Chapter 1~Split Decisions (Part 2)
Edgar (or Pyro as the City have dubbed him) and Robin rush into the ops center where they find the others staring at the map of Jump City projected on the window/screen, with a large flashing dot that slowly moves along.
"Cinderblock strikes again?" Robin inquires, looking almost hopeful.
"You wish," Beast Boy replies with a shake of his head.
"What are we waiting for, Christmas? Let's get a move on!" Pyro exclaims, grinning widely in excitement at the prospect of a fight. He then notices Robin smiling at him. "What?" The Boy Wonder holds up a clothe's hanger with a mostly black garment that has dark blue accents.
"You should suit up." Robin states, grinning ear to ear. Pyro's eyes widen, the cat-like pupils widening slightly as he stares at the costume in shock. He points at it.
"You mean?" He whispers, his question hanging in the air. Robin shoves it into the red skinned teen's arms and pushes him to the side.
"We'll go on ahead, Raven will wait for you to give you a lift but hurry up." Robin instructs before the others rush out the door of the common area.
Pyro quickly takes off his usual attire before redressing in the sleeveless black and blue shorts onesuit. It has fishnet as sleeves; the right arm blue and the left arm black. The fishnet ends in different colored fingerless leather gloves and the suit seems to be made of a tear resistant fabric that must also be fire proof since it was made by Robin for Pyro's abilities. There's a hole in the back for his tail which slips through fairly easily. He doesnt bother looking at himself in a mirror and instead rushes out of the tower until he's at the shore where Raven is patiently waiting for him. She flies while carrying him on a black disc of her energy.
The (incomplete) Teen Titans have made their way to a chemical factory where a reddish-pink blob monster is guzzling down neon green liquid from barrels and growing in size with each barrel. Pyro tilts his head, his tail swishing with curiosity as he wonders if the chemicals taste good. The third barrel is hit with a green blast curtesy of Starfire before the thing can finish it; the remaining chemicals spill out the broken end, and it lifts the barrel to its eye to peer through it. Pyro is just going to refer to him as Goopy.
"That stuff can't be good for you." Robin quips, putting on his, what Pyro likes to call, 'I'm a very serious leader, grrr' face. Goopy tosses the barrel aside and belches. Both red skinned and green skinned teens chuckle with large grins.
"Nice one!" Beast Boy praises while the fire user says "Awesome!" Goopy roars and shoots gobblets of sludge from his body toward the heroes, who scatter to avoid being hit. Robin jumps and flips like mad, just barely staying ahead of the barrage, and lands on a crate near a mixing tank. The red skinned male with one and a half horns flips as well, his animal-like instincts making him look like a monkey with his movements. He ends up hanging upside down by his tail from a steel support beam above.
"Was that necessary? Who knows where you've been or what you're made of." He complains, scrunching his nose in disgust as he hangs from his tail like a monkey. He plants the bottom of his knee high to the steel and stares down at Goopy.
"Pyro, quit messing around!" Robin orders before turning to Starfire. "Star! Let him have it!" She obliges with a green blast to the creature's chest, creating a large gaping hole.
The alien female gasps in horror. "Did I let him have too much?" Goopy tales a deep breath and refills the hole.
"Not enough!" Pyro calls to her. With its hand balled into a fist, its gooey arm extends towards Starfire to try and strike her. She shrieks but before she can get hit, the red skinned teen tackles her out of the way. Robin pulls a disc from his belt and aims it at Goopy.
"Maybe he just needs to chill."
"You did not just say that." Pyro groans as he climbs off of his fellow redhead and helps her to her feet. Robin throws the discs like frisbees and they scale up Goopy's extended arm, freezing it solid. The owner of said arm looks at it in surprise, then shatters it against an overhead pipe. Robin jumps for cover while Beast Boy turns into a pterodactyl and lifts off. Starfire blazes away from above, driving Goopy back a bit, and Beast Boy executes several punching strikes with his talons. The foe blocks these and retaliates by lashing out with many thick tentacles from the stump of his missing arm. "Ooooh, tentacles." Pyro purrs, grinning madly and clawing through said tentacles. The three Titans cut and run to stay out of the mess. Starfire throws shots every which way to fend off the attack as Beast Boy does a few evasive maneuvers while Pyro slashes through them easily.
Raven rises into the air, "Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" She levitates several barrels and launches them at Goopy; they strike him in the chest, end first, and stick there. His arm now regrown, he gathers his strength and sends them right back, forcing her to dive for cover. Robin leaps in for a flying kick only to get that leg stuck in the mire, followed by his other leg and one hand when he tries more blows. He struggles to get loose.
"Come on! Let me go, you giant zit!" Robin grunts through gritted teeth. Pyro's eyes widen when Goopy only snarls and roars down at his best friend before sending forth a huge jet of slime that carries him screaming along with it. The purple tide washes over Beast Boy-back to human form-and Pyro as well. Dripping with it, Robin groans and gets up as Starfire rushes over.
