Short 17: Watching Over Little Roy
Author Note: During Helluva Boss The New Employee Episode 20
Early in the morning of Amara's date, she flies in the air with Roy in her arms, and with a backpack with some stuff the little Imp is going to need. Amara flies to a small balcony and lands on it. Then places Roy on the ground.
Amara knocks on the window door and hears Octavia's voice, "Coming."
The door opens to reveal Octavia who is all dressed, and is actually looking less depressed.
"Hey Amara, here to drop off Roy," Octavia says.
"You know it. Thanks for watching him for the day," Amara says.
"It's no problem. Well, I actually like having Roy around. It's a good distraction from the fights my parents have," Octavia says.
"Still going at it?" Amara asks.
"Yep," Octavia says.
Roy turns to Amara, "I hope your day goes well."
"Thanks Roy," Amara says.
She gently pats his head and says, "Be a good boy and behave for Octavia. Make sure you eat your meals, ask if you need anything, and I'll be back late tonight."
"Okay," Roy says.
Amara levitates herself in the air, "And don't forget to have fun. Bye."
"Bye," Roy says.
Amara then flies away, Octavia turns to Roy and says, "Come on Roy, let's go inside and see if there's anything for you to do."
"Sure," Roy replies.
Soon, Octavia and Roy walk inside her bedroom and soon sit on the bed. Octavia then turns on the t.v and she switches to a kids show. It shows a hellmouse being chased by a hellcat.
Octavia turns to Roy, "So, Amara is actually going on a date with Aaron, huh?"
"Yeah. Amara seems very excited, and she's been best friends since they were kids," Roy says.
Octavia chuckles, "Glad to hear. It sounds like they're going to have a good time."
"Yeah. I know they will. I'm sure Amara and Aaron will have a great time at Lu Lu World," Roy says.
"Lu Lu World, huh. I remember Amara telling me about it. It's a lot better than Loo Loo Land," Octavia says.
"Really? Is it that bad?" Roy asks.
"Well, I had a bad experience with that robotic clown," Octavia says.
Roy says, "Yeah. Amara told me she had that experience as well."
"You have no idea," Octavia says.
Then asks, "So what do you wanna do?"
"Well, I am getting kind of hungry," Roy says.
"Sure. I can ask the servants if we can have some pancakes," Octavia says.
That makes Roy happy, "Yeah!"
Sometime later, Octavia and Roy are having some breakfast in the dining room.
"So Roy, how are you and Amara doing? I kind of heard Amara was in a bit of trouble," Octavia asks.
"Yeah. We kind of did. Blitz, Moxxie, and I were captured by those human agents who they call themselves, 'D.H.O.R.K.S'" Roy says.
Octavia chuckles and asks, "Dorks?"
"No. D.H.O.R.K.S. They have an H after D," Roy says.
"That has to be the lamest name I have ever heard," Octavia says.
"Yeah. It is lame. And well, from what Blitz said, Amara was not happy that I was caught as well," Roy says.
"That's understandable, she loves you too much, you're her little brother. I wouldn't be surprised she was planning to destroy them," Octavia says.
"Well, we did kill the entire organization, except for two. I think we would have been in deep trouble if your dad hadn't come along," Roy says.
"Yeah. Amara told me about that. She was beyond shock that my dad used his powers the way she saw it," Octavia says.
"I agree. He seems actually kind of nice. Never thought he had that side to him," Roy says.
"You have no idea," Octavia says.
Roy also laughs and says, "And your dad said that those who are demon obsessed lunatics are seen as kooks."
"That sounds about right," Octavia says.
And right on cue, Stolas comes walking in wearing his robe and bunny slippers.
He happily says, "Good morning Octavia, did you sleep well my owlet?"
Octavia turns her head, "Morning dad."
"Hi Stolas," Roy happily says.
"Hello Roy, I didn't expect to see you today," Stolas says, walking to the young Imp.
"Yeah. I'm actually watching him today while Amara is out," Octavia says.
"That sounds nice," Stolas happily says.
Then asks, "So, what are you planning on doing today?"
"I'm not really sure. It depends on what Roy wants to know," Octavia asks.
Then Roy says, "Well, I was thinking of practicing my rope tricks."
"Rope tricks?" Octavia says, confused.
A little later after breakfast, the two are outside and Roy is trying to perform his rope trick by twirling the lasso in the air, in a circle.
"Amara has been teaching me how to use a lasso, but I'm still working on it," Roy says.
"You seem to be good to me," Octavia says.
Roy smiles and says, "Thanks, but Amara is a lot better than me, so I have a lot to learn."
Just then, Roy accidentally lassos his ankles together and trips on the rope to the ground.
Octavia kneels to Roy and asks, "Are you okay?"
Roy sits up and says, "I'm fine. I still have a lot to learn."
"Hmm, you are getting the hang of it at least," Octavia replies.
Roy unties his ankles, "Yeah, but still working on that."
"So anything else you like to do?" Octavia asks.
"Uh, I'm not sure," Roy answers.
Octavia thinks for a bit and has an idea, "We could place some cards. I think my dad has a deck of cards we can do."
"Okay," Roy says.
Soon enough, the two are in Octavia's bedroom playing cards on her bed.
