Chapter 17: Almost Out

It didn’t take long before Striker and Jamie made it to where the portal was. There were two stone pillars with a stone circle in the middle. There was a stone bench where they sat.

“We made it,” Jamie commented.

“Yeah,” Striker nodded before he asked, “So, what will you do when you get back?”

“More than likely go back to what I do with seeing my friends like normal,” she answered then wondered, “What about you? What will you do?”

“Probably lay low until I get a new target to kill,” he shrugged.

“That reminds me. You’ve always been hired to kill someone. That’s why I asked if you thought any of them deserved it: you’re always hired to do something without having much say in it. You can decide what you want to do, not always let others decide for you,” Jamie mentioned.

He nodded before silence took over. Then Jamie realized something he said.

“Wait. You asked me what I was going to do when I got back,” she said.

“Yeah?” he nodded, not getting it yet.

“Does that you’re not going to kill me?” Jamie asked.

A look of realization appeared on Striker’s face before he sighed.

“Okay, look. You’ve made a lot of good points as I got to know ya and…I decided to not kill you,” Striker said.

Her eyes widened before she asked, “What brought this on?”

“Besides those points and how many times you’ve shown how much of a badass you are?” he smirked, making her giggle, then he continued while gently taking her hand, “To be honest, it was because…I—”

He was interrupted by the portal opening. They looked at each other before he readied his guns and she summoned her swords and wings. Then Stella came through the portal.

“Oh good. You’re still alive,” Stella smiled at Striker, looked at Jamie, then frowned, saying, “And so are you.”

“And you’re still bitchy. So I guess we’re all disappointed,” Jamie snapped, making Striker chuckle.

“You dare talk to me that way?!” Stella demanded.

“Oh yeah, I dare. You want me dead just because I’m close with Stolas and Via, mainly Stolas,” Jamie remarked.

“Which reminds me,” Stella started, turned back to Striker, then wondered, “Why isn’t she dead?”

“We had a temporary truce until we got out of here, but I’m making it a permanent truce,” Striker answered.

“So, she brainwashed you?” Stella asked angrily.

“No.  She just made me realize I don’t have to live this life. And I’m not gonna let you kill her,” Striker stated.

Jamie was touched by Striker’s words, but she kept her guard up in case Stella tried to do anything.

“Well, you’re useless. Best I take care of it myself,” Stella said.

She then pulled out her own gun and shot at Jamie. She managed to slice it in half, but one half of it got her in the head, making her fall down.

“JAMIE!” Striker yelled.

Then he was lassoed with blessed rope and pulled to Stella.

“And now I have to figure out what to do with you,” Stella said, thought about it, then decided, “You might as well remember your place before I end your pathetic life.”

“Not before I end yours first,” Striker growled.

“I doubt you can try, darling,” she smirked.

She then dragged him through the portal, leaving Jamie’s form behind.
