Chapter 2~Family Reunion
Sorry for the long wait for this update but I'm getting it now. I wanted to dedicate this chapter to lunarladie for helping me brainstorm ideas and thank them for the support. Thanks a bunch!
Sat in a Ferris wheel's car, is Robin and Starfire. She watches the fireworks show with complete awe and sighs blissfully.
"Beautiful," She sighs, turning her gaze to Robin, the pyrotechnics highlighting their faces with their beautiful colors, "tell me again what they are called."
"Fireworks." He answers simply, smiling at her as she goes back to staring at them in wonder.
"On my home planet, such explosions would mean the Gordanians were attacking. You are certain Earth is not under attack?" She asks, turning to look at him in concern.
Robin chuckles, "Positive. Cotton Candy?"
Starfire stares at the offered pink fluffy stuff distrustfully. "The last time I ate a ball of cotton, it was white. And it did not taste very—"
"This is different." He pulls off a wad and pops it into his mouth. Cautiously, she follows suit and realizes it is indeed different from the cotton ball.
She hums in delight before gasping in surprise, "It vanished!" He chuckles at her reaction.
"Yeah, it'll do that."
Starfire sighs again, "When I first came to this planet, I did not think I would ever fit in. Earth was full of strange things. But now, I see that—"
The loud cacophony of fireworks cuts her off.
"Here comes the finale! Yes!" Robin cheers, leaning forward with interest. Starfire turns away and stares as the display in the sky has turned into a fusillade of redoubled intensity. "Whoo~! Amazing!"
"Earth is full of amazing things too." Starfire murmurs, staring, her expression of awe now directed at him.
"Best planet I've ever been to."
An octopus shaped craft sweeps past the Ferris wheel and yanks Starfire from her seat in its tentacles; she is carried screaming into the sky.
"STARFIRE!!!"
🔥🔥🔥 Line Break 🔥🔥🔥
Beast Boy runs off with a giant stuffed chicken toy, towards Raven who is watching him and Cy play carnival booth games. Edgar was at Cyborg's side, a black hoodie on and the hood pulled up to hide his horns but it couldn't hide his glowing gold orbs.
"Told you we'd win you a prize." Beast Boy says as he approaches her, handing her the chicken. She accepts it and stares with an unamused frown.
"A giant chicken. I must be the luckiest girl in the world." She comments dryly. Edgar looks over at her and looks back at the booth, scanning the stuffed toys before his eyes find the many stuffed cutesy octopuses. He latches onto Cyborg's right arm with his hands, tugging him to the booth of a dart game, pointing at the octopuses.
"Cy! Cy! Win me one please please please please PLEASE!!!" He begs, tugging his arm. Cy pushes at his hands, frowning slightly.
"C'mon, man, you're gonna scratch the merchandise!" He huffs, gesturing to the robotic parts of his arm. Ed pouts at him.
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND CY, I NEED IT!!!" Edgar shouts loudly, jumping up and latching onto Cy's shoulders so he can screech in Cyborg's face.
"Alright, alright, I'll get it for you so calm down." He huffs, reaching up and grabbing Edgar by the hips before depositing him onto the table top of the booth as he calls the woman manning it over. She walks over, looking between the two in shocked awe. "Hi, how much to play?"
"Uh, f-five bucks..." She stammers, staring mostly at the back of Edgar's head. He turns slightly to watch Cyborg play. "F-for those, you have to p-pop five balloons." She explains, pointing at the prize Edgar wants and hands Cyborg ten darts. He carefully aims and gets four with eight darts. Just as he's about to throw the ninth dart, Robin lands nearby in a crouch.
"Titans! Trouble!" He calls, making Cyborg miss. Edgar hops off the table, rushing over to the boy wonder with Raven and BB.
"Where's Star?" Ed asks, shrugging off his hoodie to show his suit under it and passes it to Raven who immediately teleports the item to his room in the tower.
"That's the trouble." Robin answers. A small weight lands on Pyro's head and red stubs fill his vision. He reaches up and takes the large, regular pillow shaped, stuffed octopus toy off his head to study it. He frowns. It was red with turquoise eyes and pink blushies.
"Let's go!" Robin barks, running off. Raven holds her hand out to Pyro and he distractedly hands her the octopus so she can teleport it too.
Reaching the end of the pier, they look over the bay and see a scintillating object plummet straight toward the waves. It resolves into Starfire as she pulls up sharply to skim the surface, leaving a broad wake behind herself. The craft is hot on her tail. She looks back over her shoulder, gasps, and dodges a lashing tentacle; turning onto her back, she throws a couple of starbolts that hit the nose without effect.
"No more chasing now, please!" Pyro hears her plead with the craft. A flip to face forward again, and she is off like a shot. She angles herself toward the pier and flies neatly through the other five Titans; the pursuer does likewise. Pyro automatically reaches out and grabs onto the tentacles, putting all his strength into the grip but is ultimately lifted off his feet with a yelp and is dragged along for the ride.
"EDS!" Cyborg yells in shock, staring after him with wide eyes.
The chase loops around the Ferris wheel and back to the pier, where Starfire stops just behind the rest of the team. Beast Boy is first to attack, leaping high and turning into an alligator to bite at the tentacles' bases, just barely missing. Raven levitates a nearby hot dog cart and heaves it at the oncoming vehicle, which crashes right through it, Pyro hugging tighter to the tentacles as the debris bounces off his rough red skin.
"I AM STILL ON THIS THING DAMNIT!!!" Pyro roars and as the thing races past Cyborg, he throws his legs out and hits Cy in the chest with his feet, catapulting off of the tech teen and flipping around, turning his weight on top of the octopus thing with all his strength. Ever so slowly, he is dragged forward a few feet before bringing the craft to a stop.