"Robin!" She cries with worry.
"I'm okay," Robin says as he rubs at his hair to try and get the goo out, "sort of." He adds before spitting out a wad of goo. Beast Boy, meanwhile, has made it partway to his feet; his eyes are watering profusely.
"And I thought Star's pudding tasted bad!" He complains before Pyro shoots up next to him, coughing up loads of red goo and shaking out his hair like a dog, splattering Beast Boy with it. "Hey hey hey! Watch it dude!" BB complains, shielding himself from the red skinned teen. Goopy roars before shooting goo at Starfire and Raven, covering them in it.
Starfire stands up within it and groans disgustedly. "I feel like the underside of a Zornian muck beetle." Raven gets up next to her.
"Tell me about it." she agrees with the female redhead of the team. Beast Boy runs for his life as Goopy pursues.
"Dude, I am not on the menu!" The shape shifter shouts over his shoulder.
P
yro sticks close to Robin as his birdarang sails through the air with a long line trailing behind it. The grappling hook flies around Goopy's legs to wrap them up. Robin grabs the end of the line and takes a few more turns around the giant with Pyro following him.
"Maybe the best way to tie you down..." The Boy Wonder pulls mightily, Pyro providing aid by pulling on the grappling hook by the line and the two tighten its hold around Goopy. "Is to tie you up!" The redhead refrains from slapping his forehead with his palm but can't stop the groan that escapes his lips.
"Could you be anymore cheesier?"
Beast Boy, now a rhinoceros, charges and scores a direct hit that sends Goopy toppling backward to fall among a group of support columns. Starfire bends one over to pin him, and Raven does likewise with others. He struggles against these bonds as the five inspect the handiwork; Beast Boy is back in human form.
"We did it!" Starfire cheers, floating above the others.
"Nice work, team." Robin compliments. The tone is forceful.
"Yeah. Didn't think we'd pull it off without-" Raven angrily socks Beast Boy in the shoulder to cut him off. He lets off a surprised little sheep-like bleat, then laughs and sweats nervously. Pyro looks to the Boy Wonder sympathetically but Robin just ignores BB and checks a locator device briefly before tucking it away in his belt.
"We finished just in time. Cinderblock's been spotted downtown. Come on!"
"Shouldn't we find Cy first?" Pyro speaks up, halting the team leader's running. He looks back at his red skinned best friend who is looking at him expectantly. "You know, so you can swallow your pride and a-po-lo-gize." The last word is broken into heavily emphasized syllables that roll off nicely with its over pronunciation.
"It can wait until after we defeat-"
"Dick." Pyro growls warningly. Beast Boy furrows his brows and frowns at the horned teen.
"Hey! He said he would apologize after, there's no reason for name-calling." The green skinned teen scolds his red skinned comrade. Robin shoots the pyromaniac a pointed look before swiveling around and continuing to lead the team out. Pyro goes to add more but a gurgling noise catches his and Beast Boy's attention.
The Christmas colored pair both let out a confused "Huh?" and turn around to view the 'captured' creature. Goopy starts to ooze a bit under those girders; its entire body flows together and free of the restraints, then shapes itself into a gigantic crab-like thing with one claw, an octopus-like appendage, and a snaky rear limb.
"What the fuck!?" Pyro screeches, shuddering in disgust and taking two wary steps backward. Now having formed a second crab claw, the split creature rushes at the five; they burst out through a set of double doors and make it through then slam the doors shut just in time, leaning against them with all their weight. Goopy's snarling and pounding can be heard through the metal. "What the fuck?" The hothead repeats. He whirls to the others. "WHAT THE FUCK!?"
"Calm down!" Robin barks, all five restraining against the other five claws/beetles, octopus, snake, and body together; five battering rams to employ against the doors. "We need a plan!" The doors tremble even more violently under Goopys' assault, and it finally forces them partway open and pushes a tendril out, then another. Starfire screams as the opening grows wider and the head appears.
"What the fuck!?" Its not hard to guess who said that.
"Titans! Separate!" Robin orders just as the doors are finally smashed open. Robin, Starfire, and Beast Boy go in three different directions among the machinery; the latter turns into a cheetah as he runs. Goopys' snake, separated from the rest of the body, chases Starfire; she turns in midair and bombards it with starbolts, but it lunges and catches her to drag her from the air. Beast Boy sprints along the floor, with one of the crab claws in hot pursuit. It opens wide and lashes out a long tongue that snares him. He breaks loose by turning into a gorilla, but is knocked off his feet by a flying tackle.
