Chapter 12

"Ajay. Need to talk to you for a sec." A man leaning against a taxi looked up to see Dean. He pulled off his bluetooth headset, eyeing them.

"You know my name," Ajay stated. Sam nodded, his hands shoved in his pockets.

"And what you do. We want to do business," Sam told him. Libby went to take a step forward when someone tried to pass, but instead she stumbled. Sam caught her before she could hit the ground and he frowned down at her. She was getting worse. Ajay sent her a sympathetic glance. The reapers were fond of Libby, probably the only supernatural creature that wanted her on their side.

"But you are mortal – flesh and blood," Ajay told the brothers, studying them for a quick second.

"But if we wanted to cross the border into Hell – "

"Visitor's pass," Dean interrupted.

"No one wants to get into Hell," Ajay replied, an amused smile tugging at his lips. The Hunters sounded crazy to him. Everyone knew the three of them had been to Hell and back multiple times.

"But could a coyote like you do it?" Libby asked. Ajay nodded.

"It's possible. But I have special skills. I have overhead. It will be pricey."

"How pricey?" Dean questioned, not at all fazed. They were desperate to complete the Trial. They needed a reaper to get in. They weren't willing to risk Libby and her powers to get in with no guarantee of getting out.

"You three are resourceful. One day, you will owe me a favor," Ajay said simply.

"You say that like you know us."

"Of course. You're Elizabeth and the Winchesters," Ajay said as if it were obvious. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Libby snorted. It sounded like a crap ass band started by a couple of teenagers. Instead, it was a kickass hunting trio.

"Sorry. Have we met?" Dean asked with furrowed eyebrows.

"I am the reaper who took Bobby Singer to Hell." Guilt gnawed at Libby's gut. She wasn't there to save him because she wouldn't let Sam go through with the original plan to kick Lucifer's ass back in the Cage. If she had just accepted it then maybe Bobby Singer would still be alive.

Sam scoffed and said, "Bobby in Hell? We burned his bones. Once we did that, it was over. End of story."

"Hmm... Not necessarily."

"No, no, no, 'cause, see, Bobby was on the good side of things, and good guys go to the penthouse," Dean retorted, pointing up to the sky. Libby let out a sigh.

"Usually, mostly," she said. The brothers glanced over to the redhead, confused. "Depends on who you know, what palms get greased. If you're on the King of Hell's no-fly list, no way you end up with the winged douchebags."

"Crowley," Dean growled in realization. Libby and Ajay nodded. "Okay, let's do this. How much for two tickets down and three back?" Sam pulled Dean off to the side, leaving Ajay and Libby alone.

"You look horrible," Ajay commented. Libby rolled her eyes, scoffing and shaking her head. Her wet hair stuck to the back of her neck, Libby silently cursing out the rain.

"Tell me about it."

"Why help the Winchesters? You're a powerful being," Ajay told her. Libby nodded her head to the side. "You're dying, aren't you?"

"Yeah," she whispered. "Soon I could be human." Libby knew she could trust the reapers. They were the only ones who didn't take sides. The ones who stayed neutral throughout all of the wars and stayed loyal to Elizabeth. Sam and Dean walked back over, Dean's face showing just how happy he was with the plan, which wasn't at all.

"I'm in, just me," Sam told him. Libby's eyes widened.

"Wait, what? No. I'm coming with. I know Hell like the back of my hand!" she exclaimed. Sam shook his head.

"No. Dean and I talked it over. You're too weak to go down there. Besides, what if Andrew finds you? You won't be able to fight him off."

"I got a better shot than you! You're human, Sam," Libby hissed. Dean rolled his eyes at the bickering couple, stepping in between them. He sent Libby a pointed glare.

"Libby, you're staying here with me. We can't have you end up killing yourself. One, Sam would have my ass if I let you go and two, we need you." Libby let out a defeated sigh, signaling that Dean and Sam won the argument this time, much to her dismay. She wasn't comfortable with Sam going down to her old home, especially if he ran into demons that talked.

"Follow me," Ajay told Sam.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. How does this...work?" Dean questioned. Ajay sent him a reassuring look. It wasn't exactly a smile, but it wasn't a flat look either. A wave of nausea hit Libby and she grabbed onto Dean's jacket, cling to him to keep upright.

"Not to fret. He'll be back in exactly 24 hours time. Return for him then," Ajay informed the two. Sam pulled Libby into a hug and planted a quick kiss on her lips.

"No powers," he told her. She nodded. "I love you."

"I love you," she repeated, watching as he followed Ajay into the alley. Dean gripped onto Libby's arm but she was too weak at the moment to hold herself. They had just come from torturing information out of the demon which took a lot out of the girl.

"Alright. Up you go," Dean told her before picking her up and carrying her bridal style to the Impala. Libby clung to his jacket, pressing herself into him for warmth. She was cold and she didn't know why. Libby normally didn't feel the temperatures. It was one of the things she wish she could experience, but she had grown used to it. Now all she wanted was a blanket, Sam, hot chocolate, and a movie.