"Star got me an actual octopus!" Edgar says with a mad grin. "Suck it, Cy!" He adjusts his grip as it begins to slip. "And it's purple."
"What's wrong with the one I got you!?" Cyborg huffs, glaring at him as he rushes over to grab the octopus by its body.
"Just because I'm red and like setting shit on fire doesn't mean that's my favorite color!" Pyro bickers, his eyes widening when he hears a protesting loud creak coming from the octopus as it gets torn in half by Cyborg's arms. "Aw, Cy! You ruined my new toy!" He whines, pouting at Cyborg as the thing goes limp in their arms.
"Whatever that thing was, it can't hurt you now." Robin reassures Starfire who floats to be in front of him, staring at the creature in concern.
"But..." she trails off, her green eyes filled with confusion, "why did it wish to hurt me at all?"
Everyone stares in surprise when a loud crunch fills the silence and they turn to see Pyro spitting out pieces of tentacle as he drops the one in his hands to wipe at his forked tongue with a disgusted expression.
"Ugh, gross. Question answered, alien octopus does not make good calamari." He huffs, glaring down at the octopus in disappointment.
"It's a robot." Cyborg states.
"Yeah, and?"
"Why did you think it would taste good? It's metal, alien oil most likely, and not meat!?" Cy starts to rant, staring at Pyro like he's lost his mind. Beast Boy starts laughing at the two, joining in on their bickering while Raven looks on unamused. Starfire is staring at the octopus with concern and Robin is crouched down next to it, opening the main body part and studying its mechanics.
🔥🔥🔥 Line Break 🔥🔥🔥
The Titans enter the ops room, Ed pouting behind everyone as he messes with his tail. He really wanted to keep the purple octopus but Robin had Raven teleport it to— what Edgar dubbed as— his 'Case Room' to study when they got back. Starfire, positively ecstatic, enters first while her teammates stand at the doorway.
"Come friends!" Starfire encourages, spinning in the air with a giggle and smile. "I shall thank you for my rescue by reciting the Poem of Gratitude, all six thousand verses."
"I see you haven't changed a bit." A female voive calls in amusement. Edgar jumps up onto Cyborg's shoulders, eyes searching for the speaker; a teenage girl similar in appearance to Starfire, but whose clothing is black rather than violet. Her hair is this same color as her clothes, her eyes narrow and blue, and she wears metallic full-body armor beneath her clothes. She leans against the back of the couch but pushes off from it, "When we were little, I was always rescuing Starfire." Laughing, she opens her arms wide as Star rushes over to hug her.
"Sister!" She squeals with delight.
"Sister?" Ed hums, staring the black haired girl over. She did look like Starfire but, upon closer look, she had this air to her. Ed sniffs, leaning forward and over Cy's head to stare at the newcomer.
Star's sister holds up a necklace with a large green gem, "Brought you a present." Starfire gasps and her eyes widen at the sight of it.
"A Centauri moon diamond?!? Where did you get—?"
"On the Centauri moons, of course." She fastens it around Starfire's neck. "Oh, look, it matches your eyes."
"You must meet my friends!" Star beams, yanking her sister across the operations center before she can say a word. "I wish to introduce my big sister—"
"Blackfire," She interjects, stepping forward. Star looks taken aback by her sister, "and since Star told me all about the Titans in her transmissions, let me guess..." She points to— "Cyborg!"
"Pleased to meet you little lady." Cy offers his hand to her. There is a loud grinding of metal as she takes the hand; after letting go, he finds his fingers to have been squeezed temporarily out of alignment. "Little lady, big handshake. Well, alright."
She smiles at him before turning the smile up further to— "Edgar, right? Or Pyro." He simply nods and she moves on to— "Raven, I like that gemstone on your Ajna chakra."
"You... know about chakras?" Raven asks slowly, sounding impressed.
"I got way into meditation on Altara Prime." She moves on. "Beast Boy! What's up?"
"Nothing but the ceiling, baby." BB winks at her.
Blackfire laughs, "Good one!"
"See? She thinks I'm funny!" BB points out at Raven, elbowing her.
"Statistically, I suppose someone has to." Rae sighs dryly, rolling her eyes and ignoring him. Finally, Blackfire makes her way to the leader.
"And you must be Robin." She zips behind him and fingers his cape. "Oh, I am loving this cape. It's positively luscious!" Edgar narrows his eyes, even more suspicious than before. He hops off of Cy and walks over to Blackfire as Robin answers.
"Thanks. It's a high-density polymerized titanium, ten times stronger than steel."
"So, Blackfire, where were you when Star was kidnapped by ugly lizard people?" Ed inquires, stepping between her and his best friend as he smiles forcefully at her. "Because I don't remember seeing you here, y'know, saving her."
Her expression dips into a sad frown and her blue gaze flickers to Star. "Yes, well I was off planet and didn't hear about it until she got into contact with me and after that, we talked everyday like before."
"Hm, so you guys have always spoken through... transmissions?" He asks, getting a nod, he continues. "Everyday before she was taken... didn't it seem odd that she stopped talking to you?"
"I just figured she was busy, that sometimes happens—" Blackfire pauses, looking to him with wide eyes. "Are you... are you accusing me of something?"
"Oh no, I wouldn't dream of it." Ed replies, grinning at her. "Just curious. After all, you know so much about us and yet, Star never mentioned you." Starfire hugs Edgar from behind and smiles awkwardly at her sister.
"So, beloved sister, what brings you to Earth?"
