Chapter 1~Split Decisions (Part 1)

Smoke pours from behind the outer wall and the shattered front entrance of a prison, as well as from a spot on the bridge that leads to the complex. Sirens blare and prison guards run around to get everything under control, some yelling orders and others doing exactly what protocol has taught them to. The cause of the destruction and panic has already bashed a large hole through the wall of the cellblock and is on the way in. This creature is at least ten feet tall, very blocky, and appears to be built entirely of concrete.

"You know, Cinderblock, normally, the bad guys break out of jail." Beast Boy quips as he and the rest of the Teen Titans arrive. Except for one red skinned devil looking teen.

"And I can think of six good reasons why you don't want to break in." Robin quips. Robin dramatically leaps across the floor and lands in a crouch. "One!"

Starfire swoops and lands, looking sidelong from over her shoulder. "Two." She chirps.

Beast Boy, as a tiger, lunges in. When he comes down, he has taken human form except for his head and one arm; he quickly restores these as well. "Three!" His voice cracks slightly but he doesn't seem to care.

Next, Raven drops in and gets ready to cast a spell. "Four..." Her voice is low and hesitant, as if embarrassed to be apart of the cheesy intro.

Cyborg jumps in, "Five!" He boasts. There's a small stretch of silence as the teens wait for their final comrade. There's a low growl before Edgar leaps down with flame covered fists.

"SIX MOTHERFUCKER!!!" Edgar roars with glee, landing on Cinderblock's shoulder and bashing the block giant over the head with fists. Cinderblock starts to struggle to get the crazy teen off his head. His actions are similar to Ross Geller trying and failing to get the cat off his shoulders.

"Titans! Go!" Robin orders. Beast Boy becomes a falcon to fly behind Raven and Starfire. Yelling, the five heroes charge the giant. Cinderblock finally manages to grab Edgar by the tail and swings the male by it, chucking him at the flyers. Edgar crashes into Raven, sending them into a sprawled mess on the ground with the girl splayed across Edgar's chest. They groan.

Robin lands a solid kick that staggers the foe. Cinderblock turns around just in time to catch a double dose of starbolts in the back, courtesy of Starfire. Followed by Cyborg who aims a right hook; even though Cinderblock stops it, he is still driven back by the impact. Raven and Edgar get up, shaking off the pain before rushing over to be apart of the fight. Beast Boy dives in and rakes his talons across the concrete body time after time, forcing Cinderblock to run to another corner. Raven puts herself in his path and levitates a section of the floor, tilting it up until it stands vertical. She rises out of the way an instant before he crashes through this improvised barrier, then flies away as Robin, Cyborg, Edgar, and Starfire rush him. One giant backhand leaves only Starfire and Edgar still in motion; the other two have been knocked away. She throws a couple of starbolts while Edgar shoots fire, but they are then grabbed by two enormous hands and pulled in with a little gasp for a face-to-face look at Cinderblock.

A smile comes over Starfire's face while Edgar smirks knowingly. "I am sorry to disappoint you, but I am stronger than I look." Starfire proves her point by breaking his hold and delivering a high kick that drives him back against the wall and makes him release Edgar. Said red skinned teen holds a hand up for Starfire who gives him a high five. Beast Boy taught her that. Speaking of Beast Boy, he shifts into a tyrannosaurus rex and charges Cinderblock who simply backhands the prehistoric beast and sends him flying towards Edgar. Gold irises widen comically as the large shadow of the dinosaur looms over the red being.

"Aw crud." Edgar whispers before Beast Boy-luckily changing into his more human form last minute-drops on him like a ton of bricks. Edgar shoves Beast Boy off of him and glares at his green skinned teammate. Beast Boy smiles sheepishly at Edgar.

"Heh...watch out for falling dinosaurs?" Beast Boy trails off with an awkward chuckle. Edgar's eyes soften and he shakes his head.

