Dig a Hole (4)
The world is a small place once one gets used to it, yet, it is a home to billions of beings...
-Dead Hellfire, Mortem
Mortem wanted to dig a hole and bury himself in it for several years. 'Actually, I'm gonna do just that. Now, where is a shovel or... something. Maybe get a coffin too so people will think I'm dead and close myself off until the seal's broken.' He has never liked being humiliated.
'Ah, whatever. I'll just act like everything is perfectly fine and make sure they don't find out about this...' he paced around before going to his room, noticing that he was either slower or everything turned bigger. Usually, he would think the latter but now, it was probably the former. He could only lament to himself for not choosing to do this somewhere else. The vampires here were all insane... except the Angry Albino guy... he only thought this because he was the only one who hasn't drank from him.
Time skip
Guess where they were back to?
School. Of course, the eight-people group had their own differing opinions, with most thinking it was really annoying. Mortem grumbled to himself and decided to do the same thing he did last time he was here. Skip the entirety of it on the roof. Maybe he can train there and not break anything or anyone? And the assignments from school? They can go and burn. He'll just ace all of them when the finals come or someone decides to try and bully him because of it or something.
Yui looked over the grumbling boy but decided to do nothing, as she found that she couldn't understand him a lot. She simply walked to class, hoping that none of the brothers would try to drink her blood... like last time. Which was literally only yesterday.
Mortem decided to leave the Sakamaki brothers before any of them try anything on him. Especially now when he didn't want them to know his strength was sealed and the fact that he wasn't allowed to actually hurt them... hopefully they haven't sensed it yet or something like that. 'Damn them. Especially the Sadist Glasses Guy.'
Anyways, what he truly didn't expect was for Angry Al—I mean, Subaru, to have gotten into a fight with two half-vampires. Especially in a hallway in the school where everybody can see. But he was the delinquent of the school, what could you expect? Mortem watched as they threw curses at each other... in front of a class, wondering why the teachers aren't trying to stop them and where the other Sakamaki brothers are.
"Oi, don't you think it's rude to be bullying a loner when you have double the people?" He asked, still not getting used to school and the fact that this is normal... most probably because he never actually went to school and was taught everything by people or he found out himself. Subaru seemed stunned that he stood up for him, but then pushed it away, snapping at him. "Stay out of this, Dead."
One of the half-vampires, a boy with rather long and messy blonde hair and light blue eyes frowned, thinking out loud, "Hey, isn't it rude to call someone dead?"
"He told us to call him that, ask him why."
The two half-vampires—the other one had long brown hair and brown eyes—looked at Mortem questioningly. Said boy shrugged and asked. "Why are you getting in a fight here anyways? If you want to kill each other, do it outside. Blood is really hard to clean, y'know?"
The three were speechless. Subaru felt like he's knowing a new side of Mortem and wondered why he never saw this before? The two half-vampires wondered how the Sakamaki-s got acquainted with someone like this. It was really not from the last two sentences but the first. Does he not know the animosity between their two families? Yep. He hasn't even heard of them.
Mortem frowned and wondered why kids these days like fighting so much. Then again, he has met some that are complete battle maniacs and died because of it... but right now wasn't the time to think of them.
"What is going on here?" A cold voice asked, Mortem looked over to see Reiji walking towards the three. The two half-vampires glared and hissed. "Sakamaki."
"Mukami."
'Why the hell do these guys hate each other so much? The f*ck am I missing?!' Mortem grumbled to himself and was about to leave when a certain Glasses Guy reached out and held his shoulder. "You will not be skipping school again."
"Why the hell would you guys bring me to a school anyways?! I'm supposed to be stabilizing myself but so far the only training I've done is the poison thing!...plus I'm too lazy to go back to the mansion from all the way here." 'If only mom gave me the "Nag" skill to annoy the sh*t out of him.' Mortem seriously wanted to slap Reiji's face off when he felt a breath on his neck. "Oi! Isn't it you that usually tells people to do this sh*t in their rooms?" He pulled himself away and quickly disappeared, appearing at the school roof.
Reiji stared at the hand that had touched Mortem, wondering what came over him. '...what did he do to me?' He decided to apologize later when he finds him, since the bell had just rung. Subaru frowned, also wondering what happened just now. Reiji was definitely not one to have lost composure to things like that.
Mortem glared at the air, wondering just what the hell just happened. From the time he has observed the so-called "Glasses Guy", he already concluded that he would never try to do something like that in public. So what just happened? He then felt something and waved at air, "I don't feel like repelling assassins today, so you can go back to that bratty master of yours and be grateful you returned with your life. Next time, do actual investigation on your victim... I guess."