"I was in the quadrant. Thought I'd see if Earthlings like to party." She replies as she walks around the red teen and her sister and back to the couch, hopping over the back and takes a seat. "Besides, I needed a rest. Nearly got sucked into a black hole on the way here."
Robin, BB, and Cy are immediately at the couch in the blink of an eye. Raven moves over to the kitchen, leaning against the counter and staring as the boys make fools of themselves.
"Black hole?" Robin asks curiously.
"No way!" Cy gasps in disbelief.
"Cool!" BB says in awe. Edgar rolls his eyes and pulls away from Star, walking over to the fridge to grab a tub of rocky road ice cream from the freezer and begins eating directly out of the bucket.
"Okay. I'm cruising through the Draconis Nebula, and—"
"Sister! That nebula is full of black holes! You know travel there is forbidden." Star cuts in, gasping in horror and staring in disapproval.
This remark is met with dead silence and very funny looks from the four at the couch.
"Most fun things in life are." Blackfire replies dryly. "Now be a sweetie and bring me one of those sodas I've heard so much about." She turns back to the boys, continuing her tale. Edgar, seeing his chance, smirks and uses his tail to open the fridge and grabs a root beer, taking it into his right hand and shakes it violently. "So anyway, I'm zooming over an evening horizon, approaching light speed, when all of a sudden..."
"I see you have not changed either." Star grumbles to herself as she makes her way to the fridge only to pause when a rootbeer is held out to her by a red spade tipped tail. She looks up to see Edgar grinning mischievously at her, showing off a sharp fang. He winks at her. Star takes it, tilting her head at him curiously before making her way back to her sister and hands it to her. She starts to float back as her sister opens it only to whirl around at the sound of the short scream from Blackfire. Starfire turns in time to see her sister's hair soaked with soda foam and hears Edgar chuckling quietly to himself.
Blackfire glares at the red teen before controlling her expression before anyone can see and stares at her sister in bewilderment. "Tell me, sister, do all sodas do that?" The red teen with horns rolls his eyes, sliding off the counter and exiting the room altogether.
🔥🔥🔥 Line Break 🔥🔥🔥
Edgar sighs, his eyes still shut as he lounges on the roof of Titans Tower. He lifts the iPod Robin gifted him and skips the song, then the next, and so on before sighing with aggravation and removes the headphones from his ears, turning the device off and putting both items away. He sniffs the air, his right ear twitching before he looks over his shoulder to see Starfire floating over to him.
"Hey Star, what's up?"
"Might I join you in your roof napping?" She asks, biting her lip and twiddling her index fingers.
"Of course, why would I say no?" Ed chuckles, scooting over on his blanket to provide more room for her. Starfire takes a seat beside him, immediately pulling her knees close to her chest where he catches a glimpse of the gem Backfire gave her.
"None of the others want to. I tried to join the gaming of videos with Beast Boy and Cyborg but they..." She trails off, "they said the 'winner' would play my sister and that she 'rules' the game."
Edgar's smile dips into a frown as he stares at her downcast profile. "What about Raven?"
"Ah! Yes, I asked Raven to go to her depressing cafe but she went with Blackfire already and did not wish to go with me." Starfire recounts, hugging her legs tighter. "Robin was with her too... learning the 'cool' moves my sister knows." She sighs heavily, resting her chin on her kneecaps. "It would seem that they prefer her company over mine."
"Hey, that's not true Star. You're our friend and I'd rather hang out with you over Blackfire any day ."
"You would!?" Star beams, lifting her head to grin at him. He grins back.
"Of course! Besides, your sister is kind of annoying, what with all her bragging and stuff." Ed dismisses with a wave of his hand before pulling out his iPod again and opening YouTube. "Let's watch funny cat videos, 'kay?" Star hums in agreement and moves closer, both laughing at the ridiculous actions of the cats in the video.
Blackfire watches with a scowl and narrowed eyes from the doorway that leads to the roof. Her eyes glint dangerously and a smirk curls her lips as she pushes off the doorway and heads back into the Tower.
"Hey, Star, maybe we should have a movie night?" Ed suggests after a few hours of watching funny videos. His battery was in the single digit percentile and the sun looked like it was just ready to set. He stands and stretches his arms over his head, getting rid of the kinks in his body.
"Oh, yes, a movie night sounds absolutely glorious!" Star gasps, floating up and clapping her hands excitedly as she pulls Ed into a big hug. Usually, anyone on the receiving end of these hugs are wheezing and their ribs are threatening to snap in half. Edgar is a lot more durable than them though.
"Hey, Star?" Ed asks as she lets him go, beginning to walk towards the roof's door.
"Yes, Eddie?" She asks. Each Titan had their own nickname for him. Star really liked 'Eddie', or she would call him 'E' like Beast Boy does. Cyborg almost always called him 'Ed' or 'Eds', sometimes 'Red'. Raven called him 'Owens' most of the time or Edgar. Robin prefers calling him 'Ed' but uses 'Bro' more often.
"When we first met, you didn't speak English but then started speaking it out of nowhere... why?"
"Oh, well, my species can learn any language through lip-to-lip contact." She explains best she can, pointing at her lips. Ed hums.
"So... how long do you have to kiss someone?"
"Well, English is very complicated and I am still struggling with it... but if I 'kiss' someone for a week, maybe two, I could learn the whole language." She mulls, tapping her chin in thought before turning to face him curiously. "Why do you ask, Eddie?"
"Just curious," He murmurs. They make a pit stop in the entertainment room to make loads of popcorn and grab a bunch of candy and drinks, and most importantly; movies. After that, they enter the ops center. They find the others lounging around on the couch, Raven reading a book as always. Blackfire is nowhere to be seen and Edgar smirks, silently relieved.
