Jordyn had taken her new group to her house after their meeting in the library after school and had given them different things to work with.
Catherine and Katrina got blueprints and chalk and were sat at a table in Jordyn's huge room going over tactics and places to raid, Jordyn herself sat at her desk with a notebook and a whiteboard on the wall above her filled with weapon ideas, while Bianca and Peyton had two chairs by the window to sit and come up with a list of people that could be potential threats or useful hostages.
Bianca had her notebook on her lap and scribbled down names she thought of and every now and then Peyton would give one, seeing as she didn't know a lot of people who went to the school as she was an outcast. She had no friends after she killed her parents and was left all on her own.
But then these four girls suddenly appeared out of nowhere and Peyton was now a part of, what she liked to call, a Purge-scout group. Never in a million years did she think she would be. She had never participated in the Purge before because, although she was skilled in killing, had no backup if or when she would need it, especially with her schizophrenia, it would be suicide. But now Peyton had someone to back her up.
But what she didn't know was whether she had...dare it be said...friends?
"Okay, that's all the people I can think of out of the top of my head," Bianca's voice fired through Peyton's thoughts like a bullet from a gun and the freckled girl snapped back to attention, realising her thoughts had drifted far from the task at hand.
"Right. Hit us with them," Jordyn said, turning in her seat, followed by Catherine and Katrina who put their chalk down and dusted off their hands.
"Well, I've got Beth Williams, Rebecca Black, Samantha Corollary, Emily Bruno, Zac Prim, Max Prim-"
"Wait!" Catherine suddenly exclaimed, "Who were those last two?"
"Uhh, Zac Prim was five and his brother Max was six. Why?" Bianca asked.
"Can I have those two to kill?" Catherine asked and Bianca and Peyton looked at each other.
"Why?" Peyton asked Catherine, looking back at her.
"They may be hot but they annoy me. They tease a lot of people, they think they're cool. No one likes them," Catherine explained.
Bianca and Peyton looked back at each other and the former shrugged at the latter.
"Okay then," Peyton said, "They sound pretty useless anyway."
Catherine grinned her thank you.
"They do, but Max just reminded me of another boy. Max Windum," Jordyn spoke up, leaning forward in her desk chair, her hand on her chin in thought.
"Who?" Peyton asked.
"You know, jock, quarterback, pretty well built, super attractive," Bianca replied.
Peyton shrugged, "You think I take notice?"
"He could either be a threat or an ally," Jordyn said.
"What, you mean, part of Hell's Angels?" Katrina asked.
"No. Just an ally. A guy on the outside. I'll have to assess him more in the following week. Have you got him on the kills list?"
"Yeah, number," Bianca flicked through her notebook, "twenty."
"Cross him off. Put him under potential ally," Jordyn replied.
Bianca did so and continued giving the names off the list of potential kills.
"Jason McMurphy, Stephanie Astro, David Ernst, Jackson Dirk-"
"Stop there," Jordyn interrupted, "He could be another ally. He's extremely good at guns, his Dad works for my Dad as the gun instructor in the army."
"Awesome," Catherine commented, "Do you know him Bianca?"
"He's a bit older than us. Graduated last year-"
"Then why is he on the list?" Peyton asked.
Bianca shrugged, "The name just came to mind."
"Doesn't matter, continue," Jordyn ordered.
"He's English, real attractive, came from South London when he was seventeen," Bianca continued.
"He's nineteen now and lives with his Dad," Jordyn said and everyone nodded in understanding.
"Sounds sexy," Catherine said with her grin.
Bianca continued giving names but no one else good enough to be an ally came up.
"Right. Come over here. I've got some weapon ideas I want to share," Jordyn said and beckoned all of us over.
"What have you got?" Bianca asked.
"Well, I'm skilled in guns and bombs so I've equipped myself with loads of those," Jordyn began.
"What kind of bombs do you have?" Katrina asked her.
"Stink bombs, flash bombs, grenades, that sort of stuff," Jordyn said, "Next, I've sketched some throwing knives for Catherine, seeing as she's skilled with those."
Catherine gasped with delight and jumped up and down in excitement.
"For Peyton, I've got long knives she can use. You like those to kill with."
Peyton nodded and smiled a bit at the mention of knives.
