Chapter Three: Fun and Food

Haru was worried that Troy wasn't having any fun. He was awful quiet, but then again, he was pretty quiet when she was showing him around too.

She wasn't given much time to think about it when three figures suddenly came out of nowhere and started dragging her a little ways away from the group of teens.

Haru looked up to find her three best girl friends giving her strange looks. Arron looked extremely curious, whereas Brooke and Sophie looked extremely eager.

The clueless girl blinked up at them confused. "What is it..?" Her friends just glanced at each other and stared at her dumbly, but Sophie couldn't take it anymore as she threw her arms up in the air. "Oh come on! We wanna know about What's-his-name!"

Haru blinked again. "You mean Troy?" They nodded in unison. She thought a moment and then looked back at them. "He's quiet, reserved, and he's staying for bible study. Other than that, he's polite." They nodded, seemingly pleased with the answer for now.

"Don't forget that he's also the first one to see your mural." Added Sophie with a grin.

The grinning teenager glanced to Brooke for her expected reaction, who gasped at the comment, quickly looking to Haru for confirmation. "I-Is that true..?"

When Haru nodded, Brooke's countenance fell, and just as quickly rose into fury, a sharp spark in her green eyes. "I must take revenge..!"

Haru looked worriedly towards Brooke as she shook her fist in the air and then towards Sophie who was laughing her head off. Arron just patted Haru's head. "Don't worry, Soph is just having fun without us."

Haru smiled and giggled. "You and Mark are so alike, you said and did the same thing he did to me earlier."

Arron blinked and then smiled. "He would steal my Mo-Jo like that, wouldn't he?" They laughed as they made their way to the other side of the room to join the boys.

When Mike had called them all into the fellowship hall for dinner, Troy didn't realize how hungry he really was until he started to smell the delicious aroma. Once in the Fellowship Hall, he glanced back and saw Haru being dragged into the corner by her strange friends. He raised an eyebrow at them before turning back to the guys, somehow not surprised by the girl's weird behavior.

Mark was talking to Mike at the moment. There was another man standing there with them, he was about the same height as Mark, and they also looked similar, though the older man was a bit heavier than Mark. After hearing Mark address him as 'Dad', he understood why. Though still slightly annoyed by Mark's actions before, Troy has come to terms with the fact that he was one of Haru's friends and that he will treat him as such. After all, it's not like he hated the guy or anything like that.

It seemed that Tony had finally gotten his hat back and now both him and James were on their phones while leaning on the wall next to the long table of food, which was spaghetti and meatballs with brownies for dessert. Man, did that look good.

Mike was now jokingly flirting with his wife, who was ignoring him while carrying a tray of fruit out of the kitchen towards the other building, and seemed to gave up so he could call the boys from outside to come in if they wanted to eat. They raced inside in a few flat seconds. Impressive.

The shorter twin was first inside, followed by his brother and another boy. He was most likely the same age as the other two. He had dark brown short hair and matching brown eyes. He wore a plain red T-shirt with jean shorts and beat up brown flip-flops. He wasn't as tall as the ginger twin, but he was taller than Blake.

Blake laughed at the other two with pride. "I win! First in line!"

Ken pointed at him. "Nah-uh! You only get to be in front of me and Scott! Not first in line."

Blake waved his hand. "Whatever, it doesn't really matter anyways."

The other boy with them, Scott, started flailing. "Ah man! I can't believe I lost again!"

The twins glanced at each other and then to him. They then started to snicker evilly. "Let's go tell your sister!"

Scott made an "Ack!" noise and started flailing again. "No! Don't tell Brooke!" She did say she had a brother, though with his height, he wondered if he was the older or younger brother. Brooke herself looked at most fifteen.

"Don't tell Brooke what?" Brooke was standing right behind him now, proving to Troy that he was indeed much taller than her.

Scott made that strange noise of shock again as Blake answered 'for' him. "He lost the race again." Scott covered his head as if she was going to hit him, but she just sighed and patted his shoulder twice, as if saying 'there, there it's okay if you're lame' before walking over to where Arron and Mark were.

Scott's mouth dropped open dramatically. "She gave me pity!?" This only caused the twins to laugh at him.

Sophie went over to Tony and James, looking over their shoulders onto their phones, also getting her ipod out to play on.

Haru came over and leaned against the wall next to Troy. She smiled up at him. "Are you having fun?"

Troy was about to answer but Mike called everyone's attention. "Okay guys, I'm going to bless the food and then you can get in line."

As soon as he started praying, everyone immediately settled down and bowed their heads. Even most of the adults in the other churches Troy had been to didn't show that much respect during prayer. He was so surprised that by the time he remembered to put his own head down the prayer was over.

Everyone started back up again and made their way to the line. After getting their food, they all settled outside and ate on the picnic tables. Troy sat next to Haru and Brooke sat on his other side. Mark and Arron sat across from them. Sophie, Tony, and James sat on the table on their right and the three boys sat on the table to their left. The youth pastor stayed inside and ate with Mark's dad.

Troy suddenly had a pain in his upper arm and held it in reaction. "Ow!" He looked at Brooke, the seemingly proud culprit. "What the heck was that for?!"

She stuck her tongue out at him. "Because you irritate me."

He gawked at her. "Why?!" He rubbed his arm, though she was small, she had one heck of a fist. No wonder her brother acted the way he did. This was definitely going to bruise latter.

She shrugged her shoulders. "Because you saw Haru's mural before I did, and it irritates me."

He couldn't believe this. "That's not a good reason!" He looked to the other three for help but they were just eating and acted like this was normal.

Haru stopped eating momentarily and smiled at them happily. "You two are such good friends already!"

"No we're not!" The two said in unison, then after glaring at each other, looked away and started eating. Haru blinked, obviously confused, whereas Arron started laughing and Mark looked extremely amused.

They chatted in and out of stuffing their faces. Troy was munching on his brownie when Brooke, Arron and Mark went to throw their plates away along with everyone else. Haru went to do the same thing but stopped and looked towards him. "Are you having fun?" She looked a bit concerned.

Troy finished his brownie and nodded slightly with a smile, standing up next to her. "Yeah, I think I am." She smiled brightly at him, relieved.

He thought a moment. "Even though my arm hurts..."

She giggled at him. "Yeah, Brooke is like that."

He glanced at her. "Does she hit you?"

She shook her head. "No, but she does it to Arron and Mark a lot. Sophie will hit back so she stopped doing it to her."

He sighed. "There's something wrong with that girl. And why is she in the youth group? Isn't she like thirteen?"

Haru shook her head. "No, actually, she's turning eighteen in September."

Troy blinked in surprise, his eyes the size of saucepans, but he soon shook it off. "There is something really wrong with that girl..."

They both walked inside and threw their plates away before Mike called them to the long table in the middle of the room. "Come on guys and grab your bibles! Time to study."