"Friends!" Starfire greets cheerfully, balancing popcorn buckets while Edgar balances stacks of movies in one arm and drinks in the other. "I invite you to join me in the togetherness of a stay-home movie night. I bring you popcorn and non-cotton candies. Tell me, what sort of movie shall we view?"
"Action."
"Comedy."
"Sci-fi."
"Horror."
Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Raven all reply, respectively. Caught off guard, Starfire drops her load of goodies.
"Perhaps a double feature?" She suggests meekly.
Edgar rolls his eyes. "Aw, come on guys. Beast Boy chose last time so I vote we go with whatever Star wants, yeah?" He gains sounds of agreement and grins at Starfire. "So, Star, what do you want to watch?"
"Forget the flicks, kids." Blackfire cuts in.
Edgar scowls, "Devil Wears Prada, apparently." Ed and Star turn to look at her, the former disgruntled and the latter deflated. Blackfire stands there, dressed in one of Starfire's spare outfits and her armor gone. "Seriously?" Ed scoffs. "Don't you have your own clothes?" He shakes his head. "What is wrong with you? Don't you have anything better to do than try and one up your own sister?"
Blackfire sighs sadly, "I told you guys he doesn't like me very much."
"Wha—?"
"Dang, Eds, you're not even giving her a chance." Cy scolds half-heartedly.
"Yeah dude, Blazing B is awesome!"
"If by Blazing B, you mean Blazing Bitch—"
"Edgar!" Robin exclaims, glaring at Ed. "She's done nothing but be nice to you, why do you hate her so much?"
"And that doesn't come off suspicious to you? No one's nice to me! Not at first, at least."
"Wow, do you really hate yourself that much that you have to drag everyone else around you?" Blackfire asks in a soft, sympathetic tone. However, there is something sharp in her eyes. Edgar stares at her with wide eyes, startled.
"Yeah man, not everybody is like that." BB inputs, everyone ignoring the first part of Blackfire's comment. Edgar turns to Robin, staring at him expectantly.
"Let's go out! No, we are going out!" Blackfire states firmly.
"We are?" Starfire asks, confused. She looks from Edgar to her friends, then back to her sister who passes her.
"Heard about a party downtown. Cool crowd, hot music." Blackfire says to the boys, raising her brows enticingly.
"Yeah!" BB cheers.
"I'm in." Cy shrugs.
"Why not?" Robin smiles, nodding coolly. Raven still has her nose in her book.
"And it's in a creepy rundown warehouse~" Blackfire adds in her direction. This gets her attention but she says nothing. One by one, they head out the door.
"Whoo~!" Cyborg cheers, throwing his fist up.
"I am a party animal!" BB laughs at his own joke as he turns into a gorilla. Robin and Raven pass Starfire and Edgar without saying anything; Blackfire is the last one out.
"Hey, sweetie, raided your closet. Hope you don't mind me borrowing your look." Blackfire coos, pinching Starfire's cheek on her way out. She pauses at the door, looking back at Ed over her shoulder. "There'll be a lot of people there, Eds, might be too much for you." She winks, finally exiting. He clenches his fists, glaring after her.
"Why not? You have already borrowed my friends…" Star mutters sadly, standing amongst the snacks and movies she and Edgar dropped.
He looks toward her, grabbing her hand and squeezing it encouragingly. "Hey, you still have me." He smirks at her. "What'd you say we steal your sister's clothes for revenge?"
"Oh, I don't know…" Star trails off.
"Here, you'll take the skirt she had and I'll take her shirt, we'll find something in my closet to go with it! I got loads of clothes!" Starfire continues to look torn but Ed grabs her other hand, grinning widely at her as he gets inches from her face. "We'll look cooler than her~" He sing-songs. She slowly smiles.
"Well, she did borrow mine… it would not be fair if I didn't return the favor."
"YES, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! Star and Ed, baddest bitches to exist! LET'S DO THIS!!!" He drags her to her room, grabs Blackfire's discarded clothing then drags her three floors down to his room. He yanks her to the bed and sits her down then turns and pushes aside a large pile of stuffed animals, opening his closet and rummaging through it. "Ooh! This, and this, and this—DEFINITELY THIS!!!" He comes back to the bed and drops a pile of clothes onto the bed next to her.
"What is all this?" Star asks, staring at the fabrics.
"This, this is going to make everyone drool. Put the skirt on!" He directs, turning away as she removes hers, pulling her sisters on and frowning slightly when she realizes it's a little tight. "Did you do it?"
"Yes but…"
Ed turns when she trails off, staring at her in concern. "What is it?"
"It's tight… I did not realize my sister was skinnier…" She sighs sadly.
"Where is it tight?"
"Here," she gestures to her rear and he snorts.
"Star, that's a good thing."
"It is?"
"Yes, that means you're not fat; your ass is fat."
"And that is good?"
"Hells yeah!" He grins at her with a mischievous glint. "Having a small ass is bad… sometimes. This just means that you're prettier than your sister."
"I— thank you, Eddie." She says bashfully.
"No problem, Star." He reassures her. "Now put this on!" He throws the shirt— an oversized vintage Queen album tee— at her, along with a pair of waist high fishnets. "Now to find shoes for you…" He murmurs, turning to scavenge for shoes in his large closet while he hears Star remove her shirt and boots, the thigh high shoes dropping with a thud. With the outfit he has planned for her, he thinks some platforms would go well. He crawls into his closet, using his night vision to peer around, looking for— "Yahtzee!" He exclaims in joy, snatching black and silver platform tennis shoes with a planet on each heel, two rings criss-crossing said planet. "You dressed Star?" He calls out to her.
"Yes!" She answers and he exits with a grin, pausing at how long the band tee is.