"At least you changed before you could squash me with your giant butt." Edgar retorts in good fun, sticking his forked tongue out at BB. The two turn to see Robin on Cinderblock's neck, putting him in a headlock. Stumbling about at random, the stone behemoth tears a girder loose from the wall. A chunk of concrete from the floor goes with it. Edgar tilts his head.

"He's made of stone... he can't choke and pass out... what the hell does Robin think he's doing?" Edgar asks no one in particular. Beast Boy hears him though and shrugs, equally confused.

"Thrashing only makes me hold tighter!" Robin states with determination. Cinderblock raises the girder for a swing back over his shoulder to hit Robin, but misses when the Boy Wonder jumps away just in time; he only clocks himself in the head. Cyborg looks at another girder.

"Now there's an idea." Cyborg notes with a small smirk. He rips it free and charges. Cinderblock pushes Cyborg back in preparation for a mighty swing. It connects, sending the Titan and his girder skidding across the floor. Starfire floats down from above; Cinderblock gets ready to let her have it, but the quick flash of a starbolt causes the steel to heat and soften in his hands. He grunts in surprise, and she laughs as Raven looks on.

"Looks like he can't keep it up." Edgar jokes crudely, Raven, Cyborg, and Robin being the only ones who got the joke. None laugh though. Edgar grumbles to himself as he deflates from his confident pose. Cinderblock grunts and runs off down the corridor, heading deeper into the prison. Cyborg is still flat on his back, but gets up with a helping hand from Robin and dusts himself off.

"Want to give this guy the Sonic Boom?" Robin asks in a smug tone. Cyborg smiles and converts his arm to sonic cannon mode.

"I got the sonic if you've got the boom." Cyborg returns, just as smug. Edgar curls his upper lip in disgust, hating the move they're talking about. They've only practiced it but Edgar had the misfortune of being around when they did. The team regroups and take off after Cinderblock into the corridor. "Yo, rockhead!" Cyborg calls to Cinderblock.

The villain stops and turns around to find Robin and Cyborg running straight at him. They peel off to opposite sides and go up the walls, then jump toward each other as the cannon warms up. The move goes badly wrong, however, as their feet get tangled up and they are left spinning out of control in midair. Finally, they fly apart and Cyborg crashes into the wall. His cannon goes off, producing a blast of sound that engulfs Beast Boy and Starfire. Robin slams against the other wall; a disc in his hand slides away and detonates at Raven's and Edgar's feet, giving the pyromaniac no time to laugh at their hilarious failure.

Cinderblock is completely unscathed by the fireworks and clumps away, smashing straight through one wall after another in his path. Prisoners step out to look after the lumbering colossus, then start to sprint out the same way he came in.

"Hey, hey, look at this. It's freedom!" A prisoner speaks up.

"Let's do it!" Another agrees.

"Let's get outta here!"

"Yeah!"

Robin, who is back on his feet and rubbing his head, hears the commotion from around the corner, and soon a throng of escaping prisoners are coming straight at him. He whips out his fighting staff and extends it to full length, and he, Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire get ready to throw down. Edgar is still getting over the ringing in his sensitive ears. Beast Boy resumes his T-rex form to scare the living bejesus out of the prisoners. Soon, all the prisoners are being put away and watched by guards as the Teen Titans regroup to collect their thoughts. Edgar winces as he continuously rubs his pointed ears.

"Jailbreak? I don't see any jailbreak." Beast Boy speaks up.

"None of us would have seen one if Cyborg hadn't messed up!" Robin huffs, turning his head to the side in anger with crossed arms.

"Me? I messed up nothing!" Cyborg retorts. "You got in my way." Cyborg looks away too.

"You were too far forward, and Cinderblock got away because of it!" Robin argues back as he turns his head to glare at Cyborg. Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Edgar watch them argue as if watching a tennis match.

"You saying this is my fault?" Cyborg asks disbelievingly.

"Want me to say it again?" Robin sneers.

"Isn't it both of your faults?" Edgar asks suddenly with a head tilt. Cyborg and Robin snap their heads in his direction.

"WHAT!?" They roar in unison. Edgar winces since his ears were still in pain.

