Chapter 17

Lloyd's POV

The battle was soon over. Chen's minions soon gave up once the elemental master's had their powers restored. Although, as I looked around there was no sign of Chen or Clouse. I frowned, "After all this they got away again?? How's that even possible?! How did they get away so fast?"

I scanned the room but there was no sign of the cult leader and his right hand man. I guess we'll have to deal with them later. They're the least of our worries now. They can't do that much harm anyways since Chen no longer has the Staff of Elements. Something hitting my back jolted me out of my thoughts. I turned my head to see Cole standing beside me his arm wrapped around my shoulder. Jay, Nya, and Zane were with him.

"Hey, sorry about beating you up and all that, man." Cole said.

I smiled, "It wasn't your fault. You weren't in control of your actions."

"Yeah, I feel so bad though!" Jay spoke up, "Like, I can't believe I was being mind-controlled! I didn't even notice it at all. It was a weird feeling too. It felt like my mind was glazed over and I just did whatever the first thought in my head told me to do. Which, thinking about that now, doesn't seem like a good idea. Especially if it's something like holding your friend captive or attacking them." He shook his head, "Not the best idea."

I laughed a little, "I think that seems like a good explanation of the effects of mind-controlling."

"I am just glad that you are alright, Lloyd, and that this whole mess is over." Zane spoke up.

"I second that. I can't wait to leave this Godforsaken island." Nya said.

We all nodded, agreeing with what Nya said. I heard footsteps and saw my dad walking towards us.

"Are you alright?" I asked him.

Garmadon nodded, "Don't worry about me. I may have a few bruises but Clouse has more." He smirked.

"You probably helped break the spell Clouse had on us then," Cole inferred, "Clouse was weakened during your fight with him and thus the spell weakened. And when our powers returned that might've helped break the spell completely somehow."

"Yeah! Alright Sensei G! You saved us!" Jay fist pumped into the air.

Nya chuckled at him. Jay gave her one of his signature dorky smiles in return. The rest of us rolled our eyes. Skylor walked over to join in on the group talk.

"The rest of the elemental masters rounded up Chen's followers. It'll be easier to keep track of them this time. That's the good news. Bad news; my father and Clouse disappeared again." Skylor filled in the group.

"I doubt this'll be the last time we see them." Garmadon frowned slightly.

Zane nodded, "Agreed. As much as I would like to leave this island I sense that our time here is not yet over."

"I think we should destroy the ferry so Chen can't escape the island. Destroy any way off the island except for our vehicles such as the rotojet." Jay suggested.

"I mean, that might work." I said skeptically. "Temporarily."

Jay smiled, "Ok then, well I'll go establish that with the elemental masters and we'll take care of that."

Jay left the group and walked over to where the other elemental masters were gathered. Skylor's gaze followed the blue ninja as he left and swept over the crowd.

She then turned her attention back to our group with worry in her eyes, "Have any of you seen Kai? I haven't seen him since he destroyed the Staff of Elements."

"What do you mean? He's gone again?! We have to find him. I'm not letting all this happen for another time." Nya said with concern for her brother.

"Don't worry, Nya. I don't think any of us want to repeat these recent events any time soon. Let's go look for him." I suggested.

Our small group split up to look for where Kai would be. I left the cavern temple and made my way through the upper temple and outside. I walked along the platform that gave way to the water below. I looked out and my gaze fell across the red clad ninja sitting farther along the bank. I rushed over to him.

"Kai!" I shouted over to the spiky brown haired boy. Kai looked up to see who had called him and then dropped his gaze back to the water.

I slowed to a stop when I was a few feet away from Kai. "Thank God I found you. Skylor and the rest of us all didn't know where you had gone. What's up? Why'd you disappear like that?"

Kai's gaze was still focused on the horizon. It seemed like he was avoiding looking at me. "I just...didn't think you guys would want to see me right now. I don't blame you for that though. I mean, I was a power hungry lunatic just a couple minutes ago."

I sat down next to Kai, "Hey, none of us are angry at you. It wasn't entirely your fault."

"You don't understand, Lloyd. It was my fault. I didn't try to resist the power in the Staff at all. I let it consume me. I wanted power so badly for so long that I did absolutely nothing to stop it from corrupting me." Kai clenched his hands into fists. "I'm so ashamed of myself for it. I used to be so jealous of you, and although I thought those feelings had faded away, they obviously didn't. I hate that. I'm supposed to be your friend, your protector, your brother. But I wasn't any of those things. Instead, I tried to kill you. Or at least wanted to. I don't deserve to be a ninja."

Kai finally looked over to me, his eyes had returned to their usual shade of forest green, "I'm so sorry, Lloyd."

"Hey, it's ok. We all make mistakes. We just have to learn from our mistakes; use those mistakes to become better people, better versions of ourself. If we never made mistakes, we'd never grow as individuals. Our mistakes make us stronger." I responded, trying to be encouraging. "I don't think you're the first person to be jealous that I was chosen to be the Green Ninja, and you won't be the last. That's just a fact that I have to live with. One of the hardships of being the Green Ninja."

Kai smiled a little, "Thanks, Lloyd. I promise from now on to try and be the best ninja that I can be. To protect you and guide you. Like I should be doing."

I returned the smile, "Sounds good. Now how about we get back to our friends?"

Kai and I walked back into the temple and met back up with the rest of our friends.

"Kai!" Nya exclaimed and ran over to her brother. She wrapped her arms around him and gave him a big hug, "Oh, I'm so glad you're back to normal."

Kai wrapped his arms around Nya, "Me too, sis."

The two siblings held each other for a few tender moments before finally letting go. Nya stepped back and wiped a few happy tears from her eyes.

"My turn," Skylor said walking up to Kai.

She grabbed the front of Kai's gi and pulled him down. She then pressed her lips to his. Kai had a look of utter surprise on his face at first. Skylor wrapped her arms around Kai, and he slowly wrapped his arms around her. Jay let out a whistle and a wide smirk spread across his face. A matching smirk spread across Cole's face too. Nya held a shocked expression upon her face. Zane smiled a little.

Finally, Skylor pulled away from Kai, her eyes sparkling. Kai looked flustered and his face was flushed.

"I guess all's well that ends well huh?" Skylor said with a smile.
