Forty-Four: The Almost People

"I HATE YOU, I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID!" I heard my own voice before I recognized my surroundings, limbs flailing about in order to defend myself.

"Arghh!" My eyes opened to Rory's pained face, his hands reaching up to clutch his nose. "Oi, Doctor, she punched me!" He cried, Amy, standing next to him checking out his nose.

Confusion ate at me when the Doctor or one of the two Doctor's was crouched by my side scanning me with his sonic. "Okay!" He smiled at the readings. "Effects are gone if we don't go outside or around anywhere with too much acidic activity, you'll be fine." The Doctor helped me to my feet, my shoulders slumping when I saw we were somewhere completely different from last time.

"How long have I been out?" I groaned, seeing the other Doctor watching a few feet away with a worried look.

"Oh, I don't know, about thirty minutes?" The Doctor who wasn't standing by me answered, I wasn't sure who was the original and who was the clone anymore.

I jumped seeing as alarms were going off, the entire facility flashing red, and from what I could tell both the Gangers and original humans working together. Though only Jimmy's Ganger was here, the real Jimmy nowhere to be seen.

"Okay, long story short..." I looked down at the Doctor who was by me, seeing it was the original Doctor based on his beat-up converse. "Ganger's and we are working together, the entire island's about to blow, and Jimmy and Jennifer are dead." He told me, with what he was trying to make as a reassuring smile. "We're also running for our lives right now, so c'mon!" He grabbed my hand, forcing me to run everyone else following us.

Looking behind to see what we were running from, my eyes widened seeing some sort of flesh monster thing chasing us. "Holy shit! What is that!"

"Jennifer's Ganger, it kind of went psycho!" Amy informed me as we ran through a door, both Dicken and his Ganger shutting it behind us. "You missed quite a bit!"

We all stopped after the door, both Doctor's looking for a way out.

"This door doesn't lock!" The Ganger Dicken shouted, his original self-throwing the door open.

"No, but the one farther one does!" We all watched, as the original Dicken ran toward a door farther down that we had already passed by.

My heart pounded when the real Dicken struggled in closing that door, glancing at us with a 'sorry' expression.

"NO!" His Ganger shouted as the original Dicken went outside the door, closing it from the outside sacrificing himself in the process.

Amy's hand went to her mouth, as Rory rubbed her shoulders comfortingly. I looked at the door sadly, thankful for Dicken's sacrifice.

"Rory, you're back!" My eyes widened, finally acknowledging the fact that we had Rory back. "Nice to see you bud!" I clasped him on the back, Rory watching me unsure.

"Nice to see you too," He looked at me oddly, eyes moving to both the Doctor's who were watching me. "Is she still high?"

Both ignored his question, the original Doctor's focus on something else, the original Doctor helping keep the door closed with clone Cleaves.

A rumbling happened from overhead caused me to look up, the original Doctor grinning happily. "Here she comes!" He cheered, myself screaming when the TARDIS suddenly fell through with a bunch of dirt.

"Oh, she does like to make an entrance." The clone smiled brightly, both Doctor's gazing at the TARDIS with a fondness.

"Okay," The clone moved to hold the doors open for everyone. "Get in!" Buzzer, Ganger Jimmy, and the original Cleaves ran inside, Amy helping keep the doors closed from the Flesh monster with the clone Doctor.

Rory and I stayed outside the TARDIS waiting for Amy and the original Doctor.

"Come, now's our chance!" Amy tried to pull the original away from the door, the Doctor staying put shaking his head.

"I have to stay, hold this door closed. Give you time to dematerialize." I scowled at his answer, marching forward to help pull the original Doctor away from the door.

"No," I told him forcefully, the Doctor fighting me with a struggle as I tried pulling him toward the TARDIS. "What happens to you if you stay, oh, I know the answer. You'll die, so c'mon." Amy nodded in agreeance with me.

"Both of you can survive this," She told him, looking into his eyes desperately, the clone Doctor taking this time to walk over to us. "I mean there has to be a way."

"Or perhaps you think I should stay instead, Mr. Smith." I looked to the clone in confusion, shaking my head at him.

"What are you on about?" I asked, eyeing the flashing lights, heart pounding as the island trembled a sheer sign it was about to explode.

"No, of course not!" Amy was the first to answer moving away from the original Doctor and toward the clone. "But, we've..." She pointed between me and her. "Have flown with this man, Effie married him. You are amazing and yeah, I misjudged you. But you are not him, I'm sorry." Amy told him, myself groaning once I saw the clone Doctor's look, it was the look the Doctor got when he knew something we didn't.

