Helios Weeps: Long Live Hyperion!
Maybe just as Hyperion was cursed, perhaps Soleil was too.
Long Live the Queen!
Helios Weeps ✷ (2023)

Hyperion leaves a brand on all its people at birth. It's a hereditary thing, encoded in the DNA. Something you simply cannot escape no matter what you do. It spreads through the galaxy like a sickness. Whatever rumors haunt Hyperion make it to the lips of others. No one is left unknown of the supposed downfall of the solar system, not even newborns. It's just something engraved in the mind from the beginning. No one knows this better than its inhabitants.
But the end is unwritten. Worldwide extermination, celestial destruction, or the simple political landscape falling into oblivion.
Nevertheless, Helios will suffer the same fate as a dying sun, it's princess knows that much.
It's the first thing Soleil remembers from birth, and the last thing she'll see at death. But Sol is not a superstitious person. She does not believe the saying; she doesn't believe what her parents tell her or any of their advisors. Every plan, every movement they make she sees behind it the lingering notion of a curse controlling them like a puppet. It sickens her to the pit of her stomach. So, Sol takes anything they say with a grain of salt. These are trying times, they always have been. But nothing will convince her that if life on Hyperion, more specifically Helios, does end it will be in some prophetic way. Sol knows better than to work herself up in that regard. If she let every thought consume like it does some people she'd get nothing done. It's just not in her to move on at all. Things stick to her. They stick and go with her everywhere she goes. Sometimes it's a pleasure, most times it's not. She must pick and choose carefully what she believes in. She knows it will be her undoing.
But Sol is a child, a kid. And picking what is wrong is always going to be her first choice whether it's conscious or not. It's not in her to be right either.
What's 'wrong' resonates deeply within her the first time she meets Anakin Skywalker. The boy constantly teetering over the line between moral and immoral.
Sol hears of what surrounds him too. It's difficult not to. But it's all white noise to her. In fact, she thinks it brings them closer together. To have fate dragging behind them like corpses. Like it makes them similar, in a way.
( How could he be cursed? Sol wouldn't believe it. )
Sol is a romantic at heart, naive in her soul. She is unmoving in everything she does even if it could kill her. Earnestly, she believes if she doesn't move something else will, but really she just believes in all the lies she tells herself. Sol believes that in some dark and twisted way, they are the same, and that makes it lovely in turn. He has infected her just as she has done to him; they are cut from the same cloth, the same cursed cloth. Two sides of the same coin. It's anything that could just bring them closer together that she will take and hold till death. Anything in every fleeting moment they see each other because it only seems to draw them farther apart. She's desperate. Sol is a desperate person who grasps at straws like a child. She'll lie to herself, and then she'll lie to him. She'll think he's the exception and tell herself that she can handle his own fire, his own burning. Sol will lie and lie and take the fib until she'll have nothing left but to realize that at their core, they are two sides of a very long spectrum. She'll burn just not in the same way; they'll exist just not in the same stratosphere. She'll devour him or he'll exhaust her. Either way, they'll snuff each other out in their own doomed way, and say it's worth it. It's so worth it.
( How could they be cursed? Sol couldn't believe it. )
The very thought of even fathoming it could kill her. Sol was always so fragile; it was no good. It would be better to leave her be. Let her drown in herself until the time comes. Maybe if she was lucky she could die in ignorance. She was never fit for anything else.
So, when the time does inevitably come where Sol must face her planet bleeding into the skyline where it will disappear for good, Sol will think of two sides of one coin. She will think of tattered cloth, and she will repeat the mantra her people beseeched into oblivion. And when it does come, arriving on the horizon of her very own home, perhaps then she will finally believe that Hyperion─
that she really was cursed.

✷ Helios Weeps contains many difficult topics that may be difficult for readers. Watch out for blood & gore, vivid descriptions of death and violence, mental illness, PTSD, abuse, and terrible family dynamics.
