Chapter 6: Sub Power
It was a good thing my face was covered in fur, or they would've seen how bad I was blushing.
Taking a deep breath, I walked up to Oscar. "Sorry." I offered my hand.
He laughed and shook it. "Good to know even at my age, I'm still intimidating enough to send the lower ranks running."
Bowing my head, I shuffled back to Titus's side. I peeked over at my brother-in-law, who was trying desperately to hold in his laughter. I really hated him.
The Bloodhound Alpha looked me over. "I'm surprised how good of luck your pack has with human mates." His eyes flicked over to Peter. "You always seem to be able to sniff out the subs," he chuckled. "Maybe you can teach my son." He glanced at the tall black wolf. "I'd like to get him mated off before I retire."
I sucked in my cheek, clearly unimpressed.
Oscar noticed and watched me for a moment.
Fidgeting, I looked away and once again found Darius thinking this was way too funny. If he had been closer, I would have smacked him.
"The red fur makes sense," said Oscar. "For both of you."
Darius's mouth fell open. "Don't compare me to him!"
"We are nothing alike," I exclaimed.
"Or so you think," scoffed Xavier.
The group just laughed.
"Jet you need to find one like him," said Oscar.
The tall black werewolf nodded. "I'll have to ask Titus and Rupert for tips."
"We'll save that for later," said Xavier, waving everyone into the cave. "We have some food and drinks waiting. This way."
He led us to the back of the main chamber. The alpha went to sit in his chair, while the rest of us spread out among the mounds of fur. Oscar sat right next to the other alpha, and the two started to talk amongst themselves.
I spotted the assortment of food, and my excitement skyrocketed when I saw the selection of fruits. While everyone else was enjoying the meat, I grabbed some strawberries and an orange. Human food, plain ordinary food that wasn't dripping with blood, how I missed it. Sitting down at my mate's side, I gave him a cheesy grin as he shook his head.
"Really Aden? Choice cuts of meat, and this is what your want." He picked up a strawberry.
"Yep." I bit into one. "Mmmm... If only there was some chicken, then it would be perfect."
He scoffed at me. "Like hell we'd bring that here."
I chuckle to myself and enjoyed the food. Jet stood across from us with his arms folded. He made my fur stand on end more than his dad. I glanced at my mate. They may be both black werewolves, but Titus's fur had a bluer tone, and Jet's was more red. Titus smelt better too. The orange rolled out of my arms when I realized I was analysing my husband's scent. This werewolf thing was taking over my head.
Titus picked it up and handed it to me. "What's wrong?"
I shook my head. "Nothing, nothing at all." I started to peel it. "Want some?"
"No thank you." He picked up a piece of meat with his claw. "I'm good."
"Fine, more for me."
I peeled off a section and juice shot out and hit Titus's right in the eye. He growled in pain and threw his head back.
"On my god, I'm so sorry!" I covered my muzzled.
"You are on one today," he teased, rubbing his face. "You already beat me up once, now you're trying to blind me."
"I didn't mean to." Pulling back his hand, I took a look at it.
"Aden, it's stop hurting."
"I'm just checking." I wiped a little juice from his fur.
He patted my hand away. "I'll live."
I settled back down and noticed we had quite an audience. My orange was also on the ground covered in dirt. I sighed. It was a good one too. I could tell.
"Aden," called Xavier.
I looked over at the alpha and saw him waving for me. Standing, I shuffled over and looked between the pair.
"Human born werewolf have always intrigued me." Oscar rested his head on his palm. "How has life in the pack been?"
I shrugged. "Good. The food took some getting use to. The meat never this fresh back home," I laughed hesitantly.
"Found your place well enough though?" the Bloodhound Alpha asked.
Swallowing hard, I nodded. "Sort of. It's different. It hard to get used to all the rules and the ranking system is a little weird."
"What's so weird about?" Oscar asked. "If someone stronger than you, it's only natural to give them respect. It's the strong wolves that keep the pack safe. They're the one risking their lives for lower ranks."
I sucked in my lips. "I know, it's just different. Human aren't like that We don't rank each other. We're all equal."
"That's a lie," he stated, surprising me. "The human world is based on something as petty as money. You rank each other. You're just not as open with it as us."
"I... I just." I bowed my head. "I didn't mean it that way."
Xavier nudged the other alpha's arm. "It's an adjustment, Oscar. He met nothing by it. You've never had a human born in your pack. It's a different way of thinking for them. Aden doing quite well actually."
I fiddled with my tail.
"The one over there seems to be fully adjusted." Oscar motioned to Peter who was pressed against his mate's side.
"He's been a werewolf for years," said Xavier. "Aden only had a couple months. Not to mention, Peter and Aden are completely different kind of subs."
I picked at my red fur. "Can I go now?" I said softly.
"Jet," called Oscar.
His son moved over to us.
"Which would you prefer, a sub like Aden here, or that pretty white one in the corner?"
The dominant's eyes ran over me, before turning to Peter, who quickly noticed the unwanted attention. He tensed up before whispered something to Rupert. The scarred werewolf nodded and stood. He said something to his father, before leading Peter from the area.
Jet shook his head with a smirk. "That one's a bit too needy."