"Bianca, I've listed a few suggestions of weapons that would suit you," Jordyn lifted a piece of paper and dangled it in front of her towards Bianca.
Bianca smiled and took the paper, looking it over.
Jordyn turned to Katrina, giving Bianca time to choose the best weapons for her, "Now, I know you're going to be doing the sneaking, but you'll need something to defend yourself with in the guaranteed chance you run into someone who will kill you," she said and gave Katrina another piece of paper, "These are standard but lightweight guns that won't get in the way when you're sneaking around."
Katrina nervously took the paper but beamed at Jordyn's thinking of her, something Justin would not do if they participated in the purge together.
"Now, what have you got in mind for strategies and places to raid for the Purge, Catherine? Run through them for me while Bianca and Katrina choose weapons," Jordyn said.
"Why can't we just choose later? I assume you have a weapon room. You are rich and your Dad is a Lieutenant," Bianca interrupted.
"General, actually. And I do have a weapon room but there is no way in Hell I am letting you in," Jordyn replied coldly.
"Why not?" Katrina asked, curiously.
"That's the first rule I have. Never and I repeat, never enter the weapons room unless you have your ideal weapon in mind," Jordyn said in a tone so firm that Katrina and Bianca didn't even think to protest any further.
"I'll come and get you once I think you've chosen a weapon," Jordyn finished in a calmer tone.
Catherine and Jordyn walked over to the table filled with blueprints and Peyton followed.
"Okay, what I think we should do is raid the general store on 'Makers Street', it's approximately two blocks from here but is in a secluded corner, where no one can find without looking for it," Catherine began.
"Why would they have a general store in a secluded corner?" Peyton asked.
"Specifically, for the Purge," Catherine replied, "It's not as secluded on a normal day, it's actually quite a popular store, but on the Purge, they put up curtains that hide it so they can't get raided."
"Do they have security?" Jordyn asked.
Catherine half-shrugged, "The owner has a high-tech lock on the door and bullet-proof glass but that's about it. Those curtains are a clever idea and they work!"
"Good. It shouldn't be too hard then. Have you got your strategy all figured out with Katrina?" Jordyn asked.
Catherine nodded with her grin and Jordyn nodded with approval then turned to the two girls choosing their weapons.
"Have you chosen yet?"
"I have." Bianca replied.
"Same." Katrina added.
"Right. Let's go," Jordyn said and walked right out of her room, the girls following in her wake.
They left Jordyn's room and walked down the stairs to a library and immediately Catherine's face lit up. Shelves filled with books circled the walls and comfy looking chairs were spread out here and there. Cushions and bean bags littered the corners as well.
While Jordyn walked straight to the back of the room and the other girls followed, Catherine took a closer look at the books and she saw that all of them had something to do with weapons. Having a look at another shelf, there were history books of people of important war background and on another shelf, were hundreds of thick encyclopedias, probably filled with people from different centuries.
"Hey."
Catherine turned at the sound of Jordyn's authoritative beckon.
"You can marvel at the books later, we got work to do."
Catherine nodded and trotted over to where the girls were standing in front of a bookshelf filled with books of various colours. Just one look told Catherine they were fake and it must be the entry to the weapons room.
Jordyn ran her hand along the spines of the books in front of her and when she got to the end, grabbed the top of the spine of a green book and pulled.
Immediately, a beep went off and the shelf opened!
Catherine grinned and Peyton's, Bianca's and Katrina's jaws dropped.
Jordyn noticed Catherine was not as surprised as the others.
"Analysis Catherine?" She asked.
Suddenly, Catherine exploded in rapid fire nerd-speak, "You can tell from the texture of the books, how, unlike the rest, they haven't aged which means they're fake. You running your hand along the spines was not to feel them, but so the machine located in the door could read your finger prints. In fact, all these books are attached to the shelf except for the one you pulled which opened the door."
The girls stood stunned and Jordyn had an amused smirk on her face.
"You did that in one breath," Peyton said in disbelief.
Catherine nodded, "I can hold my diaphragm steady as I talk which allows me to speak for a period of time without brea-."
"Okay, shut up," Peyton interrupted, "I don't actually care."
Catherine giggled.
Jordyn beckoned to them with her fingers as she walked down a flight of metal stairs which, the girls assumed, led to the weapons room.
When they got to the bottom, all jaws dropped to the floor.
