What Is Salem?
So guys I enjoyed making my theory about Cinder's redemption so much that I decided to write another. Also if you guys have any theories you want me to do then tell me. Anyone my theory today is what is Salem. Me and SkullPearlQueen agree on this. We think she's a human that's been corrupted by dust. So why do I think this. Well first let's start with the volume 4 intro, when we see Salem this is what we see.
There's an emphasis on her face? But why is that? I think it's emphasizing her forehead. There's a black jewel on her forehead that I believe is a dust crystal. Or at least a part of a dust crystal. I think that sometime in her life (because we know Salem is centuries of years old) Salem must've put that crystal in her head in order to get more power. I think that this is just another one of her many ways she's trying to get power. Along with stealing the relics and such. Now here's why I think it's a dust crystal as opposed to just a normal jewel. In the World of Remnant episode "Dust" one of the last things that the narrator says is "it is not uncommon to find individuals still practicing more archaic forms of dust manipulation. Such as weaving it into clothing or even fusing it directly with their own bodies."
Now why this may seem like any normal bit of information. There are three major things that make me believe that this is what Salem did to herself. The first is that Salem is the narrator of this World of Remnant episode so that already to me sends up a flag that she may know a lot about this (think about it Ozpin narrated the episode about the Maidens and he's the wizard in the story) The second is this, Salem mentions in this episode that there are two forms of archaic dust manipulation. Fusing it with your body and sewing it into clothing. And who do we know that has been shown fighting with her dust embedded clothes?
That's right, Cinder, someone who works for Salem. I think that it must've been Salem who taught Cinder how to weave dust into her clothes because she's very knowledgeable in the old ways Dust was used. The third and final reason is this. Right after we see the person imbedding dust in their body in the WOR episode we see this
The person's body appears to shatter and be in pieces and as we know Salem's appearance is very broken looking. So I think it's very possible that this shot is showing what happened to Salem all those years ago. Now whether this dust power is what gives her longevity or her power to control Grimm remains unknown. But I strongly think that this is what Salem is. A power hungry woman who fused her body with dust.
