That Movie Cursed Me

I sighed as I sat down on the couch, coffee mug in hand. As I drank my coffee, I thought about all the things that happened last night.

Alex said he loved me. Like, he straight-up said he loved me. I'm not sure what to think, honestly. I mean, he was totally drunk when he said it. He probably doesn't even remember.

There's also the whole Lucy and Ross thing. I doubt either remember what went down. At least, I hope they don't.

"Mornin'," I said as Lucy trudged into the room. She grunted in response. I sat my coffee down on the coffee table. Lucy sat beside me and immediately grabbed my coffee. "Um, I was drinking that."

"Yeah, well, I need it more," she said, her voice hoarse.

"I guess so," I laughed. I leaned back into the couch and went back to my thoughts.

"What's wrong?" Lucy asked. I looked up at her.

"What do you mean?"

"There's obviously something bothering you."

"Well," I sighed. "Alex kind of, uh, said he loved me last night."

"He did? Lena, that's amazing," Lucy smiled. The coffee seemed to have helped her out a lot.

"Not really," I mumbled. "He was pretty drunk at the time."

"So? That doesn't mean he didn't mean it."

"It kinda does, Luce. I doubt he remembers it."

"Whatever, Lulu. I can tell he loves you and I've only known him a day," Lucy scoffed. "Oh, and speaking of last night... Did I do anything embarrassing?"

"No," I lied. "What do you remember?"

"Very little..."

"Actually, now that I think about it, there was this one thing..."

"What? What did I do?"

"Uh, I dunno if I should tell you. I should see if Ross remembers first," I teased.

Lucy's eyes widened and she covered her mouth with her hand.

"Lena," she mumbled. "What are you talking about?"

"It's no big deal, Lucy. It was just-" I was cut off by the front door opening. I looked over as Trott and Ross were walking toward us. Ross looked okay despite the fact he was trashed last night.

"Hey," they greeted. I waved at them but Lucy was still fixated on what I'd said.

"Lena, I demand you finish your sentence," she said.

"Hold your horses," I said. I turned back to the guys. "Hey, Ross?"

"Yeah?"  Ross asked.

"What do you remember from last night?"

"Not a lot. Why?"

"Oh, I dunno. So I guess you don't remember making out with Lucy outside the apartments, then."

Both Lucy and Ross looked really surprised. Lucy buried her head in her hands while Ross just giggled nervously.

"Whoa whoa whoa," Trott exclaimed. "That happened?"

"Yep, after you went inside," I smiled. "I guess drunk Ross has mad game, yo."

"Apparently," Trott said, laughing.

"Um, let's change the subject," Ross said in attempt to calm the laughs.

"Yes, please," Lucy begged as she lifted her head back up.

"Oh yeah, we actually had a reason for coming over, didn't we?" Trott asked Ross. Ross nodded.

"There's something up with Smith," Trott said bluntly. I started to panic.

"Wha- what do you mean?" I asked.

"He seems really sick," Ross answered. "It's really weird. He's usually pretty okay after he goes out drinking."

"What do you mean by sick?" Lucy asked.

"Not really sure. Just sick," Ross said.

"We have to go to YogTowers now," Trott said. "Could you check up on him and stuff?"

"Yeah, absolutely," I said. Obviously, I'm gonna tend to my sick boyfriend.

"Great," Trott said. "Well we're gonna go now. Bye."

Lucy and I waved goodbye to the guys as they left. I turned to Lucy.

"I'm gonna go check on Alex," I said, standing up.

"Okay," Lucy mumbled.

I walked over to the front door and was about to walk out when I remembered I was still in my pajamas. I closed the door and walked back to my room. I rummaged through my closet before finding a floral skater dress. I quickly pulled it on and fixed my hair slightly. I put on some sandals before going back to the door, actually leaving this time.

"Alex," I said softly as I walked into his room. He was asleep on his bed and he looked paler than usual. I walked over toward him and as I got closer, I noticed that his eyes were open. I knelt down beside his bed and put my hand on his arm.

"Hey, Len," he said weakly. I smiled at him.

"How you feeling?"

