Chapter 5
Nya's POV
"I know I probably shouldn't have walked out on my friends like that, and I know I should've come up with more of a plan first before I started wandering the jungle, but it's too late for turning back now. Remember, Kai needs your help!" I gave myself a pep-talk as I rethought my life choices in the past hour.
Now, I was pretty sure I was lost. So I didn't even know which way to go, so if I were to turn back, I couldn't. Even if I've wandered through this jungle earlier on this island, it wasn't like I had memorized it. I didn't have a map, my DBX mobile base, or anything to help me either.
"You're so stupid, Nya." I told myself, "You're usually smarter than this!"
Maybe I should retrace my steps? If I turn around and keep walking I should be able to find a way out of this jungle. Eventually.
I turned around to walk back. Find a way out of the jungle. I started walking when I thought to myself what I was going to tell the others when I met up with them again. I imagined the smug looks on their faces as I admitted I was wrong and they were right. I frowned at that thought, and stopped walking.
I had to prove them wrong. I couldn't prove them right. (Even if in my mind I knew they were right.) My pride was to strong. So I turned around and continued my search for my brother.
I'll try reasoning with him first. If that doesn't work I'll then resort to violence. Hopefully, I can get through to him though. He is my brother after all. Maybe he'll listen to me. Plus, I don't really want to hurt him. I took a deep breath and exhaled, But I'll do what I must to save him.
As I got deeper into the jungle I started calling out. "Kai?! Kai!! Where are you?! It's Nya, your sister!! If you can hear me, please come out! I just want to talk!!! I'm unarmed!! Kai!!!! Kai!!!!!!"
The last part was a lie. Of course I had weapons on me. I wasn't that dumb to go looking for my brother if what Skylor and Lloyd said was true.
I heard rustling in the nearby bushes. I placed a hand behind me on the hilt of one of my swords. Ready for whatever was in the bushes.
"Nya?" Kai stepped out of the undergrowth.
I stayed dense despite seeing my brother. I looked around. No one else appeared to be with him. I looked down at Kai's hands. Empty. Where was the Staff of Elements?
"Where's the Staff?" I looked back up at Kai's face.
Kai frowned, "What are you talking about?"
"Skylor and Lloyd said you had the Staff of Elements. They said you were corrupted by it." I responded, my hand still holding the sword hilt.
Kai chuckled, "Why would they tell you such a ridiculous story? Do you see me with the Staff now? I don't have it."
My grip tightened on the sword, "So, you're telling me they're lying? If they were, why weren't you with them when we were fighting? Why don't the others have their powers back? Where's the Staff now?"
Kai stepped closer to me, "Who knows. Maybe they are. Anyways, I wasn't with them because when that statue fell I was separated from them. Also, our powers may not be back because Chen might have the Staff still."
"What are you doing in the jungle then?" I asked suspiciously.
"Trying to find my why back to the temple." Kai responded.
I pulled the sword out of its sheath, "You're lying to me, Kai."
"Why would I lie to my sister?" Kai raised an eyebrow.
"Drop the act already. I'm not stupid, one, and two, you're eyes also give it away a bit. I mean, they're red." I held the sword out at Kai.
"You lied. You said you were unarmed." He said.
I swung at him. Kai dodged and rolled over to the bushes he'd walk out of. He reached under one and retrieved the Staff of Elements from it.
"Looks like you lied to." I said and retrieved the other sword I had brought with me.
"You should run while you have the chance. Just because you're my sister doesn't mean I'll show you mercy." Kai got up off the ground with the Staff in his hands.
"Listen to me, Kai. Please, just hear me out," I pleaded with my brother.
"I don't care what you have to say. You want to take my Staff away from me. You want to take my power away. Sister or not, I'm not going to let you do that." Kai spat at me.
"I don't want to hurt you."
"I can't say the same about you."
Kai readied the Staff and sent a searing hot sphere of fire at me. I ducked and the flames engulfed a tree that was behind me. I ran towards Kai and raised one of my swords to strike him.
Suddenly, I felt weightless. My feet left the ground and I floated up into the air. I couldn't do anything. I struggled in the air but I didn't move. Kai smiled up at me and sent me hurtling across the jungle and into another tree. The wind was knocked out of me as I fell to the ground. I gasped for air as I struggled to sit up. My swords laid on either side of me.
I got up shakily. I hardly had enough time to regain my bearings before Kai attacked me again. Kai ran at me using the element of speed. He beat me and knocked me to the ground again. While on the ground, I grabbed Kai's leg and yanked on it. Throwing him off balance.
Kai fell to the ground and the Staff rolled away from him. I got up and ran for the Staff. I grabbed it and held it above my head ready to bring it down and shatter it.
"No!" Kai screamed and leapt at me, grabbing me around the torso and pushed me to the ground.
The two of us struggled, playing a game of tug-a-war with the Staff. Each one determined not to let the other get the Staff. I kicked Kai in the stomach, momentarily winding him. His grip slackened on the Staff, and I yanked it out of his arms only to fall backwards from the force of pulling against Kai.
Kai leapt on top of me once more and pushed the Staff against me. Suddenly and electrical shock emitted from the Staff. Kai smiled.
"You can't hold on forever. Getting struck by lightning isn't good for the body." He said.
I let go of the Staff but Kai pressed it onto me against my chest. I screamed out in pain as I was electrocuted. Then the lightning stopped and Kai got off of me.
I was too weak to move though. I laid on the ground in agony. "You're a monster. You're no brother of mine."
Kai looked momentarily hurt, but that only lasted for a split second. If I had blinked I would've missed it. He smirked and rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Whatever."
I gestured with his Staff and vines sprouted from the ground wrapping tightly around my body, pinning my arms closely to my sides. I winced.
Out of the bushes, a minute later, Chen and Clouse appeared.
"Ooo! You've caught one of them!" Chen exclaimed.
"Of course it did. She's not very strong. It was a piece of cake." Kai stared down at me.
"What are you planning on doing with her now?" Clouse asked.
"We'll take her back to hideout for now, until we get back the temple," Kai responded.
"You're going to take her with us? Does that seem wise?" Clouse asked.
"It's not like she can do anything. We'll strip her of her weapons and tie her up properly. Anyways, she could be useful later on to us." Kai smiled. "Come on let's move out."
Clouse chanted something under his breath and the vines constricting me transformed into chains. He grabbed the chains and started dragging me along the jungle floor following Kai and Chen.