"Hmm, that won't do." He murmurs, handing her the shoes so she can slip them on. He notes that they're a size too big but looks good on her overall. "Hey, Star, hold the shirt off of you for a sec—NO NOT OFF OFF!" He screeches when she tries to lift the shirt over her head and rushes over. He has her hold it out like one would do with the skirt of their dress if doing a curtsey. "Okay, hold still." He concentrates, extending the claw on his right index finger and slowly, cautiously, cuts into the shirt under her second rib and walks around her, full circle, until the bottom half of the shirt comes off and makes it an oversized crop top.
"You cut the shirt!" She gasps, staring at it in shock.
"Yeah, looks better, no?"
"I love it!"
"Let's see, for your hair… high ponytail?" He asks her, lifting it into his hands to envision it. Her long silky red hair looks beautiful tugged into a ponytail. "Yes, definitely." He lets go of it and moves over to his dresser, grabbing a hairbrush off of it before walking back over to her. He hums in concentration as he brushes her hair back and up into a neat high ponytail, grabbing an elastic band out of his pocket and tying it around her hair. He brushes the ponytail out until it's nice and straight and walks around to look her over from the front. He left her bangs out and they looked really cute with the ponytail.
"Do I look nice?" She asks shyly, crossing her arms in front of her and grabbing her wrist.
"You kidding? You look amazing!!" He exclaims, grinning up at the taller female. Her height increased with the shoes. She smiles softly in return before tilting her head curiously.
"What will you wear?" She asks. He nods at the clothes still on the bed, grabbing a black leather jacket and handing it to her.
"This is for you, and I'll be wearing your sister's crop top and other stuff." He replies cryptically before nodding at the door. "I'll be right out." He urges, winking at her. She smiles and nods, floating to his door and exiting. About twenty minutes later he comes out in ripped black skinny jeans with purple fishnets underneath, ankle high combat boots, and a black leather jacket pulled over her sister's crop top and the long sleeved mesh shirt he wore over it. The mesh material is a neon purple color. His jagged scars are barely visible through the fabric.
"...Wow..." Starfire whispers, staring at him with wide eyes.
"Pretty groovy right?" He asks, smirking at her with his sharp fangs. She claps her hands together.
"You look absolutely stylish, my dearest friend Eddie!" She exclaims, beaming at him as she flies around the horned teen and takes in his clothing.
"Let's crash a party."
"Um."
"What?"
"Where is the party?" Star asks. Ed stares at her dryly, pulling out his Titan's communicator and opens it, pressing the button that Robin told him showed where the others were. "Tracking, duh." Starfire hums with her mouth in the shape of an 'o'.
"Okay, then yes, let's do the crashing party!" She grins, floating up and grabbing his hand, dragging him out of his room.
🔥🔥🔥 Line Break 🔥🔥🔥
They find themselves outside of the creepy run-down warehouse Blackfire mentioned. It is nighttime. A thumping dance beat can be heard within as multicolored lights pulse from the windows.
"Yeah, this is definitely it." Edgar murmurs, unsure of himself. He tugs the leather jacket tighter around him.
"Um, Eddie… I'm scared…" Star mumbles, tugging her jacket as well. Ed shakes his head, snapping out of it and holds his hand out to her.
"Starfire, we look hot as hell. So, what do you say we walk in there and show off our outfits?" Star stares at him for a minute before taking his hand and smiling softly. They make their way inside, Edgar pushing people out of the way until they spot Cy and BB dancing with Blackfire. Even Robin is dancing. Two guys walk behind Ed and Star, passing them before backing up and staring at them with smirks.
"Hey, hot alien girl. You digging the scene?" One of them asks, grinning at her.
She smiles nervously, "I...did not know we were supposed to bring shovels." The two laugh at her and start moving in closer only for Ed to move in front of her protectively.
"Back off, punk." He growls, baring his fangs. They smirk at him, the second moving forward to cup him under his chin.
"Don't worry, beautiful, you can join." He purrs, licking his lips and grabs Ed by his jacket, pulling him forward and flush against him. "Care to dance, Pyro?" He whispers in his ear, his hands moving behind Edgar to grab his butt. Someone taps his shoulders just as Ed pushes against him, trying not to use his strength so he doesn't accidentally kill him.
"I don’t think they are appreciating your advances, boys. I’ll tell you this one more time: Fuck. Off." A smooth voice threatens, clear enough to be heard over the music. The voice belongs to a man of moderate height with a wild mane of almost shoulder-length brown and purple hair. His eyes almost seem to glow red in the dim light of the warehouse, his eyebrow and lip pierced with rings and his face splattered with freckles. He wore a wide brimmed fedora, a loose crop top tucked into high-waisted ripped skinny jeans very similar to Edgar’s own, knee high combat boots, and an oversized acid-washed denim jacket. “After all, boys, I've already asked you to play nice tonight, haven’t I?” His smile is as sharp and cutting as a knife, and just as threatening.
"Did they say no?" The one holding Edgar flush against him growls.
“Did they say yes?” He responds, eyes flashing dangerously.
"Fuck off, the alien girl even made a joke."
“Unless she didn’t know it was one.”
"Her name is Starfire, you assholes!" Edgar growls, tired of his ass being fondled and lifts the one holding him over his head before tossing him away as if he weighed nothing.
"You little shit!" The other growls, readying a fist as he approaches the red teen. The man grabs him by the throat inches in front of Edgar, putting himself between the two. A slight sweet scent hits Ed's nose but is mostly drowned by the BO and sweat of everyone else. He stares with wide eyes as the man squeezes.