"I mean, it was an untested move and even though it worked in training, you guys really shouldn't have used it in the field until you got it down pat." Edgar reasons with a shrug.

"I was on pat. Its Cyborg and his clunky feet that messed it up!" Robin snaps, glaring at the older teen.

"Say what!?"

"Stop! No more mean talking!" Starfire is the next to interrupt.

"Yeah. If you two are gonna fight, we need time to sell tickets." Beast Boy jokes with a wide grin as he tries to lighten the mood. Edgar nudges him with his elbow and when BB gives him a look, Edgar shakes his head.

"Not the time, B." Edgar whispers, leaning close to the youngest.

"Cinderblock escaped. No amount of yelling will change that. So stop acting like idiots, and let's go home." Raven steps up. Cyborg and Robin throw each other a disdainful glance from over their shoulders, and both of them snort. They huff and stride away, leaving the other Titans nonplussed.

"Loser." Robin says softy the same time Cyborg mutters "Jerk." They whirl to face one another. "What did you say?!?" They demand in perfect sync. Edgar heaves a long, disapproving, sigh. They get in each other's faces.

"Do you have a problem, Tin Man?" Robin inquires spitefully.

"Yeah! It's four feet tall and smells like cheap hair gel!" Cyborg retorts. Edgar has to bite his bottom lip to keep himself from laughing.

"Well, you're an oversized klutz and your feet smell like motor oil!" Robin replies with an insult of his own.

"You're bossy, you're rude, you got no taste in music!"

Robin growls something Edgar would never have expected him to say. "I don't even know why you're on this team!" The others gasp and their eyes grow wide.

Cyborg stops short. "That makes two of us! I QUIT!!" He snarls back before stomping off, leaving a heavy silence behind.

"Yo, that's not cool. Stop him! Apologize-"

"Shut up, Edgar." Robin snaps, glaring at the red skinned teen.

"But-"

"If you care so much, why don't you go after him?"

Edgar narrows his eyes on Robin. "Because I'm not the idiot that screwed up." Edgar says in a low and even tone. It's so different from his usually loud and excited voice. Robin stares at him but Edgar doesn't back down. Robin ends up scoffing before walking off-in the opposite direction of Cyborg. Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy look at Edgar with worried eyes. Edgar looks at them next before shrugging and silently following Robin, the others following suit.

🔥🔥🔥Line Break🔥🔥🔥

Edgar silently walks into the common room of Titan Tower. Just in time to hear Robin utter something that pisses Edgar off.

"Who knows? Maybe we're better off without him." Robin murmurs as he walks away from Starfire. He's stopped by Edgar tackling him to the carpeted floor and the leader stares up at his close friend in shock. Edgar bears his sharp teeth at Robin and glares at him.

"You don't mean that." Edgar growls. Robin's shocked expression turns into a scowl.

"Get off of me."

"Or what? You're going to kick me out too?" Edgar snaps.

"I might." Robin retorts. Edgar's snarling stops and he stares down at Robin with hurt as his pointy ears dip down. His gold eyes turn sad-much like a kicked puppy.

"You... you would?" Edgar whispers in shock. His eyes drop to Robin's chest to avoid the domino mask. Edgar whispers something inaudible.

"What?" Robin snaps. Edgar glares sorrowfully at his leader.

"I said: you're just like everyone else! I thought you were different because you took me in and acted nice to me but..." Edgar clenches Robin's costume between his fists as he continues to straddle the teen. "But that's all it was, right? An act? Because like every other human, all you see is some freak. No, you used me to fight alongside you. Like some pawn. You're worse then. Because at least they said outright what they thought of me." Edgar's eyes grow teary. "I thought you liked me. I thought we were friends." Edgar let's some tears escape. "But who would want to be friends with a monster like me, right?" Robin stares, dumbfounded. Edgar's snarl is back. "Well screw you!" Edgar roars before clambering off of Robin and running out of the room before leaving the Tower completely.