"Where to now?"

"Back to Kevin's. Kid needs food and we need information on you. Maybe you're on the Demon Tablet." Libby rolled her eyes. "You never know."

"Yo, Kev, it's me!" Dean called out as he carried in a bag of food and a tray of drinks. Libby stumbled in behind him, a bit more energized but not by much. There was so response. "Kevin." A door creaked open behind the two Hunters and they turned around.

"I believe the closet would be safest," Kevin spoke from the doorway. Libby furrowed her eyebrows.

"Safe from what?"

"Crowley." Dean rolled his eyes and set down the food. They had been through this already. "He's in my head, Dean. And if he's in my head, he knows where I am! You know, we – we should move out. We'll find another place."

"Geez, Kev, would you chill out, huh? Have a burger. Come on. Don't lose it on me now, dude," Dean told him. Kevin eyed the burger that Dean held out towards him, having a mental debate whether he should take it or lock himself back in the closet. The food won and Kevin found himself walking towards the two. "There you go. That's it."

"'Bout time you come out," Libby joked, hoping to lighten the mood. Dean seemed to be the only one who found it funny. Libby threw her arms up in disbelief before letting them fall to her side. "Oh come on! That was funny. I'm hilarious. Admit it," she told Kevin. He studied the girl.

"I'll admit that you look worse than when you crawled out of Hell...the second time." She sent him a sharp glare. "Just tell me when this all ends, 'cause that's the only thing I want to hear." Dean sat down on the table with a slight frown as Kevin unwrapped his burger. Kevin pushed some fries towards Libby but she shook her head. The thought of food disgusted her.

"No, like I told you before, this isn't going to end. Look, man, other guys, they got it easy, you know? It's all backyard barbecues and...bowling teams, but you, me, and Libby? We got to carry a little extra weight." Kevin shook his head.

"I can't take it."

"Yes, you can. Hey, look at me. Now, this whole thing sucks. I know. But you suck it up and you push through because that's what we do. And when you get on board with that, the ride is a lot smoother." Dean knocked the tray towards Kevin. "French fry?" Kevin didn't seem to like what Dean was saying, but neither did Libby. No one was really happy with the ride that they were on, but they had to keep their heads up and push through it with the hope that they could all be normal one day.

"I'm gonna – I'm gonna be in my room. Let me know when there's a good day." Kevin grabbed the tray and turned on his heel, walking back into the closet before shutting the door. Libby sighed, waiting for Dean to say it. She saw the triangle-shaped box in the middle of the tray and she was waiting for an outburst.

"That's my pie," Dean said softly, staring at the door with puppy-dog eyes. Libby patted his back. He looked over at her, frowning at her bloodshot eyes and the dark bags resting underneath the piercing green orbs. "Get some rest, Libs." She shook her head.

"I'm fine, Dean," she lied. He scoffed.

"Wow. I wonder who you learned that line from because it definitely wasn't me." She tilted her head to the side as he took a bite of the burger.

"Dean, you are who I learned the line from. Sam didn't say it until after." Dean stopped chewing when he realized she was right.

"Shut up," he managed to say through a mouthful of burger. Libby cringed at the man, shaking her head. Dean finished chewing and swallowed. "Just go get some sleep, okay? And get some food in your system, too. Eat a salad or something." He cringed. He was telling someone to eat healthy again. Dean wasn't sure who was sicker at the moment; him or Libby. Libby sighed and headed for Garth's room of the house-boat, flopping down on the hard bed. It wasn't comfortable like hers and it was probably worse than Sam's. But nevertheless, she managed to fall asleep for a few hours.

"Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty!" Libby let out a groan, clutching her head at the volume of Dean's voice. He wasn't even in the room. "You might wanna get your ass out here!"

"Leave me alone, Dean!" Libby snapped. She went to pull the blanket around her tighter when she heard her  voice.

"Not feeling well, Elizabeth?" Libby jumped out of bed and raced towards the kitchen where Dean and Naomi stood. A scowl etched itself on Libby's face, a smirk resting on Naomi's. Naomi studied the Archangel up and down. "Wow. The rumors are true. You're dying."

"What's it to you?" Naomi shrugged before looking to Dean.

"We haven't been formally introduced, Dean. My name is Naomi." The angel stuck her hand out for Dean to shake, but he just ignored it and took a step back.

"Oh, I know who you are." She clenched her fist and pulled her arm back to her side. "And I know what you did to Cas after he got out of Purgatory."

"After I rescued him from Purgatory, you mean, at the cost of many angels' lives," Naomi replied. Libby rolled her eyes, clutching the counter for support.

"You screwed with his head and had him spy on us," Libby hissed. Naomi glanced over her shoulder at the weak redhead. She didn't have her jacket on so the red and black veins were able to seen clearly as they creeped up her arms.
Naomi had never seen anything like it, and they intrigued her.

