One thing I've learned throughout my whole life is that I can easily blend into a crowd and be ignored if I wanted to. At this point, I valued it heavily as a good skill especially considering Delilah's personality.
I have the fact that my contract markings can be hidden with incredible ease. Charlotte on the other hand...
I glanced at Charlotte, at the moment Ivo wasn't standing next to her however, that didn't prevent her from standing out considering that her contract markings literally covered half of her body.
Strangely though she was just calmly staring at the werewolves that stood in front of the Aveon members the slight panic gone from her face.
"Ivo?" She said softly. In less than a second, he appeared in his transparent form at her side.
"What is it Charlotte?" He asked looking a bit bored.
Why are they so calm when they'll easily be found out?
"Can humans see you?" Charlotte asked softly.
"No, if they could your cell would've been embedded with more heavy duty spells. However, with Kessel running the Aveon at the moment, I can not be sure that he hasn't created something so that humans could see creatures like us." He told her.
A small smile spread across Charlotte's face as she reached out and held Ivo's left hand for a brief moment. "Very interesting...why don't you take over for a bit I'm full and tired."
A smirk spread over Ivo's face as he suddenly disappeared, Charlotte yawned for a moment before her eyes closed and her head dropped down.
It's so subtle for her almost like she's thinking or something.
When Charlotte opened her eyes I could see and feel that Ivo had taken over her body. Behind her eyes was a strange almost forbidden knowledge that wasn't there before.
"What in the world?" Melody whispered as she took a step back from Charlotte.
Ivo smiled at her twisting Charlotte's face into a small smug smirk. He raised one of her fingers up to Charlotte's lips and softly shushed Melody before calmly turning to face the werewolf that was heading our way.
The moment it got close it began sniffing around heading directly for Charlotte. I watched with great interest as the werewolf sniffed her left hand which was covered in the contract marking, Ivo lifted her hand only slightly so that it would brush against the werewolf's head ever so slightly.
I noticed a brief wisp of black demonic energy seep off of Charlotte's hand and into the werewolf's skull. For a brief moment, the creature's eyes went wide in horror before it's body relaxed and it walked the other way.
"What the- how did you do that?" I whispered.
Ivo scowled at me through Charlotte. "It's something I learned from an old friend whose long gone," he whispered.
He smirked as he watched the werewolf return to the group of Aveon members who were asking other chimera questions. "Tonight when they leave this village that creature will go berserk and tear it's human handlers to shreds. My demonic energy can drive creatures weaker than me insane when focused properly after all, the brain always has small amounts of electricity firing in it. And demonic energy can short circuit and break electronics. After that they basically become an uncontrollable ticking time bomb, it truly is an amazing thing," he explained.
"What were you going to do if it had noticed you before you did that?" I asked.
"I would have eaten it, of course, leaving not a single drop of blood behind," he answered almost instantly.
Charlotte's eyes closed and her body relaxed slightly, suddenly she jumped slightly and opened her eyes. "Ivo's such a constant bastard. I told him that I was full and tired," she pouted flicking out her tail.
"Both of you follow me to Vel's home right now," Melody growled.
My eyes went wide as I recognized her tone.
I've only heard that tone once before...about Caesar.
Without saying a word I started following her keeping my head down as I followed the path by memory. I could hear Charlotte following behind me her steps almost silent.
As we approached the house I sniffed the air slightly.
Vel must be talking to those Aveon humans, she is the village leader after all. I wonder if she's finally tired of dealing with me.
Melody opened the door then turned to Charlotte and I. "Get inside, both of you," she grumbled.
The moment we were inside Melody turned and punched me. I stumbled back gripping my cheek as she glared up at me. "You just can't resist causing trouble, can you. And for you to do it today of all days...it's like your spitting on Caesar's grave!" She shouted.
I frowned and stared at her for a moment before I spoke. "I love you mom," I whispered.
Melody's eyes went wide and her posture grew ridged before she gritted her teeth and looked at me. "Shut up!" She growled as she hit me again.
I lost my balance and fell to the floor my wings spread out behind me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Charlotte take a step forward but Ivo held her back shaking his head and whispering something to her.
"Stop that," Melody hissed as she loomed over me.
"I love you mom," I repeated.
She roared the sound shaking the room and making my ears ring. Seconds later she was on top of me clawing at my face.
Even as pain bloomed throughout my whole face I didn't fight back. Instead, I reached up and wrapped her in a hug. "I still love you mom," I told her softly.
"Shut up you don't-you don't have the right to say that!" She shouted her voice wavering as her shoulders began to shake.
"I-I just want my two baby boys back!" She cried as tears ran rapidly down her face.
"I just want our family to be whole again. But with C-Caesar gone. And you broke like this, I just don't know what to do anymore! I just want both of you back! Y-you, look exactly like him! What am I supposed to do?" she sobbed openly.
I let out a sigh as I rubbed her back.
"Mom, I'm not broken. Even when Caesar was here I was happy," I told her gently.
She looked at me with wide eyes as if she was truly seeing me for the first time in a long time. She reached out and carefully wiped some of the blood of my face.
"My adorable son, I'm so sorry. I'm so very, very sorry," she whispered.
I sat up as Melody stood up. "I'll be okay. It'll heal as quickly as usual," I assured her.
She looked at me sadly. "I-I need to visit Caesar...I haven't done so in a very long time." She walked toward the door a sad smile on her face.
I smiled at her. "I've been making sure he's happy. I brought him his favorite flowers today." She stopped in the doorway when I spoke, but shot me a small smile before leaving.
I let out a sigh of relief once she was gone. Charlotte knelt in front of me with a grim frown on her face. "That was a disgusting thing to see," she grumbled as she examined my face.
"Huh? What do you mean?" I asked her in confusion.
Charlotte sighed and shook her head. "You're a stronger person than me in this regard. Truthfully I was ready to kill her the first time she hit you."
I frowned as I stared at her. "My mother isn't the best parent in the world but I don't think she needs to be killed for-"
I froze as I noticed the steely look in Charlotte's eyes. "Let's just say that sometimes it should be celebrated when a parent dies before a child," she told me in a cold tone.
She just completely shut down.
Delilah knelt in front of me and began healing me. Charlotte turned and began to walk away but I reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"Wait-"
She looked back at me and spoke, "I'll be leaving the village tomorrow morning the moment the sun is up. If you want to come along them come, I won't be standing around waiting for you if you decide not to," she said softly.
I let out another sigh as I laid back on the floor my wounds healed by Delilah.
Big brother I kept my promise, I still love our mom no matter what.
