You Don't Know Me, But I Know You
A very profound thought I came up with last night...
I was thinking, "if I could meet my hero, what would I say, if I had one thing to say to them?"
I started with the usual "thank you so much for everything you do," or "I love every movie you were in," or simple, flattering stuff like that.
Then I came up with the most perfect line, and I will explain.
You don't know me, but I know you.
At first glance, it seems like I'm a stalker, who watches them from the bushes, but once I got to thinking, it all made perfect sense.
You don't know me, but I know you.
At least for me, this one line means the world. I think back to every time I have been upset, and to no one's surprise, a fictional character has been there to guide me through it.
When I wanted to cry, Fred and George Weasley were there with a joke and some small fireworks to bring a little spark of light back to my life.
When I lost all my friends and felt out of place, The Doctor was there to tell me that weird is good, and I had a purpose to do good for this world.
"Every life is a big pile of good things and bad things. Good things don't necessarily soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't always spoil the good things or make them unimportant."
When I was angry, Castiel was there with his level-headed voice of reasoning, calming me down with a determined innocence, large wings encasing me in hope.
When I was failing my classes and falling behind, feeling suffocated under my work and bad grades, Sherlock Holmes, Sam Winchester, and Hermione Granger were there with words of wisdom. They helped guide my pencil, reminded me to focus, picked me up off the ground.
When I was getting into fights with my dad, Ted "Theodore" Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esquire were there putting their arms around me and telling me it was okay, they were the ones to cuddle in close that night when I was angry and almost in tears, pulling me to their chests and lulling me into calmness with their breathing.
When I wanted to give up writing my book and felt really stupid, Neo Anderson was there to tell me that I was not dumb, and I just had to try again.
When I wanted to stop writing, Chris Chambers came to me, reminding me not to give up. "It's like God gave you something, and said this is what we've got for you, try not to lose it..."
When I fell down, their hands were all held out for me to hold and get myself up.
When I want to give up on my dreams and throw in the towel, it's Keanu Reeves, it's Alex Winter, it's Misha Collins, it's Jared Padalecki, it's Jensen Ackles, Tom Hiddleston, it's Matt Smith, David Tennant, Benedict Cumberbatch, all telling me to keep going, reminding me that I can do it even when I don't want to.
My hero and I may have never met, but we are no strangers. They have held my hand through countless nights, their arms the ones that hold me while I sleep.
They may not know me, but I know them, probably better than they ever will.
Profound, isn't it??
Especially when you think, they didn't actually do anything. They gave you the strength to get through it yourself. <3
Just think about it for a while the next time someone tells you fandoms don't matter.