"So Roy, Amara told me that you've been at school for a while," Octavia replies.
"Yeah. I've made some good friends, and we were having a great time, except for this one student, but T-Bone has been keeping him away from us," Roy says.
"Glad to hear you have a friend who can defend you," Octavia says.
Then Roy asks, "So Octavia, what's it like to be a princess?"
"Hmm, that's difficult to say. There are some perks and drawbacks, especially when people want our money maybe," Octavia says.
"You mean like those Imps who attacked your dad when we were at Loo Loo Land?" Roy asks.
"That's right," Octavia replies with a nod.
Roy laughs and says, "Yeah. And Amara and Blitz showed those Imps who's boss. They were awesome."
"I can imagine. Amara is very talented, and strong. You must think really highly of Amara," Octavia says.
Roy nods his head, "I do. After my parents died, Amara and Aunt Eda raised me. They both make sure I'm well taken care of, even when I started school in town. Amara always picks me up, makes me lunch, and... I guess Amara really is the one who takes care of me, even though she's still hurt by what happened to mom and dad."
"I think it's understandable," Octavia replies.
Roy sighs, "I do like that Amara wants to help and make sure that I'm safe, but I worry about her sometimes when she gets too protective. I remember what happened when those kids at the mall attacked me. She was really angry and threatened to kill them if they didn't leave me alone."
"Sounds like Amara is very overprotective of you. But I think I can understand why, besides Eda, you're very important to her," Octavia says.
"You're right. I just want Amara to be happy and don't have to always worry about me. She seems to act more of a mom than a sister," Roy says.
"Well, she cooks, clean, does other chores, and also helps look after you," Octavia says.
Then sighs, "Kind of makes me wish I had a brother or sister like that."
"I guess it's understandable. I mean, you are an only child," Roy says.
But Octavia calmly says, "Well, I wasn't always an only child."
"Huh?" Roy says, confused.
Octavia becomes stunned by what she says. She drops her cards and covers her mouth in shock.
"What's wrong?" Roy asks.
"Well, I uh, sorry about that. I well... I never really talked about it since my parents told me, and well," Octavia says, reluctant.
Then turns to Roy, "Can you keep a secret, especially from Amara. I've always wanted to tell her for some time, especially this one specific information."
"I'll keep it a secret," Roy says with a smile.
"Thanks," Octavia says.
Then says, "You see, I wasn't always an only child. To be honest, I actually had a sister, a twin sister."
"You had a twin sister?" Roy says, confused.
"Yeah. Unfortunately, she well... disappeared a long time ago, and she still wasn't found. She would have been the same age as me and Amara if she was still alive," Octavia says.
"I'm sorry to hear it. I guess it must have been hard on your parents," Roy says.
"It was. I guess it's kind of also the reason why my dad can be overprotective of me at times. He didn't want to lose me like we lost my sister," Octavia says.
"How sad," Roy says.
Then asks, "Do you think your sister is still alive?"
"Well, my parents never truly gave up that she might still be out there, and part of me didn't want to give up either. My dad especially," Octavia explains.
"I see," Roy replies.
Then says, "But I'm sure your sister is out there and sure you'll find her. And I'm also sure Amara will be able to find her birth family. And I plan to support her no matter what happens."
Octavia smiles and pats Roy on the head, "Thanks Roy. And I think you're a great brother to Amara. The same as Amara is a great sister to you."
"Thank Octavia," Roy says.
And hugs Octavia, catching her by surprise, "I think you're a great friend too."
"Thanks," Octavia says, and hugs Roy.
The two soon continue to have the rest of the day of fun like cards, board games, and watch a few shows and movies.
Later in the night, Roy is fast asleep in Octavia's bed. Soon, she hears a knock on the door of her balcony. Octavia opens it to reveal Amara and Aaron.
"Hi Octavia," Amara says.
"Hey," Aaron says.
"Hi Amara. Hey Aaron. So how was your day out together?" Octavia replies with a smile.
"It actually went well, despite a few drawbacks, but our day out in Lu Lu World went really well," Amara says.
"Yeah. And we manage to have a few laughs," Aaron says.
Then Amara asks, "So how was you and Roy's day? I hope he hasn't been in too much trouble."
"Surprisingly, he's been very well behaved. He was no trouble at all," Octavia answers.
"I'm glad to hear it," Amara says, and walks to the bed.
She then picks up the sleeping Imp in her arms and walks to Octavia.
She then says, "Thank you for watching Roy for the day."
"It's no trouble. To be honest, I actually like having Roy here for the day. It's almost like having a little brother," Octavia says, and rubs Roy's head.
"Glad to see you two gotten alone. I hope you don't mind letting you babysit him again," Amara says.
Octavia chuckles and says, "I think I'll like that."
"Well we better get going home. Goodnight, Octavia," Amara says.
"Bye Octavia," Aaron says.
"Night," Octavia says.
Then closes the door to the balcony as Amara and Aaron fly off and land on the grounds in front of the mansion. Octavia yawns and walks to her bed. She then lays down, tucks herself in, and begins to sleep for the night. As surprising as it is, Octavia actually likes having Roy around, and hopes she and Amara can come again soon.