"What did I just say?" The man sighs, his grip tightening even further on the other man’s neck. “Now I’d really like to end this pleasantly, but if you really insist on being a dick, I’ll use whatever force necessary. After all, it’s like Mama always says: What’s a little fun without some bloodshed?”
"O-kay, 'm sorry…" The harasser wheezes, clawing at Ed and Star's rescuer's arm.
"Oh, please let him go, I don't wish for you to fight." Star pleads, moving over to rest her hand on his shoulder.
The man looks at the hand before dropping his hand from the man’s throat and rolling his wrist, readjusting his semi-fingerless gloves. “Thank the lady, asshole. She just saved you a lot of trouble.”
"Th-thank you," He gasps, running off and disappearing into the crowd as soon as he can. Ed rushes to Star, grabbing her hand and pulling her away from the guy.
“I’ll have to keep an eye on that fucker,” the man mutters under his breath, scowling after him.
"I think he learned his lesson." Ed huffs, staring at him with distrust and pulling Starfire behind him.
“You’d think that, wouldn’t you?” He huffs out a sarcastic laugh before turning to the two and holding out a hand. “Sorry for the trouble they— we, I guess, though I hate being tied to those assholes— caused. I already told them off earlier when they tried—“ the man gestures down to himself with an annoyed look. “—Y’know. They apparently didn’t get the hint.”
"Oh, no, you didn't cause trouble for us. My friend and I are very thankful for your interference. I'm Starfire, but my friend already said that, and he—"
"Star, no." Ed huffs, cutting her off and stopping her by the wrist when she tries to take his still outheld hand. "You don't know him, and he's obviously more dangerous than he looks." This is said with a pointed glowing gold glare.
“I’d be offended if I wasn’t flattered,” the man chuckles, putting his hands into his pockets. “You don’t really have to worry about me though, you’re with Rob. I, uh,” he looks away, almost looking embarrassed, “I owe him a few favors for stuff he’s helped me out with in the past.”
"Yes! Robin is our friend! Any friend of Robin's is my friend too!" Starfire gasps excitedly, shoving Edgar and wrapping the guy in a big hug, obviously startling him.
"Star!" Ed squawks, staring at her in disbelief. He pries her off, glaring at her. "Just because he says he knows Rob, doesn't mean he's a friend. That's like— it's kidnapping 101!"
“Yeah, rule of thumb,” he chuckles awkwardly, stepping back and smiling slightly, “Don’t hug strangers just because they claim to know someone you do. You can ask him about me though. Name’s Kipp Crane.”
"It is very nice to meet you Kipp!" Starfire beams, smiling kindly at him.
"No it's not." Ed scoffs, getting nudged violently by Star.
“You sound like—“ he laughs before cutting himself off by clearing his throat, “— Anyway, it’s nice to meet you too, Starfire, Pyro. I need to get going, though. Busy schedule.” He winks before muttering something under his breath that sounded a lot like ‘Rob’s got me trained’.
"What, you're going to rescue a cat out of a tree now?" Ed huffs, crossing his arms over his crop top.
“Nah, probably gonna have to chase down that guy,” he sighs angrily, holding up what was very obviously a wallet. “He’s probably gonna want this back.”
"You took his wallet?" Ed asks, smirking in amusement before his eyes widen and he controls his expression back into a scowl.
“I mean he was trying to take me so I thought I’d return the favor,” he replies, flipping it open and exposing the guy’s ID. “Might buy some stuff with this before I get it back to him, though.”
"E-Eds, is that you?" Cy calls from behind. Edgar turns, craning to look up at the much taller half robot teen.
He smirks, "'Sup, Cy?"
"Oh! Cyborg! You must meet our new friend! Kipp, this is—" Starfire turns back around, gasping in shock when Kipp is no longer there. "He vanished!"
"Pfft, good riddance." Ed grumbles, turning back to Cy and pulling back to show his outfit off. "I look hot, don't I? I can see you drooling~!" He teases, pointing at Cyborg's face.
"I am not!"
"You sure? Aw, and here I was hoping you'd dance with me." Edgar pouts, turning and rubbing up onto Cy and swaying his hips to the beat before spinning and pushing off of Cyborg. "But if you don't wanna…" He looks around them. "Guess I'll find someone else to."
"Really, Eds? You hate strangers."
Edgar frowns. "Hm, guess I hate myself too much to not care anymore." He growls, raising a brow challengingly.
"Eds, c'mon, don't—"
"No! Because the fact of the matter is, you ignored Starfire all day, you ignored me, and you took a complete stranger's side over me. You saw how much that comment hurt me and yet you did nothing!"
Cy reaches out to grab his arms, managing to do so. "Eds—"
"No! Don't ‘Eds’ me thinking that that'll make everything better because it won't! I thought you of all people would know how hard it is to trust people upon first meeting… but I guess I was wrong." Edgar pushes Cy off of him roughly, turning and running away, not even noticing that Star had gone off on her own.
"Hi handsome, care to dance?" A girl dressed in goth-like attire inquires. Her hair is a vibrant blue and her skirt has a skull chain hanging from it. He notices a star in a circle pendant around her neck.
"I'm not the actual devil."
"And I'm not a satanist." She retorts, fingering her pendant. "I'm an… atheist." She chuckles at his suddenly embarrassed guilty expression. "So, about that dance?"
"Uhh, you sure? I mean, look at me—"
"I am." She whispers, moving in closer, her eyes trailing up and down and pausing at his biggest scar, tracing it with her finger and making him shiver. "And I like what I see."
"Oh…" He mutters, staring with wide eyes. She grins, placing her arms around his neck and stepping in even closer. "Um, it's not… a slow song."