Edgar tries to leave the island but he can't fly and he hates swimming so he decides to hide behind a large rock on the beach and curls in on himself, hugging his thin tail and letting it curl around his right bicep. He hugs his knees close and rests his chin on his folded arms as he glares at the ocean lapping at the shore. Tears begin to prick and he fights them at first before letting them fall. Edgar hides his head in the space between his folded arms and weeps.

"Stupid Robin and his stupid face... and his stupid porcupine hair." Edgar growls, his voice muffled. He spends hours in his hiding spot, crying his eyes out before taking a small nap. Edgar wakes to his stomach growling and notices the sun setting. He hadn't eaten since breakfast. Edgar peeks around his hiding rock at the Tower before looking down at his stomach. Edgar shakes his head, deciding against going in.

"Hey." Edgar jolts and looks up to see Raven leaning against the huge rock. Edgar sniffs and catches a scent. Raven holds out two large plates filled with beans, rice, chicken, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Edgar takes the offered food and starts scarfing it down. Raven keeps her eyes off of the disturbing sight and instead stares at the pinks, reds, and yellows of the sky. "I don't think you're a freak or a monster." Raven speaks up after a few minutes of silence. She looks down to see Edgar finished with both plates and wiping his face clean. Edgar flushes and looks away.

"...Thanks." He whispers. Raven nods and they stay in comfortable silence as the sun finally leaves and allows night to darken the sky. "Raven?" Edgar calls hesitantly. She turns to face him.

"Yes?"

"Do... do you know if the people of this city still hate me?" Edgar asks shyly. He stayed away from newspapers and avoided watching the news on TV. He was the first to run when a crowd came after they saved the day.

"They say you're an unorthodox hero but a hero all the same. They even dubbed you Pyro." Raven answers honestly. Edgar finds himself smiling. "Robin didn't mean it, by the way. He's actually inside, moping. You should go talk to him." Edgar pouts and begins doodling in the sand.

"I don't wanna." Edgar whines childishly. Raven sighs.

"Suit yourself." She says before turning to leave. She walks away. Edgar hears footsteps approach.

"Forget something?" Edgar asks. He doesn't get an answer so he looks up and finds Robin instead if Raven. Edgar looks away and hugs himself again as he scoots away. Robin squats and stares at Edgar.

"Edgar." Robin calls to him. The sixteen-year-old huffs and turns away so that his back is towards the leader instead of his profile facing Robin. The Boy Wonder picks up Edgar's tail and starts tugging on it. Edgar ignores him still. "Come on, Edgar. You can't ignore me forever." Robin pesters. Edgar stays silent. Robin let's go of the tail and sighs. He reaches around Edgar and hugs him from behind, his arms looped around Edgar's shoulders. Robin nuzzles into Edgar's back. "I'm sorry." He murmurs. Edgar stays still, frozen.

"You hurt my feelings." Edgar whispers.

"I know. I'm sorry."

"Do you... am I... are we friends?" Edgar stammers. Robin chuckles and squeezes Edgar in a firmer hug before pulling back.

"You're my best friend." Robin states. Edgar peers over his shoulder and sees Robin genuinely smiling at him. Edgar's eyes tear up.

"Bro!" Edgar shouts before spinning and tackling Robin again. This time, in a hug. Robin laughs, patting Edgar's back.

"You're a big puppy, you know that?" Robin retorts with a fond smile. His right hand leaves Edgar's back and pets his head. Edgar sits back on his knees and let's Robin sit up. They stare at each other. "So you forgive me?" Robin asks. Edgar nods with a beaming smile. "Good. That just leaves Cyborg then." The alarm of the tower goes off. Robin heaves a sigh. "Guess it'll have to wait."

I wanted to keep writing but I also wanted this chapter out. I had gotten this much done before my bird died and I just haven't been in a writing mood but it's been months since I even touched this book so that's why I had to get this out. I spent the past thirty minutes trying to write but nothing came to mind so I'll give you what I have. I am out for summer break from college so I will try to get more updates done. Sorry for the long wait. I'll update my new story, Be Better, next then get part 2 of Split Decisions out after. Night all!
