Chapter 6: Poison

(No ones POV)

The kingdom of Mewni was in a state of emergency. This epidemic was spreading faster than anticipated and was already seriously affecting some of the citizens of the kingdom. Being one of the victims of this disease the sorcerer Adam. His son, (y/n), has decided to resort to any means necessary to find a cure for this epidemic. One of (y/n)'s methods of finding a cure was to take blood samples from some of the citizens and compare them with the animals around the kingdom. For some reason, the animals are not affected by this epidemic while Mewni's monsters can get infected with it. It has already been tried to use magic to cure this disease but without a good result...

Right now, (y/n) was in his father's room while wearing a strange mask and a black coat to avoid catching the epidemic.

Adam was coughing a lot while covering his mouth. (y/n) couldn't help but feel a horrible sadness and depression because of his father current state.

Adam: Do you have to wear that? You look like you want to kill someone instead of helping-

Adam was coughing while laughing at the same time.

(y/n): This suit keeps me protected from the disease... But I'm afraid this is just a temporary solution. Anyway, how did you get sick?

Adam: Just like you, I was trying to find a cure for this disease.

Adam once again started to cough violently.

Adam: But I think it's a bit obvious how things turned out.

(y/n): I'm sorry father...

Adam: Is not your fault, (y/n). I just wanted to make your job easier for you. But in the end, I just end up leaving all the responsibility on your shoulders.

(y/n): Don't worry, dad! I promise you that I will find a cure and that I will save the kingdom!

Adam: I know you will... After all, you are smarter than me.

...

...

...

(y/n): You really must be sick to say something like that.

Adam: What the- I was trying to be a good father and I thought we were sharing a moment! Uuugh! Just leave! You are going to kill me before this stupid illness!

That could have seemed somewhat cruel. But deep down, (y/n) knew that his father was holding back the urge to laugh. That was a very strange way of humor that they two shared.

(y/n) left his father's room and started walking through the halls of the castle to his laboratory assigned by the queen. Once there, (y/n) removed the mask from his face and placed it on the table. (y/n) let out a sigh while using his hand to support the weight of his head. Right now, (y/n) didn't know what was hurting him the most. Could it be the fact that he could not find a cure? Could it be the fact that his father contracted the epidemic and he could die? Could it be the pressure that everyone needs his help?

???: Hey.

(y/n): AH!

(y/n) lost the balance he had on his arm that was holding his head and he accidentally smacked his forehead against the table. (y/n) was rubbing his head in pain while Hekapoo was trying to help him.

(y/n): Stop doing that! People is going to get tired of that!

Hekapoo: I'm so sorry!

After a few minutes, the pain in (y/n)'s forehead disappeared. But things went from bad to worse pretty fast. (y/n) and Hekapoo were in an uncomfortable silence. There was no one in the lab who could bother them or enter the room to stop this awkward situation. Hekapoo didn't know what to say. After the bar incident, she felt a little strange to be near (y/n). But at the same time, she knew about Adam's situation and she didn't want to say something that could make (y/n) feel worse than he is.

Hekapoo: So... How is Adam?

(y/n): He... Dad is not well. And if I don't find a cure soon, he will be worse than bad.

Hekapoo: Can... I do anything to help?

(y/n): I DON'T KNOW!!!

(y/n) was pulling his hair but not so strong as to tear strands of hair. Hekapoo took a step back because of (y/n)'s sudden change of attitude.

(y/n): *Sigh* At first, the people of Mewni didn't expect anything from me... Well, they expected me to blow up the city but that's not the point. Anyway, now everyone is waiting for me to find a solution for this epidemic and I don't know what to do! I can't even talk to you about what happened... the other... night...

Now both Hekapoo and (y/n) were blushing a little. Hekapoo was scratching the back of her head while (y/n) was tapping his fingers.

Hekapoo: Do you... Want to talk about it?

(y/n): Em... Are you angry with me?

Hekapoo: Wha- (y/n), I'm not angry at you. You don't have to worry about that.

(y/n) let out a sigh of relaxation on his mind.

Hekapoo: Are you... Mad at me?

(y/n): N-No! It was probably my fault! I often screw things up...

Hekapoo: No you don't! I enjoyed you during the whole night!

That bad choice of words only caused both of them to blush more and that a bigger awkward silence.

Hekapoo: W-What I was trying to say was-

(y/n): I-I got the message.

Hekapoo: O-Okay...

Hekapoo took a couple of steps forward and surprised (y/n) with a small peck on his lips. (y/n) was absolutely frozen in the place even though Hekapoo is a mystical being of fire. Hekapoo was going up the stairs of the lab to the exit but she stopped at the door.

Hekapoo: I know you will find a solution for this. You are a talented nerd after all.

Hekapoo went outside but she came back really quick.

Hekapoo: Just... Try to not blow yourself while doing that.

Hekapoo winked at (y/n) and leaved the lab for good this time. Our dear scientist slapped himself in the face to wake up from his trance.

(y/n): Come on, (y/n)! You are a first-rate scientist and now you have one less problem to worry about!

Our dear scientist adjusted the gloves of his hand. Then, (y/n) took two small laboratory flasks while holding one above the other.

(y/n): Besides, how hard could this be?

(y/n) poured a small drop from one of the pipette into the other one.

(y/n): ...Oh boi...

(Meanwhile)

Hekapoo was walking through the halls of the castle until she suddenly heard a loud boom sound.

Hekapoo: *Sigh* He simply can't help it...

(Back with burned lab :V)

Our dear scientist was in the wall covered with ashes while there were some parts of the floor that had small flames on it.

