I
Heavy thoughts fell upon my bleak mind. A harsh ray of moonlight filtered in through the window, illuminating my distressed face. An assortment of stars were strewn across the sky like a discarded blanket. The frigid breeze flowing in through my open window didn't even make me shiver as it hit my curled-up body. It carried away a paper that had been loosely clutched in my hands. The ink had been smudged by tears, my tears. As soon as the page was flying out the window, a counter-wind threw it right back in. It recoiled into my face, a derisive way of rubbing it in.
The text was hardly legible anymore as my tears were now flying around the room at a rapid pace. My mind was in overdrive causing it to malfunction. The pain caused by a simple four words was incomprehensible, indescribable. "Lucette Hellethrone Found Dead." I gripped the newspaper clipping tightly in my fists. I choked on my sobs as I looked at it once more, hoping that the headline would somehow change if I kept looking. It didn't.
I released a guttural scream, my voice hoarse and grief-stricken as it left my body. A ring of fire exploded from my hands as the rage and pain overwhelmed logic and reason. The water that had been spinning around the room stopped for a moment then turned to ice. The shards shot towards the walls in an attempt to find something, anything to release its ire on.
My howls grew quieter as the trees outside started to usurp themselves to join in the chaos. The frigid air had picked up greatly, causing a torrent of wind to scour the neighbourhood in search of new victims. I knew I had to stop before anyone else fell prey to the evil that had formed inside of me. Anyone else...
That's right, isn't it? It was my fault Lucette died. It was my fault that I couldn't control the energy inside of me, the soul that had gone corrupt by the havoc I caused. Even now, the insatiable feeling of anarchy gnawed at the surface, begging to be let loose.
C'mon Anima, what's stopping you? Your twin's dead by your own hands. Surely if you can kill her, you can kill the rest of these scum! There's no reason to hold back anymore, no reason to not let it be set free. Just let me take care of it all, hm? The voice inside of my soul wrapped around my consciousness, sinking its weighty claws into my will. Something about the voice was intoxicating, alluring, familiar. I bit hard on my lower lip, drawing blood. I mustn't let it be free again.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. You know that you can't resist me, my dear. What makes you think that after you got that little taste of murder on your hands, you would be able to let go of it? I know you want this as much as I do. After all, I'm inside of your head. I can hear all of your dark thoughts as you walk by these peasants on the streets every day. What about them deserves to live? Their vanity? Their arrogance? Their incompetence? It paused. Hmph. A pity that you can't see them the way I do.
Its voice got deeper, more seductive. My darling Anima, you can't resist this. Do you remember how delightful it felt to have me in control of your body? The satisfaction of feeling complete again? I can fill that hollow again if you just let me...
I had to admit, the offer was very tempting. I could feel its smug satisfaction at my thoughts. I knew no one could take me down with it still trapped inside my body. It wouldn't let it. It had become unhealthily attached to me, possessive even. It was like I wasn't just a toy to it anymore, but something else entirely.
But even then, I couldn't take advantage of that fact to maim someone else again. The pleasure would be immense, but it wasn't worth it. The nightmares weren't worth it. The fear wasn't worth it. The lack of family wasn't worth it. I had already gone through all of it before, and I was never going to go through it again.
It could sense my thoughts. One day, my fear. One day... And with that, it retreated. It knew that now was not the time. It was only a matter of time before I exploded again, and when that happens, it would be there with a grin.
I wanted to repost this because why not.
