Three

It had snowed last night. And to top it off, it was the weekend. The perfect time to get all cozy, and have your favourite coffee and a cake, muffin or something.

Becky and J's cafe, located somewhere in the middle of Lo-do, was buzzing with people. It was as if half the town was there. The scent of coffee was strong in the air, with the noise of the constant chit-chat and cups clattering with saucers. The tables were hardly empty. The workers were hardly resting. But, no one was complaining. They were all ready for it, they knew it was coming.

June sat behind her counter taking orders and sending them to the kitchen where Jennifer, or Jen as they knew the co-owner, was working with the others herself. Three of the workers had called in shifts, and those who were here, were covering for them.

This wasn't June's own shift too. She was covering for a girl who had caught a cold last night too. June was told by Becky herself that if she'd cover for the girl, June would get free muffins for a month. Sounded worth it at first, but she was tired now, as she had completed her shift before.

"Hello there." She said to a customer, a guy in a dark hoodie. "How can I help you?"

"A cappuccino," said the guy. Then added "please."

"That'll be..." June made the bill for him and he payed in cash, while he kept his dark head down. Then he left to the take away counter.

June turned her chair back to hide her face as she covered it with her palm to stifle a yawn. Then turned back to find a pretty lady on the other side of the shelf.

"Hello there." June said to the young looking woman. "How can I help you, ma'am?"

She had thick platinum blond hair, tied up in a ponytail and her forest green eyes where smiling.

"Two large double caffeine lattes, an English-tea, and three blueberry muffins." Said the young woman. June nodded with a smile and told her the money. The lady paid in cash too, and went to the next counter to collect her order.

For some reason, June found her self looking at her. She was pretty. And her ponytail, which reached her lower-back, swayed as her hips swayed from side to side too. For some reason, she kept looking as the lady took her coffee cups and the muffins to a booth by the doors.

There were two guys sitting there already. June wondered, as the lady slid between them, why hadn't they got up. She saw the lady put down the cups on the table and then—

She couldn't believe her eyes. Quickly she turned her head away and placed a hand on her cheek to hide any thing visible. One of the guys with the lady was the bookies-guy. How had she not noticed that guy before. He was sitting there, waiting for his... tea, June saw a moment later, his hair messed up and fingers drumming on the table.

Her face turned warm at the realisation of what she was doing. Why was she hiding from someone she didn't even know?

Because he knows you you idiot! Said her brain.

But June refused to listen to it and composed her self. And as if on cue, a long line of people appeared at the counter in front of her.

Later when she looked at the bookies guy's table, it was empty. He was long gone.

June didn't release till then that she had been holding a breath.