"It is." She winks and just as he goes to protest, the upbeat music changes into a slow jam. "I know the DJ, when he sees me ready to dance with someone, he changes the song." She explains when she sees his surprised face. Sure enough, he looks behind her to see the DJ smirking at him and nodding. Automatically, he nods back.
"Is he… your ex?"
"Nah, good friend." She replies, saying with him as he hesitantly rests his hands on her waist. He starts to take the lead, staring down at her in wonder and asking himself if this is real. "You're a good dancer, self taught?"
"YouTube." He answers with a shrug before nodding slightly. "So, yeah, self taught I guess." She snickers, smiling up at him.
"Paid off."
He smiles down at her before his ears twitched and he looks up to see Starfire and another alien octopus, visible only as silhouettes, fighting it out on the skylight panes. It finally seizes her in its tentacles and darts away. "Starfire," He gasps, looking back at the goth. "I'm sorry, my friend, she's—" The girl pulls away, cutting him off with a smile.
"You're a hero, I get it." She assures, bringing out a paper with her name and number scribbled on it. "Always carry it in case I meet someone cute." She winks, putting it in his pocket. "Call me sometime, handsome."
"I think I will," He glances at the paper, "S-Soleil?" He stammers, finding the name hard to pronounce.
"Call me Lei." She replies, tapping his chest and backing away. He nods, waving a final goodbye and after stuffing the note back into his pocket, he takes off, leaping high and grabbing onto a rafter above, swinging from it and onto another, before pushing off a third and crashing through the skylights and lighting a fist on fire, punching through one of three octopuses.
"Star!!!" He screams, landing in a crouch and searching for her. He sniffs at the air, rubbing at his nose with a huff when all the smells from below render his nose useless. He catches Beast Boy running towards the back of the warehouse and Edgar chases him, ending up in an alley behind the warehouse. Starfire crashes out through a wall, hits the one opposite, and drops into a nearby Dumpster. The two probes float out as she opens the lid for a peek. One of them slams it down on her head and starts to hoist the entire container skyward; her screams are heard from inside. Robin's birdarang flashes into view and severs two of the tentacles holding the Dumpster, causing it to fall to the ground.
"Oh, now they remember they have a friend." Ed grumbles, hopping down from the roof.
"Teen Titans! Go!" Robin and Cyborg shout in unison. Before they can move, Blackfire flies over their heads and straight toward the two octopuses, which move to intercept. Beams of energy shoot forth from her eyes and blow them all away; fragments of hulls and tentacles rain down as she lands in the alley. Edgar narrows his eyes, staring at the decapitated bodies.
"Aw yeah!" Cy cheers, him and the other four— Raven, not Edgar— run/fly to meet her. "Good times!"
"Nice shooting, Tex!" BB compliments, grinning at her. Edgar scoffs, ignoring them and moving to the dumpster to help Star out of it. She smiles thankfully at him as he helps her remove garbage off the clothes he lent her.
"How did you know where to hit them?" Robin inquires, staring at her in awe.
She shrugs, "Lucky guess."
"Oh, bullshit!" Edgar exclaims, having enough of the praise. They all turn to face the two. "Hi, hello, nice to see Star and I aren't invisible." He gestures to her. "Did you forget she was almost kidnapped? Again? Or are you guys too busy being played by Bitchfire to notice???"
"Edgar, calm down—"
"No! You know what, Robin, fuck you guys. If this is how you treat your fucking friends, then I'm done." He growls, turning to Star. "Can I get a ride back to the Tower? I wanna get my shit so I can leave."
"Eddie…" Star whispers.
"No, Star, I'm over it. The second Blackfire shows up and she has them pussywhipped. I'm done." He scoffs, shaking his head furiously and holds out his hands to her. "Are you gonna give me a lift or not?" She nods, taking his hands and flying off with him before the others can get a word in.
When they finally make it back to the Tower, they find Edgar with a backpack on waiting for them in the ops center, a familiar red stuffed octopus in his hands. He approaches Cy with a small glare.
"Eds—"
"Here's your stupid red octopus back." Ed cuts him off, shoving it into the half robot teen's chest before stomping around him. Small hands gently grab his tail and he turns with a growl but pauses when he sees Beast Boy's puppy-dog eyes.
"Please don't go, E…" He pleads, pouting sadly with his pointy green ears drooping.
"Sorry, BB." Ed mutters, yanking his tail free and exiting the room. He makes it out of the Tower and to the edge of the island. He clenches his eyes tightly closed. "Shit, why do we have to live on a fucking island!?" He huffs, falling to his knees in the sand. A large shadow looms over the tower and the sound of an aircraft is heard behind him. He whirls to see a large, flat deck, alien ship above the tower. "What the fuck?" He watches as it takes off, higher and higher, before it starts to rapidly lose altitude. "What the fuck?" He repeats.
"Edgar!" Raven yells, appearing behind him from a pool of shadows. He startles, turning to face her with wide eyes.
"Let me guess," He hikes a thumb at where the craft crashed down at, "Starfire?" She nods and he sighs, following her into her portal.
Starfire lowers Robin safely onto the ground of the riverbank the craft crashed into.
"Star! Robin!" Beast Boy yells as he and Cyborg rush over to them, Raven and Edgar appearing out of a portal and doing the same.
"You guys okay?" Cy inquires worriedly. Two of the crewmen stand up amid the clouds of smoke pouring up from their wrecked craft. All six Titans brace for action.
"Titans! Get ready!" Robin barks. The two aliens approach.
"In the name of the Grand Centauri Empire, you are all under arrest." One orders.
Edgar shrugs, "Wouldn't be the first time." The being shows a badge, the sight of it momentarily stunning the team.