"Needy or not," muttered Oscar. "Just find someone already. A future alpha needs a mate."
"I'm working on it, dad."
"You're going to be alpha?" I asked.
Jet nodded. "Can't you tell? It's pretty clear."
Bowing my head, I shifted my weight. It was. I could sense it. There was something different about him, just like Oscar and Xavier.
"You can go, Aden," said my alpha.
"Thanks." I backed away, before hurrying back to Titus. Sitting beside him, I put my hands in my lap and stared at the ground.
Titus placed his arm around my shoulders. "What's wrong?"
I shook my head. "I keep making an idiot out of myself."
"You're overthinking things." He kissed the side of my head. "Do you want to go back to room?"
"Yes," I breathed.
"Darius," my mate called.
His brother looked over at us.
"We're heading out."
Darius gave me a smirk. "See you later, Princess. Don't wander off by yourself with so many dominants around." He took a sip from his cup. "I don't want to have come save you."
My ears went back as I glared at him. "I really hate having you for a brother-in-law."
He did his usually dramatic act, clasping his chest and throwing back his head.
"Let's go." Titus took my hand and led me toward our room.
"He's so annoying," I hissed, once we were out of hearing range. "Why does he have to say stuff like that in front of everyone. Like I already have the white fur thing to deal with," I growled in frustration. "Princess my ass. He's the only one in the entire pack that acts like a spoiled brat.
Titus put his arm around me. "He teases you, because he likes you, Aden."
"That's a lie." I marched into the room and flopped down on the bed. "Why couldn't you have been an only child?"
He sat down on the edge of the bed. "Don't know, you'll have to ask my dad."
"I'm done with alphas for the day. I just say stupid things around them." I smelt something citrusy.
Rolling over, I saw Titus peeling an orange. He ate one of the section and handed me the rest. "Figure you want one, after dropping yours."
"Thank you." I crawled over to him and stood up on my knees between his legs. "I'm really glad you got all the good genes, and Darius got all the shitty one."
Titus chuckled to himself. "Me too."

We walked into the hot pool area to find Darius, Storm and some of the Bloodhound wolves already there. I spotted Peter by the waterfall with his basket of soap and sponges. I stepped into the water and ran my hands through my fur. If Storm hadn't been there, I might have shifted. Public nudity was still a little too weird for me.
"Where's dad at?" asked Titus as he sat beside his brother.
"Alpha private meeting or something like that." Darius shrugged. "Just glad he didn't make me stay."
"Why would they?" I muttered. "You're not an alpha."
He flashed me a smile, showing off his fangs. "There's a good chance I might be, Princess." He winked at me.
"If he's alpha, we're changing packs." I leaned back and folded my arms.
"That's pretty hurtful, Aden," said Darius.
I showed no emotion. I had put up with his crap all the time. The last thing I wanted to even consider is having him as an alpha.
He must have figured out he wasn't going to get a reaction from me as his lip pulled back in a smirk. "Face it, Aden. Your mate is my brother. He's not going anywhere. You're stuck with me for life." He sunk down in the water with a content look on his face. "Who knows he might even be my beta."
Titus laughed nervously. "Won't know until the hormone kick in."
"Let's hope that doesn't happen anytime soon," said Storm, eyeing her mate. "You've already been on one lately."
Darius turned to her. "Come on, I'm not that bad." He started snuggling up her.
Storm just rolled her eyes. His trying to be innocent act was pretty pathetic, even I could tell that.
"I'm going to go talk to Peter." I stood and passed Rupert on my way to the waterfall. Climbing up the rocks, I sat down beside him. "Hey."
"Hi," he flashed me a weak smile.
I glanced over at our mates who were laughing with Darius and Storm. The Bloodhound group was sitting on the far side of the pool. Jet was with them. He kept looking over at us, until one his packmates tapped his shoulder and two wandered further down toward the river.
"Is that guy bothering you?"
Peter stopped scrubbing his arm.
I rubbed the back of my neck. "Sorry, if it's too personal. I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I saw you leave earlier."
"He makes me nervous," he whispered. "He's visited before. Rupert knows I don't really like to be around him, so we left."
"He's a different kind of guy." I picked up one of his bottle and read the label. This was some fancy stuff he was using. "He makes me feel a little weird too."
"Visiting gay dominants always make me nervous," he said with sigh and started rinsing off the suds from his fur. "You know about my mating to Rupert, right?"
I nodded. "Titus explain the basic story." I ran my hand down my face, along the path of Rupert's scar he received as punishment for mating with Peter without permission.
The white werewolf let out a deep breath. "I spent so many years hiding, it's just scares me. I don't want anything to happen to Rupert because of me." He wrung his hands together. "He's done so much already. I couldn't take it if he were to get hurt because of something as stupid as my fur color."
"I know the feeling," I sucked in my lips. "I not a perfect sub by any means," I chuckled. "But it still worries me too. Titus may tease me and drive me crazy at time, but I still love the man. I don't think anyone could get passed the guilt if they're lover was hurt just because they were a sub."
Peter nodded and appeared more at ease. "I'm really glad Titus choose you. For once, someone actually understand how I feel."
"Well I'm glad I'm not the only one either." I head out my fist. "Sub power?"
He laughed and bumped it. "Sub power."