"Oh, just dandy," he said sarcastically.

"I see this sickness hasn't affected your sense of humor," I joked.

"Well I'm glad. I'd have a hard time keeping you 'round if a little bit of sickness drains away my personality," he laughed weakly.

"As if," I chuckled.

"Lena?"

"Hm?"

"Could you go get me some medicine? It's on the counter in the kitchen."

"Absolutely," I said as I stood up. I went to the kitchen and got him medicine and a glass of water.

"Here," I said as I handed them to him. He slowly sat up before taking the medicine and the glass from me.

"Thanks," he said before taking the medicine. He took a drink of water then sat the glass on the bedside table. "Geez, a grown man having someone take care of him... I'm such a pu-"

"Hey," I interrupted. "You know I hate that word."

"Wimp," he corrected.

"Much better," I laughed. "And its not wimpy. Its the girlfriend-ly thing to do."

"Yeah, yeah," he chuckled.

Alex and I talked for a while. The conversations got increasingly crazy, as the medicine was making him drowsy.

"No, I mean that America is basically Spain, you know?" Alex asked.

"Okay," I giggled. "You are officially out of it."

I guess now its time for the conversation I've been avoiding: last night. I've waited until he was at the edge of sleep to talk about it because if things go south, he likely won't remember.

"Alex?" I asked, grabbing his hand.

"Yeah?"

"Do you remember last night?" I asked carefully.

He paused for a minute before answering.

"No."

"Well, um, last night you told me you loved me..."

I looked at him expectantly. He had a goofy smile on his face. The heck is that supposed to mean?

"I did?" he asked, seemingly happy.

"Yeah."

"That's cool because you know what? I meant it..."

My heart began to beat quickly and a huge smile spread on my face. So, it was real. He really loves me.

"Alex, I-" I stopped talking when I noticed he was asleep. It can wait until later, I suppose.

I looked down at his hand that I was still holding. It seems unreal to think that someone, other than family, loves me.

I stood up from my position beside his bed, releasing his hand.

"I'll be back later," I whispered despite the fact he was asleep. I quietly left his apartment went back over to my own.

"He okay?" Lucy asked as I sat beside her on the couch. I still had a giant smile on my face.

"Pretty delirious but yeah," I answered.

"What's got you so happy, Miss Smiley?"

"I talked to him about last night and he told me he meant it," I said happily.

"Yay!" Lucy celebrated. "I told you so, didn't I?"

"Yeah, yeah you did," I giggled.

"So did you say it back?"

"I would've had he not fallen asleep."

"Wow, typical man." she laughed. "Falling asleep before you can tell them how much you care."

"Speaking of caring: you and Ross, eh?" I waggled my eyebrows at her.

"Oh God," she exclaimed, her face growing red. "Don't mention it."

"Oh I'm gonna mention it!"

"Ugh," she groaned.

"Do you like him? Ross, I mean."

"He's cute and stuff but... I don't really think he likes me."

"Course he does," I smiled. "Y'all did make out."

"We both were really drunk so that doesn't really count."

"Details, details," I mumbled.

"Even if I liked him and he liked me," she sighed. "There's always the hatters, you know?"

"Uh, yeah I know!" I laughed. "I'm already going through that. Remember the picture?"

"How could I forget? It was adorable!"

"It was pretty cute," I admitted. "But anyways, I'm sure there were loads of responses."

"You mean you haven't checked them?"

"No, I'm a bit scared to, honestly."

"Then I will," Lucy said as she pulled her phone out. Her and I went throught the pictures responses together. Most of them were nice and cute but there was the occasional rude tweet.

"Its nice to know Alena is someone's OTP," I smiled. "See Lucy? There's always gonna be haters but the fans are usually so nice."

"Yeah, I guess so..."

So I guess Loss is a thing now...

"Aw crap!" I exclaimed as I remembered Eva.

"What?" Lucy asked.

"I may or may not have a friend who has a crush on Ross," I answered awkwardly. "And said friend may or may not have called dibs."

"Which friend is this?" she asked.

"Her name is Eva Cochrane."