"Oh, let me guess, you swapped shoes?" I grunted, both Doctor's giving me soft smiles. "Oh! You, idiots!" I scowled, now seeing that who I thought was the original Doctor is the clone, and the one who I thought was the clone is the original.

So beat up converse is clone Doctor, and boots is actually the original Doctor.

"Yep," The clone Doctor holding the door grinned, him and Ganger Cleaves beginning to struggle to keep the Flesh monster at bay.

"I'm the real Doctor." The original Doctor smiled, myself looking to where my hands were trying to pull the clone Doctor away from the door.

"And, I'm the Flesh." He grinned at me.

"No," Amy said in disbelief, looking between the two. "You guys swapped!"

"I'm the original Doctor, Amy, we had to know if we were truly the same. It was important, vital we learn about the Flesh. We tried doing it through both your eyes..." He pointed between Amy and I. "But since you, Effie, were knocked out practically the entire time, we could only do it through Amy's." He told us, Amy pausing before turning and engulfing the clone Doctor in a hug.

I watched as they whispered things in the other's ear, myself looking to the original Doctor in order to give Amy and the clone as much privacy as I could at the moment.

The original was looking at me as if I was the biggest mystery to him. Shaking his head, he reached out stroking my cheek. "What were you dreaming about?" He quirked a knowing brow, my face going paperwhite at his question unsure of how to answer.

Luckily, I didn't need to answer as Amy pulled away from the clone myself turning to the clone knowing I didn't have much time to say my goodbyes to him. Though I knew the Doctor would not forget this question, and he'd be asking me about later.

What do I tell him? 'Oh, I was just dreaming about the time the curse my psychotic family put me under broke.'

Ha.
       Ha.
               Ha.

No! I think not!

Ignoring my own thoughts, for now, I pulled the clone Doctor in for arguably the most passionate kiss I've ever given him. It lasted for just a few seconds, my hands running through his locks, the Doctor's hands holding me close to him.

We broke apart a moment later, panting heavily as I rested my forehead against him. Looking up into his eyes, I sucked in a breath.

"I love you..." I panted, the Doctor immediately answering.

"I love you too."

"No," I shook my head. "You don't understand, you need to know this. I love you so much, more than you could imagine. You're my everything and it hurts me to see you go like this." I whimpered, the Doctor pulling me in for another kiss.

"I can imagine because I love you that much too. Since this is most likely going to be the last time you ever see this version of me, I want you to realize that both of us love you so much. More than we've ever loved anything in our entire lives, and you can completely trust us. I know you're scared to tell me whatever it is you've wanted to, but don't be. Because I could never judge you or leave you." He said it all in one breath, tears beginning to swim in my eyes, breath coming out choked.

Something inside me clicked at his words. A fiery determination taking place within my very soul, a choice made in haste. It was time.

Lightly, I went on my toes pretending as if I was going to kiss his cheek for the sake of the original Doctor not noticing what I was about to whisper in his clone's ear. Clutching the clone closer, my breath fanned over his ear.

"Doctor, think about it...." I whispered ever so gently in his ear, just loud enough for the clone to hear only. "I'm about seven degrees over the average human temperature on a normal basis, I know an awful lot about Norse mythology, and everytime you search the name Effie Quill nothing comes up." The Doctor's arms tightened around me, his breath hitching when he realized I was about to tell him my darkest secret.

"I'm scared to tell you the truth because I know once I do nothing will ever be the same. You'll think me as nothing but a monster and you'll never be able to bear looking me in the eyes again." I could feel the Doctor's anticipation, and his desperation to pull me away enough so that he could look me in the eyes.

But he knew he couldn't because of his original self-standing right there, the clone knew I wouldn't tell him if the real Doctor could also hear me. So he remained hugging me tightly.

"Doctor, I told you I was nineteen, but I was lying. I also told you I was born on Earth, and taken by Ravagers. That was a lie too. My mother isn't dead, but I've never met her, and I know exactly who my father is because I was raised by him, my twin brother and I were raised by him. I have lied to you about my entire life and my past because I was too scared to tell you the truth because people tend to judge when they hear my name. Not the name I gave you because that too was a lie, but my real name, my birth name."

"I suppose I lied about everything because it was the first time that I didn't have a past which defined me. I lied about a lot, Doctor, but I never once lied about how I feel about you, I never lied about how much I love you."

"But for once, for the first time, I am going to tell you the truth about who I am. I am not nineteen years old, I am six-hundred twenty-seven. I was not born on Earth to a mother who died, I was born on Muspelheim, one of the two products of a Goddess who was raped by a demon. And my name is not Effie Quill, my name is Persephone Surturson and I am the Goddess of Fire."

