Bedroom Eyes
"Why don't you want a cat?" I asked as I leaned closer to the bedroom mirror, a tube of mascara in my right hand. I started to apply mascara to my left eye.
"Cats are f**king b*stards," Alex responded from his position on our bed. He was laying down letting Kim, his gecko, run around on his hand and stomach. "And it would eat Kim."
"It would not," I scoffed. I put the mascara wand back in the tube and put it back in the bathroom. "They could be best pals!"
I sat next to him and watched Kim crawl around. I wasn't a huge fan of her. I don't dislike her, but her eyes kind of freak me out.
"I don't think so, Len. Cats are f**king evil. I've no idea why you like them so much."
"They are so cute! Just like you," I said sweetly.
"Oh, f**k off," Alex laughed. I laughed too. I stood up from the bed and looked to him expectantly.
"So, how do I look?" I asked, smoothing down my black skater skirt.
"I like your top. Praise the hand!" Alex smiled. I was wearing the Hat Films' silver Hand of Freedom T-shirt.
"Thanks, but," I sat back down, "about this cat-"
"Lena, I said I don't want one," he groaned. He stood and walked over to Kim's terrarium, placing her gently inside.
"But-"
"Lena," he said sternly.
"You're acting like my father!" I exclaimed with a light laugh.
"Well, they do call me daddy Smith," he said, shooting me a wink.
"No! No, no, no, no," I shook my head. "Don't say that ever again."
"Then stop asking about a cat," he chuckled.
"But I want one!" I whined, throwing my self onto my back on the bed. "I'll do anything if you'll let me have one!"
"Anything?"
I sat up and looked at him. He was totally shooting me bedroom eyes. I grimaced.
"Except that."
"I know, I know," he said. "I was only kidding."
"Hoping, more like," I scoffed. He shrugged and extended a hand to me, which I took. He helped me stand and smiled down at me.
"Of course I was hoping," he said, still holding my hand. He began to fiddle with the ring on my left hand with his forefinger. "You're quite the looker, Lena Eloise."
"Mhm, I'm sure," I said with a playful eye roll.
"You know, I've never been one for hugs," he began, "but I'll always make an exception for you."
"Always?"
"Always."
He pulled me into a hug and I had a moment realisation.
"Oh God, we just quoted The Fault in Our Stars," I said sadly, my voice muffled from his chest. "We're so gross."
"It wasn't on purpose," he laughed. I could feel his chest vibrating from the magnificent sound of his laughter. It was outrageously comforting.
"Do you suppose we could go to Ikea today?" I asked, pulling myself from him. He gave me a confused look.
"What for?"
"I kind of want a vanity," I replied. "Actually, quite badly."
"What's wrong with doing your makeup in the bathroom?"
"That's where people use the toilet, Alex," I scoffed. "Can you imagine all the nasty germs that are floating around in there, getting all over my brushes and things? I read an article that said it's very unhygienic."
"Okay, fine," he said, "let's go."
I gave a cheer and walked to the closet to get my shoes. I pulled out a pair of red boots, slid them on, and went to join Alex in the living room. He had his keys in hand and was swinging them around his finger. He had put on a jacket.
"Len, put on a jacket," he said. "This is England, not California."
"Okay, dad," I responded sarcastically. I turned around and went back into the bedroom to find a jacket.
"Listen to your daddy!" Alex called to me. I cringed.
"Stop!" I cried out, laughing. "That's so awful."
"I feel empowered!"
"Alex, please," I chuckled, walking back into the room, this time donning a white jacket. "I hate to kinkshame you, but I really gotta on this one."
"How dare you," Alex joked. I just rolled my eyes and opened the door.
When I stepped out into the hall, I tripped over a large box. Alex began dying in laughter as a result.
"Mail's here," he managed to say. I stood up, embarrassed.
"You don't f**king say," I snapped, rubbing my injured hip.
While I was busy being embarrassed, Alex checked the address.
"It's from Pasadena," he said. "Your Aunt Loren and Ricky."
"Really?" I asked, forgetting about the slight pain. I got down on my knees to inspect the box. "It is. I wonder what it is. I wasn't expecting a package."
"You won't expect this package, either," Alex said through gritted teeth.
"Really?" I gave him a flat look. I laughed and shook my head before returning my attention to the box. I stood."Let's take it in."
I attempted to pick it up, but I was too weak. Alex laughed and called me a baby before picking up the box with ease. I followed him inside and shut the door behind me.
He placed the box on the sofa. "Get me a box cutter, will you?"
I was about to walk off to get one when he stopped me, "Be careful, it's sharp."
"Alex, I'm not a baby," I laughed. I went into the kitchen and brought back a miniature Sting box cutter. "Here."
He cut through the tape and opened up the box. Inside, the only things that were visible were a note and lilac tissue paper covering the rest of the box. Alex handed me the note.
"'Lena and Alex,'. Oh how sweet, she addressed us both!" I smiled. I continued reading. "'It's come to my attention that things in England must be very different from things in California. So, Lena, I decided to send you some of your favorite treats from America. Bear in mind that I don't know what you have available in England. If I've sent something you can get there, I'm sorry. Anyways, enjoy! Love, Loren."
"Oh awesome," Alex said. He reached to open it.
"Wait," I said. He stopped. "The Hats should open this for a video."
"Like a mail video?"
"Yeah it'd be cute," I grinned.
"Okay sure," Alex nodded. "We can open it tomorrow on camera. Want to join us?
"Uh," I said, slightly taken aback. "I guess. It wouldn't be weird, would it?"
"Nah."
"Okay, sure," I said. "Now, let's go get a vanity."
"Be careful stepping out, Len," Alex warned. "There could be another box."
"Shush," I said in mock anger.

