Staying in Japan's House
The Empire of Japan and The U.S. Colony Philippines
[[Philippines]]
"Philippines-san, I'm so sorry." Japan bows, in his own traditional way.
I ignored Japan, mad at him. I told him not to make a lot damage, he did the opposite.
This is Veneziano's friend?
"Actually, I pittied you. Because you told me about the demands China and America made, especially America because I know him. And you're at war, again. To think that you would use my house as a battefield." I told him, looking outside the door of Japan's house. Outside, there's a tree with pink leaves. It's beautiful.
"Philippines-san, why are you on America's side? Didn't he took control of your house? And I heard that he lied about granting you freedom from Spain."
"I am on his side, because I trust him. He's a good guy. And I admit, I like him more than Spain. And I like him more than you." I told him, looking at him in the eyes.
"And I hate you because America promised to make me be an independent country in a few years, he's telling the truth! And you suddenly appeared and interrupted that!" I glared.
I looked at myself. Why do I need to wear this loose clothe and do I really need to sit japanese style? My legs are painful. In America's house, I wear the typical clothes of americans. At Spain's... I wear a maid's uniform. But thanks to him, I have my own clothes, traditional clothes!
Speaking of Spain, how is he? And there's Romano...
"How's Veneziano?" I asked, no eye contact because I'm looking outside at the tree.
"Italy?" He says, quite shocked. "He's safe and doing well. Germany gives us survival lessons, especially about England."
"Arthur? Hn." England seems to be doing well. A strong nation until now, I'm jealous.
"I didn't know that you're close to Italy and England." Japan pointed out.
I didn't reply or say anything afterwards.
"Japan?" Someone yelled from the entrance door. That voice! It sounds familiar!
Japan went to open it and when I waited for them to come, I saw him with China. "China?!" I said in shock, standing up but ended tripping because I was stepping on the end of my clothes.
I held my head. "Why is Japan's clothes this long and loose?" I mumbled, feeling pain all over my front body parts.
"Philippines!" Japan rushes over, to be followed by China.
"Are you okay, aru?" China asks.
"I'm fine... I guess..." I replied, sitting japanese style.
"Maybe you need a shorter kimono..." Japan says.
Kimono? Is this what it's called?
"China, what are you doing here?" I asked.
"I was about to ask the same thing to you, aru." He said.
"I surrendered." I said with a hint of venom.
"What? But you have America, right? What happened, aru?" China asks.
"Answer my question, China. What are you doing here?" I repeated myself.
"Oh, I'm still waiting for Japan to give the demands, aru." China replies. Japan pales.
"Though, what happened? America is strong, why did you give up, aru?" China asks again.
I shrugged.
"I think Germany is a bad influence to you, aru." China says to Japan.
"Eh? Why is that?" Japan asks.
"Look at him now, dominating Europe. The nazis are scary. Maybe because of the lessons you take from him, you're now like this." China crosses his arms.
"But all that Germany teach is defending yoursrlf and training. Then he imagines a situation and he asks us what we would do." Japan explains.
"I believe in America." I said all out of a sudden.
"It's true that I rely much on him, but maybe it's because he spoiled and that we have a close relationship. I believe that he will fulfill his promise. I'm going to wait for the day he comes back and defeat you."

I'm sitting across Japan, sitting japanese style. I sipped a little tea and placed it down on the table. This table is too low, maybe lower than a coffee table.
"Philippines-san."
I gripped the cup of tea with both of my hands. I didn't make any eye contact, I just stared at the hot tea.
"I thought you were a nice guy, based from the stories I heard. But when we first met in person, you pointed your sword at me and then ordered your soldiers to capture me, tied anf blindfolded. I don't know which first encounter was the worst. England or you?" I sipped a little tea.
"I'm back, aru!" China comes in, without knocking or anything.
"For more demands?" I asked. He nodded.
"China-san, what if you come once a week and not everyday? It'll preserve your energy and you can notice and see the progress I make." Japan says politely.
"Hm... Philippines is here, so I don't mind, aru. She was so little back then!"
"You met her before, China-san?" Japan asks.
"I was her very first trading partner! It was during the time where there was no war and such, aru!" China replies.
"That's why I like to call you grandpa China." I bowed and grabbed his hand, pressing the back of his hand to my forehead. "Mano po."
(Mano comes from the spanish language, meaning "hand". Po is what filipino says to show respect and sound polite, especially used to the elderly. Putting it together is "Mano po" and in english it means "Your hand please". It's quite similar to hand kissing. This gesture is for asking the blessing of an elder)
"Did you know that Japan is also old too?" China says as I back away.
I just stared at Japan. "No. And I don't plan on asking for his blessing."
"What do you think of this?" China shows a stuff toy of a white cat with a bow on one ear.
"This is *******" he says.
"China, there is thing called copyright and..." Japan explains to him.

