Chapter 20- Never Gonna Give You Up

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to everyone! Hope you are having/have had a wonderful meal with good friends and family. Yes some of what happened in this story is just my Thanksgiving experience seeing as how my family requires two Thanksgiving celebrations to facilitate how many we have.

Y/N hummed, helping out the three cooks for the day. His job was mainly to keep Cerberus out so they could actually have some food for the Thanksgiving dinner. He was singing when a knock at the door threw off the rhythm of everyone outside the kitchen. He whistled and in an instant, Cerberus had formed a small three-headed puppy and was suddenly wagging her tail as Y/N picked her up. The human walked towards the door holding his three-headed puppy as he wondered who was at the door. Looking through the peephole, he reeled back and nearly dropped the demon dog.

"Oh shit my mom is here."

That. One. Statement. It brought the whole house to a standstill. Well, the kitchen continued to work diligently though that's just how those three were. Everything was clean, so there were no worries about the condition of the house, but the idea of any imperfection scared them. Each one of them rushed around, trying to clean themselves up and look more presentable. Even Daisy was a little nervous, tapping her foot as she played with her hair while holding a hand mirror. Y/N stepped out to greet the woman.

"H-Hey, Mom! Whaaaat are you doing here?" he asked nervously, still holding Cerberus. Even if he had to deal with unforeseen consequences, he still had a job to do.

"What, I can't come to see my sons?" she asked, somewhat glaring at the young man.

"I-I didn't mean it like that! It's just that... you've never visited since we moved out!" The woman simply nodded.

"Yes, well, the company has kept me quite busy so I haven't had the time. Regardless, I assume you and your brother have been well?" she asked, noticing the dog.

"What the Hell is that mutt doing in your arms? And why does it have three heads? Is it some kind of freak you felt pity for and took in?" Cerberus barked and growled slightly, though it just came out as an adorable fury instead of the earth-trembling wrath of the guardian of the gates to Hell. Y/N was the one to defend Cerberus as a result.

"I think that's rich coming from the woman who jumped ship the moment Dad was put in the hospital. After all, only a freak would be able to do something as heartless as that," he said, glaring at his mother. The woman reeled back in shock, not expecting that kind of reaction.

"I had to get more hours at the company, or did you forget who paid for-"

"I paid for his hospital bills. I visited every day I had the time. I was there when he passed away. So don't you EVER disrespect my father like that!" His mother nodded, taking a moment to compose herself.

"I'm... sorry. I didn't mean it like that." Y/N just scoffed and opened the door, letting her inside.

"We were just about finished with making everything and setting the table for all of us when you showed up. You're lucky BJ still loves cooking as much as he does, otherwise we might not have had food for you," he said, the woman looking around at all the demons sitting in the living room. All of them started to sweat, worried she would either call them out and accuse them of attempting to corrupt him or give them a hard time for 'wearing costumes after Halloween'. Daisy and Lucifer especially were internally screaming as she stared them both down.

"I'm M/N, pleasure to meet you all," she said, sounding just as nervous and awkward as they all felt. That helped them all relax a little as Azazel introduced herself.

"Lovely to meet you Mrs. L/N, I'm Azazel." Zdrada was a little pissed. The one time everyone was intimidated, the angel was the first to pluck up the courage to introduce herself.

"It's just miss, now." The flat, uninterested tone only caused tensions to return.

"Food's ready, come get it!" Helltaker called, everyone eagerly shuffling through the kitchen with paper plates and plastic utensils. Given the level of cleaning expected with the cooking alone, it had been decided that disposable dishes were best for such an occasion. The TV was constantly being flipped between two games- the FIFA World Cup and an NCAA football game. Argentina vs Mexico and University of Kentucky vs University of Louisville respectively. Argentina made a few odd plays, though was still able to pull out a two/nothing victory. UofL ended up losing to UK in a 13 to 26 game. Interest in the game was vestigial at best, as conversations went on over it and the volume was so low you could barely hear it.

"I think it's time for me to leave. I've got a meeting tomorrow at 7AM. You have... quite the interesting household. Perhaps I should stop by more often," she said, smiling weakly at her sons.

"I'm sorry. I really am. Maybe... maybe we can be a family again."