"Is this one good?" Alex asked, pointing at a very large white vanity.
"Hm," I looked carefully at it. "No, it's way too big."
"Oddly enough, that's also what they say about me," Alex said nonchalantly. A woman that was walking by snorted in laughter upon hearing that.
"Alex, not in the store," I scolded, despite having laughed as well.
"Sorry, mum," he chuckled. He pointed at a smaller vanity. "That looks good."
"It does," I agreed, "but it's white and the other furniture in our bedroom is black. It would look weird."
"Ugh," Alex groaned. "I'm this close to complaining on Twitter."
"Do it," I sassed back, looking over the vanities. Surprisingly, I was having a hard time finding a simple black vanity. I laughed and added, "When the bae is too picky about finding a vanity."
"You really are," Alex huffed. "Literally no one is going to see it except us. Who cares if it looks good."
"I do," I said. Just then, I spotted a nice sized black vanity. "Lucky for you, I just found one."

After we put the box in the back, we got into the car and started home.
"So, wanted to ask you something," Alex said, his eyes focused on the road.
"Oh, Alex, I will marry you!" I exclaimed in a high pitched voice.
"What the h*ll are you talking about?" Alex asked. "I already proposed."
"I know, I was being silly. What did you want to say?"
"We, meaning the some Yogs and Hat Films are going to America here soon, right?"
"Yes, I'm aware. Where exactly are you going?"
"L.A.," Alex responded, cracking a smile.
"Oh my gosh!" I squealed. "That's in California. I'm from there!"
"I know," he laughed. "That's why I was gonna ask if you'd like to go with us. We'll be staying a bit longer than the others, for vacation."
"Dude, you don't even have to ask," I scoffed. "I'm so down."
"I figured as much, yeah," he grinned.
We talked some more about it, ironed out a few details and such. Once we got home, Alex called Ross over and the two of them got to work on building my vanity.
Lucy came over to watch. Her stomach had gotten a bit bigger. She was about four months along.
"Say hi to Twitter!" I giggled, snapping a photo of the two working.
"You could help," Alex suggested.
"I could," I shrugged, typing out a caption for the picture, "but I'd just get in the way. Plus, you're nearly done."
"Ross," Lucy addressed.
"Yes, dear?" Ross asked as he fiddled with two vanity bits.
"How long will you guys be gone? I need to know how much to pack."
"You're not going far, love. Just to Kim's. If you forget something, she could just take you to get it," Ross responded.
"I suppose."
Not too long after, the boys finished the vanity and set it in Alex and I's bedroom. I put the purple stool I'd also purchased from Ikea under it so I could sit. I also moved all of my makeup to it.
Alex and I said goodbye to Lucy and Ross and then made our way to the bedroom. I changed into one of Alex's T-shirts and some shorts in the bathroom. When I walked out, Alex did a wolf whistle at me.
"Nice legs," he said with a wink.
"Thanks, I don't work out," I joked. I climbed into bed next to him. He turned to face me and wrapped his arms around me.
"So, I was thinking," Alex began. He placed his hand on hip, underneath the waistband of the shorts.
"What about?" I inquired.
"Maybe we can get a cat," he said softly.
"Really?" I asked hopefully. I yawned.
"Sure," he confirmed. "I reckon it'd make you happy, and that would make me happy. On one condition though."
"Alex, I love you, I really do, but I'm not having s-"
"No, no, it's not that," he interrupted. I felt very relieved. "I know you don't want that. My condition is that we get another gecko."
"Oh," I said with a light giggle. "We can do that."
"Cool," he smiled. "I'm thinking Kim needs her Kanye."
"Wow, you're such a dork," I teased.
"F**k off, Len," he said sarcastically. I laughed and put my head on his shoulder, ready for sleep.

Hope you enjoyed! Another chapter soon! (Also, it's very late right now as I'm proofreading this so sorry for any errors).
Alsooo the ladies up in the media are Lena and Lucy. Lena is on the left and Lucy is on the right. Lucy's hair is lighter and more ginger than that woman though. And neither of them have the freckles. And Lena doesn't have bangs. But other than that, they're pretty spot on to what I imagined.