I watching television with Japan, saying nothing. Then, there are these shows similar to cartoons, but they seem more detailed.
"What are these kinds of shows called?" I asked Japan.
"Oh, um, they're called anime." Japan replies, flustered because I talked to him.
Anime, huh?
"Then... what is that beautiful pink tree called?" I asked again, pointing outside.
"They're called sakura, in english it's called cherry blossom."
"Oh... then what about the cute small trees that you carry around?"
"They're called bonsai."
"I noticed that your characters in writing are quite similar to China's. Also the clothes, they look similar to China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam." And I ended up asking a lot of questions.
I slowly opened up to him, but whenever he wears his black naval uniform... it brings up sad memories. "You're going out again to watch over the other nations that surrendered?" I asked.
He nods.
He left and I just sighed. This is war, what do you expect? Everything is still in chaos.
"Meooooow!" A calico cat growled and jumped inside the house through a window.
"Ah! Wait, I have pasta!" Italy jumps through the window. When he looked up, he saw me.
"Veneziano?!" I stood up in shock.
"Sorella!" He hugs me.
"You know that I side with the Allies, right?" I told him.
"I'm secretly cooperating with the allies because of my boss." He replies, cuddling the calico cat.
"Where's Romano?" I ask.
"Veh~ Back at the house." He replies.
"I miss you so much!" I hug Veneziano tightly.
"Philippines... make me pasta..." he says, teary-eyed.
"There's no right ingredients here..." I told him.
"I saw pretty japanese lady not too far from here. I'll go ask if she has any pasta!" And he leaves the house.
I sighed. Both Venezianio and Romano are childish and cute, but they flirt. I don't understand.

"You're good in handling a spear." Japan compliments me as I spun the spear around.
"When Spain didn't take me, I used to go hunting. A spear is my best weapon, then my fists!" I explained.
Out of nowhere, I hear a little girl laughing and chills went up my spine. Now that I remember, there were ton of creatures that came with Japan! Though it looks like he can't see them. England, why did you have to pass your powers to me?
"Philippines? Are you alright? You look pale." Japan worries.
"I'm okay. Maybe I should put this away." I placed back the spear to it's original place, hanging it horizontaly.
I sat across from Japan and it was awkwardly silent. We're still not out of the awkward atmosphere.
"You want tea?" He asks.
"Um... sure..." I replied. He hands over a cup of green tea.
I just can't find myself acting normal around him. I just kept on drinking tea. Hm, reminds me of England.
"By the way... what is this Mickey Mouse Money?" I showed him the money. "It doesn't have any value at all and all the items at the market are expensive."
"Oh, um..." he panics.
"I thought so. The same reason as Spain." I sighed tiredly. "Nevermind. I'm used to it." I threw the money away.
Spain and Japan are similar in some ways. They both are known for power and terror, but in person... they're the opposite. How is that possible?
I can't really find myself opening up to him. Even if I wanted to, I just see him as an enemy. Please, let the war end. I don't want to fight anymore, I want to be an independent nation.
And these reasons make me fight against Japan. I would sneak out of the house but his senses are just inhuman. Sometimes I would fight him face-to-face. But, one thing is sure. Each time we fight, we form a bond.
"Japan, why are you so good in drawing?" I asked him, crumpling my stick figure drawing.
"Yours gives off this 'cute' feeling." I added.
"Ah, you mean 'kawaii'. It's japanese for cute."
"Do you have any references for drawing?" I looked around the bookshelves and randomly pulled out books.
I came across a thin book and opened it. "Philippines, that's-" It's a book especially for men.
I just closed it and placed it back. "So you're that sort of person. I see..." I stared at him.
"U-Um... I can explain!"
"No need, you're a guy. It's normal. Though I don't see Spain, England, and America reading those kind of books."
"Why does this feel familiar?" I heard Japan mumble. So this happened before? But with whom?
As Japan signs papers and other stuff because of the war, I just continued trying to draw anime. "Aaaagh! This is so hard! I need a mango for inspiration!" I yelled in frustration as I crumpled my drawing.
"You somehow remind me of Germany."
"Because he doesn't know how to draw as well? And why do you love robots and such?" I asked.
"I find it amusing and intriguing."
"If the future is going to have robots... I don't know how to react if that happens." I sweatdropped.