"Well Eva Cochrane has some competition, doesn't she?"

"Guess so," I laughed. Geez, who knew Ross was such a ladies man...

Lucy and I talked for a bit longer before we started re-watching the first season of American Horror Story. In the middle of the third episode, my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Len," Alex said on the other side of the phone.

"Oh hey Alex! How you doing?" I asked.

"A lot better. I'm actually going to head to YogTowers now."

"Really? Are you sure?"

"Yeah. I'm sure the guys could use my help anyways."

"Well, if you're sure..."

"I am. Love you, Lena."

"I l-"

I gave Lucy a confused face as I checked what happened to the phone. He hung up on me, apparently.

"Well, alright then," I huffed.

"What?" Lucy asked.

"He hung up before I said 'I love you'," I replied.

"Rude," Lucy mumbled. We continued to watch the show.

After two more episodes, my phone rang again. This time, it was Trott instead of Alex.

"What's up, Trott?" I asked over the phone.

"Lena, we're on our way to the hospital," Trott said.

"What?!" I exclaimed. I motioned for Lucy to pause the TV.

"Yeah, Smith came by earlier and said he was feeling better. About ten minutes ago, he tried to stand from his desk and fainted."

"Oh my God! Is he okay?"

"Well he's conscious now but just barely."

"I'm on my way. Bye." I said as I hung up, tears started to well up in my eyes. I called Eva.

"Eva, I need you to take me to the hospital." I said once she answered.

"What? Why?" she questioned.

"Something's wrong with Alex. Please get here as soon as you can."

"I'm on my way."

I hung up the the phone and looked at Lucy. The tears were now flowing freely.

"What happened?" Lucy asked as she put her hand on my arm comfortingly.

"Alex fainted at work! They're taking him to the hospital right now," I said as I cried. "Eva is taking us to the hospital.

"Is he okay?"

"I don't know!" I cried out.

"Sh sh sh," she soothed as she pulled me into a hug. "He's fine."

"No he isn't! He isn't okay! He's barely conscious!" I mumbled.

"He'll be just fine, okay? We'll get to the hospital and see that he's just fine."

I didn't say anything else but continued to cry. I was still in tears when Eva got here.

/////

I ran to Ross and Trott who were in the hospital's waiting room.

"Where is he?" I questioned. "I need to see him."

"The doctor won't let us see him right now," Trott said rather calmly.

"I need to see him!" I demanded again. Ross put his hands on both my shoulders.

"You can't, Lena. The doctors are taking tests right now," Ross said in attempt to soothe me. It didn't work.

"No no no," I argued. "I need to see him now."

"Lena, calm down," Lucy said as she and Eva walked over to us. "You have to wait."

I was still freaking as Lucy and Eva led me to a chair. They forced me to sit down.

A nurse started to walk over to our little group. She looked at Trott and Ross.

"You two are the ones who came with Mr. Smith, yeah?" she asked.

"Yeah," Ross answered.

"Well, you guys can see him now," she said. I jumped up from my seat.

"What about me?" I asked.

"I'm sorry, ma'am, you'll have to wait. Only two people in the room at once."

"You don't understand. I-"

"I'll just go in and see him really quick and then I'll come back," Ross interrupted. I slowly nodded as I sat back in the chair again.

About five minutes later, Ross came back. I quickly made my way to Alex's room.

"Yeah, I know right?" I heard Alex say as I stepped into the room. Alex looked over at me from the hospital bed.

"I'm gonna leave you guys to talk," Trott said awkwardly. The second he left the room, I rushed over to Alex and pulled him into a hug.

"Are you okay? What did the doctor say?" I asked, slightly crying.

"He said that both the sickness and the fainting were caused by stress but if you ask me, that movie cursed me," he said. I laughed lightly and wiped tears from my eyes.

"When you coming home?" I asked.

"They say tomorrow," he answered I nodded slowly and grabbed his hand. The room's door opened.

"Ma'am, you should leave. Mr. Smith needs rest," the nurse from earlier said. I nodded at her and then turned back to Alex.

"I love you, Alex," I said before giving him a kiss and exiting the room.
