If there's one thing I've learned over the years is that any chimera with cat in them is stubborn and annoying as hell. I let out a small sigh as I reached out and gently shook Charlotte. She was lying down, curled up in the snow with her tail wrapped around her waist.
I told her to lay down next to me so that she'd be warm.
Of course, she wouldn't listen to me.
I reached out and dragged her over to my side, placing her head in my lap. I could feel the slight tremors run through her body as she shivered in my arms. Carefully I pulled her small body closer as I allowed my shadows to spread over her body.
She's never been good in snowy or cold climates. Especially since she has dragon in her, I'm surprised that her stubbornness hasn't cost her, her life. This idiot is so cold that she can't even put her scales up.
I froze as an odd crackling sound entered my ears. I frowned glancing at the now dwindling fire before I turned my attention to the right as the crackling became louder. Over the smell of fresh snow that surrounded us outside, I could smell the scent of damp mold and old blood. In fact, whatever was headed towards us seemed to smell like an old, damp basement.
"What in the world is that?" I whispered.
I scanned the massive expanse of snow carefully and soon I could see moving red in a large white being, as it skulked toward us.
I bit my lip and glanced down at Charlotte, then I placed her down carefully in the snow as I rose to my feet. The markings that covered Charlotte's skin glowed brightly and for a moment her eyes opened slightly, she glanced up at me. Her eyes were glazed over as though she was still sleeping.
"Just stay here, for now, Charlotte, I'll take care of this," I reassured her gently.
As if she heard me, she stared at me before blinking once and returning to a sound sleep.
I took a deep breath and held up my hand. Almost instantly my shadows cloaked it, turning my hand into a giant black monster of a hand with black talons.
"All right you beast, let's see how much of a monster you are," I said as a smirk covered my face.
As it got closer I could actually see what the creature was, a giant feral spider demon.
It had multiple eyes embedded in its head that were large and bloated with odd red bulbs sticking to the underside of its head. These odd fungi like tendrils grew out of the top of the thing's bulbous head three on each side. Dark red cracks seemed to be spread all over its body. It turned its head toward me and let out a loud roar.
Behind me, I could sense Charlotte waking up.
Dammit!
"I-is that what I think it is!" She exclaimed through chattering teeth.
I let out a sigh and glanced at her over my shoulder. "Just stay there Charlotte! I'll take care of this," I assured her.
For a moment Charlotte was silent, then she spoke, her teeth still chattering as she shivered. "All right, I'll wait over here."
And the devil was once again accepted by his angel brethren.
As the spider demon galloped toward me, I simply reached out. I grabbed one of its legs as it tried to run toward Charlotte. I lifted the creature up as it struggled and writhed in my grip, then I flung the spider demon off to the side. It bounced off of the snow and ice before it dug its spindly legs into the ground.
The demon roared before it began leaping over to me. However when I reached out to grab it again one of its stick-like legs struck my face, the sharp tip leaving a large scratch on my cheek.
I looked up at the creature, glaring lividly at its multiple eyes. Then I leaped up into the air, landing on the demon's back I pushed the disgusting monstrosity down to the ground by its neck. Then a feeling of pure euphoria and power claimed me as I began to drain the creature of its demonic energy.
I shuddered to let out a small huff as the spider demon struggled and screamed. Its body began to wither, becoming horrible and rotten. Its arms fell off as though it was a doll with leprosy.
Bright red pus-filled holes opened up along its body before it slumped forward under the weight of its bulk. The snow beneath it melted as though its body was acid. Eventually, the demon looked like nothing more than an extremely moldy apple. I let out a brief chuckle as my shadows dispersed and I basked in the glow of the demonic energy.
After a few moments, Charlotte's voice broke through my cloud of pleasure.
"Ivo! I-I feel really weird," she whispered.
I looked back at her to see her swaying in place, her eyes glazed over as she stared into the blizzard.
"Charlotte? Can you look at me?" I asked as I snapped my fingers in front of her face.
For a brief moment, she looked at me her eyes focusing only on my hand for a few moments. Her markings flared up brightly and flashed bright blue for a moment, then her legs folded underneath her. Her eyes closed and breathing rapidly.
I caught her, holding her close as I moved her. I jumped slightly as an arrow buried itself in the snow at my feet.
A second later a familiar female voice entered my ears, and it was a voice I hadn't heard in years.
"My, my Ivo is that really you?"
I looked up meeting the woman's eyes and next to her stood a male vessel that I wasn't familiar with.
"Hello to you too Delilah," I sighed as I stared at her.
Delilah was the complete opposite of me in both appearance and actions. Most people that saw her usually mistook her for an albino snow elf. She was a pale woman with curved ears and piercing light blue eyes with red pupils that always seemed to judge people.
She usually hated to wear clothing so the only thing that adorned her small figure was a white open robe. At the moment she had light pink lilies decorating her white hair. Every time I'd met her, even when I was back home she seemed to have a new contract with a new vessel. I'd only had two, a very old friend and now Charlotte, although in terms of length I stayed with my contracts for many years.
I glanced at her new vessel which was another man, who currently wore a large coat and snow goggles.
Even though I couldn't see him I could smell the mixed scent of multiple animals.
He's a Chimera too.
"So very interesting Ivo, it appears that your vessel isn't doing too well. Is she about to kick the bucket?" Delilah asked as she moved closer.
I glare at her. "Of course not, you dumb fur rag," I snapped.
Delilah chuckled and stepped back a bit. "Oh Ivo, it's nice to see that you remained the same. Still a very angry and arrogant Therion."
For a moment Delilah was silent then she spoke this time to her vessel. "Let's allow them to come back to the village. Ivo's vessel is a chimera after all. So the village is perfect for her she'll fit right in, Atlas.¨
Her vessel, Atlas nodded. "Alright, the village, after all, is made for the chimera."
Then without another word he turned and began walking leaving me to follow.
