luck, Ruke."
Kugewa looked up to look at Aruke, "Hello there." His words were slick and played off his tongue like a snake's.
"Hi," Aruke put on a smile as he took a seat across from Kugewa. "You feeling good today?"
"Oh, please, don't try to butter me up, Aruke," Kugewa hummed. "It makes me feel bad for you."
"Huh? Why so?" Aruke tilted his head, leaning forward ever so slightly to show his interest.
"Because you could have been a great ally had you joined us," Kugewa replied. "The world would have bowed to you. No one would ever insult you again."
Aruke gripped his hands, trying not to be affected by Kugewa's words, "That may be true, but it's still wrong, no matter what."
Kugewa shrugged weakly, "Everyone in this world has their opinions. You're just one of the people who believe in good."
"And you and Hieru are the ones who believe in the dark side?" Aruke tilted his head again.
"The light must be stopped," Kugewa's tone suddenly grew an edge. "They destroyed our lives."
"Why?"
"Hieru and I used to live in a world where discipline ran rampant. You make a single mistake, you get punished severely," Kugewa hissed. "Tomako saved us from that world, and opened our eyes to the truth; that the light is selfish. They only care for themselves-"
"You're wrong," Aruke shook his head. "You're forgetting that no one is perfect. We can make mistakes. You may have been exposed to the dark side of things, but you shouldn't blame others for it. Start looking at yourself and wonder what went wrong, then fix it."
Kugewa growled, "I hear that all the time-"
The door was kicked open as Konju marched in like a soldier, glaring at Kugewa darkly while grabbing his shirt, "Listen to Ruke before I beat you up."
Kugewa yelped a bit, nodding frantically as Aruke mentally facepalmed. Konju....
"Good," Konju sat down beside Aruke.
"A-Anyway," Aruke coughed, "W-We want to be your friends, if that's all right with you."
Kugewa blinked, "Really?"
Aruke nodded, kicking Konju under the table to make him bob his head up and down, "Yeah, we do!"
Kugewa looked shocked for a while, before a teary smile appeared on his face, "I-I would like that."
"Great," Aruke smiled at him.
"I'll try to answer any questions you have related to our job, but don't expect them to be a lot."
"We're not going to expect that," Aruke shook his head. "First question, do you know any of Tomako's friends?"
"Erm... I'm not that sure... Tomako had a lot of them," Kugewa honestly replied. "There was that crazy genius, and that weird void."
"I see... What about Tomako's book? What was in it?"
"A very detailed explanation about how to destroy protagonists," Kugewa looked a bit dried up.
The 2 looked at each other.
"Is that all you can recall?" Konju inquired.
"Y-Yeah..." Kugewa nodded.
"Thank you so much, Kugewa," Aruke gave him a smile as the two of them stood up, bowing to him as well.
"It's fine," Kugewa smiled back before they left.