Raven and Pyro, meanwhile, run from the octopus and body that chases on the ground. The former is flying while the latter runs like hell. She exerts her powers over all the machinery there, causing the bolts and screws to fall out, and the loosened vessels topple into the aisle one after another.
"Watch it!" Pyro barks, dodging them nimbly while also keeping his distance from the body thing. The octopus and body swerve and slide to miss several of them, but both are finally hit broadside. She looks back smugly only to find that the octopus has recovered and placed itself directly in front of her; there is only time for one shocked gasp before it rears up to strike. "RAVEN!!!" Pyro roars just before the body tackles him and smothers him.
The only one left is Robin, who keeps going full steam among the other process equipment; the other crab claw is after him and not letting up. He reaches a set of double doors, and pushes through them; entering a pitch black room with only a lurid green light that rises from the direction of the floor as a light source. Something breaks his fall, and he finds himself carried along in midair as he rubs his head; he's standing on a moving conveyor belt above several large vats of glowing chemicals.
The crab claw lands behind him and pulls back to strike. Robin has his staff out in a snap and delivers several blows that merely splatter through the purple goo. The end is caught and broken off, but he simply extends the other end to make up for the lost length and swings again. This time, his weapon is not only blocked, but dashed from his hands to go spiraling over the vats. Going into classic kung fu mode, he backs up a few steps and lunges for a high kick.
Back to Starfire, who is still held by Goopy's snake portion. As she struggles, it wraps a coil around her head and squeezes itself together into a large ball. She bursts out of it after a moment. Beast Boy, back in human form, Pyro, and Raven are carried into view, still held by their respective captor body parts, and the snake reforms at the feet of one very frightened Tamaranean teenager. She recoils at its strike.
Their attention goes to the main body part where they hear a muffled familiar voice. Suddenly, Pyro breaks free of his captor and roars like a furious animal, wriggling and fighting to break free. Once he does, he takes a few steps back and glares at the main body part with glowing golden orbs and brings an item out from the back of his costume. His Titan's communicator. He holds it up to his face and opens it, then brings it closer to his mouth.
"I know you're pissed but if you don't get your mechanical ass down here..." Pyro's angry voice trails off. "We need you Cyborg." He pleads, voice filled with genuine sorrow. "Please-" the red skinned teen cuts off into a surprised yelp and reflexively jumps high into the air, out of Goopy's reach when it plunges at him. "Shit!" He hisses when he realizes he dropped his communicator. He looks down at his captured friends. "Hopefully he got the message."
Back to the conveyor. Robin steadily backs up before the opponent's advance, and it soon throws itself on top of him to pin him to the belt's surface. The Boy Wonder struggles mightily as both are swept toward the free end, which hangs over a bubbling vat. He goes partway over, then smiles wickedly and flips the claw backward off the precipice; however, he miscalculates and has to grab the corner of the belt to keep from going down with it. The housing starts to pull loose because the claw gtabbed the human by one boot and is pulling with all its strength. Robin strains with all the power he can put into his one-handed grip, but the conveyor has had all it can take. His fingers slide away from the ripping material to leave him plummeting toward the last bath he will ever take.
Out of nowhere, a familiar bionic arm shoots into view and grabs his wrist. On the conveyor, Robin has been hoisted up by Cyborg, who stands behind him, and tries desperately to catch his breath. The claw, on the other hand, was not so lucky and dissolved in the vat of chemicals down below.
"I still got the Sonic if you still got the Boom." Cyborg says, a wide smile on his lips. Robin returns the smile; the feud long forgotten. On the factory floor, Goopy's other four body parts have reassembled themselves and the other four titans are nowhere to be seen. It laughs nastily, but stops short when Robin and Cyborg square off against him.
In unison, the two males yell "Teen Titans! Go!" before going into the same sequence of moves they used while trying to pull off the Sonic Boom attack against Cinderblock inside the prison. This time, however, they do not get tangled up in midair, and Robin hurls an explosive disc while Cyborg fires his cannon. The combined effect of the two weapons is enough to blow Goopy apart into small puddles of gunk which leaves a man wearing nothing but black underwear dozing among the slop and snoring fitfully.
Beast Boy, Pyro, and Raven sit up out of the remains of their captors, as does Starfire; they had been engulfed by the slime. Robin and Cyborg look down at the frail man who has just inflicted so much damage on the factory. Shaking off the gunk like a dog, the red skinned teen's eyes quickly find Cyborg and his eyes sparkle in excitement.
"Cyborg!" Pryo shouts before rushing the cybernetic teen and leaping onto him, hugging him tightly like a baby monkey does their mother. His tail wags rapidly.
"How did you know we needed help?" Robin asks suddenly. Cyborg simply looks at Pyro who is still clinging to him; giving all the explanation needed. The hyperactive horned male nuzzles his cheek against Cyborg's face which earns him a slightly annoyed frown. Pulling away and still holding steady to Cy's left arm with his arms and legs like a demented sloth to a tree branch, Pryo peers into Cyborg's face with a wide grin and a mischievous twinkle in his golden irises.