The air around him twisted and warped a little until it became someone clad in black, holding a saber in his hands. He started the fight with a thrust of the weapon, stomping down and gathering force to try and pierce through Mortem in one attack.
Mortem, who was currently in a rather odd mood, felt his emotions fluctuate again and glared at the assassin with killing intent. The assassin could only swallow the shiver that ran through his spine and continue as the force had been shot and couldn't be held back anymore. Mortem held out his hand and swiped several times on what seemed like around the saber nonchalantly, deciding that he should just vent out his frustration on this person who tried to kill him.
The saber held in the assassin's hands fell to many pieces, if you were to look at it then you could see the edges of those pieces were bright red. He was shocked at the sudden turn of events and couldn't react fast enough to respond to Mortem's second attack, which had him on the ground in mere seconds.
And so, for the rest of the morning, no one dared to come on the roof because of the sound of someone beating someone else up while shouting random things in frustration. Those random things were like, "I told you to leave and stop trying to kill me, but no~! You decide to aggravate me even more and do what you were told to by that sh*tty master of yours who should know by now that every single one of their assassins are f*cking useless! And they're getting even more trashy too! Like you, you are the worst assassin that I have ever met and that's saying something seeing as even mother can't keep track of how many people want me damned to hell! Actually, you should be grateful! I'm teaching you a lesson like this and didn't kill you the second I f*cking sensed you. If you want to blame someone for this blame your master and the sadists that put me in such a horrible mood! Oi! Are you listening?! F*cking useless trash! No, trash can still be used to crush and recycle... you're worse than trash! You can't even take a small beating?!"
By the time he had said that, the assassin was barely holding onto his life. Poor guy would never know that why he was given such a painful death was because Mortem wanted to vent everything out and that he came at a good time. If he knew that his "bratty master" only wanted Mortem dead because he didn't want to do a small favor for him, he would definitely beat them til their parents don't recognize them.
Mortem sighed once he was done and felt rather refreshed, not bothering with the other vampiric presence he felt on the roof after finishing the assassin and taking out an odd spherical thing from inside his body. He quietly took out his knife and stabbed it with the dark grey blade. The knife lightly glowed a pale blue and absorbed the odd thing, leaving no evidence that the thing had even been taken.
"Oi, come out here, I can feel you're there, Angry Albino." Mortem could only smirk to himself when he saw Subaru coming into the open and staring at the horrific sight of the bloody pulp that used to be... something... a human perhaps? Who knows? They also couldn't care less anyways. "You have assassins going after you apparently."
"Yep. Why are you here?"
"Checked it out after the screaming started. Didn't expect it to be you beating someone up... is this going to happen often?"
"I only do it when I need to vent. Most times, it's against a human-sized rag doll. I think this is the first time I did it to an assassin and not the master of the assassin themselves."
"...why do people even want you dead, Dead?"
"Haha. I thought it would be obvious considering how I talk and all. Especially when they try to force me into marriage or something like that. It's really annoying and one of the reasons I can—ah, wait. Sorry, I ranted."
"...mm. By the way...,"
"Hm?"
"Why were you holding back so much even though you were gonna kill him anyways?"
"...I—uh..., wanted to make it last longer! Hehe... yeah...," Mortem scratched his head and looked down, not wanting to meet the other's gaze anymore at this point. 'I can't let them know... or else it might as well be hell for me.' "You are a horrible liar."
"Well, I don't need to tell lies often! Besides, if I don't want to tell anyone then I won't, what are you going to do about it?" Mortem huffed and crossed his arms, looking away. "I'm gonna go get several cleaning things to take care of the mess up here." Subaru narrowed his eyes and appeared in front of the door leading inside the building, leaning on it. "Why don't you tell me the truth before you do anything else? I won't tell my brothers."
"If you found out yourself then I'm pretty sure they will also find out themselves. My lips are completely sealed from anything."
"It was related to your strength? They won't find that unless they fight you themselves or something like that happens. You also stopped yourself before blubbering something out and this evening in the gardens, you were very... upset about something."
"...mother gave me a list of rules to follow. Not hurting, torturing or killing any of you were three of said rules. Don't tempt me to break them." Mortem glared at the vampire, only now realizing that he seriously needed to control his emotions more so it doesn't affect his mental state. 'I guess everyone around me was right about that. Control...' Subaru clenched his fists, also not used to controlling his anger much. "Are you threatening me?"
"To put it bluntly, yes."
"You—!" Subaru couldn't help it and launched a punch. What he wouldn't expect was for it to actually hit Mortem and send him several steps backward.
Mortem could only sigh as he heard his own mind say. 'Well. Sh*t. Game over for me.'
