Psychology

One day earlier still.

"You know that movie, You've Got Mail?" Alex wondered as the two friends rushed through the bustling hallways of Hudson High.

"That movie with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan?" Elia replied, dodging out of the way of a oncoming freshman.

"Yes that's the one! Well that got me wondering... How easy do you think it is to get someone to fall in love with you over the internet?" Alex asked.

"I don't know. Probably not that hard. Online dating is super popular and you can pretend to be an idealized version of yourself anyway." The dirty blond shrugged.

"Interesting, cause I had this idea in mind for an experiment-"

Elia halted and turned around in one swift motion. "No, you are not doing this. You're with Daniel now! You can not test this."

"I'm not going to! It's for a psychology project." A sly grin crept onto Alex's face and Elia knew that whatever she was going to say wasn't going to be good. "Actually I was going to dare you to help me with it."

"You were going to dare me?" Elia raised an eyebrow.

"Oh come on. Everyone knows you can't resist a dare. Remember that time you flashed the class?"

Elia glared at her friend. "I try not to."

"Just hear me out." Alex said as the two approached their home room class.

"Fine, but you owe me one." Elia sighed, entering the class.

"Okay so basically-"

"Hey, Elia!" A brunet boy interrupted as the two took their seats. Elia smiled at Finn Jackson. They didn't know each other very well, but were always friendly towards the other. They wouldn't call each other friends though. They were sort of forced to be around each other more as of late, due to their friend's most recent start of a relationship. Alex was Elia's best friend and Daniel was Finn's, well one of his any way. The only reason they were talking at all was because their psychology teacher had paired them up for their first major project of the year.

"What am I? Chopped liver?" Alex glared.

Finn smiled. "Sorry, Alex. How are you?"

"Better now." She huffed.

"So, Elia, do you want to work on our project after school?" Finn wondered.

The blonde nodded. "Sure, I did some research last night. I found a couple good sources."

"Great!" Finn grinned. "So, Alex, who are you working with?"

Alex frowned. "I'm stuck in a group of three. At least Daniel is in it, but I'd rather it just be us. I don't think Miles really wants to be a third wheel."

"Who does?" Finn asked.

"I understand his pain." Elia winced. "You two are rather insufferable."

"Hey!" Alex glared at her best friend.

"So what's your project?" Finn asked Alex.

"I was just asking Elia for help."

"I'll help if you want." Finn volunteered.

Alex quickly shook her head. "No thanks. It's not something you can help with. But thanks for the offer."

Finn shrugged and gave her a smile. "Okay, but if I can do anything to help let me know."

"I'll have my people call your people." Alex joked.

"I think you just want to make out with his people." Elia teased.

Alex smirked. "True,"

"You know," Finn grinned, "Michael is also my people. You want to make out with my people now?"

Alex stuck out her tongue in disgust and Elia threw her head back with laughter.

"No thanks. I'll just stick to kissing Daniel."

"What's this about kissing Daniel?" A familiar voice asked, as a dark haired boy strolled in the room. He was short and clearly of Asian decent. He gave Alex a dimpled smirk.

"Oh you know... How Alex loves sucking your face." Finn rolled his eyes as Daniel leaned down to give Alex a kiss.

"Get a room!" Elia exclaimed.

Finn grinned at her. She didn't notice... As usual. It was a normal occurrence for him. Over looked by his crush. Well that was high school.

"Alex!" A ball of energy, known as Cecily Hunter, sprinted across the room. "I just heard the news! You and Danny are official?"

Cecily was short, brunette haired, and the friendliest person you could ever meet. She had never met someone she didn't like, which explained why she was dating the tough-as-nails, seemingly scary loner Jessie Jason. Don't call him Jay J.

"Hi, Cecily." Another friend of Finn's mumbled. Michael Lock had it even worse than Finn. The kid was a nobody. Only a handful cared to pay attention to him.

Cecily smiled at him, giving a little wave, before turning her attention back to Alex.

The redhead nodded and put her arm around Daniel. "You betcha. I got this guy on lockdown. Sorry, ladies." Alex joked.

"Ugh I've never wanted class to start more." Elia groaned. Her friends had been going out for three days and already were insufferable. She couldn't imagine the honeymoon phase ever ending. But of course she was simply being overdramatic.

The bell rang. Ms. Harrison strolled in, just as Cecily scurried back to her seat.

"Settle down class. I know you're all excited for your semester projects, but it's a little too loud. We don't want the other classes to get jealous of how much fun we're having, do we?" Me. Harrison laughed. The class let out a chuckle. "Well, I never finished reading off the list of groups yesterday. After that please talk to your group about what you plan on doing."

The class nodded robotically. Ms. Harrison pulled out her list.

"Cecily Hunter and Michael Lock,"

Cecily flashed Michael a smile. His face grew bright red. Finn gave him a thumbs up.

"Jesse Jason with Charlotte Fenton,"

Jesse frowned and Charlie glared. They had dated only a year earlier. That was before Jesse started flirting with Cecily and before Charlie came out of the closet. They still weren't on great terms.

"Jamie Quinn and Troy Paris."

Troy shot Jamie an apologetic look and she shrugged.

"Please, get in your groups and discuss your ideas. Then approach me for acceptance." Ms. Harrison said, before freeing the students.

Elia turned to Finn, but Alex grabbed her arm.

"So, Elia, what I was thinking..." Alex said in such a low whisper that Finn couldn't even hear. "Is that we get a random guy's number. Text him, befriend him, and in one month we'll see if he's in love with you yet. You can get any guy to fall for you."

"Alex, this doesn't seem very well thought out..." Elia frowned.

"Please, Elia, what do you say? Be my lab rat?"

"Well when you put it that way," Elia rolled her eyes. She smiled. "Eh sure. Why not?"

What's the worst that could happen?