"Well, it is true that I have spoken with Castiel many times, trying to reach out to him, trying to help him," she said with a nod. "Dean, you must have noticed how Purgatory changed him. I mean, he's been unstable in the past, but I was shocked at how damaged he is now."

"Stop, okay? Don't – don't try to spin this. You think I don't know that you told him to try and kill me?" Libby's eyes widened. She had known Castiel was working with Naomi which is why she didn't say much around him, but she hadn't known that Naomi told him to kill Dean if needed. Libby went to take a step towards Naomi to slap her, but she stumbled. Dean raced to her side before she could hit the ground. "Geez, Libby. Just stay where you are," he muttered.

"I'm gonna kill this bitch," Libby sneered. Dean shook his head.

"Uh-uh. In order to do that you'll use what little strength you have." Naomi seemed to ignore their hushed conversation and replied to Dean with a sigh.

"Hmm. Yeah, I suppose that is how he would hear it." She nodded her head to the side. "When I learned of the Angel tablet, I did tell Castiel to get it at any cost. That's my job – to protect heaven. I'm a warrior, just as you are. What would you expect? And now Castiel is in the wind with a hydrogen bomb in his pocket, and I – I'm scared, for all of us." Dean nodded, processing everything she had said.

"Save it. See, I don't trust Angels, which means I don't trust you." Naomi raised an eyebrow.

"You trust Elizabeth and she's a powerful angel. You don't trust us and yet you haven't warded this place against us. I know. You're hoping Castiel will return to you. I admire your loyalty. I only wish he felt the same way.

"I know you don't want to believe it, Dean, but we're on the same side – shutting the Gates of Hell, bringing Castiel in from the cold. Take a moment. Think about what I've said. Oh. I know you've been doing business with Ajay. He did mention, didn't he, that his way into Hell is through Purgatory?"

Dean's and Libby's green eyes widened. Sam was in Purgatory and neither of them could get him out without going in there themselves.

"I knew you'd want to know. You see, we can be of help to each other." Naomi disappeared, the sound of her fluttering wings echoing in the houseboat. Libby gulped and grabbed her boots, slipping them on.

"Where are you going?" Dean demanded.

"To get Sam. What does it look like? I'm not leaving my boyfriend in Purgatory," she replied. Libby grabbed the Sword from the counter and went to walk out when Dean grabbed her arm.

"You get in and you won't get out. That is if you can even get in. Libby, you're too weak to even walk without falling. How are you gonna get to Purgatory? Hell, how are you even gonna leave this houseboat in heels?" Dean tugged her arm out of his grasp.

"Watch me." She managed to stay upright for the first few steps, but once the redhead made it to the door her legs gave out and she caught herself on the wall. Dean raised an eyebrow. "Shut up." He let out a deep sigh and walked over to the girl, helping her up.

"Leave this one to me. Watch over Kevin, keep him company. He likes you."

"I don't think he does."

"Well, he likes you better than me." Libby frowned but nodded. Dean unbuckled the sheath from around her waist and tossed the Sword on the counter and helped Libby step out of her boots. "Stay here. Don't open the do-"

"For anyone but you and Sam. I know." He rolled his eyes at her attitude but nodded.

"Eat something dammit. It looks like you've lost like ten pounds and you're skinny enough as it is." Without another word Dean left, swinging the keys of Baby around his finger in the process.

Libby clutched her stomach as she finished her plate of eggs and bacon. The food made her feel even worse and she instantly regretted eating it. "I hate you, Dean Winchester," she grumbled, letting her head fall to the counter as she let out a groan.

"Libby?" Kevin called out, the door to the closet opening. Libby lifted her head up to see Kevin, a bag in his hand.

"Hey. Where're you going?" she asked softly. He gulped, glancing around the room nervously. Libby furrowed her eyebrows. "Kevin?"

"I-I can't take it here, Libby. The Tablet's hidden but I just can't-"

"Kevin, you can't just leave. We can head back to the Bunker. I'll text Dean, hotwire a car, and you can drive us there." Kevin shook his head. "We can't risk it. If Crowley's demons find you or me then-"

"I'm leaving, Libby, and you can't stop me." Libby opened her mouth to protest but she closed it. Kevin was right. She couldn't even walk without someone to support her. She definitely couldn't stop the Prophet. Libby gulped but nodded.

"Just stay safe, kid, yeah?" Kevin nodded. Libby waved her hand towards her. "Come here." Kevin set his back down and walked over, letting Libby pull him into a tight hug. "Dean is gonna kill me."

"Just say I knocked you out. It's believable enough." Libby snorted but nodded. "If I find something that can help you I'll let you know, okay?" Libby sent him a grateful smile. It was weak. Her lips were dry and chapped, her face was pale, and she had lost about fifteen pounds in the past few days. She looked like Purgatory. Hell was too kind to describe her as. Kevin walked out of the houseboat, guilt gnawing at both his and Libby's insides. They both knew they'd come to regret their decisions.