"Uh… you can't be the good guys. We're the good guys." Beast Boy gestures at the group.
"And we are Centauri police." The second crewman speaks up.
"The Tamaranean girl is a liar and a thief." The first points at Starfire. "She's committed high crimes throughout the entire Centauri system."
"I have never even been to the Centauri moons!" Star rebuts, staring with scared eyes.
"I FUCKING KNEW WE COULDN'T TRUST THAT DAMN SNAKE-Y ASS BITCH!!!" Edgar suddenly roars at the top of his lungs before glaring at Robin. "I told you, but you wouldn't listen to me! Bros before hoes dude! Rule number one!" He holds up an index finger in Robin's face who pushes it away to address the alien cops.
"You've been chasing the wrong girl." He informs them before turning back to his team. "Where's Blackfire?"
Beast Boy is the first to provide an answer, pointing up at a tiny black shape zooming among the clouds and away from the area. "Uhhh…"
"Don't worry Star, she won't get away with this." Robin assures her.
"No, she will not!" Starfire growls with sudden ice-cold fury. She takes off like a rocket, Edgar watching her go with an insane grin and bloodlust in his eyes.
"Pop off, queen!" He yells after her, cupping his mouth before pumping a fist. He watches as Starfire intercepts her sister. They share a few words before Blackfire warms up a starbolt and lets her have it in the kisser to send her tumbling. "Hell no! BEAT HER ASS, STAR!!!" Edgar roars, cheering when Starfire rights herself and floats back up.
Blackfire unloads a machine-gun barrage of starbolts; Starfire flies through them all without so much as getting her hair singed and gathers herself for a crushing counterstrike. This shot connects with Blackfire's hand and makes the one she was about to throw fizzle out. One very angry little sister rises to stare her down; both hands are lost in the dazzling radiance of the starbolts she is holding in check. Blackfire merely laughs in her face, but trails off into surprised yells as a Centauri tentacle whips in from behind to tie her up. Starfire turns to look toward the source.
"HA SUCK ON THAT BITCHFIRE!!!!" Edgar cackles with delight.
"Blackfire of Tamaran, you are under arrest." The centauri cops announce over the speakers. Starfire says some inaudible final words to her sister who is thrashing in the whip of the Centauri ship that is reeling her in.
"Hey, uh, Eds—Edgar, I, we're sorry." Cyborg stammers and Ed looks behind him to see them all staring at him with different degrees of regret. "Really really sorry—"
"I know, Cy." Edgar replies softly, smiling reassuringly at them. Cyborg holds out the red octopus and Edgar takes it, smiling bashfully up at the taller male.
"Y'know, red isn't all that bad." Ed murmurs, staring at the octopus fondly. Raven walks over, discreetly passing something to Cyborg who hides it behind his back.
"So you don't want this, then?" Cy asks, pulling out a second, purple, octopus. Edgar gasps and takes it, hugging it tightly before tossing it at Raven who immediately opens a portal to intercept and send it to his room. Edgar leaps into Cyborg's awaiting arms and hugs him tightly, placing a chaste kiss to his cheek on the human side.
"THANK YOU!!!" He squeals, hugging tighter.
"You're going to pop my head!" Cy wheezes, laughing when Edgar immediately let's go. Cy sets him down just as Star approaches them. She gasps suddenly.
"The Kipp Crane!"
Robin laughs nervously, glancing around "Uh, who?"
"We met him at the party, said he owed you after scaring off some creep." Edgar explains flippantly. Robin swallows audibly.
"Oh, uh, that guy…" he trails off.
"Who is he?" Raven asks, joining the conversation.
"Uh, nobody?"
"Wow, you'd think that getting trained by the Batman and you would be a better liar." Edgar jabs, nudging Robin in the arm with his elbow.
"Look, it's complicated and you really don't need to know about them, alright?"
“Define complicated?” Cy asks, cocking his head to the side.
“Is he like a murderous serial killer, or, like, does he steal wallets,” Edgar questions, mimicking Cyborg subconsciously.
Robin makes a face before making a noncommittal sound and doing a so-so gesture with his hand, “Depends?”
"... Depends? Depends!? Star hugged him for fuck's sakes!!!"
“Oh, no, she’s probably fine.” He says.
"PROBABLY!?" The other five exclaim in unison.
“Like ninety-five percent sure they wouldn’t hurt her,” Rob says, “They’re morally ambiguous but they don’t attack innocent people. Usually,” Rob adds half jokingly. “Then again there’s no proof anyone they’ve attacked without prior evidence wasn’t— uh, their kind of target.”
"'Kind of target'," Ed repeats before clasping his hands and sighing. "Boy!"
“They don’t exactly abide by the ‘no killing’ rule but to be fair neither does—" He cuts himself off. "Uh, well, it doesn't matter."
"You know what? I don't want to know. I'm going to go home, go to sleep, and hope that I never wake up again."
“All you need to know is that they’re on our side! Usually! Like ninety percent of the time. Unless their mothers are involved—“
"Nope, no, nuh-uh, shut up!" Edgar cuts him off, waving his arms in slicing motions and looks at Raven. "Teleport me to my death, please." She rolls her eyes, providing a portal and he drops into it, landing on his mattress with a soft thud. He sighs heavily, snuggling the purple octopus and sniffing it. He smirks with his eyes closed when he smells motor oil, the distinctive scent of iron, and pizza. Cyborg's signature scent. He hugs it tighter, smiling fondly, a darker red color pooling into his cheeks.
The others let him sleep while they do the Movie Night Starfire had originally wanted and end up watching an action-comedy. They laughed and criticized the very fake fighting sequences but over all, they had fun and that was all that mattered.
