Short 5: Amara the Accountant
Author Note: After Place Before Helluva Boss: The New Employee Episode 7
In the I.M.P Office, Loona and Amara are sitting on the couch. Of course, since Amara's ankle is still broken, she isn't able to go on the assignments for a while. Amara is talking to Octavia on the phone.
Over the phone, Octavia asks, "So how is your ankle?"
"It's doing okay, but I still have to keep off of it for a few more weeks," Amara says.
"So what do you plan to do since you've become a little disable?" Octavia asks.
"Well, Blitz and Moxxie said that they have something for me to do since I can't chase the targets or attack them when they resist," Amara answers.
"Well, I'm sure you'll be able to do something to keep yourself entertained," Octaiva says, over the phone.
"Yeah. I sure hope so. I should get going. Blitz and Moxxie should be out in a minute," Amara says.
"Okay. Talk to you later," Octavia says.
"Bye," Amara says.
Then Amara hangs up the phone. That's when Blitz and Moxxie walk in. Moxie is holding a rather large stack of papers while Blitz is holding the grimoire and a grin on his face.
Blitz walks over and says, "Hi Amara, we got some work for you to do. Since you can't go out with us, we decided to give you some paperwork."
"Paper work, huh," Amara replies.
Moxxie then places the papers down on the receptionist table.
"Yes. There are still some positions in our job that haven't been filled in. How good are you with math and writing?" Moxie replies.
"Well, I'm good with math and such. I don't want to bring it up or anything, but I'm kind of well..." Amara says, embarrassed.
But Roy says, "Amara is actually smart, especially with math and english. I think Aunt Eda even told me that you were moved a few grades and ended up graduating high school when you're fourteen."
Amara blushes, "Uh, yeah that sounds about right."
"Really? I didn't know you were this smart," Millie says.
"Yeah. I'm smart, and all that, I get it. It's not like I get good grades or anything, I got a B+ one time on a test," Amara says.
"Still, you seem to have a good head on her shoulders to handle the paperwork, so consider yourself having a second job," Blitz says.
"Well, at least it will be something to keep me busy while my ankle is recovering," Amara says, and uses the crunches to walk towards the receptionist desk.
Blitz then moves another chair to the desk for Amara to sit down.
"Now all that is settled. We got five more clients waiting for heads to roll so we'll be hitting the road," Blitz says.
Millie draws the circle and pentagram on the wall and it turns into a portal.
"See you kids later," Blitz says.
He along with Moxxie and Millie walk through the portal and it soon closes behind it.
"Okay, I guess it's time to get all of this started," Amara says.
Amara opens one of the folders and begins to work on the paperwork. Loona and Roy are doing their personal stuff. Amara has been doing the math on the paper and also the calculator that is next to her. She writes the results.
Sometime later, Loona gets bored of doing stuff on her phone and the computer, and looks to see how Amara is doing. To her surprise, Amara has already got so much paperwork.
"Huh, you finished quite a lot in a short amount of time," Loona says.
"Yeah. I've been doing a lot of math stuff for sometime now. Mainly because I need to count how many vegetables we grow, how far they need to spread, and when we hardest, we need to estimate how many can fit in each box, and such. Plus, I help my parents with the orders, payment, and such," Amara says.
"Hmm, sounds like you're a diligent worker. But still, it doesn't really make much sense if other demons know it," Loona says.
"Why do you say that?" Amara asks.
"Well, look at it this way: a young Owl Demon who is smart to graduate from a young age, who knows how to use a gun, dagger, works hard, and is actually strong and magical. Not to mention you can play a guitar and write songs. I'm surprised you haven't started a business or stuff like that," Loona says.
"I suppose that's true. I can start a business, go to college, and such, but I choose not to because my family needs me. As of now, my Aunt Eda raised me and I do what I can to help with the work around her farm, and take care of my brother and make sure he gets everything he needs. I've decided to work outside of home to get some experience, and such. To be honest, I don't fully know what I want to do with myself. Even after graduating from school. I... I don't know because I've been making so many hard decisions and keep choosing to take care of my family. My Aunt told me that she wanted me to have the freedom of what I want to do with my life, but even now, I don't know what I really want to do with my life. So I'm feeling rather lost as of now," Amara explains.
She turns to Loona and smiles, "So until I can decide what I want to do for myself, I can continue being an assassin, and do whatever I can to make a living."
"Well, you sure are a good one at a lot of things. So just keep sticking to what you're doing for the time being," Loona says.
"Thanks Loona," Amara replies.
"Not to mention it. But seriously, don't mention it," Loona says.
"Right," Amara says, and chuckles a bit.