It was like slow-motion, the clone Doctor stopping all movement as I pulled away. Finally, at a distance that I could gauge his reaction, I studied how big his eyes were. His face was frozen in shock as he looked to me in a seemingly new light.

I wasn't sure whether or not I liked how he was looking at me. The Doctor was no doubt aware of the name Persephone Surturson, the legend of the ripper twins must have hit his ear at some point in his long life.

So many questions and emotions flickered through his eyes at lightning speed. Anger, happiness, sadness, lust, everything was there. From the side, the real Doctor was watching his clone and I with a questionable look, myself quickly stepping forward leaving one last kiss on the clone's mouth.

"Goodbye, my Timelord." I gave him a sad smile, the Doctor's mouth falling open and closed alike to a fish as the real Doctor and I ran into the TARDIS where everyone was already waiting.

The Doctor was quick to pilot us out of here, actually allowing me to help in flying as it would be faster. Once we were a safe distance away, the Doctor sighed looking lost in thought leaning against the console.

Amy placed a hand on his arm causing him to look up, placing a smile on his face.

"Uh, the energy will stabilize the Gangers for good. They're people now." The Doctor looked to everyone who was a Ganger, the only ones who weren't being Buzzer and Cleaves.

Cleaves looked at the Doctor sadly, motioning to her head. "What happens to me? I still have a blood clot in my head."

The Doctor grinned brightly throwing her a vial of red liquid, making me scrunch my nose in distaste. "That looks disgusting, Timelord."

"Oh, it is!" The Doctor cheered but gave Cleaves a pointed look. "But, it will get rid of your blood clot."

I smiled at his attitude, taking a seat in the railing chair knowing the questions were going to be asked soon. I furrowed my brows when the Doctor pulled out a red balloon from literally nowhere.

"Okay, seriously, how the hell do you do that?" I asked him, the Doctor only winking.

"That's for me to know, and for you to never find out." He sighed, gazing at the red balloon happily. "Happy endings, everyone loves them."

Once the Doctor dropped Jimmy off to his son's house, he took us to an army press conference for Cleaves and Dicken.

"It was nice meeting you, Effie." Cleaves shook my hand, Dicken nodding to me as the Doctor, Amy, and Rory escorted them out of the TARDIS, myself choosing to stay inside.

I knew once we were by ourselves, the Doctor would be throwing questions like rapid fire. Yes, I told his clone, but I never actually did get to see how he reacted since we were so short on time. The day the Doctor found out was just around the corner, and I was getting antsy.

It had only been a few minutes before the Doctor was walking back in followed by Amy groaning in pain clutching her stomach and Rory comforting her. The Doctor whose expression was blank hopped up by the console, leaving Amy and Rory standing a few feet away by the doors.

"What happened?" I rushed down the steps, going on Amy's other side rubbing her back as she clutched her abdomen breathing heavy while bent over.

"Doctor!" Rory yelled worry for Amy etched on his face. "What is happening to my wife!" He demanded, Amy, breathing heavily standing up straight lightly nudging to two of us off her

"I'm alright."  She grunted, myself looking to the Doctor awaiting an answer as to what was happening to my friend.

"Contractions." He answered vaguely, my eyes widening when I thought of the pregnancy test he kept doing on her.

It never gave a definite answer, and even if she was it would be too early for her to give birth, Hell, her stomach was still flat, she wasn't even showing!

"Contractions?" Rory narrowed his eyes, shaking his head.

"She's going into labor." The Doctor stated, my hands going to rub Amy's back soothingly.

Rory immediately hugged Amy who was shaking her head. "No, it's not possible, I'm not even..." She trailed off before another wave of pain hit her causing her to cry out.

I continued rubbing her back, looking to the Doctor fiercely. "Elaborate, right now," I demanded, the Doctor spinning around to face us.

"Elaborate what? The birds and the bees? You should know how a baby's conceived, and Amy is having a baby. Right now." The Doctor snapped, frustrated about everything himself.

Narrowing my eyes, not liking his snappy attitude, I delivered a hell of a lot more sass back to him. "Does she look pregnant to you!" I reeled, throwing my arms in the air. "Even if she was, there is no possible way she is far enough along to go into labor!"

"On the contrary, my love." The Doctor rubbed his forehead with his hand, eyes moving to Amy who was in pain. "She's been pregnant awhile now. I needed to see the Flesh in its early days, that's why I scanned it. That's why we were there in the first place." He explained with a humorless chuckle.

"Odin's name," I mutter under my breath, realization dawning on me as I looked to Amy. "Coming here wasn't an accident, was it?" I rhetorically asked, stroking Amy's back. "This isn't Amy," I said out loud, earning scared looks from both the Ponds.

