Malakai frantically searched for Valencia as he shoved people out of the way on the crowded dance floor.

Val who had sought out spare clothes in one of the closest she recognized was hurriedly putting them on.

She sniffled quietly as she tugged the hoodie over her head.

The multiple people and new clothes was muddling her scent that Kai was following.

Her boots replaced her heels and she straightened her leggings. During her flurry of thoughts and hurry to fix her clothes, she was completely ignorant of her surroundings.

A figure that radiated power with a dark aura grew near her as the sea of people parted for them.

Kai saw people separating and being shoved aside and furrowed his brow, he saw  a tall dark haired person walking toward the bar. He looked ahead to their destination.

His eyes zeroed into on his mate that was straight ahead of him. His breath hitched in urgency and he bolted towards his Nymph.

Just as Val had gotten her boots on correctly she felt many eyes on her. Her dark brows furrowed and she looked to the left. Her eyes dark eyes widened when she saw a pale woman approaching her fast.

The lady's eyes were black, making her skin look even whiter. She was beautiful and fierce as she was close to 6'0 it seemed. Her long raven hair reached her back but was shaved completely on both sides.

Her plump lips pulled into a smirk and Val caught a glimpse at a sharp fang.

Before concern could even set in large arms wrapped around her. Kai ripped her away from her spot and shoved her behind him. He braced his arms behind him, caging her behind him and against the stage walls.

The woman's pace never faltered until she was a few yards away. Kai snarled as he tried to completely block his mate from this woman's gaze.

Val glanced from around his back a little while gripping Kai's t-shirt.

"There's a pretty nymph behind you," the woman had a deep, sensual voice.

Kai didn't respond, narrowing his eyes as his growls grew louder.

"She smells divine," her tongue ran along her fangs and Val's eyes widened. The woman was a Vampire.

While Valencia's mind was churning putting dots together as she examined the woman.

"Shes taken."

"She doesn't smell taken. I want her to be mine, she seems fun in bed with that little performance earlier."

Malakai was seething, this entire day was going to shit. "You so much as think about mating her and I'll rip your head from body."

Valencia's wild dark hair poked out once again. The woman smiled at her.

"K-Kai, the person that got inside the shop had no smell, she has the same cloak as that new person Victors working with," As Val whispered this information to him his eyes began widening.

"The little nymph is smarter than I anticipated. I hoped to stay unidentified for a little bit longer. Malakai Bordoa you've been quite a thorn in my side. But as a reward to myself when this is over I will take your woman."

Kai could only hear that she wanted to take his Valencia. He didn't care about any other revelations. He had to get Val out of here.

With everyone around and music baring Kai lit his feet on fire, watching it catch quickly.

He swung Val into his arms and watched fire separate them from the Vampire.

"My name is Pierce! I'll be seeing you soon Valencia!"

Pierce watched Kai disappear in the smoke.

Val clung to her mate as he moved faster than she could fathom. Suddenly she was thrown into the passenger seat of her car.

She immediately scowled at the unfamiliar seat. Before Kai could even sit in the drivers side she was leaping over and occupying the space.

He snarled at her but she didn't back down. "Only I drive."

That's how she ended up thrown across his lap as he sped to their home. He snatched her phone to call Doc immediately relaying the information.

"I want a fucking ward around the apartment, now Doc. The bitch wants my fucking mate and she's already been in the garage once. No- I don't give a fuck if your pursing a threesome! Get a god damn ward around the block for all I care!"

Valencia shivered at the anger in his voice she hesitantly tucked her head into his shoulder. His breath hitched as she wrapped her arms around his torso. The cars loud engine cut off as they rolled into the shop.

Val nestled into his warm skin as she shifted to get comfortable in his lap. He grunted and swung the door open, carrying her out and up the stairs quickly.

"Malakai-" she started but he plopped her down on the couch and immediately began pacing.

"You used to work at the club," he muttered to himself. She saw his back began wafting smoke from it. He clenched and unclenched his fists as he went back and forth.

"You... you fought those men- you didn't even wait for me! You know how to shoot, there's a whole other side to you that you never told me about."

Valencia's eyes widened before she grew annoyed. "Malakai how the fuck am I supposed to tell you about myself when you don't give me the time of day!"

He opened his mouth to rebuttal but she held up a finger as she stood.

"Your two moods are not giving a fuck about me or wanting to fuck me! You don't know how I grew up, you don't know what I've been through. And I have no idea what you've been through! I want to know so bad, Kai. I want to know the in's and out's because I care about you!"

Kai recoiled at the declaration of feelings. He swallowed and sat down on the couch as he rest his face in his hands.

"I've never had... this before. My own person to... ya know care for. Or love. I've only had my brother and sister we didn't have family until recently. My parents weren't involved till a couple years ago. I... I don't know how to do normal things or express my emotions and I'm sorry. I'm sorry I can't be normal or the... the mate you deserve." His voice got stuck in his throat and Valencia's eyes were wide at his admission.

She sat down in a heap next to him, looping her arm around his. Her other hand gripped his face and turned him towards her. Her nose brushed his gently and his eyes shut slowly.

"You don't have to change for me. I don't want that, I just want you. Just work with my Kai, okay? We can do it together there's no rush."

She scooted closer and brought him to rest his head against her shoulder. He pressed his lips tightly against her skin. He lifted himself to rest his forehead against her own.

"That bitch is trying to take you away from me," he suddenly growled as he brought his hand to thread his fingers through her thick hair.

"You're mine even if I don't deserve you, if there's one thing I know it's that I'm a selfish bastard." He kissed her jaw hard before licking and sucking on a specific patch of skin.

"She's not my mate, don't work yourself up over nothing," she whispered to him as she toyed with his hair. His lips sending shivers down her spine.

"Vampires are the only species that can mark people that aren't their mates. Their fangs release a venom at will to over power unmated bonds."

Val's eyes widened and she suddenly understood Kai's panic.

She drew him away from him, he grumbled quietly and tugged her closer.

"How do we make sure she can't... do that?"

Kai flushed but his dark skin kept his mate from detecting his embarrassment. His eyes darted to her lap as he rubbed over her thigh.

"I mark you... I don't think either of us are ready to complete the process yet. Actually I don't think we're ready to mark each other but that's one way to stop that," he muttered as he squeezed her hip.

Valencia's cheeks did flush and she took a shaky breath.

She didn't want to be forcibly marked by this woman, who seemed to have every intention of doing so. And she didn't want to rush Malakai especially after he's just opened up.

"Do..Do you want to mark me?"

Kai cleared throat and found her dark eyes. "Of course I want to mark you. I want to every damn day it's just a matter of timing."

She took a deep breath, "Nows as good a time as any. I want you to mark me, but no bullshit all I ask is no more silence. I need you to talk to me. We're a team."

okok so some exciting stuff is happening i wasn't sure when i wanted the mark to happen but i need it for future plot so nows as good a time.