(y/n): O-Okay... This will be harder than what I thought...

(Time skip)

Our dear scientist has been working for a whole month in search of a cure for the epidemic. During that month Adam's condition worsened considerably. Adam suffers from high fevers, shortness of breath, complete lack of energy, etc. Apart from that, the number of mewmans contracting the epidemic had increased drastically as well. Even Queen Celena herself was already suffering the same fate as her subjects. But there was still a hope that lay on the hands of (y/n)...

During his studies and analysis, (y/n) discovered many interesting things. First, both monsters and mewmans are susceptible to contracting this epidemic. This means that a cure could not be developed through the blood of the other species as (y/n) originally thought. The second thing (y/n) discovered is that the animals were not being affected by this epidemic. (y/n) didn't understand the reason behind this because the immune system of the animals around Mewni wasn't much superior to that of the mewmans. Our dear scientist was in a dead end until an idea popped in his mind.

Merlin, (y/n)'s grandfather, always talked about how animals helped him every time he had a problem. In his years of life, Merlin constantly observed animals to learn from them. One of the greatest teachings of the great wizard was that from nature you can always learn something. (y/n) followed his grandfather's advice and that's what helped him solve the great mystery behind this epidemic.

Thanks to the observations that (y/n) made, he was able to discover that the medium through which this epidemic was spreading was through water. Apparently, there must be something contaminating Mewni's water and that makes ingesting it deadly harmful to the body. But the question is, how is it that the animals are not affected? The answer is that they were also affected but thanks to their instincts they knew how to deal with that problem. There is a type of plant in Mewni that has blue leaves whose edges have a red tint. (y/n) observed that the animals that ate this type of plants weren't affected by the epidemic. After taking a sample of this plant, our dear scientist discovered that its leaves have a healing agent that neutralizes the toxins of the epidemic.

After finally discovering the cure for the disease, (y/n) worked day and night to create a potion to neutralize the effects of the epidemic. Unfortunately, our dear scientist didn't have enough time to test the potion. But at the same time, both the citizens of Mewni, Queen Celena and Adam wouldn't be able to last any longer. What (y/n) did was create for the moment a potion for his father and give Hekapoo and Lekmet some papers with the formula to create the potion to cure the epidemic. (y/n) had full confidence that the members of the high magical commission would be more than capable of recreating the potion with the instructions he gave them.

(y/n) was running through the hallways of the castle with the potion he created in his hand. (y/n) had big bags under his eyes face for the lack of sleep. But that would not stop our dear scientist when he was about to achieve his victory against the bacteriological nature. After a few minutes, (y/n) finally reached Adam's room and his father was coughing violently with a lot of sweat on his face. Adam was unable to get up and his skin had become very pale.

(y/n): Father!

(y/n) went running towards his father and he placed a hand on his back to help him to sit down.

(y/n): Drink this potion! I promise this will help you!

Adam barely had the strength to respond. With the help of his son, Adam was able to take a small sip of the medicine that (y/n) created. That little sipthat  passed through Adam's throat made the weakened sorcerer to cover his mouth while his face went from pale to blue. Our dear scientist entered a severe state of panic.

(y/n): Father?!

Adam: IT'S HORRIBLY BITTER!!!

(y/n): My grandfather always said that the best medicines are bitter!

Adam: I know what my father used to say but that doesn't take away the fact that this thing has the same taste as my dirty boots!

(y/n): If you are already able to discuss with me like this, then it means that my potion works!

Indeed, Adam's condition had improved considerably after taking a small sip of the potion. The temperature of his fever had diminished and the pallor of his skin was disappearing little by little.

Adam: It works...

Adam had faith in his son. But even so, it was hard for him to see the great power that (y/n) had inside him.

Adam: (y/n)...

(y/n): Yes father?

Adam: I want you to know that I am very proud of you.

(y/n): Dad...

Adam: In many ways you look more like your mother than me. She always found solutions where others didn't find anything.

These words drew a sad smile on (y/n)'s face. Liz, the mother of our dear scientist, died a few years after the birth of her son. There wasn't a day where both (y/n) and Adam would not miss Liz.

Adam: (y/n)... Once I'm out of this bed, would you like to go see your mother?

(y/n): Will you come with me?

Adam: I promise.

(y/n): Then it's a promise. Also, you have to drink a sip of that potion every four hours.

Adam: Uuuuuugggghhh...

(y/n): If you don't mind...

Our dear scientist was a few minutes away from fainting in place.

(y/n): I really need to rest...

(Time Skip)

It was five in the morning of the next day. (y/n)'s potion was healing the sick people of Mewni from the epidemic. For the first time in a long time, Mewni's guards did a good job in distributing the medicines with the citizens. But for our dear scientist things were not so good. (y/n) was having nightmares with the ghost that attacked him and Hekapoo not so long ago. Although those nightmares were over when someone was desperately hitting the door of (y/n)'s house. Our dear scientist got up reluctantly and opened the door, only to meet Queen Celena herself at the entrance of his house.

(y/n): Queen Celena? What are you doing here so early? You still need to rest... *Low voice* Just like me.

(y/n)'s concern only increased when he saw tears falling from Celena's face.

Celena: (y/n)... Adam...

(y/n)'s face showed a clear expression of terror and fear. He didn't want to hear the words that were about to leave the lips of the queen.

Celena: Adam Chronos... Your father... He passed away.

(y/n) fell on his knees while tears escaped from his eyes. In the distance, only the screams and cries of a person who lost his entire family could be heard...

AAANNNDDD DONE!!!