"Doctor..." Amy cried, seeing the Doctor's sad expression as he looked down unable to meet her gaze.

"Stand away from her, both of you." The Doctor ordered, Rory and I made no move to do so.

"Why?" Rory shook his head, standing in front of Amy. "No! And, why?" He was scared, myself licking my lips at the Doctor's expression which went hard.

"Given what we've learned, I'll be as humane as I can. But I need to this, and you need to stand away!" He demanded, voice full of thunder as he glared at both Rory and me.

Knowing the Doctor was right, I conceded gently taking Rory's wrist forcing us to move away from Amy. Amy watched us, begging us not to leave her.

Turning to the Doctor, her lip trembled eyes wide in terror. "Doctor..." Her voice was low and hoarse, sounding like she was about to cry. "I am frightened, I am properly, properly scared." Tears welled up in my eyes at Amy's state, hand shaking as I held into Rory's hand thumb running over his knuckles in an attempt of comforting him.

"Don't be. Hold on." The Doctor made his way down the steps, stopping just in front of Amy, looking at her softly. "We're coming for you, I swear. Whatever happens, however hard, however far, we will find you." He promised, stroking her cheek gently.

My heart hurt for the Doctor. I knew him and Amy were best friends, Amy was the first face this generation of him saw, they had a special bond between them. Not only that, but the Doctor was extremely protective of everyone he loved, he cherished us. And whenever we were messed with or threatened, it was likely one of the last things someone would ever do.

"I'm right here." Amy grabbed his hand, looking into his eyes desperately.

The Doctor gazed at her sadly, shaking his head. "No, you're not." He took a step back. "You haven't been here for a long, long time." He took out his sonic screwdriver making Rory jump, Amy shaking her head.

"No." She cried, the Doctor closing his eyes as he pressed a button causing Amy to suddenly melt into a white puddle of Flesh.

Someone had taken her and replaced her with a Flesh doppelganger sometime ago. The real Amy had somehow been driving this avatar, but her real body was somewhere else and pregnant. Not only was she pregnant, but she was giving birth right at this very moment.

Rory finally broke letting out a sob, shaking his head. "I don't understand!" He cried, running his hands through his hair. "How did this happen?"

The Doctor who had his head bent, leaning against the railing spoke low. "I think it was when we were hunting the silence, they kidnapped her because they knew she was pregnant. I don't why, but they took her. We will find her though." The Doctor promised, Rory not saying anything simply nodding numbly before walking out of the console room.

I watched him go sadly, looking to the Doctor who was sucking away any tears threatening to fall.

"Doctor..." I started, wanting to comfort him, only for the Doctor to look at me sharply,

"When you woke up, you were screaming about how you hate someone and you'll never forgive them, what were you dreaming about?" The Doctor watched me closely, myself gulping while licking my lips. "Not only that but before we left, you whispered something to my clone. Something which I could tell completely shocked and possibly dazzled me. I know myself, and I saw all the raw emotions, what did you tell me?"

Rubbing my shoulders, I looked to the ground. The Doctor stalked close to me, his feet coming in my line of vision as his fingers grasped my chin, forcing me to look up at him.

"Effie?" He quirked a warning brow, daring me to lie to him.

"It was a nightmare." I quickly said, sighing. "I really don't want to talk about it right now. All I'll say is it had something to do with the Ravagers." Hurrah! Another lie!

The Doctor's eyes gleamed in disappointment, but he didn't push for more information, too caught up with Amy currently missing.

"Amy," I started lowly, voice raw of emotion. "What are we going to do?" Get his mind off me for now, we had to find Amy.

The Doctor took a few steps away from me with a look that said he knew exactly what I was doing, but he wouldn't argue; for now. "We're going to get Amelia and her child back, and if it's a fight they want..." My eyes widened at his words, the Doctor looking to the control panel. "Then it's a fight they'll receive. I show them what the true fury of a Timelord is like, I'll show them what happens when someone decides to torment the people I care about!" He finished darkly, turning around.

"Go to bed, my love. You'll need your energy." His voice called out calmly, myself biting my lip when I realized he was utterly serious.

He truly meant for us all to fight the Silence. I'd never even seen the Silence but I knew enough about them from the Doctor.

"Are you coming?"

The Doctor shook his head, looking to the console. "Later, I have things to do, people to assemble, an Amelia Jessica Pond to track down."

I didn't say anything, simply spinning on my heel walking to our room. Now was not the time to argue with the Doctor, anytime but now. The Silence kidnapped Amelia for months on end, and I actually felt sorry for them.

Because they were now on the receiving end to the Doctor's rage.