"You have beautiful eyes." He says wistfully, batting his eyelashes at the half robot-half human teen.
"Man-Get off me!" Cyborg exclaims, shaking his arm out and rattling the fire wielder around. Pyro let's go and lands on all fours in a crouched position before slowly standing up and smiling cheekily at the taller teen that just shook him off.
🔥🔥🔥 Line break 🔥🔥🔥
The team watches as the man is loaded onto a truck for the return trip to prison; he is contained in a weird tank. Pyro glances at Robin who watches truck drive off before clearing his throat and roughly elbowing the brightly clad human teen. The Boy Wonder winces and rubs at his bicep, shooting his best friend an annoyed look and getting a meaningful glare shot back at him. With a sigh and hesitant look, Robin turns to face Cyborg.
"Look, uh...sorry about..." the apology trails off as Robin struggles to say it.
"Yeah." Cyborg speaks up, getting what the Boy Wonder was trying to say.
"So... are we cool?"
Cy grins and holds out a fist. "Frosty." Robin smiles back as they bump fists. Pyro grins ear-to-ear at their making up.
"You made up! Glorious! I wish to initiate a group hug!" Starfire inputs, twirling in the air and grinning at the two male with hopeful eyes.
"Pass." Raven immediately says. She jolts when Pyro sneaks up behind her and manages to pull her into a hug from behind, embracing the girl tightly.
"Aw c'mon Raven, don't let all your cuddly-ness go to waste!" He gushes, teasing her with a grin that flashes his sharp canines. Raven glowers in his hold before black energy surrounds her and she disappears from his arms. He catches himself before he can fall and pouts at Raven when she teleports a ways away from him.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, warm fuzzies all around. But we still gotta stop Cinderblock." Beast Boy speaks up.
"Shit! I forgot about that!"
"No, we don't. Thought I'd bring a present, 'case you were still mad." Cyborg says smugly and gestures behind himself, where Cinderblock is hoisted up on a winch, with the equipment wrapped around his body to bind him. The stone villain grumbles angrily.
"Thanks. But there is one thing that's still bothering me." Robin says, his voice gaining a serious tone. Pyro recognizes it as his 'trying to figure something out' voice. Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire first react with surprise, then go wide-eyed in disbelief that their leader is still holding a grudge at this point, given the events of the past few hours. "Breaking into jail? Using Plasmus to distract us? The whole plan seems to be a little too smart for Cinderblock."
Cyborg nods and grows a pensive expression as well. "I've been thinking the same thing."
'Cause like
I've been searching my whole life to find my own place
And maybe it's the party talking or the chocolate fondue' Pyro sings in his head, giggling and wagging his tail slightly.
While he other three are relieved; Beast Boy and Starfire even sigh visibly.
"Someone must have been pulling the strings. But who?" Robin wonders aloud.
"Well, whoever they are..." Cy trails as an easy grin split his features, "they're no match for the Teen Titans." He and Robin high five at his proclamation.
"I heard that!" The Boy Wonder agrees.
"Groovy!" Pyro exclaims with a fist pump to the air. He smiles at his friends, glad the drama is behind them.
"Let's go home." Beast Boy sighs, looking and sounding exhausted. They all begin to walk and Pyro sidles up beside Cyborg.
"I am not carrying you so don't-"
"Nah, it's not that. I just..." the horned teen looks down before shaking his head and smiling slyly at Cy. "Robin missed you a lot. He was really depressed and crying about where you were and stuff. You should've seen him, he was like: 'Cyborg, I can't live without you' and 'Cyborg, come back, I need you-'-"
"You are so dead, Edgar!!!" Robin yells from behind Pyro who glances back to see the shorter male racing towards him.
"Shit-fuck-" Pyro stutters before taking off, Robin in hot pursuit. Cyborg throws his head back and laughs, Starfire and Beast Boy immediately joining in while Raven shakes her head with a sigh but a small upward turn of her lips.
"Get back here you walking fire hydrant!"
"Kiss my ass you walking traffic light!"
Phew. Finally. Sheesh. Sorry guys, college has been a pain in the ass and I caught a cold again. It's not as bad as it was last time at least. Anyways, let me know what you think and whatnot. I love comments, live on them. They let me know if I'm doing something right. Also, I updated-well, I say I when it was really ReadAtMidnight247 who wrote Chapter 43 of Ghost Of You... please comment on that. It feels like you guys didn't even read it because she wrote it. Everything she put in there, I read beforehand and approved of so it is canon. So... please read it thoroughly and praise it because she worked real hard on it and I want it to get the appreciation it deserves. Thank you.
Anyways, Carry on my wayward readers!
